My husband and I used Kitchen Tune Up for a full kitchen replacement in 2006. At that time, we were pleased with the quality of kitchen we got for the price. There were small imperfections with the work, but we looked at it as part of the deal we were getting. We recently purchased another fixer-upper and decided this one only needed cabinet refacing. We called Rich again to do the work. He was incredibly enthusiastic and pleasant during the sales process. Once the contract was signed, he became difficult to work with. He was unable to give a precise date the new cabinet doors would arrive. He was less than willing to coordinate around my general contractor even though I was very upfront that he would be working in the home at the same time. He ended up getting through with the work but it was not at the caliber I expected. Dings and dents in the cabinet boxes were not filled, simply painted over, etc. Some of the drawer fronts look slightly crooked... just more little things like the first kitchen. He was also demanding on payment. He finished a day early and called me about two hours before completing the job to tell me he was almost done and expected his check. I lived an hour away from the new home and have a toddler. There was no way I could be there that afternoon to inspect the work before providing payment. (He had been paid half upfront already so it's not like he was totally out.) He also noted at this time that he had two doors that had imperfections that he would be ordering replacements for. He offered to allow me to hold on to 10% of the remaining 50%, even though his contract said payment was due upon COMPLETION of the work. Over all, the work is ok but the contractor was just a poor communicator. He was always giving short notice as to when he'd be showing up and when he'd be complete.
