If you are assigned this company via an insurance claim, please request any other company but Paragon. Michael Wood, the business owner mind you, has zero professionalism dealing with customers and is incompetent on his best day. I am currently mid project with Paragon and (it’s been 2 months and we are still sitting in a torn up house) and this has been the worst contractor experience I’ve ever had. The team can’t communicate deadlines, doesn’t show up on time, and sometimes just no shows for days they are scheduled to work. Michael does not care about customer service at all and will go weeks with out calling you with updates. I’ve called him 3 times over 2 months so far and have received a condescending attitude and raised voice every time I call. Mind you I’m doing his job by reaching out to him to get updates on the work I’m supposedly paying his company for. His work crew left an open sewage line in my house for 6 days, and shattered my toilet flange when they removed it. Idiots literally left the toilet bolt in and snapped the flange. Paragon will not take responsibility for this or fix. I had to call my own plumber to come out to do the fix. Fortunately, unlike paragon, that company came out day of and made the fix. I think it’s telling that every review on this site has the same experience. Don’t work with paragon.

The owner, Mike, couldn’t possibly be more condescending and arrogant. Definitely look elsewhere for your project, and if you happen to have Allstate and are referred to Paragon through them, simply insist that anyone other than these folks handle your repair. You will be happy that you did.

It went well. Paragon has very talented and friendly employees. It was a pleasure working with them and Michael Wood.

Bottom line: The owner is arrogant and condescending and tries to force you to do your project his way. We had flood damage in our 2nd floor master bath that soaked through the flooring and caused water damage in the garage. The water remediation folks (not Paragon) removed the flooring and dried everything, then Kevin Thornton from Paragon came out to assess the damage and complete a repair estimate. I asked him what our options for flooring were b/c we were thinking we might try to use this opportunity to remodel what the original owners had put in (laminate). He said the best option would be to wait on the estimate and then find out what the flooring allowance was and then go to a place like Floor and Decor to see what we'd like. After the insurance negotiation, he came back w/the final estimate and said that after the sign-off a PM would be by w/some flooring samples. This immediately sent up a red flag to me b/c we wanted to choose our flooring, not be presented w/limited options and then choose from them. I emailed Kevin to clarify this, but never heard back from him. My wife spoke w/the PM (who happened to be the owner of the company, Michael Wood) and was told the same thing about having to pick from samples. I called him to discuss, but we traded voicemails--this is where things went downhill. I had not previously spoken with Michael Wood, so his voicemail was my introduction. It was evident in the sighing, drawn-out delivery of his message that he did not wish to have the conversation, but I gave him the benefit of the doubt. When I reached him, the delivery was the same. His first question was whether or not I had installed the floor, and then what my aversion was to picking from samples. I told him b/c we wanted full autonomy on what products were used in our home, AND his estimator told us we would be able to choose our own (even going so far as to suggest where we could look). Instead of leaving it at that (I mean, how loony are we for insisting on final say in the products used in our new home?), he insisted on us choosing from his samples, asking, and quot; How does choosing from samples restrict your choice?and quot; Well, I didn't even bother to respond b/c it should have been evident to him that if, for example, there happened to be 100 choices of flooring available, and his sampling was anything less than those 100, he would be limiting our choices and forcing us to put what he wanted in our home. His reply was, and quot;We do not install other people's material.and quot; When I asked him why, b/c unless he was getting a cut (either in the form of a kickback or discount from the retailer) from the sale or was the manufacturer of the material, then it didn't matter what flooring we chose. He took exception to this and said in a huffy tone, and quot; No, I am not getting a cut, and we do not install other people's material.and quot; When I said that it should not matter what the material is b/c a floor is a floor is a floor -- the same installation steps occur for all flooring once you determine which type of flooring material you use. Again w/an off tone he huffed, and quot; You lost me. I don't know what you're talking about. We don't install other people's material.and quot; The only reasons he could have for conducting business this way are: -- if he were the manufacturer or getting a kickback/discount from his source that allowed him to maximize profit. -- he works on a lot of insurance claims and had predetermined which materials offer him the biggest profit margins. -- he kept stock and needed to unload it. -- he had a list of materials he knew performed well and didn't want to use anything else so as to better ensure a successful job. He never said why he wouldn't install other people's material, only kept insisting that he wouldn't do it. If his reasoning were any of the first 3, that's not the customer's concern. If his concern were the last, that's admirable, but it's still the customer's ultimate choice--it's their home after all, not his. He could simply give his professional opinion, and possibly get the customer to sign a waiver and move on. e Michael Wood's repeated insistence on dictating what materials we could and quot;chooseand quot; to put in our home (especially after his estimator told us we could pick what we wanted), his arrogant and condescending tone, and repeated attempts to talk over me ultimately led me to encourage him to engage in auto-copulation (w/no profanity before that point). Who knows, he may in fact be a paragon of construction, but we'll never know b/c they are certainly not a paragon of customer service.
