Big Dog Stump and Tree Inc

I contacted Big Dog and spoke with Chris about an estimate to cut the top out of a holly tree next to my house. Chris arrived when scheduled and gave me an estimate to remove the top of the tree and clean up when they had finished. They were able to come sooner than we had arranged and the job was completed very quickly. Before they left, the area was cleaned and you really could not tell they had even been there. I was amazed at how simple they made what to me would have been a very big headache to do myself. I highly recommend BIG DOG when you have a tree problem on your property.

Arrived on time, did the job as per quote, and cleaned up. Second time I used them.

It's a tight neighbor hood, with a lot of fences around. They dropped the tree piece by piece, and hauled it to the street to a waiting truck. They came back in and ground the stump and cleaned up their mess. They worked fast and were courteous. Good folks.

Getting them out to do an estimate was the only problem I had with them. I started in May and after 3 contacts, it was August before they came out. The only reason I let them do it, was because I had used them 2 years ago and they did such good work. When they came for the estimate, the gentleman apologized for the delays and gave me a really good price (discount) on the job. When I agreed to let them do the work, they came out within two weeks. All of their workers are very courteous and work hard. They had to take down part of a fence to get the equipment in the back yard and they reinstalled it when completed. They did a good job of cleaning up afterwards.

They came buy and cut two tall pine trees sand ground the stump were you couldn't see their ever was atree there. Each tree was 500 bucks. Called them back for one more tree removal, the same type of tree tall skinny pine,and they want to charge 1,100 . No way

I called and scheduled an estimate to cut down two trees about two months ago. They sent out an employee, who completed the estimate. This employee told me I had to talk to my neighbors because Big Dog would need to drive a truck on their yard to get to the trees. I did this, and called said employee back to inform him. He told me that he ALSO needed to talk to my neighbors. And I never heard another word from him. I called Big Dog three more times after trying to get ahold of the employee I had been working with. Big Dog told me that I would be receiving a call within 24 hours each time I called, but I never received a follow up phone call. After waiting for two months for service, I've decided to hire another company.

The crew arrived on time, well organized and very team oriented. The interaction and explanation of the procedure was satisfactory. During the process, all limbs were quickly removed from blocking any part of the street and the area was blown clear of any debris continuously. Cutting and removal of the maple tree was done surgically and exacting even though there was a high fence and a house in the area, with little room to maneuver. Cleanup was excellent.

I called Big Dog on a Tuesday for a free estimate; someone came out to my home that afternoon; he gave me an estimate for $1k (which was the exact same quote that I received from two other companies), but instead of waiting weeks as with the other companies, the Big Dog representative said they could be out to my house the next morning (Wednesday) at 8:00a.m The entire workforce (trucks, grinders, cranes, climbers, bobcats, and workers) were lined up in front of my house, and a few of my neighbors..... but they did NOT block anyone's driveway) at 7:57a.m ! They stuff all their large equipment into my yard, began to work, and everything was complete within 2 hours....this includes the clean-up time.

Very professional crew, prepped the pool area to accommodate heavy equipment that was needed for back property. Excellent service, clean-up, promptly arrived at time designated and work was completed start to finish in less than half a day. 4-5 man crew... The men that pruned the trees were amazing... Climbing up the trees and pruning by hand while tethered and secured by a spotter on the ground - all safety measures in place. We are very satisfied with their service. Impressed with their expertise and arborist that advised on health of some of the trees and how to care for them. All the limbs, brush, cuttings were cleaned up and mulched on site by their big truck. We will definitely use their service again !!!

About 1/3 of a 30-foot tree in my front yard had fallen and blocked the street in front of my house in the 'burbs. I called BIg Dog about 8 am and the supervisor arrived in 15 mins to provide an estmate to remove the entire tree for 500 dollars. A couple of hours later, half a dozen guys showed up with three trucks, a bobcat, and a mulcher and got to work clearing the street, cutting down the rest of the tree and grinding the stump level. One hiccup: a falling branch struck a cable strung between the house and the utility pole, but no damage. They got the job done quickly for a fair price.

The tree was in a high risk place (close to house and power lines, near gas line) and there were no complications. The tree was removed and now looks like it was never there. No debris or trash was left onsite.

Excellent job. Arrived as promised, assessed the situation and listened to my concerns and performed the job without questions, removed offending branches, cleaned up afterwards. The wintry weather did not permit an earlier response, but that is understandable.

Had used this company twice before (2007 and 2009 I believe) and was happy with the job done. All work was preformed, site cleaned up nicely and no damage done. This job was left incomplete. Area not cleaned up very well, one stump removal not complete and some trimmed branches left hanging up in the tree. Employee damaged good tree by banging a jammed limb cutter against the trunk trying to free it up. About five cuts put in trunk before he was told to stop by the job supervisor. Called office to get the stump removal finished and was told they do not chase roots. Told them it was not chasing roots and please come and take a look. Never heard back from them. Hired another firm to finish the stump removal and get the high cut limbs out of tree. Did the rest of clean up myself.

A 4-man crew from Big Dog arrived at 7:30AM--complete with a large dump-truck, a front end loader, stump grinder, and a cherry-picker (which was not used). A crew member climbed the tree and removed limbs as he climbed. He felled the top of the tree into a perfect location, began a descent--felling sections of the trunk as he came down. They loaded the logs into the dump truck, ground the stump, raked the yard. Its hard to tell where the tree once was located. The entire job took about 2 hours. I highly recommend Big Dog.

Jason was out the same day I called and provided a fair estimate for the removal services. The crew was on the job within a week. They were extremely professional and fast. I was impressed by how well the team worked together with no wasted time. The stumps were ground out and everything was cleaned up and everything in the yard was left better than when they arrived. I believe the price was very fair for all the work they performed. I will certainly use this company in the future.

EVERYTHING WENT SMOOTHLY AND ACCORDING TO PLAN, I HAVE NO COMPLAINTS. I AGAIN WOULD NOT HESITATE TO CALL THEM.

Note that my review date is much later than the date the work was performed due to the fact that I only recently became a member of AngiesList. I have found the reviews on this site very helpful, and felt obligated to help fellow consumers with a review of my experience with Big Dog. Overall, I would say they did a good job but did not complete all the work they agreed to do. The best way to describe it is that they operate like a typical and quot;bigand quot; business. One guy came out and quoted the job, a crew of entirely different people did the work, and although I was told multiple times that they would come back to complete the job on another day, they never returned or returned my phone calls once they were paid. The crew that did the job worked very slowly in the morning (so I assumed they would be at my house for two days), the equipment broke down and caused a 2 hour delay in the afternoon, and although the worked until after 6pm, they did not trim several tree limbs that were supposed to be included as part of the job before leaving. I mentioned this to the crew lead several times, but he said they would not do it because it was not documented on his work instructions and they were out of time for the day. The said they would stop by and do it on another day when they had some extra time. Although I expressed my dissatisfaction with this response, I got no cooperation from Big Dog staff over the phone either. Bottom line is they did not complete the job. Also, the crew that did the work only laid down plywood over my lawn (before backing onto my yard) when I asked them to do so. I was told this would be done for all trees that required them to back onto my lawn. Bottom line is the service that was described during the quote was only met because I and quot;requiredand quot; them to do so. On a positive note I can say that they cleaned up thoroughly. My recommendation is that if you use Big Dog for tree service, review the the crew's written work instructions when they arrive and do not let them start the work if there is any ambiguity about what will be done. I also would not pay them any money until the work agreed to is 100% complete.

They are a local company. They have lots of equipment and a big crew. They were in and out and completed the job in fours. They were here in the morning and gone by noon. He is very good. He has an arborist in there. He had a bobcat, chopper and a couple of trucks. He had all the equipment that he needed. I saw other work that he did and asked them about it. The price is fair. They are speedy and efficient.

I was very pleased with their services. I get the impression they are a pretty big business. The price was reasonable.

They are professional from top to bottom. The lady who takes care of you over the phone is top notch. You couldn't ask for any better. The guys that come out to do the work are in and out in no time, professional, and clean up after themselves. They do what I ask them to do. They are perfect. I wouldn't use any other tree service.

I would recommend them and I will use them again.

Tim Wheeler was the representative for my area. He was highly professional, responsive and above all caring. He promptly responded to phone calls, emails as well as a two home visits before the service date. He was very thorough in explaining the tree health as well as the best possible way of removal. After talking with him, was confident that we were in very capable hands. On the day of service, the entire team arrived promptly. They worked efficiently the entire day and even removed a few dead branches that weren't on the list as a courtesy. Moreover, they cleaned up their mess as they went throughout the day and left my yard in excellent condition. If I have to remove another tree, Big Dog Stump and Tree will be the first company that I call!

They were very efficient, they had a big crew with a lot of heavy equipment, and they did it all in one mornig.
