No punch list, left my house unfinished, windows painted shut, wrong paint color, window screens not installed or installed dirty. Paint spray not controlled, areas not protected, furniture left out in the rain. And they gave me $500.00 not to write this. Check not cashed. Crew that worked even hit my car. 5 year warranty is only given when they know there will not be a claim. Since the owner sold the company custermer service became just a phrase.

The experience with VP Painting has not been a positive experience at all. First the workers showed up late and left early every day. The quality of work is poor at best and the owner does not have any interest in doing the job right. We had two areas with water stains. During the quoting process it was explained to Scott Sherman the owner that we wanted to make sure these areas were properly treated which we were assured they would be. His workers did not pre-treat the water stain areas before painting they simply painted over those areas. After the paint dried of course the water stains began to show. We called Scott Sherman and he did come out and look at the complaint. He scheduled the same two guys to come out and correct the problem. They sprayed the two areas with Kilz from a spray can and we could see right away the colors would not match and made the area more noticeable. Scott Sherman told us to "let it dry". Of course letting it dry did nothing so again they came out and painted those two areas. After painting those two areas it was obvious the paint was not the same color as the rest of the room. Again we contacted Scott Sherman and he sent his worker out to fix the problem. His two workers came in and we addressed obvious issues and he told us he did not have the right tools and he would not paint the entire ceiling to match because Scott would not pay him. They went to their truck sat there for several minutes and left with no explanation. We just received a letter from Scott Sherman stating he was not going to make the job right and sent a check for 150.00. As you can see from this post we started the process with Scott Sherman and VP Painting on 11-17-15 and paid him 3410.00 and did not get what was promised and paid for. The involvement with VP Painting has been an extremely disappointing experience and what makes all of this worse is we are repeat customers. The only alternative we have is to seek help through the court system. UPDATE 3-12-16 We have resolved the issues with VP PAINTING.

Response from V P Painting & Home Improvement
I'm Scott, the owner here at V. P. Painting. This is still an open invoice for us but I needed to reply before the deadline. I had hoped that my delay would have brought better news. First, a copy of the letter we sent, referenced in the customer's complaint. The only changes made were to remove the names due to Angie's policy: ------------------------------------------------------------------------ - Although it's an extremely rare occurrence, I always regret when a job goes south in any way. I value you as a return customer, which is why I provided a more-than-fair price for the work and sent back 3 times to try and make this right. Before I go any farther, I will tell you that has been a painter for over 35 years and is one of the most professional craftsman painters I have had the privilege to work with. To recap: the trouble with the ceilings was two-fold. First, the primer he used on the water spots kept bleeding through, although he used the correct type of primer and allowed it to dry before applying the finish coat. Secondly, the paint that he used to touch up the areas was a slightly different color than the original. This shouldn't have happened. We use a basic, non-tinted flat white for all ceilings and the color shouldn't vary at all from gallon to gallon. We've alerted Valspar to this. When I went back to your house after the second touch-up, I saw that the shininess over the water spots had been fixed but there was this color disparity problem. It was because of this that I decided to send Robert back a third time to repaint both the whole foyer/upstairs hall ceiling and the whole continuous kitchen ceiling at no charge to you, in order to make things right. Now, during the original job, called me a couple of times to say that he was having a hard time dealing with disrespectful comments. Being a true professional in a customer service business though, he put his nose to the grindstone and continued with the job until he was finished. After emailed me about (and I had a look at) the needed touch-ups, I decided to accompany the guys to your house in an attempt to at least divert her comments to me, and let them do the job they came to do. I accompanied them the second time for the same reason, with the same result. The third and last time however, I wasn't available to accompany them and disrespectful attitude and comments came to the forefront before they even got a good start on things. This is the entire reason the guys left and won't be coming back...and why I won't be sending anyone else. One further note...according to the highly detailed notes I took during the estimate, asked us to address the really, really rough shape the kitchen/hallway walls were in after the last time they were painted, which we did. There was no mention at all about addressing the roller ridges, etc. on the ceiling. Regarding the ceiling, she only mentioned priming the water spot(s). I wouldn't have paid anything to repaint these ceilings if there hadn't been the problem with the paint color or if this had been his fault in any way. The amount of this check is simply the labor cost I would have paid Robert and his son to repaint the ceilings in this particular circumstance ($25/hr x 2 workers x 3 hours). There isn't a dime of profit in it. In other words, it's not what I would have charged you to come in and paint those ceilings as a separate, complete job. Since you brought it up in your text, I believe this amount would be seen as a fair settlement in any court. Again, I'm sorry that it had to come to this. Regards, ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Now, V. P. Painting is not an Official Member of Angie's List (yet). The other reviews here were completely unsolicited. As you can tell from them, we're a professional, service-oriented business with a long history of fair dealings and satisfied customers. As you can also see from the letter above, my General Manager and I have been doing everything within our power (and within reason) to satisfy this customer from the very beginning of the job. Other than the threat of court, the customer has made no real mention about what it might take to satisfy him. We originally offered him the $150.00 check mentioned in the letter. We have since offered him what we charged to paint this part of the larger job originally, a total of $320.00. We have also offered to have another crew come in and do the work. All our offers have been refused. And finally... we've asked this customer to get a few estimates from other companies to redo these 2 ceilings. Nothing was submitted to us until yesterday, January 11th, just 2 short days before my deadline to respond here and nearly two months after the complaint was filed. While getting 3 estimates is more or less your standard practice, the solitary estimate he submitted to us on this late date was priced at $592.05. This is nearly twice what we offered and quite a bit more than what would be considered a competitive price for this job in his market. This estimate states that it was delivered to him by email on 12/31/15 but he didn't submit it to us until yesterday. So, it appears we're at an impasse, for now. As I said in my letter, I always regret when a job goes south in any way and it's particularly regrettable with a return customer. The adventure continues...

The guy providing the estimate was prompt, efficient, and provided a very thorough quote for all work to be performed. He worked with my wife through several iterations, very responsive and understanding of our needs. The crew was also prompt and did a great job. There were a few things here and there (light fixtures with paint on them, wall plug faceplates with screws missing, paint on the ceiling fan), but nothing major. For the price they charged, I could not be happier with the work. They were quick and did a good job.

Everything went according to the plans that were laid out. Was delayed several days because of rain, but that is to be expected. The two guys that did the work were very personable and worked hard, and cleaned up after the job was finished, even scraped the paint from the spray off of my sliding glass door. Then Scott (owner) made a follow up call to insure that the work was done to my satisfaction. This is service beyond what I ever expected, and being in real estate has given me a really clear picture of what most contractors do! V.P. is a stand out as far as commitment and service.
