+ -1 moreFive years ago, my mother was looking for a roofer to replace her roof. We had 3 estimates done, which came out to be pretty much in-line with each other. We hired M&C Roofing. Two years later, we noticed the leaks on the ceiling. We contacted M&C Roofing to check the roof. The guy inspected the roof hammed in a few nails that pop out due to normal wear and tear and pressed the heatpipe cap down to completely closed the gap thinking it would prevent rain going in, not understood this invited mold and carbon monoxide to the house. Recently, we noticed there was mold forming on the ceiling in several spots and all over the walls in the house. We were able to clean the mold off the wall, but we were concerned about the ceiling leaking again. So we contacted M&C Roofing to come back again and checked. We were told this time that our heatpipe was too old and rusted and that we needed to contact the heating company to replace it. We also noticed and asked why there was a section of the shingles that showed different color. We were told they installed a different color shingles by their mistake. After speaking to the heating company, we were told that because the piece that needed to be replaced was above the roof, we needed to find a roofer to do that. So, we contacted 3 different roofing companies (M&C wasn't one of them. If they were able to do that, they would have done the pipe replacement already) to assess the work and provide us with the quotes. To our surprise, all 3 roofers were surprised to learn our roof was only 5-year old as it looked like 8-year old. After their assessments, all 3 roofers told us the poor workmanship M&C Roofing did 5 years ago in addition to the section with a wrong shingle color: the shingles were not lining straight but curving, the pipe boots were filled with nails (8 nails to secure each boots, which means 8 holes on our roof at each boot) and sat on top of the shingles (instead of underneath), the shingles flip upward. What was especially shocking was when the roofing company we hired to fix the heatpipe came to replace the pipe, we found more problems: the weather seal was missing in a big part of the roof around one of the ventpipes, the layering of the shingles next to the pipe boots were reversed - no wonder there was a leak on the ceiling, and it took very little effort to remove the shingles as they can be torn easily. After all these findings, I reached out to M&C Roofing for explanation. Marcus Clay (the owner) said he would come over and inspect the roof but never showed up. I contacted him the second time two weeks later but still see no sight of him. What a liar!! M&C Roofing cheated us with their poor workmanship, used the wrong materials, and shorted us with materials use. Honesty is missing in this company.

+ -1 moreExcellent. Started on January 26th and expected to take 2+ days. Arrived at house at 7;30 am and began removing old shingles. New shingles and associated materials arrived by 8:00 am. On site was a Project Manager who has the GAF Factory-Certified Master Elite Roofing Certification, a Foreman and one roofing crew. The temperature was in the low 40s and around 10:00 am it began to drizzle. The Project Manager proceeded to bring in a second roofing crew to expedite the work. Under very adverse weather conditions on a very steep roof, work continued until 7:00 pm when it became too dark to safely work on the roof. By this time the new roof was approximately 98% complete. The next morning, one crew returned to complete the roof and thoroughly clean up the worksite. I found the workmanship and work ethic by everyone on site very impressive.
Description of Work: Removed old shingles and put new GAF Timberline shingles with Lifetime Warranty on our house.

+ -1 moreOn Monday, April 28, a two-man crew came out and my tenant let them in. She offered to show them the leaks, but they declined to look at them. She reports that they went up on the roof and worked for about half an hour. The crew repaired some of the torn vent flashings, but missed one close to the chimney. They also did not replace the missing shingles as promised in the Big Deal advertising. Instead, where a shingle was missing, they cut a slot in the shingle below it, then cut the shingle above it and pushed the cut shingle into the slot. This gave the appearance that the missing shingles had been replaced, but in fact they were not replaced, and the cover-up left the roof exposed to rain. They also did not do a gutter cleaning as promised in the Big Deal advertising. The also nailed toe-boards into existing shingles but failed to seal the nail hole when they removed the toe-board. In other words, they did only part of what they had agreed to do, engaged in a fraudulent effort to cover up part of what they failed to do, and just failed to do another part of what they agreed to do. On Tuesday morning, the tenant reported to me that considerably more rain had leaked through master bedroom ceiling that before M&C repaired the roof. I contacted a roofer I had worked with before, and who had been busy around April 9. He came out on Friday, May 2. He charged me $225 to repair the torn vent flashing that M&C failed to fix, and stopped another leak in the vicinity of that vent flashing. He also caulked the toe-board holes and the area around the missing-shingle coverup, although he did tell me that the shingles would have be replaced. He could not believe that the roofing crew was so unprofessional as to fail to look at the leaks. You have to see where the leaks are and go inside the attic to follow the water back to the point where it's coming through the roof. The bedroom ceiling damaged by the leaks had to be replaced in its entirety at a cost of $948. M&C's professionalism was completely inadequate from start to finish. The quality of the work was pretty much of an unmitigated disaster.
Description of Work: I purchased a $699 "Roofing Overhaul" Big Deal on April 9. When I paid for the Deal, the web page stated that the provider would contact me within 2 days to schedule the work. It also asked me to provide my first, second and third choice of dates for the work to be done. I requested April 21, 22 and 23. I figured that providing 12 to 14 days for the contractor to schedule the work was reasonable for a job I was paying for in advance. No one from the company called by COB on Friday the 11th, so I called the company first thing on Monday, April 14. I told the person I spoke with that I was working with a tight timeframe as I had a tenant moving into the house of April 26 and need to have the roofing work done by then. He said that M&C could accommodate me and would send a crew to do the work. We made an appointment for April 22 at 11:30 AM. I had scheduled 8 other contractors to do work on the rental house the week of April 21, and recorded their commitments to do the work on my Repair Plan. There was no question that M&C committed to do the work on April 22. The other 8 contractors all showed up that week and did their work. On April 22 at 11:30 AM, a M&C rep showed up by himself. He did not identify himself but was wearing an M&C polo shirt. I figured he was the crew foreman arriving to looking over the job before the crew arrived. He said he needed to go up on the roof and look around. He asked me what work needed to be done, and I gave him a copy of the Roofing page from my home inspector's report that showed that there were missing shingles, torn vent flashings, and a small opening between roof and soffit in the back that could be caulked. All of this appeared to fit within the scope of the Roofing Overhaul as advertised. He asked me if there were any other roofing issues, and I said no, which was true. I'd spent four full days in the house at that point, but it hadn't rained, and I noticed no leaks or signs of leaks. When he came off the roof, he said that the work could be done for the $699 I'd already paid, and that there would be no additional charge. He confirmed that a gutter cleaning would also be done. I then asked him what time the crew was coming. He gave me a flip answer. He said: "I could tell you anything, but you wouldn't be able to count on it, because I don't handle the scheduling. You need to talk to Jeff - he's the scheduler. But you can expect that the work will be done in 30 to 35 days." It took all my self-control not to go off on this guy right at that moment. If I'd known he was the owner, he'd have gotten it with both barrels. But I figured he was an estimator, and if there was a scheduling screw-up, it was probably not his fault. One thing was for sure, though. If M&C said on their Big Deal offer that a estimator would come out in 14 days and the work wouldn't be scheduled for 30 to 35 days after that, I would have never bought the Big Deal. Since the company had failed to fulfill their commitments under the Big Deal offer, I contacted Angie's List by email and received a reply from Alyshia Smalley, ECommerce Supervisor. Ms. Smalley intervened immediately, and on Friday morning, April 25, she notified me that she had contacted Jeff, the scheduler at M&C, and that Jeff would be in immediate contact to set up an appointment. I did not hear from Jeff on Friday, and Ms. Smalley recontacted him on Monday morning, April 28. He agreed to send out a crew that morning. I contacted Jeff to confirm that a crew was coming out. The tenant had moved in on Friday night, April 25. It rained over the weekend and she reported that the master bedroom ceiling was leaking. I told Jeff that it was important for the crew to get out there that day because of the leaks and because more rain was expected Monday evening. He assured me that a crew would be out.

I waited through the weekend to hear from them, but no one has been in touch with me.

+ -1 moreThese guys were great. We started with a roof repair and upkeep Angie's list coupon, but they were very careful to look at our whole roof (now 20+ years old!). They explained everything that would need fixing and then let us decide about going ahead with a new roof. Let us take all the time we needed to decide. They were flexible with the schedule. Then, got that new roof on in less than 3 days. Clean-up was fabulous and follow-up fine. I would recommend them to anyone! Really great crew all around.

+ 0 moreI'm in the process of probably taking them to court. A couple of the boards they used was messed up. The work was not done correctly. The whole chimney was rotten and the board needed to be replaced. Everything had to be torn down to be completed. The roof as far as I could see was installed correctly. He should have said he would come back and refund the money for the chimney. He never offered. I think it was poor customer service. When they were trying to get the business everything was good. Once everything was done it changed.

+ -1 moreWe have had trouble with leaks on a room addition for over 15 years. Several "patches" were done by 3 different roofers but M & C Roofing let us know that if we wanted another patch, he wouldn't do it. Basically we were told either we let them do it right or M & C wouldn't do it at all. Their quoted price was close to the same for more "patches" quotes and the owner's honesty was refreshing. He even had my husband climb on the roof to personally see what was wrong. None of the other 3 roofers we got estimates from did that! Work was done well, no hidden surprises due to the original inspection M & C did. Took 1 1/2 days to complete, clean up was excellent, and roof is finally fixed right!!! They really know what they are doing and can be completely trusted to do an EXCELLENT job you can depend on!

+ -1 moreI had originally called to get a price on replacing the vent boots on a foreclosed home i was trying to purchase. Marcus met me there and although he was running slightly late he did call and let me know. No big deal to me. If your service provider isn't busy there may be a reason in my mind! Anyway, He quickly climbed up on the roof and hit me with some devastating news that I needed a complete new roof. This destroyed me. Trying to protect my best interest I asked for a quick quote on a replacement cost. He honored my request although he repeatedly informed me that he hated to do a rough guesstimate but understood my position. i had to have some kind of idea to go back to the seller with $$ wise and it had to be about an hour from when we met. Fast forward to the seller rejecting my offer but then we agreed on a lower price and I owned the home. I then decided to get my usual 2 more estimates on the repairs to the roof vents. I have heard repeatedly how roofers are some of the most dishonest folks in the business. Both of the other companies told me that I needed a new roof as well so I began getting prices. Marcus then got down to business and was able to give me a detailed price quote that wound up being lower than the other 2. He also was able to offer interest free financing for a year with no payments which certainly helped with the cash flow. His advice as to what color was very helpful. I really wanted a wood color and he informed me that it would look phenomenal for about 5 years then due to the large amount of hardwoods on my lot they would begin staining it. This sad but true fact was confirmed. Only problem was now getting it installed. He was willing to work Thanksgiving week if necessary. He knew I was trying to celebrate Christmas in the house and was more than willing to do his part. Unfortunately Mother Nature was very uncooperative with us.The only delay in getting it installed as promised was waiting for a few days break in the weather. This is certainly understandable. Once the break came they showed up with a large crew and got right to it. They protected my landscaping and brand new HVAC compressors. They worked well into dusk and were very fast and efficient. To date I have found I think 3 nails leftover that they missed. I read the other reviews on here and found Marcus easy to get a hold of and courteous and friendly as well as trustworthy and honest. By the time it was all said and done I felt like i had purchased a roof from a friend. To those looking at the price paid and saying WOW that's high! My roof is very large with a steep pitch and lots of dormer windows. 2 stories in the front and 3 in the back. Lots of gutters as well. He did offer me the option of going over the old roof and took the time to explain the pros and cons of that. + -1 moreCalled M & C Roofing to see if someone could come out an give me an estimate to correct a major leak at my front porch. I was given a day and time agreeable for both of us. Marcus Clay showed up on time on the appt. date and inspected my roof. While up on the roof he took pictures of what was causing the problem and other areas that need to be corrected. Several of the problems were due to the builder not installing it correctly when the house was built. He gave me an estimate to correct all problem areas of the roof along with the water damaged plywood. I agreed to the price and work described and Marcus said he would fax me a detailed estimate for my signature which he did the next day. The work was scheduled and completed on the day promised. The roof was water tested and a guarantee was given. Pictures where taken by David as he was making the repairs and also upon completion of the work. The pictures were emailed to me for my records. The work was completed and everything cleaned up in a timely manner. I was very pleased by the professionalism and the quality of work performed by M & C Roofing and I will use and recommend them in the future.
Description of Work: Removed and replaced entire valley of the metal roof over my front porch. Installed flashing along the entire metal roof where the metal meets the shingles. Replaced rotten plywood under the metal roofing. They did a very professional job and the lead is gone.

+ 2 moreFrom the time I filed my insurance claim until we actually had the work performed, I interviewed about 8-10 potential contractors over the course of a few months while waiting to resolve matters with the insurance company and get on someone's calendar. We had a very wet summer and many of the contractors I called were too busy to meet with me or failed to keep their appointments. Although they were also back-logged at the time longer than I initially wanted to wait, it turned out waiting was the best choice I could have ever made. Marcus, foreman David, Katie in the office as well as the entire roofing crew KNOW what they are doing when it comes to a entire roof replacement. Not only that, but they LISTEN to the customer's wants, needs and expectations for the job and go out of their way to meet or exceed these expectations. Unlike some pushy salesmen, Marcus was a true professional and patient with our many questions by taking time to answer all of them and ensure we were satisfied with the plans and contract. Ultimately, we are quite pleased with the finished product and so glad with our decision to use M&C Roofing. Good price, great service and excellent material & labor warranties. Job well done!

They helped fixed a leak that was leaking into my home and was messing up my inside walls. Since they fixed the leak I have not had any issues since they have come out.

+ 1 moreThey were absolutely excellent. The property was cleaner after they did the job than it was before the work. They did the job quickly and professionally. In the beginning they provided a detailed list to have me approve for the work and they stuck to everything they said they would. They were in and out quickly and before I knew it the roof was complete. The price was acceptable compared to other estimates. I would not hesitate to use them in the future and I would recommend them to anyone. I was treated in a professional, courteous, non-demeaning manner for the entire job, they just took care of me like a normal customer should be. They were competent and they were just very good at what they do.
Description of Work: They put a new roof on my home and they had to tear off two previous layers of roofing. They put on gutter guards as well. They cleaned up all around where the chimney is attached around the roof. They completely changed the flashing out as well. They created a way for the water to split and not well up around it and create leaks.

+ 1 moreMarcus came to the house July 8, 2013 to give us an estimate. He went into the attice, then checked out the rooof. Then answered any/all questions I had as he was checking the roof. He emailed us the estimate that night (at 10:30pm) the estimate included picturers of the problem areas on the roof. This young man knows the roofing business. On July 18,2013 we signed a contract with M&C Roofing. Saturday July 20, 2013 the materials were delivered to the desinated location in the diveway. July 30,2013 the job was started. This roofing crew worked like a well oiled machine, each and every man knew exactly what to do to get the job done quickly. Very impressed. That afternoon the work was started on the porch ceiling and finished on July 31,2013. Did excellant job cleaning up the job site. The roof and porch look great and this is from a women that worked for a Home Improvement Co. in Va. for over 8 years. With any construction job there wiill always be some kind of hiccup to come along no matter how well planned or supervised it is just the nature of the work. Marcus and his crew delt with the problems that arose, and resolved them with little or no delays.
Description of Work: Tore of existing roofing, remove existing vent pans, replaced damaged plywood. Installed new felt, roofing, vent boots,flashing, ridge vents. Removed the damaged siding then took down and replaced ceiling over the front porch.

+ 0 moreMarcus showed up when he said he would and did a complete inspection of the roof and attic and provided an estimate for the roof replacement before he left. M&C went out of their way to work with my insurance. They showed up on time and worked hard all day to finish the job the same day!...before more rain hit! David showed up the next day to finish cleaning up and used a magnet to pick up nails that had fallen into the yard and bushes. He also completed a few finishing touches that we requested. We are very satisfied with the service, quality and professionalism M & C roofing showed. Even the staff I spoke with over the phone were extremely friendly and helpful. Marcus takes his time to explain everything to you and answers all questions. He does not make you feel like he is in a hurry to get to the next site. Very respectful group of folks. Although M & C was not the cheapest quote I received, I feel I made the correct decision in hiring them. The price was not that much more, but the quality and professionalism was. The new roof looks great and I am confident my family is protected for years to come!
