They did an excellent job painting our house. There was a problem with some of the paint where they rechaulked; there was some mildew. Apparently, there was an issue with the primer they used. So, they sent someone back out and he was here for about 6 hours repainting that whole area. I was impressed that they honored their guarantee and fixed the situation. They were pleasant to work with.
Description of Work: They painted the entire exterior trim and porch of our brick house. They also repaired and replaced some rotted wood.

If you are looking for customer satisfaction and hope to find a painting company that cares about you and your circumstances look somewhere other than Dixon Painting. In the work that we have had done in the past they did a good job and returned to paint areas that had been missed, but I have to believe that there is a company that cares about the customer! When you are paying to have a service performed you should not have to deal with the last minute anxiety of a company not showing up and notifying you within 13 hours of the service that was scheduled 3 weeks in advance.
Description of Work: We have used Dixon for Painting for over 8 years, interior and exterior painting. They most recently completed an interior job, in November and we agreed to schedule an additional job to include wallpaper removal, interior painting and trim work painting. I met with Fernando, he said that it would take 2 days to complete the job and I explained that finding 2 consecutive days would be very difficult. We were able to schedule the job for December 21 and December 22, I stated that the work needed to be done in this time frame and he said he would confirm. I never received an email or estimate of the job and called to check the status on December 19. Muriel conferred with Fernando and confirmed the two days and stated that he would call with an estimate. Fernando left a message with an estimate, I confirmed the date and job again with Muriel. Everything was confirmed again around noon on December 20. I received a phone message at 6:43 pm on December 20 stating that they would not be coming on December 21 but would be at our home on December 22. I called and spoke to Muriel and stated that this would not be possible due to the 2 days required to complete the work, she conferred with Fernando and said there is nothing that can be done. I stated that it was very difficult to find 2 consecutive days on my calendar and that I had stated this to Fernando at our initial meeting and that the work had to be done by December 22. I called Fernando on December 21 to express my disappointment and concern that there is no customer loyalty. We have used Dixon Painting for 8 years and we have been very patient when they had to delay or extend the days, this situation did not allow for any delays. Fernando stated that I needed to understand that he has no control over the weather and the fact that it had rained. My concern was that the forecast was for 3 more days of rain(in which it did rain) and my job was an interior job. Dixon Painting is not sensitive to special circumstances and really does not value the individual customer. I have recommended this company to many friends in the past but I will not recommend them again.

They did an excellent job: pressure washed and cleaned the entire exterior, sanded the trim where necessary and then painted the entire house which is a two-story with a daylight basement so it was a fairly challanging structure to paint. They started on a Tuesday and finished on Saturday. I would defintely recommend them and will likely use them to do some interior paint work in the near future.
Description of Work: I had them do a complete exterior paint job. The quote by Ian was very thorough and reasonable and the work performed was done just as promised. I had the entire stucco repainted and exterior trim along with some minor wood rot repaired and the deck re-stained as well.

They did an excellent job on all the repair work to the rot.. the picture window rot was a huge job. They painted all the trim and siding and were very clean with their spraying and made sure all the windows were covered. The front door didn't come out as good as I would have liked but I did get what I paid for.. they really should have sanded it more but I never discussed my expectations of the door as it was in semi bad shape. I do think they had a communication gap between management and the workers though. The workers did not have a work order and there were a few things on color and such that we needed to iron out.
Description of Work: Pressure washed and chalked house and wrap around front porch and back deck. They painted all the trim including the white ceilings of the porches and the columns. They also painted all the hardy plank siding, all shutters and the front door and the decks and railings. The high up picture window needed to have the sill plate and brick molding replaced and they also had to fix some rot over the garage door.

We have used Dixon Painting several years ago and were very pleased with their work. Again, we have found them to be excellent. They work as a team and strive to provide customers with outstanding service from start to finish. Ian did an excellent job of reviewing the work to be done, writing it up and e-mailing the estimate. He was extremely professional and the amount was right on. He kept me informed about when the painters would be scheduled and showed up the morning they started work to make sure they knew exactly what work needed to be done. The painters were very professional and they really cared about the quality of their work. They used the best products, moved and covered all the furniture and used drop cloths on the floors. In a few hours someone from the company came to inspect their work and to make sure that things were going well. Much to my surprise toward the end of the day the owner, Fernando Dixon, came to check on the painters work. As with any project there are always a few adjustments that need to be made. What makes a company special is how they make those adjustments. The company sent Juan who did an outstanding job of making sure that all the corrections were made. Dixon Painting did a great job. My husband and I were very pleased with the quality of their work, their professionalism and that they really cared about pleasing the customer. It was a pleasure to work with Dixon Painting.

I contacted Dixon and two other painting companies for estimates. Two came in close to the mark--a third was almost $1000 over and talked about some rotten wood at the top of the house that Dixon and the other lower estimator confirmed wasn't rotted and just needed caulking (I wondered how the other company could say it was rotten from looking at it over 10 feet away). With the Angie's discount, Dixon was the lowest bid. I confirmed that I wanted them to do the work on the 7th or 8th of July. I wasn't in a hurry and they still scheduled the work within the next week with the power washing with the painting to commence three days later. Due to the rain in the area on the weekend prior to them starting, they had to postpone painting for one day, but they warned me it might happen and then confirmed it on the day they were originally going to start. They were able to start the next day. They estimated two or two and a half days to do the work; it took them a little over a day and a half. There were four painters on site -- one acting as supervisor. The supervisor went after the paint I specified while the others were doing prep work. The company inspector came to review the work after they finished and he took the check. Both the power washer and the painters went above and beyond the job requirements. The power washer also removed some mildew on a part of the brick that wasn't being painted. He was extremely thorough! The painters sprayed the paint on my siding in the back of the house. When I pointed out that they had gotten paint on the chimney cap, they got some black paint and painted it as well. The painters replaced an extra board railing and a step that wasn't in the work order and actually nailed down the other railing more securely (with screws). I let the estimator know what they had done, and he did not charge me for the extra work. I pointed out a small spot on my front door that didn't look even. The supervisor repainted the entire door. They cleaned up their work, water bottles, etc and left the site neat. They carried my items on the deck back to the painted areas after they dried. They did an overall outstanding job, and I will use them again!
Description of Work: Power washed house and deck. Re-caulked and sanded where needed. Painted Hardy Plank siding on the back of the house, all trim, all gutters and downspouts. Also, replaced two railing boards on the deck, one step, and painted the deck.

The interior painting went pretty much ok, except that we had to call them back to paint some areas they had missed. The exterior work was not at all good. They did the usual pressure wash and rotted wood repair of the window facings, sills and columns, prior to the exterior painting. We also had them remove the old gutters and install new ones, including gutter caps. Later we discovered several specific problems: 1. They had not installed all of the gutter caps; some were completely missing. e noticed this on the lower roof level; who knows what was done on the upper level. If we had not noticed this and pointed it out, it never would have been corrected. 2. On one section of the gutter and caps that they did, they incorrectly installed the caps such that rain water was allowed to creep back under the shingles, and resulted in an interior leak several months later in my family room. I called a roofer to repair it, and he explained what had happened; the roofer even interfaced with Dixon about what had caused the problem, but Dixon made no effort to reimburse us for any of the additional cost of the roofer work (which was significant). 3. Either the exterior painters or the gutter installers they subcontracted did a great deal of damage to our bushes and sidewalk. They damaged two expensive Japanese maples (broke branches off) and they cracked the edge of our fieldstone sidewalk in several places by incorrectly placing their ladders. They also took it upon themselves to cut branches off of several Bradford pear trees in our side yard, without asking us in advance. We pointed this out to them in writing, but none of these problems was addressed or responded to. The bottom line is that, although they come out and give a seemingly very professional quote (with testimonials, insurance, guarantees etc), their labor is performed by subcontractors who aren't very careful. The Dixon guy who did the quote and supervised the work was no longer with the company when we addressed the above problems. My sidewalk and Japanese maples were never repaired or compensated for.

The rotting problem that we had in the soffit was not an easy fix and we wanted Hardiplank, but they didn’t make Hardiplank that was going to match what we had done before. Dixon Painting worked the problem and did it, and they did it right. It took about a week to figure out what they were going to do, but I appreciate them and don't care about the time issue since they did it right. They came out on time. They solved the problem and they charged what they said they were going to charge. The guy who came out called constantly to let us know what was going on, and he was out there to make sure the job was done right. They did a great job.
Description of Work: Dixon Painting painted our decks. We had a soffit leaking problem and they replaced all the wood that had rotted out and put it all back together with Hardiplank.

The workers from Dixon Painting Inc Company came on time and finished the job quickly without any mess. They exactly did what I wanted. First time I had used them I was thrilled with their service. They had to replace a lot of rotted wood around the roof. They seemed a little pricey but they did excellent work. The second time they came in to do the trim they suggested that I got my windows replaced. They gave me an estimate that was ridiculously high. They were trying to get into home services business then and so they were insistent in replacing my windows. I didn't use them for windows. .I would use them again in the future for painting work if required.
Description of Work: I used Dixon Painting Inc Company about five years ago. We used them twice. First, they painted the exterior of my house. They also painted the trim inside the house.

THIS MATTER HAS BEEN RESOLVED; SEE UPDATES AT BOTTOM. ORIGINAL REVIEW STANDS. Angie's List referred me to Dixon Painting, Inc. to have my deck stained. In retrospect I would have have been much better off in terms of time and trouble to have done this job myself. Poised and professional Dixon staff were quick to respond to my telephoned request for a quote, their Field Manager made a prompt assay of my deck and made a fair calculation based on square feet of deck and linear feet of rail and fascia. In a few short days it was power washed by an adept Dickson employee and as soon as weather permitted a team was dispatched to do the staining. Until this point my experience was overwhelmingly positive; from this point onward it was a disaster. When the staining job was complete the team helped themselves to the hose I availed them of for cleanup. After some time and hearing an inordinate amount of water being used they sheepishly came to the door to inform me that the water spigot on the house was broken and would not turn off. I'm no plumber but I've been using that spigot every day of this growing season and the four prior without any faults, but now it was gushing rivulets into my lawn and the last person to turn it on - a Dixon employee - could not turn it off. Step #5 of Dixon's White Glove Guarantee is an "expert clean-up," which based on my experience entails leaving the customer to call a plumber while they go to their next job. I tried to escalate to the main office which should have been open according to their published hours and got a machine. I also tried the mobile number of the Field Manager and had to leave a message. With no response and the floodwaters rising (so to speak) I called the emergency plumber recommended by my home warranty on my own. UPDATE: At length I heard back from a genuinely apologetic Field Manager whose proposed solution was to send the same team back to take care of the problem. I informed him that I had already made arrangements and that I was through with those guys. He offered guidance on temporary repairs I could perform so their plumber could come on Monday, but my commitment to the appointment I made while Dickson was incommunicado would stand. To the Field Manager's credit he had a "we'll-bite-the-bullet" attitude about it and said that the damage was his company's responsibility and that I could reach him personally to let him know how the repairs went. I look forward to his making good on their mess. Dickson's price was good and the quality of their work was good; the low marks I've given are due to the fact that I've got to spend the rest of my Saturday dealing with the fallout of their damage. FINAL UPDATE: Owner called 2 days later to refund cost of painting.

The finished product on our 60 year old house is good, not excellent. The workers were courteous and clean and followed instructions while working quietly. Unfortunately, we had to request many makeovers to keep a good overall finish to their job and call for a supervisor at one point to go over each detail one by one. A professional painting company would have avoided this type of complaint. One issue of importance to us is that Dixon Painting employs undocumented workers. Company management indicated the workers to have a special asylum visa and work permit. We check with the consulates of Chile and El Salvador and were informed that it is not possible as the persons working for Dixon Painting are from Central America, currently not included in the USA asylum program. On work ethic and performance they are good but the undocumented worker issue does not sit well with us.
Description of Work: Preparing and painting all interior and exterior surfaces of our house. This included car port and fence. Quotation, warranty and pre-sale response was excellent.

Response from Dixon Painting Inc
Dixon Painting has been providing excellent service to it’s Angie’s List customers since 2005 when we earned our first Super Service Award. Since then, we continue to provide quality workmanship and outstanding customer service earning us a total of eight awards, the most recent in 2010. Our company does the best it can to fully meet and exceed customer satisfaction. We are keenly aware that we will likely be reviewed by our Angie’s List customers and therefore try very hard to accommodate all of our clients and perspective customers needs.
Initial contact for estimate was professional and courteous and was assured that there would be someone that spoke English available the day of the job. The person that dropped off the painter had very good English but then he left and failed to explain the details of dry wall repair needed and never returned. Had to call the office to get the matter addressed. Clean-up of the area at the end wasn't the best but the paint job was good.

Found Dixon on Angie's list and called for an estimate. They scheduled someone to come out within a day or two. The guy arrived promptly and was extremely polite and efficient. I was unsure about the additional cost of painting one room so he itemized the estimate per room (they probably do this anyway, but it was nice) which made my decision easy. The total estimate was about half of what my friends had guessed that the job would cost. I immediately asked him to schedule the painters for the next available day that they could come, which was early the following week. He gave me his card with his office and cell number. I was surprised when I didn't get a call the day before the painters came, which I thought I was promised, but the painters arrived promptly and were just as polite and efficient. The painters asked if I wanted the stair railing and trim painted in addition to the walls around it. I explained that it was not part of my estimate and that I only had that amount (plus the generous tip I planned to pay, but I didn't tell them that). When almost finished, the painters said that they had extra ceiling paint that would work perfectly on the stair railing and trim and that they would do that for no extra charge. I was delighted. The results were outstanding. I've since moved and will absolutely call Dixon to paint my new home as soon as I'm settled back after being away for the holidays. I wouldn't call anybody else.
Description of Work: Repaired minor ceiling drywall water damage (approx 2 x 3 inch area). Repainted entire ceiling, very high walls leading up staircase from entryway to second floor, 3 small wall areas upstairs (laundry area), and a medium-sized bathroom.

Thes company did me a dis-service and I was highly upset because the manager stated that Richard's estimate was a lot lower than what the job entailed. I stated that was not my fault and if they have people of that caliber working for them they would not last.
Description of Work: Came out to give me an estimate for painting my den and kitchen and patch a small hole in my den ceiling. I informed the guy that I didn't have the colors for the rooms on hand but I will call and provide the colors. I called back and gave the colors for both rooms. Two crew members came out on the service date and started painting. They painted the den and kitchen ceilings and patched the den ceiling. I noticed that they did not have the paint colors that I had provided so I asked about that. I then received a call from the guy that gave me the estimate and he stated that he have under estimated the cost for the work and would have to increase the price. I then ask the workers where was the paint colors for the rooms and they stated that they were only instructed to paint the ceilings only. I said that was not the agreement. The lead worker call Richard ( the guy that gave me the estimate) and he stated that they were only suppose to do the ceilings. I told him that was not what I related to him; I emphatically told Richard that why would I call him and provide colors for both rooms if I only wanted to have the ceilings painted. The lead worker told me that this was not the first time that Richard have under estimated work to be done. I told them that they were to stop and have the company manager call me. The resolution had to be resolved by the manager and he ask me what I thought the completed work was worth. I paid him less than what the original estimate was. I even had to state that if this was not resolved I would file a claim in court. Bad Bad Bad experience; would never recommend them.

I needed a hallway, bathroom, fireplace and ceiling painted inside. They spackled where needed, covered floors and baseboards and cleaned up well. You cannot tell where they spackled. Outside all trim & painted walls (house is mostly brick) in carport, front porch, doors, facia boards and peak were pressure cleaned, scraped and painted. There is also a large outbuilding and shed in the back that were truly a mess! The Dixon crew worked very hard to scrape and spackle and paint these buildings. Happily, they look better than ever. These folks are the best and clean up after themselves. Anything I felt was not perfect they would fix immediately without question. As the crew leader said, they will not leave until you are completely happy. I would use them again and recommend them highly.

The experience was very good and the company went to great length to make sure that every promise and request was fulfilled, even framing some vent openings on my gable roof, which added a very nice detail to the appearance of the house. They did a very high quality job of painting the house and I would hire them again. Their painters were clearly very hard working and very skilled at painting. The price was very fair and the attention to detail excellent. I highly recommend this company.

Based on Angieslist I invited Dixon Painting to quote the Exterior Paint job for my ~4,000 square foot (interior) Italian Provençal house. Out of all the sales people Erick had the best pitch and explained in detail everything that Dixon planned on doing to the house including work and how they planned on doing it. Initially Dixon was ~$1,900 more then another equally rated Angieslist painting company and when I informed Erick that he most likely was going to lose the business just due to his cost he came down ~$1,200 on his quoted price (to be fair he had quoted more wood work). I was pretty close to pulling the trigger with Erick but after reading through Angieslist I found that the write-ups on the competing company just seemed better written and more informative. Additionally the competing company had a reference in my own neighborhood which helped sway me. If I had to critique something it would be that I was somewhat disturbed by the price difference for the painting quote ~$1,200, had I just taken Dixon at face value instead of a competitive quotes I would of been burned pretty bad.
Description of Work: This was a quote for a complete exterior paint job which included lots of rotten wood (21 board on the rear of the house and 4 rotted sills) for a ~4,000 square house (interior size) with hard coat stucco on three sides.

Great. Wanted to paint the ceiling with just a hint of the color of the walls. They went to the paint store three times to get the color just right. Very fast workers and very clean. Paint job looks great. We had other rooms in our house painted this year by a Jason Sewell and the difference was amazing! Dixon took care of all the holes and dings in the walls (had to point out some to Jason's crew several times). Dixon also covered the walls completely (had to do my own touch ups in my other rooms as the painters didn't complete cover the old paint. I've been looking for a great painting company and I've finally found them!
Description of Work: Painted two rooms and the ceilings in those rooms along with trim.

Alberto Calvo arrived on Monday, December 28th for the estimate. He arrived on time for the appointment and walked through all the work that would be performed. He explained to us that there would be a crew of four to six guys and the work would take four to five days. He also said that most of the crew members spoke Spanish, but that the team leader spoke English and would be the one communicating with us. Before Alberto left, he gave us a written estimate of $4,670.00, which included a 10% Angie’s list discount. Alberto was down to earth and friendly. Alberto called on Monday, January 4th to follow up and see if we were still interested in getting the work done. We explained that we were getting some other remodeling done and wanted to wait to get the painting done last. At this point, we were still waiting to hear dates for other work we were getting done. Alberto called again a couple of weeks later for a second follow-up call. I explained to him that we were still interested in the work, but we had received another estimate that was lower. I asked if he would be willing to give us a price closer to the lower estimate. Alberto said he would be willing to lower the price to $4,300.00. I accepted the new price and we set up a start date for the work of Tuesday, February 16th. Note: I packed up loose, small items my house before the painting started, such as books, etc. Alberto told us this was not needed, but I think it helped the work go faster. The first day of work made me very nervous about what I had signed up for. Three guys arrived for the work and they arrived almost an hour late. Alberto told me a couple days before that they would be a few minutes late because they had to stop at the paint store before they arrived at the house. I’m not so sure this was the case; they actually asked me where the nearest paint store was to my house. I had to get a phone book to find the nearest location. I was surprised because my expectation was that they would have obtained this information before arriving at the work site. Additionally, I had to show them a copy of the estimate so that they would know what work they were going to be doing in the house. I had already picked out two different colors in advance. In order for me to decide on colors in particular rooms, one of the crew members put samples on my foyer wall, dripping paint on my newly installed laminate floor in the process. The team leader spoke English, as promised, but he was hard to understand. I was not confident that he understood what colors I wanted in the house, and in general the work that was going to be done before I left for work that morning. I called Alberto that morning to make sure that the work we had agreed on back in December would actually be done. He apologized and explained that the team leader did not have a chance to examine the paperwork before he arrived at the house. He assured me that he and the team leader were on the same page in regards to the work. Before I left for work that first day, I asked that the entire house be painted the same color, except for the master bathroom. They got this right for the most part. The color I’d asked to be used only in the master bathroom was also mistakenly used in the master bedroom. To be fair, I did not tell Alberto about this since I was fairly satisfied with the color and it wasn’t a big enough issue to have them repaint an entire room. This is just an illustration of mistakes that can happen if people cannot communicate with each other clearly. I really wish I had asked for someone to come out with the samples in advance of the first day of work, or purchased them myself in advance. Other (minor) issues: 1. Some of my window blinds do not function as they should anymore due to missing pieces and tangled strings. They are cheap blinds and we were planning on replacing them anyway, but we would have appreciated the team leader telling us about it. 2. Each day we came home, we saw that sodas and bottled waters had been taken. Not a huge deal, but we would have appreciated the team leader asking first before the guys helped themselves. 3. Alberto was bad about returning phone calls made to his cell phone. Most of the time, I had to call the office number to ask them to get Alberto to call me. Also, Alberto was not the best about returning email messages, even if I specifically asked for a reply in the email. The beginning was extremely rocky, but the final results were excellent. My house looks great, so much better than before! On the last day, I was able to be there for a final walkthrough with the team leader. The guys took care of moving all furniture and appliances and, for the most part, put everything back the way it was. They covered furniture with plastic draping while they worked. They left the nail holes in the wall for my wall hangings and even offered to hang a piece of art I had not hung yet. They cleaned all floors and cleaned any paint spills and drips from furniture and flooring. It looked like they even cleaned my bathtubs. They had a special industrial vacuum that they used to clean all the dust that had accumulated underneath and behind furniture. The crew was hard-working and efficient. The guys started on Tuesday, Feb. 16th and were done by late afternoon on Thursday, Feb. 18th. This was faster than expected and we were vey pleased with the shorter than expected time. Bottom line: If you want a high level of professionalism and polish, this may not be the company for you. If you’re more concerned about high quality work, definitely do not hesitate to hire Dixon.
