Moving from Memphis to signal Mountain I was left without any guidance to find a landscaper that could read my mind and make it happen or be honest enough to tell me it can’t be done, shouldn’t be done, or cost too much to be done. That’s a tall order. However I stumbled upon Howard landscaping and picked it because it was my father’s name LOL. Consider it a form of divine intervention and it truly has been a blessing. Chance came out and upon walking our property which was overgrown somewhat we started picturing all the things our property could be. I have no doubt he knew what he was talking about and that he could complete it but even more importantly that my husband would be happy with his work and price. His only downfall is he was so detailed and imaginative when discussing the possibilities that I like most people have the darndest time with instant gratification and had to be patient. However due to weather issues the project took longer than I had hoped. Chance was fantastic at reassuring me and informing me the status of different parts of my project. We have been so impressed with his personal level of professionalism we have chosen to book a outdoor fireplace project for this fall. I have no doubt he will be just as busy then as he is now and that it will be just as wonderful as the waterfall and koi pond he is currently transforming. Remember all landscaping projects are works in progress. Hire someone qualified on the front end and watch your yard bloom year round. My husband and I will be enjoying this beautiful landscaping for years to come. And it would not have been possible without Chance Howard and the rest of his wonderful team.

I will start by saying that some of the people working for Howard Landscaping do fantastic work. This review is of the professionalism and work quality of the owner, Chance Howard. Our project involved the installation of a water feature with waterfall. The first three attempts were an ugly mess of exposed orange and yellow foam, exposed liner, and interminable leaks. Chance Howard’s idea of showing up “in the morning” means he might show up sometime in the afternoon one day during the week, when he works for two or three hours. He does not give courtesy calls when he doesn’t show up when promised, but he does make frequent use of the weather as an excuse not to work, even when the sun is shining brightly. After taking a sledgehammer to a rock we specifically told him we wanted featured, we had to threaten a lawsuit to get a replacement rock. From the beginning, he left our site a mess with foam and garbage everywhere, including left in the pools for several days. He failed to return our garden hose to where he got it, and frequently asked for basic tools since he didn’t bother to bring them with him. With all the leaks in the water feature, the “colorful plant material” that was supposed to finish our project, was mostly crushed as rocks were moved to locate the various leaks. The plant material has not been replaced. The projected two week project has turned into a six week headache so far. I would not wish this disaster on anyone. The most recent rebuild looked great and sounded great, but now, 24 hours after turning it on, it’s already leaked a substantial amount of water leaving the bottom pool about a foot lower than it was yesterday this time. It seems we have yet more leaks. Given that more “repairs” to the liner and seams to the liner have been added than we could keep track of, I’m sorry, but not surprised.

I hired Howard Landscaping to do all my landscaping for our newly constructed home. And it was a mess! It required big equipment to level the surface and correct the water drainage problem. They installed a sprinkler system, planted sod, and created several beautiful flower beds! I have a large area opposite of our house which contained thousands of small pine trees on a steep slope. I looked but I had never found a company willing to tackle it, nor had any ideas what to create in that area. Chance and his guys were able to remove all the pines and they changed the unusable steep slope to a gravel circle drive! I could not be happier!! It has made such a dramatic difference to the curb appeal of our home! It looks like a home from better homes and gardens! And I have to be honest and say wasn't sure what to expect at first.... his bid was thousands cheaper than the other 6 landscapers. His work was finished ahead of schedule despite some unplanned rain delays, and the workers were professional and polite. I would not hesitate to recommend Howard landscaping to my friends and family for any landscaping jobs, and lawn maintenance!! Colleen K. Bird
