John Perry came in to complete the tile installation for our master bathroom remodeling project. John gave us a tremendous amount of information regarding our selection of tile, as well as an accurate estimate of how much materials we would need. In addition to tile on the floor, the work included two shades of tile, separated with a border, that encompassed the shower stall, wrapping around a pony wall enclosing the stall, and ending across the wall behind the vanity. While we made all of the decisions regarding the materials and design layout, we took advantage of Mr. Perry's extensive experience in his trade to assist us. Mr. Perry was always on time, and cleaned up the work area at the end of each day. He coordinated directly with our plumber as to the correct clearance of the shower pan so as to ensure the proper fitting of the tile to the drain, as well as the placement of the shower valves. Mr. Perry also worked with the tile distributor on those occasions where additional or other type of materials were needed for modifications that were required to maintain the design layout as the project developed. Mr. Perry's work was second to none, resulting in a spectacular finished product. He was always very friendly, professional, helpful, and his integrity is above reproach. Mr. Perry's price for the project was more than fair. We also used Mr. Perry for the installation of travertine thresholds along two sets of french doors, as well as tile work on the back patio. We would not hesitate to call Mr. Perry for any tile related projects we encounter in the future.

We contacted John in advance of doing our demo of the bathroom so we could time it just right. Based on our experience before, he's a contractor that actually shows up when he says he will. He stopped by a few weeks in advance of our beginning so he could refresh his mind on what we needed. He gave us an estimate, which is his daily rate of $400 and estimated 2 1/2 days. During the demo and build-out we decided to go with 2 niches instead of just one, but John was able to complete it in the same amount of time. Just as before, he was prompt in the morning, worked contiguously throughout the day and cleaned up before he left. John is the type of person you want doing your tile. He's really skilled, has a good eye, and always willing to answer any question you may have. We went with 13" tile for the walls and 20" for the floor. We really like the look of the 20" on the floor, it really makes the bathroom look so much bigger. John really pays attention to detail, making sure everything looks right.
Description of Work: This was our second bathroom remodel for this year. We used John on the previous bathroom and were so happy with the work, we had him come back for the second one. Bathroom floor, shower enclosure, and baseboard.

My home was built in 1951 and has had many additions so the floor was a challenge to John. His main concern was that the floor be level in every area so the marble would lay properly and look it's best. Consequently, he had to float the floor with differences of 1 to 2 inches to compensate for. He was meticulous in every step of preparation. He also noted a roughness of the marble edge and sanded the sides of every single 24" piece (300+) he put down. The end result is an absolutely beautiful marble floor! In all instances, John went above and beyond what you would expect from a service contractor. Aside from being a skilled craftsman, he is very considerate. He helped move furniture, used extreme care with my piano and grandfather clock and made very little mess, cleaning up each day before leaving. His presence in my house for almost 4 weeks never was an issue. He actually helped me make a few decisions with other work going on in the house. And....he brought in my mail, answered my door and even washed out my garbage carts one morning---nothing having to do with his job. When the floor was finished John even came back to replace an old tile windowsill with marble, as a favor to me. I highly recommend John Perry for any kind of tile work you might need.
Description of Work: John laid 1250 sq.ft. of Imperial marble in my home. This area covered my living room, sitting room and family room and the hallways leading into the bedrooms. He first had to remove and dispose of all the existing carpet. I purchased the marble on my own, with his advice, and the above price was the cost of John's installation.

john did all the demo. we ran into a few problems with install of the tub. john had to come back and fix the problem, which set him back a couple of days. once the tub was in john went right to work installing the cement board and tile. because of the problem with the tub install, the job took him longer than he expected. he refused to charge us more than the estimate even thought it took him longer. i can't say enough about him and his quality of work. the bathroom turned out spectacular. as we knew it would. this is the second job that john has done for us, he did our glass tile backsplash in our kitchen.there is a long waiting list for his services but, well worth the wait. my only regret is i have no other work for him to do. i need to apologize to john for taking so long to write this review.

We recently bought our new home and shortly after moving in found that our master shower was leaking...and had been doing so for years. I found John here on Angie's list. I was very pleased with all of his reviews and within a few days of our call he was able to come over and provide us with a complete estimate. John was very upfront with us regarding his schedule, costs and recommendations on how we should redo our shower. Once our tile was in from the tile distributor (we ordered this ourselves) John was able to get us on his schedule. He showed up on time and got our job done within 3 days - retiled the bathroom floor, repair and tile the shower. He was very professional and kept our home as clean as possible. Overall, our experience with John was wonderful. He is a nice, professional man who loves what he does and really takes pride in his work! We'll be calling John when it's time to remodel our other bathroom.

John Perry is an absolute professional, in all ways! Punctual, respectful, courteous, and truly cares about the quality of his work. I can't recommend him highly enough. My husband and I were/are undergoing a complete kitchen remodel. We hired John based on reviews here on Angies list. Because this was a complete remodel, our job had to be done in phases. John was absolutely MORE than accommodating in this respect, willing to pull out of the house when there would be a conflict with another trade, such as cabinets being installed and the like. He always met our needed time lines, even if it meant working a bit late (and being a bit late picking up his daughter! Thanks John!) There was one day in particular I remember needing to do important errands, and the battery in my vehicle had died. Not only did John willingly offer to jump my vehicle, but he had me sit in the car while HE pushed it in the driveway so the cars lined up! I don't know many contractors willing to go the extra mile! John sure did. His work is as close to perfection as I can possibly hope for. He is meticulous, and truly cares about the end result. There is something I can't say about too many trades men, but I trusted John in my home implicitly. I even left him as my 'watch man' per sé, when there were other crews I was not as familiar with in my home, and I needed to run errands. Honestly...not many I can say that about! If you need a job done, done WELL, and done by one of the nicest and most professional true Craftsman you will meet, John Perry is your guy! Beware there may be a wait before he can get your job into his schedule, but once he gives you a date, he will be there, on time, and ready to give you an excellent result! Grade: A PLUS, PLUS, PLUS!!!!
Description of Work: John installed porcelain tile in our kitchen, living room, and hallway. Due to the condition of the original slab, this required true patience and professionalism. He had to do quite a bit of leveling just to make the floor somewhat level to make the installation go smoothly. He did amazing work!

I'm remodeling one of our bathrooms and needed to get an estimate regarding doing the tile. I used Angie's List to search for and contact John of Tile by John Perry. A couple of things I liked right away. One, was that he was busy and couldn't do the job right away. Second was that he was up front about his schedule and when he could commit to begin. I was fine with his schedule and we met for an estimate. The bathroom was still intact so he could see it in it's current state. I let him know we were changing from a 3 wall shower to a 2 wall with a Frameless Glass shower enclosure. I told him my thoughts and he offered his suggestions as well. John mentioned that he's very meticulous, and I am too so we got along well. John has an hourly rate for small jobs and a daily rate for multi day jobs. Since this was going to take about 3 days, I opted for the daily rate, which was more cost effective than other quotes I'd received. We picked a date that worked for both of us and said we'd touch base a week or so before just to confirm and make sure I was on track for the install. I called roughly a week before the start and confirmed the start date. I invited him to stop by to check out my progress and to make sure everything was ready for him to be able to begin. He did and all was set. The weekend before John was going to start, a friend of mine asked how it was going with the tile guy. I said he would be here that Monday. My friend said, wow, a tile person that actually shows up when they say they will. John showed up right on schedule and unloaded all of his tools and supplies. I supplied the tile, listello, and sliced and tumbled stones. He supplied the thin-set, grout (color of my choice) and other miscellaneous stuff. The house was built in the early 70's and nothing was square or level. For John, it was all in a days work. He also flattened out the floor so the tiles would sit better (no extra charge for this). I wanted the floor tiles installed on the diagonal and John mentioned that the tiles wouldn't roll, or follow the curve of the floor very well and that the points would stick up a bit. He didn't want that to happen and said flattening out the floor was the best option. John got right to work. I took vacation from work so I could be here for the install. I always like to watch and if possible, learn something new. John didn't mind all the questions I had as he worked, although I'm not sure he realized how many questions I was going to have. John's been in the business for many years and is a 1 man operation. He goes by the saying that if you want something done right and the first time around, you have to do it yourself. That is his work ethic. He does was needs to be done to do it right. John finished at the end of 3 days as he said he would. He cleaned up after himself and gave some pointers on how to take care of the tile and grout so it would last a long time. I'm going to be doing the other bathroom in a couple of months and I'll definitely be giving him a call back for that one as well. I guess I'll need to schedule him now, because he's already booked a couple months out. It will be a few more weeks before the bathroom is complete but I'll submit photo's when it's done.
Description of Work: John estimated the amount of tile and installed the tile needed for 1 of our bathrooms. It's a small bathroom, roughly 8' x 8'. He installed the floor tile, wall tile, listello for the wall, shower floor tile (actually sliced and tumbled stone) and shower curb.

John is the ultimate professional. From the first call I placed to him for an estimate to the time the installation was done he was responsive in returning phone calls and/or e-mails and arrived when he said he would. John's 20+ years of experience and attention to detail produced a great new look to our bathrooms and he didn't leave a mess behind as many contractors do. John does all the work himself which results in a beautiful finished product. We plan to have John replace the tile in our master bath next.

We left a message with John and he called us back in one day. He was on time to complete the estimate, which was in November 2011. He explained that he was very busy and that he wouldn't be able to do the job until well after January 1, 2012. It was well worth the wait. He completed the work very timely and just as he explained. He answered all of our questions and was punctual every day he was here. Even better than all of the professionalism is the tile work that he completed. Everything looks so good and we couldn't be happier with the results. It was a truly wonderful experience to work with such a true professional. His character and trustworthiness are unmatched in any contractor that we have ever dealt with. While John was working on our house, our new baby came a little early, which was on a garbage pickup day. Without us even asking, John put out our trash and even brought the can back into the garage. We think this shows what kind of person he is. If you have trouble getting in touch with him, I would continue to try until you reach him. You won't be disappointed.

We called John to help us when the contractor who did our original shower remodel did not return our phone calls. There were multiple problems - the pitch of the curb was to the outside resulting in water running out of the shower. There were tiles with uneven cuts on the curb. The grout joint were too large on the side wall and the floor. John returned our phone calls promptly and showed up when he said he would. He thoroughly explained the problems and his solutions, and he did the work over a weekend in order to get it done sooner.

Description of Work: called for quote to remodel my mater bath and tile the bedroom. I called left message and next day he called back when I called again voice mail again and never heard back nine days later....I guess you don't need money in this economy. Even still speaks of business practice. Who wants to hire a non responsive person to do work in their home. I hired a respectable responsive company I felt comfortable working in my home....guess you lost thousands dollars by not having followup or care for potential clients....I would not recommend must be a single person show!

John was very courteous and timely, starting with his first visit and quote, right on through the job. He works very carefully but steadily, and finished our floor and tile wall quicker than I had originally expected. Price was very fair, and work shows the mark of a quality craftsman. Look forward to hiring him again!!
Description of Work: Tiled our 1/2 bath floor & entry to bath in a standard ceramic tile, and tiled one wall of the 1/2 bath with a high-end decorative tile. Involved having to cut some straight lines in old flooring to make clean joints, and cutting around an old gas pipe.

John came to my house to evaluate a leak I was having on my second floor porch which has a marble surface. He was on time and very professional. He gave me some ideas and said to try them first before re-tiling. I took his suggestions and they are wroking well. He did not charge me even though I know he came some distance. I can understand why he has a back log of work. Thanks, John

Well! John did it again! We hired him to do work on our new kitchen last January and he performed the task exceptionally. This time we had him tile the floor in our bathroom as well as tile the walls in our shower room. And Again! he performed exceptionally. He offered design suggestions and completed the work over two days. He is, without a doubt, the best. Not only is he the ultimate professional, but he is totally trustworthy as well. We had to go out of town on one of the days he was scheduled to work so we just gave him the keys to our condo and he worked right through our absence. I would recommend him in a heart beat.
Description of Work: He removed the carpet from walk-in closet and vanity area and replaced it with 71 square feet of tile and put a three inch decorative stripe across the middle of the rooms. He then put tile 53" high in the shower room for about 100 linear inches along with a matching three inch stripe near the top.

After our kitchen flooded we needed to redo everything. We had gone to Lowe's for nearly everything and it was going fine. Until it came time for the backsplash. They sent a guy to measure and he found no problems. The day of the install, their contractor walks off the job saying the walls are warped and unusable. Lowe's decides that this is the case even though their first contractor found no problems and drops us with a refund. Left scrambling, we found John on Angie's List. We called John and he came over the next night. He looked at our kitchen and found nothing seriously wrong with it. He took measurements and gave us a quote right there on the spot (cheaper than the original Lowe's quote). The quote included labor, cement for the tiles and the grout. He gave us the name of some places to look for the tiles we wanted and what we would need. It took my wife and I some time to find what we wanted and then it wasn't exactly what John had suggested. We called John back to take a look. He fit us in even though he was running around with his kid. With the tile secured, we setup a day for John to come back. He showed up at 9am sharp and went right to work. The amount of detail was impressive. He did our whole kitchen by around 3pm. He cleaned everything up and was done by 4. On time and on budget. No surprises. I would recommend John to anyone out there.

What a great job! He came and quoted us, we accepted, and started work about 2 weeks later. The whole job took about a week, and every single day he left the bathroom and house looking as clean as it was before he started. He was great at helping us make a few tile color/pattern decisions as well. Would definitely use him again if we ever do more tile work - no question!

John Perry is a true professional and an expert in this industry. He was able to overcome the obstacles he encountered and the tile lines look perfect. He is very detail oriented and focuses on quality workmanship. The job came out exactly as I visioned or even better. I would recommend and hire John again in the future.
Description of Work: John Perry did an excellent job installing porcelain tile throughout a bedroom condo. He also remodeled the bathtub surround installing new walls, porcelain and glass tile. He also installed tile baseboard throughout the unit. He adjusted doors to fit properly with the increase in height to the floor. He worked very well with the condo association providing all necessary documentation and the association was very pleased with his professionalism.

My overall experience with John was outstanding, to say the least. Below is a detailed explanation of my dealings with him: Scheduling: He scheduled an appointment to come by my place and look at the work that needed to be done, despite his busy schedule. He was very punctual which gave me a good feeling from the very start. After we went over the scope of work, he estimated how much tile I had versus how much I needed. He offered suggestions that only someone who does this kind of work on a regular basis would think of to help me reach my ultimate goal and I'm extremely thankful for that. He let me know what his work schedule was and gave me an estimate on when he thought he'd be able to tackle my job. As time went on, he'd contact me letting me know that he hadn't forgotten us and would get to our job soon. Pricing: When I received the quote, I was pleasantly surprised! It came in a couple hundred less than another person I requested a proposal from. And the other tile guy simply asked me for the square footage and threw a price at me without visiting the site. John came to the site, performed a thorough evaluation, suggested a few things (whether I was going to choose him or not) and gave me an excellent price! Workmanship: The previous workers who installed my tile were a joke! They left the tile loose in many areas leading to me wanting to have their work redone. John took the tiles off and pointed out to me that they used the wrong thinset. It didn't adhere to the tile which was causing movement. He completed the tile work in our baby's room, bathroom, closet, and storage area. He even helped me out with the shower liner that was installed. He instructed me on what to ask the plumbers for and how they should complete the work. After the plumbers came by and just threw in the shower liner sloppily, he came in and neatly folded the corners so that the drywall could sit flat against the wall. He also put the durock back up on the wall, then proceeded with the wall and floor tile. I can tell he takes great pride in a job well done. Professionalism: John was discarding some of the junk items from the other room and would go down, returning with the contractor bag. I questioned him about this and he said that it was a way for me to save money by reusing the same bag. Also, most importantly, he didn't dump the excess thinset down my sink! I live in a condominium so that could've been a nightmare. He would dispose of his excess material at the end of the day, making sure to leave the place just about as clean as before he arrived. He is very professional and considerate. I look forward to working with him again on our future projects. I've dealt with plenty of contractors on this renovation project and he is hands down one of the best! I would highly recommend him to anyone of you who needs tile work performed. Write me if you'd like to see samples of his work. Thanks. Frantz Tassy Miami, Florida
Description of Work: 1) Installed cork and tile for bedroom floor (cork was what I had left over from previous workers) 2) In shower bath, installed wall and shower tile along with , border tile, bullnose, and shower floor. 3) Installed threshold between bedroom and 2nd bathroom. 4) Repair a few tiles that were extremely loose in main area. Additional work: 1) While not part of the scope, John went ahead and repaired several floor areas with loose tiles. 2) He also adjusted the shower liner the plumbers worked on and put up the durock.

I found John on Angies List after I had several changes in dates from another tile company. He was very professional from the first phone call to the last follow up phone call to see if we needed anything and if we were happy with our floor. I learned more about tile in 10 minutes with John than hours with tile specialists in the stores. He did the design I wanted and helped with the grout color. His choice was much wiser than mine. To find someone of this calibur in this day and age is a blessing. I would and will recommend John Perry to anyone who is thinking about doing tile work. Thanks John PS looking forward to you doing the guest bathroom in the near future.
Description of Work: I had 1000 sq ft of tile removed and replaced by John in just a couple of days. He was very neat and kept the dust problem down to a minimum. The rooms we had closed off did not have any dust.

While moving equipment from the garage, into and out of my house, John scratched my son's brand new car in two places. My son asked John about the scratches because he knew the scratches weren't there before. The car hadn't been moved out of the garage for two days, but immediately my son's allegation was denied. I personally know John scratched the car because the car didn't have them the night before. I checked because my son had a gum stain on his rear bumper, so I went over the car completely to see if there were any other problem areas. John should have advised us to move the car out of the garage during the duration of the work. This would never have happened had he thought of asking. I consider his behaviour dishonest, at a minimum. I would never trust him to do a job for me again!
Description of Work: I needed 8 to 10 ceramic tiles replaced in my guest bathroom. I had a water pipe, which burst open under my house. The plumbers had to tear a hole in my floor. I needed the tiles to be replaced.

What a difference in professionals, which John Perry definitely is. He came on time as promised to obseve and give a quote. A few days later arrived on time prepared to work. He had the required documents the condo needs, supplies, worked quietly & meticulously focusing and completing the project above my expectations. An excellent job completed on time and at the quoted price.
Description of Work: Installed marble backsplash as the final phase of a totally new kitchen in an older condo.
