Basement Wizards

The gentleman was very nice, arrived exactly on time. I took him to the back and asked him if he didn't have something to protect his clothes, after all, he was going into a crawl space! He said no, he didn't need it. We opened the door of the crawl space and lo and behold, there was a puddle of water right in the door way! I had not seen this, and the plumber the week before did not mention it so I'm sure it hadn't been there long. I asked him if it could that be from all the rain we've been having. He said perhaps, then he said that he thought it was that the ground was so wet that it was coming up from under the ground. He looked around a little more never going more than 10 feet into the crawl space. He came outside and I asked how much that would cost. He started estimating and said depends on the size of the house and he said, oh I left my measuring tape in the car but I can do it like this and proceeded to measure the length of the house one foot in front of the other. Then he proceeded to explain what needed to be done, digging a ditch along the crawl space the length of the house, putting in a pipe and a pump that would pump the water out when necessary. I didn't know what to think. I asked him don't you need to go check under the rest of the house and he said no, that wasn't necessary. He never went beyond 10 feet into the crawl space. He was quite tall and did mention we had one of the lowest crawls spaces he had ever seen. He looked around the house from outside. His estimate came to only approximately $8,000.00. I asked him to please email me this estimate and we'd have to think about it, maybe get another opinion and see what we decide to do because obviously we need to do something soon before mold starts to grow, of which there was none to be seen. Anyway, I asked his opinion about some other problems around our yard, some sink holes are forming near the creek, water flowing from the front yard through the back with the heavy rains, and he gave us some great advice on how to deal with it and seemed to know what he was talking about and he was a very nice pleasant man. He even shared with us how we could fix these problems ourselves and save a lot of money instead of hiring someone to do it. We really got the impression he did not want to go into the crawl space to inspect it and didn't really care for the business. He never sent me the estimate. My husband shared this story of his results with friends who know more about these things than we do and the all said no way, water doesn't go up into your house the way he described. So the next day my husband went in the crawl space and the only water he saw was coming from the air conditioner. Turns out, the hose from the air conditioner had some how been pushed back into the house (maybe the plumber accidently tripped over it?) and the excess water was coming out right there in the crawl space instead of outside. Our air conditioning company came and confirmed that and fixed it. I believe if this guy had done an inspection of the crawl space he would have seen that. But, I also wonder if he did see it and didn't bother to tell me but made up this whole story. I don't know what to think. He was a sweet heart though and maybe it was just a bad day and his heart wasn't in it. I wish I could have given him a great review as others did but this is what happened. To sum it up. He really did no work for us at all so we can't comment on his work. He did give us good advice and because of his visit and expensive estimate, my husband solved the problem and has been down in the crawl space almost every day this week checking every corner and cleaning it out himself! That maybe worth the $49.00!

The owner of Basement Wizards came by to give me an estimate and to look at all the damages and location of the flooding. He was very professional and on time, we walked through the basement as he pointed out all of the spots where the water was coming from. The way the job was broken down to me I felt as like I knew what I was doing. I would recommend this company again. My whole basement was waterproofed and they added 2 sump pumps
