Description of Work: Contacted HD Home Services after they painted for a neighbor. Reached the owner, Hugo Quintanilla. Turns out HD Home Services was a subcontractor to CertaPro for that job, but HD Home Services quoted and then worked for me directly. That was my first mistake. I learned too late that HD Home Services is not licensed, bonded, and insured. But presumably companies like CertaPro are, and you sometimes get what you pay for. Quality was generally good, with Hugo’s being more careful than his team’s. The other team members left paint along mirror edges, trim, towel racks and switchplates that should have been removed, and allowed it to drip onto natural stone tiles that are difficult to clean. When the work was complete, we paid them and even tipped them (even though apparently tipping painters isn’t the norm). While the work was underway, we expanded the current job and also offered them ongoing future work, chatted casually, and offered them food while on site. So what happened next was shocking. The next morning we realized a closet located in the most secluded area where they worked had been left in disarray, and a laptop and other items had disappeared from that closet. It sickens me to have to write this. We’ve been fortunate in the past and have never experienced items vanishing while contractors worked for us. The HD Home Services crew were the only people in that secluded area of the home when the items vanished, and a police investigation is under way. Sharing all of this to highlight some of the risks associated with hiring strangers to work inside your home. I would encourage anyone hiring help to: - only engage licensed, bonded, and insured companies - ensure the company resources are at least authorized to work in the US - copy the IDs of all company reps working in your home - frequently check-in on workers and monitor them in person when entering and exiting your home (can be tricky because workers often need to go back and forth to their work vehicles for tools and supplies) - perhaps even document your expectations (for example, workers cannot have their friends visit with them on site) and their responsibilities to you with signatures before beginning the work - always secure items of value away from workers - consider the use of cameras trained on areas where work is being performed.

+ 0 moreMy exterior home painting went swiftly but very efficiently. Hugo and his teammate George arrived on Monday morning promptly and ready to get to work. They began my project pressure washing the home exterior, the driveway and my small patio slab. Tow rotted boards, one at front near the roof and another at back near the rain gutter were removed and replaced with PVC boards and caulked (various other areas of the hardy plank siding were also re-caulked). All windows, security cameras and light fixtures were covered and taped for protection from spraying of the paint. The painting commenced on Tuesday, the next day and went quickly but was very efficient. The guys listened carefully to my description of results I wanted to achieve responded respectfully to each of my inquiries/requests. They were careful to avoid damage to my flower garden and flower planters. My project went rather quickly and was completed sooner that I expected, however, the final results are amazingly beautiful. I believe our clear communications throughout the whole process is what enabled the work to progress smoothly. The guys returned two days later to install my purchased, decorative Gable Victorian Pediment (once it arrived) which completed the finishing touch of the project. My daughter and I are very pleased with the outcome, so are several of our neighbors. Hugo and George deserve my highest recommendation and positive review for a job well done. My Craftsman style cottage home is now a shining star of the entire Cul de Sac.

It's been almost 2 weeks now since the job completed and from when I texted him and asked him to come back to attach the gutters bc our ladders is not tall enough for us to do it ourselves.

+ -1 moreHugo, as many have noted, was very prompt. Communication before he got his money was very prompt and constant. After paying the deposit the communication slowed. Hugo did a very mediocre job on what he actually did, and then he asked for more money to purchase items so he could finish the job. I agreed to an additional $1,000 in order to by a balcony to install over some double doors. Hugo took it, and I have not heard from him since. He also left my house in a complete mess. I have nails, wood, screws, paint cans, furniture etc all over my yard from where Hugo just tossed items and left them. The work he actually did has to be redone as he didn’t sand before painting, and he left rotted wood where he agreed to replace. Hugo has not returned any form of communication in over a week even though he agreed he wasn’t done. Buyer Beware!!!

+ -1 moreI found Hugo for exterior home painting. His response to my inquiry was prompt. When he came to my home we did a detailed walk through. I wanted the exterior repainted (sides and back, the front is brick) and the damaged trim to be replaced and all trim repainted as well. Hugo went above and beyond and replaced everything damaged that I didn’t even see. Prep work and clean up was done too. They power washed a couple of days before, covered my windows, and cleaned up everything. We also did a final walk through. Price was about the same as another quote I had received. Hugo and his partner were very professional and far exceeded my expectations! My home looks beautiful!

+ -1 moreI had a wall-mounted mirror replaced in the bathroom leaving the walls needing painted. I contacted Hugo via Angie’s list messaging regarding the work. He promptly responded within an hour, sorted all the details & costs, and scheduled the job for 2 days later. This is a great turn around time from my experience with other contractors. Hugo told me he’d arrive after lunch time, I told him he’s welcome to come earlier if he can, just shoot me a text. He texted as promised and arrived early around 11:45am. He has a professional setup which was immediately noticeable and put my mind at ease. He patched the drywall appropriately and prepped the bathroom before painting - quality work! Hugo did great quality work but was also efficient and done in a timely manor. He cleaned up everything - it was like he was never there! He sent before and after photos so I had record of the work and confirmed I was happy with it. I provided the drywall paint and he was kind enough to provide the trim paint. All for $300 which was more than reasonable. I’d highly recommend him from my experience and will definitely work with him again when I have more paint jobs. I’ve included before (Drywall damage & area around new mirror requiring the paint work) and after photos.
