Veterans Movers

We got the name of Veterans Movers from the U Haul website and contracted with them because they were veterans, stated on their website that they brought all their supplies, were insured and guaranteed their service and then told us that four people would load us. The lady, Amy, we talked to seemed so nice. She said they would pack walls of boxes with furniture in between so nothing would touch. All of our boxes were packed together in the front of the pods, not in between the furniture. When they showed up to load us, they did not bring any supplies incl. blankets and shrink wrap and only 3 people came. Halfway through loading one of the men had a problem with asthma and was very little help. They loaded with only the few blankets provided by Pack Rat, furniture touching furniture, metal touching wood, etc. Nothing was tied down. At the end they were just added things on top, filling in spaces, with no blankets. When we arrived at our destination, we had 15+ pieces of furniture ruined included my dining room table and chairs and a 200 year old antique poster bed. Several other antiques were damaged and several upholstered pieces had puncture holes. The cane on three of the dining chairs was punctured with chair legs. They had loaded bags of charcoal on top of my white living room sofa and it is ruined. The men who unloaded us said they had never seen anything like it. I took lots of pictures and immediately called them. Amy apologized and said David would call me back as soon as he came in. I asked if they had insurance and she said they did. Not only did David not call me back but I have tried several times since to reach them but they will not answer my call. I called the "personal" phone number they listed on their site, but the person answering had never heard of them. She did say she had had many calls from others trying to get in touch with them with problems. I called the insurance carrier that they listed on their website but the insurance company said they had nothing on Veterans Movers or them personally. My attorney suggested that I file "theft by deception" charges against them which I will be doing. I will probably be out the thousands of dollars to have my furniture repaired/replaced but at least they won't be able to do this to others.
