My husband and I selected Roto-Rooter to call for this job because their specialty, they say, is 24-hr, emergency plumbing service at no extra cost for nights and weekends. On Saturday night around 11pm, I set up an appointment on the Roto-Rooter website for 2 to 4 hours later (which the website allows you to do, so I assumed it was a legit way of scheduling). However, that time frame came and went with no contact from Roto-Rooter. Thankfully, although we did have sewage water backed up into our shower, we were not in a true emergency situation. When I checked messages on my phone the next morning, there was a message from Roto-Rooter letting me know (over three and a half hours AFTER the beginning of the time frame I had selected for my service call online) that no technicians were going to be available in our area until the next morning and to call then. When I called the next morning, I was informed that, actually, a technician would not be available until 3pm that afternoon, over 12 hours AFTER the end of the time frame I had selected online. This may seem ungenerous of me, but nothing about what I've just described fits what I would consider 24-hr, emergency plumbing service. Again, we were very fortunate that we did not have a true plumbing emergency. All that said, when our technician arrived that afternoon to clean out our main sewer line, our opinion of Roto-Rooter improved a great deal. Our plumber, James, was incredibly courteous, friendly, and hard-working, and he spent two-and-a-half hours laboring to remove the roots that were choking our pipe. It was a pleasure working with him! At the end of his service call, James recommended that we have another technician come who could snake a video camera through our pipe to find out how much damage the pipe had sustained; and, after we consented, we were told that we would be contacted that night or the next day so that it could be taken care of ASAP. Unfortunately, it is now two days later, and we still haven't received a call to set up the appointment. I called Roto-Rooter today to follow up, was told that I would receive a call from the dispatcher, and still have not heard anything 12 hours later. It appears as though James and his hard work were a bright spot sandwiched between the muck of working with a company that is just too big and commercial! Roto-Rooter's communication with its customers prior to and after jobs are performed (if follow up is needed) leaves A LOT to be desired!

I had to have the pipe which goes from the house to the street replaced because it was over 60 years old. It lasted beyond what they said it was going to last. They came in and replaced it. Everything was good. Their prices are little high but they are there when we need them. If we’ve got a plumbing problem, trust me on this if they can get there soon that’s good.

They came out quickly , the same day within a few hours. The end result was that they did unclog the drain. I feel the service was overpriced. They could not guarantee that what they would do would do would take care of the problem.

The first plumber did show up pretty much on time...but he's the one who collected the payment which was 3 times what it should have been for this service. Line in yard was backed up so plumber came out and "roto-rooted" pipe to open. As fa r as I know now, this service was okay. However, the plumber said that there is a "free" camera service where a technician runs a camera through the pipe to see what the cause of the problem is. He said he talked to the technician and the appointed was set for Monday, July 11, at 10:00. NO SHOW, & NO CALL OR MESSAGE. When I called the office they said they didn't have it scheduled and readily scheduled the service for the next day at 5:00. Again...NO SHOW, & NO CALL OR MESSAGE. Again I called the office. She said the guy had called and there was no answer and he had left a message. There was NO CALL and certainly no message, on either my cell phone or house phone. The next appointment was set for Thursday between 2:00 and 4:00. Again, NO SHOW, &NO CALL OR MESSAGE. Normally, I would never even bother with this company again, but we had paid $299 for a service that should have been $75, with the promise of this "free" camera diagnosis---so how else to try to re-coop some of that over charge for the original service. So, I called again. More apologies and excuses---this guy is the only one trying to take care of the NW service area.... She set the next apointment for the next day, Friday, at 5:00. AGAIN NO SHOW, but the technician did call at 6:15 that he was still tied up in Peachtree City with a problem at an apartment complex (hadn't they just told me this guy was the NW technician?). So he apologized and said he'd for sure come at 12:00 noon, the next day, Saturday. Guess what? Right, NO SHOW, & NO CALL OR MESSAGE. And yet again I called. One of these calls during the week was to the manager who was "in a meeting" so the secretary or whomever had answered assured me she would take care of it and had talked to the technician herself. She said there was only one technician because one was in the hospital and the other was on vacation. And after she set that appointment, it was no different, it was still NO SHOW & NO CALL OR MESSAGE. So again, on Saturday, I called. The lady I reached time listened to my complaint of this week-long experience with them and promised that for sure with out a doubt the technician would come out on SUNDAY between 1:00 and 2:00. She had talked to him herself and he was working an extra day even on Sunday and he would come. AND even if somehow he got tied up there was a back-up technician that was also working so they would for sure be there this time. Well, guess what? Right, again NO SHOW, NO CALL & NO MESSAGE. Again I called. This time the lady said they had it scheduled for MONDAY at 1:00. Bull****! I recited for her, the conversation about how this poor overworked guy and his backup were working on SUNDAY!!!! Well, now just curious how long they are going to carry on this charade, I called again. Now I'm supposedly setting here holding my breath for them to call and tell me what time they are coming TODAY. Instead, I'll be sure this complete gets out to everyone possible!
Description of Work: The service preformed was mostly instilling A LOT of stress into my life for one week. To begin, the line in my yard was backed up so a plumber came out and "roto-rooted" pipe to open it. As far as I know now, this service was okay, but time will tell. We'd had this done 2 years ago on a Saturday night late, for $75, but this guy charged $299. He said there was a "promotion" where a technician would come back out with a camera and look and see what's causing the problem. So, that took some of the sting out of this overcharge. However, I never expected the stress this company was to cause during the next week. Over and over I made arrangements to be at the house for this "free" service only to be stood up SIX times! While he did not end up having to fix anything, Andre was very helpful in dealing with the county who didn't want to take responsibility and he discounted the bill for me since the county should have taken responsibility in the first place. He was prompt, courteous, and did a thorough inspection of my system to ensure that the problem was not on my end of the plumbing line.
Description of Work: Called Roto-Rooter/Decatur ( http://www.rotorooter.com/decaturga/) after being told by Dekalb County that air in my line was the homeowner issue. Andre came out promptly and did a full inspection on my system and identified that there was not any issue with my plumbing and that it was indeed the county's issue. He spoke to the hotline at Dekalb County again and was on the phone with her for almost 10 minutes advocating for me that there was no issue on my end and that the county needed to send someone out to deal with the air in the plumbing lines before it was reaching the meter at my house.

We called Roto Rooter, which was given high ratings. It was a Saturday at 11:30am. The person that answered the call was very courteous, and told me that they could set up a time to give an estimate between 11:30 and 1:30, and they would call when the repairman was 30 minutes away. They also told me that the estimate is free, even if I choose not to use them. They also said that they could give me NO IDEA of price until they arrived and looked at the issue. I took a chance and hoped that it would be less than the 200-250 other plumbers had quoted. At 12:30 they called to say they were running late and would call again. I asked for a time frame. "Hopefully within the hour" was the response. I told them I needed something concrete, as it is Halloween and I have a million things to do. They told me that is the best idea of time they had. When the plumber arrived, at 3pm, he walked in the door and said that it would be $298. That's it. He didn't even look at the clog! I was furious. Why didn't they just tell me that over the phone?! The answer is that I would have certainly used someone else. As it was, I had no time to get anyone else out here, and they knew that. He unclogged the drain in less than 10 minutes, with a machine. Since he was here and I paid such a ridiculous price for 10 minutes of work, I asked him to take a look at the refrigerator, which will not make ice. He said that he thought it is the unit and to call Sears. He also quoted on my 50 gallon water heater replacement, at 1175 dollars, very close to other plumbers I have called. The plumber was very courteous, but I would not use this company again because of the way they "hooked" me.
Description of Work: Unclogged kitchen sink, which had a clog that we were not able to remove with Drain-o or a snake. Also looked at fridge, which has a broken ice maker, and gave estimate on replacing water heater.

The repair for the drains was quite expensive even with our discount. I watched him and wrote down all the steps so I could just do it myself next time. He was definitely courteous and seemed knowledgeable. He was fast, it only took about ten minutes. They give you a window for when they will show up.
Description of Work: I signed a contract a year ago for Roter Rooter to come out once a year and make sure everything was working properly. When they first came out they tested the water temperature, looked at our hot water heater, etc. They came today and were supposed to do the same thing but he didn't do as much. He didn't touch our water temperature, but he took a look at our hot water heater and said we shouldn't have any problems. Two of our drains were slow and he did fix it them.

Set up an appointment for an estimate to replace the drain pan for the wash machine (where the water drains into the pipe in the wall). They told me they would call the day before with a more specific time frame. When they hadn't called by 5:00, I called them. After speaking to two people, a dispatcher said they would not be coming out at all since they did not have the "right permits to do that type of work in DeKalb. Some real miscommunication there. We've used them before and were previously satisfied. We went with another plumber who did the work immediately and at a reasonable price.

The sewer clean out drain had backed up into the yard. I called Roto Rooter and they came out promptly. He stepped out of the van and said "we will have to replace the pipe." He hadn't looked at the pipe, cleaned the drain or anything. He said it would be $263 to unclog the pipe and $250 to send a camera up the pipe to see if there was any blockage. The clean-out cap was damaged and I asked how much that would be to repair. He said $350. I told him "I know the parts to repair the cap is $20... where is the rest of the $330 coming from?" He said I have to do a little digging... I told him "not $330 worth... good bye." I called another plumber and they came out unclogged the drain and fixed the cap for a grand total of $147....for a savings of $716. Not only will I never call them again I'm telling everyone else about my experience.

The tech was on time, charming and efficient. At first we thought it was a problem due to landscaping work done on our yard the previous day. Later after investigation, he found that Dekalb County had been doing work in the middle of the night on the water line down the street. Since our water was now running clean, he did not have to do any actual work on the line. The plumbers name was Laz.

Originally he was simply going to rebuild the stems. This would have cost me about $335, but he could only get two of the three stems out. the third stem wouldnt budge. The only option then was to break the tile and replace, what he called, the body of the diverter. This was supposed to cost, no more than, $550. It ended up costing $579.42.

Given the constraints it went very well. Holiday Saturday morning and we had the first plumber on the job in 90 minutes. First plumber had a 120 foot snake that was not long enough. He called the problem in and another plumber arrived with a 150 foot snake that was adequate to take out some of the roots. Second plumber explained the problem, the roots were getting in where the city 6" pipe joined our 4" pipe. He wrote a report to that effect and helped explain to the City Sewer dept. the problem and get them to write a ticket to correct.

It was a Sunday so we got an apprentice boy! He got the snake stuck in the toilet. He grabbed all the white linen towels that were sitting in my washing machine and he started sopping up everything with them. Then he left announcing that he would have to come back with someone that actually knew how to fix it. He left the snake stuck in the toilet! They then dug a 20 foot hole in my back yard. They ruined my tile and refused to pay for it and they left the big hole in our yard for a month. I would never hire them again.

I am happy with how well they cleaned up. The work that he came and did was real good. The nice thing that we like is that they took the time to talk to us.
