Valdes Painting

I had to wait a few months to write this review in an effort to be completely fair. We worked with Valdes thru our Contractor. Our contractor has worked with the owner of this company for many years. After meeting the owner we felt that he was overall an honest, hardworking business owner. However, his crew leaves a lot to be desired. While he was onsite his crew was great, very efficient. As soon as he left, it was a different story. When we arrived at our renovation for the first time (we were moving from across country) the team was there. We had some issues with timing so they were waiting around for the window team to finish before they could start. I understand that this is just part of the process. They had already finished the outside of the house. When the team finally did get to work inside the first thing I noticed is that they did not prepare the walls for painting. The floors had just been done, and every inch of the house was covered in sawdust. BLECH. Also, we noticed they didn't spackle before painting the walls. In hiring a painter, these are common expectations. Had I know this wouldn't be done, I would have done it myself. I called the contractor to report our findings, he contacted the owner and the team went back and corrected the spackle issues. We also had them paint our kitchen cabinets. We saw that they pulled the cabinets down and sprayed them. Unfortunately, they didn't actually sand the surface before spraying so it caused EPIC dripping :( Called contractor again, he called owner, team attempted to fix. Team failed miserably. They just sanded the drips off, this obviously looked ridiculous. Called contractor, he sent someone to come by and view, owner came by to view, team attempted to fix again. Owner stayed on site this time to ensure it was done right. Overall in the end we were semi-satisfied (the end fix was a significant improvement over the first two attempts, but no where near our exceptions of a professional), we still have drips and mistakes all over the house. Infact, the front door was painted, but they left the lock box on the door so there is a large patch under the lock box that is bare, and now peeling away. Awesome. I desperately wish we had painted the inside and door ourselves. Lucky for me, I will have to repaint the door. The stress and time this took from us is well worth warning others about. I would not use this company. Again, I think the owner is a great guy. However, his team is a direct reflection of the business. I should add, I work from home, I had first hand experience with this crew. At one point, while on the deck, which is adjacent to my office I watched the crew play swords with their broomsticks for a solid 15 mins. Grown men, playing swords, right outside my window. You can not imagine the frustration. One last thing, the team also left my porch swing outside in the rain for about 2 weeks while they painted the porch. When I finally found the porch swing it was covered in a white film, I have since tried to clean, even sand the film off. No such luck, I have had to strip and repaint the bench. This is such a fun project! NOT.
