It went very smoothly. College Hunks arrived earlier than 'advertised' but they called to confirm that the time was okay. The work was fast and efficient.
Description of Work: College Hunks hauled away one sofa and two wing-chairs. The haulers, Kyle and KD, were very nice and professional. I would definitely use them again.

The pickup went very well. Kyle and Felix were very professional, personable and clean-cut young men. Their mother's should be proud of the men they have become. I'm still amazed at how easily they managed to maneuver that hulking piece of furniture out of my old place, down an elevator and into their truck. Since I had originally searched online for junk haulers, I didn't realize that this is also a full service moving company. If I do require moving services in the future, this company will be the first I call.

Felix and Darrel did a great job. They are very professional and clearly experienced. They worked efficiently and ended up not exceeding the two hour minimum so I was able to give them a better tip. Prior to the moving day, Daniel contacted me to confirm the appointment. Phil set the original appointment. Everyone was communicative, responsive, and professional. They definitely made this portion of my move as stress-free as possible! I would certainly use them again and recommend them to friends.

Had lots of broken items they don't cover. Did offer to fix scratch hardwood floors. Everyone was really nice and professional it is just sad 2 family antiques were damaged and a dresser was destroyed. Custom upholstered headboard was very dirty and will have be reupholstered. With the price in how many hours it took on top of the lack of loading the truck correctly I will never use again.

I would not use this company again or recommend to anyone else. I went to this company due to them being a larger nationwide company and availability over a holiday weekend at short notice. I expected so much more from this company. The call center tells you the amount per hour at 2 hours and the travel/gas charge which is equal to 1 hour. I was okay with these because for a 1 bedroom apartment it should only take 2-3 hours at the max for the actual move. I've used movers several times before. It should not have taking almost 5 hours not including travel time for a 1 bedroom apartment. Once they arrived at the delivery location they ended up damaging the tile floor and personal items. In their defense, the movers did take pictures immediately of the damage and report it to their manager. That portion was professional. At the end of the move, I was told the price which I knew at this time would be too high. I complained to the manager about the service but he would not budge on this issue. He only stated that they would take care of the claims which I have yet to be contacted by anyone.

Response from College Hunks Hauling Junk and Moving
[member name removed], I apologize for your less than stellar experience with College Hunks. We aim to provide everyone with exceptional service and we definitely dropped the ball on a few things with your relocation. I know we have our handyman scheduled to address your damages in the near future. However I feel it took too long for us to contact you from our claims department to arrange this. It is not an acceptable excuse to say we had people on vacation for the holiday - we have since developed a contingency plan so future customers will not have to deal with this frustration. I have also addressed the miscommunication regarding the 'estimated time' and the confusion the two-hour minimum verses the total move time caused. Based on the information you provided during your initial phone conversation, we estimated your move to take between 4.5 and 6.5 hours. We finished in 4.75 hours. Perhaps us better communicating the estimated time to complete your move the 'College Hunks' way would have allowed you to make a more informed decision before your move occurred. Thank you again for your honest feedback. We hope you will give us another chance in the future. Regards, Roger Panitch President, College Hunks Atlanta

The two young men Alfred Tate and Phillip Ledbetter were very capable, managed the logistics with skill , did no damage, worked quickly, were pleasant, well spoken and presented professionally in this work role, - tidy, courteous well spoken. The local Hunks office contacted me back promptly, called to confirm and called to arrange a time adjustments. All this was done professionally, courteously. They went thru the necessary info at outset, before starting to work, informing me of rates, how calculated, and so forth. When I asked them to move a couple of cabinets within the storage room (nit hauling away in truck), they informed me thatI be charged at a different rate for that service, so I adjusted my request. The job involved hauling items up an outdoor RR tie stairway, which they handled with no prob at all. Seem like a trustworthy couple of young men, and in all, I was inspired to refer my soon, who's a college hunk, to call for a job! I appreciate that Hunks Hauling Junk recycles appropriately (eg., computer equip, old magazines). ...This is very very important aspect of the service you are providing. . a

They were wonderful! They loaded a U-Haul truck for my daughter's move to Nashville. They arrived on time, they were extremely courteous and professional. Phil Anderson was amazing. We were having trouble getting a truck and he moved the time the crew came to load up the furniture at least 3 times for me. He even recommended that we use a U-Haul rather than use them to move her. He said the price difference would be substantial (it was). He also helped me arrange College Hunks in Nashville to off load the truck.

I could have moved myself...all by myself... in less time.... minus the extensive damage to property and personal items, unfounded accusations and downright bitter attitude. I was shopping estimates for an upcoming move when I came across this highly rated Angie listed Company. Their web site talks about the client being able to "put their feet up" and a "stress free day", It also says they are a " licensed" company and no need to worry about damage caused by their team. The site also told that the Hunks would bring everything they needed to move, gloves, moving straps etc, I called and spoke with the owner, Roger, to get quote for packing and another for moving my 2 bdrm/2 bath condo and garage contents. (1314 sq ft) I explained there were 3 flights of steps to the unit and one more within the unit to access the master bedroom. We agreed a 4th mover would be needed due to heat and steps @ 198.00 pr hr plus a 198.00 truck and travel deposit. He would need to come do a walk trough if I wanted a packing quote. For moving he estimated 5-7 hours with 4 movers including drive time is what he quoted me on the phone that day. He did not mention or request to preform a walk-through prior to giving an estimate for moving. I called back the next day and gave him a CC # to book the date. When I had not received a receipt for the deposit several days later I called the number I had used to speak to Roger at College Hunks Moving Junk/ Moving Co. and got recordings that the number was no longer in service. I called the national number and after a short explanation they sent me a copy of my deposit. I received no other information , no rules, no regulations, nothing other a receipt. I received a call the day before the move to verify the size of my condo, the estimated 5-7 hour time frame, the 9 am start time and I asked then what size truck they were using and if it was enclosed, I was told the 26' truck would be large enough to do the jobMoving Day.*****9:00 am...no one.****** 9:05 am I received a call from the supervisor who said they were en route and about 5 minutes away. ****** 9;45 am they arrived. They had not been told of the stairs, they had not brought anything to drink or eat the high for the day was 90, sunny and humid. They had no gloves ,only minimal tools, no back support braces, no lifting straps, I gave them my gloves to wear, The guys were very personable and polite, It soon became obvious 2 of them did not have experience in moving much of anything, I told them to drink what they wanted in the frig to stay hydrated******12:45 pm lunch time came and they had only made a dent. I stopped my work and fed them. ( a couple of them did not even have money on them).******3;00 pm fatigue had set in with the less experienced hunks and they were suffering from heat and limping leg cramps. I pulled the supervisor aside and called out that the estimated 5-7 had lapsed. He called Roger the owner. I was assured it would not be over 2 more hours.******3:45 pm I was told by the supervisor it would take 2 trips and they still had not finished loading the first truck. I called Roger the owner. He immediately began to place blame on me for not allowing him to access the space prior to moving day to do a visual assessment, . ( the fact is he never asked....even quoted me 5-7 based on a typical condo seemed to not matter.) When I asked if I would be charged 198.00 an hour till they slowly completed the move, he turned the question back on me and asked in a aggressive manner," what would I like to see happen." My response was to be moved on that day not carried over to the following day and not for additional charges based on slow moving movers who were visible limping with cramps. The supervisor suggested another truck and driver be sent to assist for an additional 98.00 a long with the 7 hrs estimated time. No truck was sent. The movers staged most of my items from my condo in a unlocked garage.after dislodging and gouging the door frame and the front door by attempting to force a metal table through it. Not to mention the sides of the table.****** 7:10 pm I followed the truck to my new home where I was told the off load would move fast...2 hours max. The slow got slower,. They had no food and a couple had no money for food. I bought them each KFC meals for dinner as part of their tip. ******10:00 pm an unknown man caring some of my boxes passed me in the carport heading for the front door. I asked him who he was as he kept walking and he said ."Roger, the owner." What owner appears and starts moving about someone's home without at least making himself known to the client after multiple calls over the last 5 hours? He and another employee had come to find out what was going on and help.10;45 PM I pulled Roger aside and asked what his thoughts were a as far as what I could expect for this move that was already in the 11 hour ( 5 more than the max he quoted) I was told in a gruff voice, "what do you want to happen?".******11:15 PM Roger the owner he came to me and said he and the driver and his work partner were taking the truck back to get the other load. I luckily had friends helping me that could stay behind and supervise the remaining staff (so much for kicking back and relaxing per the website) as I went back to give the Owner access to the complex and unit i was moving from. He did not seem concerned in the least that it was well beyond the hours to be moving for most condo properties. ******12:15 am as they finished loading the last of my items on the truck, I took down Boxed and shrink wrapped food from the Refrigerator, a scrubbed, sanitized and cleaned cat box (also shrink wrapped, 2 planters ( shrink& wrapped) . I filled my Mini Cooper with personal items I needed to have available and a cat. Roger then decided to announce to me in hour 14, of an estimated 7 hour max move, they can not transport any of these items that it was against regulations. Regulations he never provided me with.( Items which on their website they profess to move). I had suggested when they pulled into the parking area, they turn the truck around before the lot filled with residents. They chose not to and had to back out of the complex with their truck making that very loud warning beep, beep , beep of the truck in reverse as they yelled and coached the driver of a 26' truck how to back out of the gated complex for over 20 minutes.... ( real thoughtful like). I heard from my old neighbors the next day who were awakened by the Movers. Still, no shred of concern from Roger the owner.******16 hours later*************(9 hours over the estimated moving time given by Roger the Owner)****************1:45 am , Roger;s business partner became the spokesman as they unloaded the last Items. He was cordial, understanding of my concerns and for the first time addressed my questions of cost. I just wanted the 16 hour nightmare move to end at that point . . They felt it was fair to take 2 1/2 hours off the total. Even for that small concession,I had to argue and reason why I should not pay for a 16 hour move so grossly unprofessional and destructive as the one I had just endured. A clam is pending payment on the door and frame that the hunks turned into junk.*******two days later****** I lost it when attempting to put together a $ 2,000 metal bar and the bolt holes would not line up. After over an hour, I slid the entire bar out of the corner they and placed it in, only to find huge dents in the metal body...huge dents that looked like they dropped it from the 3rd floor balcony. What professional mover tries to hide that as if the owner will never notice? They are very good a being deceptive. I then began to go back through the pictures of the unloading of the truck to see how furniture was wrapped or covered. I began to get furious. No furniture was wrapped in blankets. Chrome tables with rough cardboard boxes on top of them, Washer and Dryer in pristine condition now scratched on every side. Wood furniture on its side in the pictures show scratches where it was not protected form the flooring of the truck or other items piled on top. I am still finding damage as I unpack.Insurance? As the supervisor explained the costs and coverage I asked if Items would be covered if they did not pack them. He said no. Since I packed all but the furniture (which the wed site and Roger the owner says will be wrapped the day of the move) I declined. I was misinformed it seem..... Mislead is more like it.$300 is all that is being offered for their horrible clumsiness and negligence toward personal effects and property. (That by the way, is only being offered due to a law in Ga...not on any behalf of Roger the owner.) I have moved from Nashville to El Salvador via the Pan American Hwy, Atlanta, to Hawaii Via Delta cargo, Hawaii to Chicago via 40' container which included a mini cooper and a moped and dozens of stained glass pieces. Chicago, to Atlanta ( this time an entire stained glass studio) and would have never imagined an 8 mile move could be so unprofessionally handled and a complete nightmare as this one. the damage in my estimate in in the 9k figure, caused by utter disregard and then hidden from view. I will move myself rather than EVER consider giving any money to College Hunks Hauling and Moving. I caution everyone not make the same mistake I did in choosing this company. What a Pathetic excuse for a professional company with an Angie's list high rating.Move on to the next listed mover. Trust me.

Are some of the concerns mentioned in this review accurate, absolutely. Are all of them? Not even close. Yes, the move took significantly longer than the initial estimate. However, during that initial phone call I was informed of an inventory that was completely changed on move day. I expressed my desire to provide an on-site, in person estimate, and the client told me there was no need - this was only a 1300 Sq ft town home. I also explained I would 'have' to conduct an in person estimate if we were going to pack everything to which I was told that the client would handle all the packing. Proper protection is not wrapping your sculpture in a comforter, a garage bag, and some shrink wrap. I would also state that shrink wrapping pieces of glass to one another is not the correct way to properly protect it. But, according to the client, this was fine and everything would be OK. The volume of items in from this 1300 sq ft town home filled two of our largest box trucks. To give you a perspective on this, a typical 3 BR, 2500 sq ft house with a living room, dining room and kitchen will fill one of our trucks. This town home filled two. I take blame and ownership for not insisting that I conduct an on-site estimate. For had we seen the volume of items, this move would have definitely been scheduled over a two day period. Was my team exhausted by the end of this move? Absolutely. They were mentally prepared for a 5 -7 hour move. Because of the cramping issues as well as a few additional breaks and trying to come to a resolution we took four hours off the total time. An additional two people were on site for the final 3 and half hours as well. I was one of those people, along with another one of my managers. We immediately introduced ourselves to the client's roommate who was in the immediate area, and began helping our team move the items into the new residence. Was I happy - of course not. I was both upset that we were not fulfilling our brand promise as well as mad at myself for not insisting on that I conducted an on-site estimate. I knew I was aggravated with the entire situation and therefore had my manager handle all communication with the client. We offered to contact our handyman to repair the door we damaged, hopeful that we could have him there the next day. There are three sides to every story, my side, your side, and the truth that probably lies somewhere in the middle. I have a handful of moves that wake me up in the middle of the night because of the confluence of challenges that occurred during them. I am sure this one will do the same.

My daughter was stopped at an intersection behind a College Hunks truck. The truck had stopped in the crosswalk and was blocking pedestrians from crossing the street. The truckdriver backed up to clear the crosswalk and crashed into my daughters car. When I contacted the owner to have his insurance company repair the damage he decided to try to avoid responsibility. He actually said " How do I know she didn't take a sledgehammer to her car?" Is this the kind of person you want to do business with? I wouldn't trust them to take out my trash

Response from College Hunks Hauling Junk and Moving
The above comment is only part of the story. When my driver backed into the car, his first question was ensuring the driver was OK. Her response was, "I'm OK, but my car is a little scuffed up." At that point my driver explained that we needed to call the police to file a report. The driver then responded that she did not have time for that. Once again, my driver explained that it was our company policy to obtain a police report. At this point, the driver said "don't call the police". She took our information and left. We then called the police to file a report, however we were instructed that because one of the parties involved had already left, they would not file a report. The comment that I, the owner made, to the father was "I am not insinuating or accusing your daughter of anything, however because she left the scene and refused to have the police come there is no way for me to know if she did more damage to her car - took a hammer and banged on her hood, if she was under the influence of any kind or if she was driving on a suspended license. Once again, I am not suggesting she did any of these things, however because she left the scene, there is no way for me to know." Both my insurance company and my attorney explained that because your daughter refused to wait for the police (to ensure none of the examples above were true) we cannot be held liable.

We called Hunks on Friday to discuss moving some old furniture. By Monday they were at our house with a fair estimate - ready to move our furniture. Daniel and Rico did a great job. Should have taken the hint when I called and two times the sales rep did not return my call - I had to call back both times with questions. The movers are not professional, just strong hands which we needed. However, my grandmother's antique secretary was pulled apart and needs repair to use the top glass display portion, but the bottom is OK and we are using it without the top. A metal sun medallion was packed last minute and stepped on by the movers and broken as the door to the truck was being closed. One of the rays was broken off and needs to glued back on to use. Movers were on time and pleasant to work with, however next time we'll use another service. No follow up phone call from the company to see if we were satisfied - good customer service would made sure that happened.

Jajuan and Mack were professional and pleasant. They did exactly what they said they would!
Description of Work: Jajuan and Mack moved a three piece desk from a bedroom to a loft. They removed a large glass top table from the loft on the second floor, downstairs to their truck. They removed a large armoire that had already been broken down into pieces, and a small pile of discard.

This is actually a tale of two cities: Nashville and Atlanta. I have given College Hunks an overall "B" because of the inconsistency in service from one city to the next which obviously can be an issue with franchises or even just different managers. I moved with Atlanta College Hunks a week prior to this move; converging two different households in two different cities! Due to the success with that move and the Atlanta office, we decided to use them for Nashville and another Atlanta move. Again through the booking center I was given time frames for call backs from each office. As with last time, Phil in Atlanta was prompt and called me within time frame. We set up the move and all was great. Nashville's contact unfortunately missed the appointment window and when they called back I could not answer from work. I left a message and was called back by someone else; this person was familiar with procedure but wasn't based in Nashville.?? The day before the move, Carol in the Atlanta office called me to confirm everything and gave me her cell number for Sunday. Since I was driving from Nashville she was most helpful in assisting me with timing and making sure the movers I had specifically requested were available: Malcolm and William. I never heard back at all from the Nashville office until the morning of the move when the lead HUNK, Justin, called to let me know they were headed toward our residence. He was very professional and clearly knew the appropriate policies and procedures. The other HUNK he had with him, Mike, seemed to be new, he was young and admittedly he called himself "3/4 of a HUNK". Not all movers have to be 6'4" with huge muscles but I found Mike to be unsure in his movements and seemed to be learning. This was concerning to me on a two-man move. Everyone has to have time to learn the ropes and gain confidence but I thought it was inappropriate to have someone so inexperienced on the move. Due to Mike's lack of experience, it put a bit of extra pressure on Justin as he plotted out and carefully loaded my UHaul truck like a puzzle. Justin was the caliber I was expecting: efficient, confident and handled everything with experience. I thought Mike was a nice young man, very polite but he showed a lack of experience in the way he handled a few things. Example: I had my fragile boxes marked with red tape and the words "fragile" across the top and front. Mike had two small fragile boxes sitting atop one another and then balanced them on the arm of the couch to reach down and place another box on top to carry it all out. I just watched and gritted my teeth hoping the two boxes wouldn't fall off the precarious position where they were sat. They didn't. Whew. As I saw the Nashville team struggling a bit to get two larger items loaded (Justin actually had to call supervisor Nick to assist with an armoire Mike wasn't comfortable handling - which I respected), I called Carol in Atlanta to add a third mover to the unload. She assisted immediately and had another mover confirmed quickly. It took a bit of time to get me loaded but then I was on my way to Atlanta. Once I arrived in Atlanta, it was the level of service I had experienced previously: quick but careful, punctual and professionally knowledgable. Malcolm, William and new addition Jajuan did a great job. A bit of a knick on the hardwood entry way and a couple of small wall scrapes but they maneuvered tight corners and 3 flights of stairs with efficiency. I would call Nashville again but would hope for consistent service. Atlanta is on my speed dial.
Description of Work: College Hunks loaded my possessions in two different cities for a long distance move.
