Representative came out & got on roof to look for damage....he explained (in easy-to-understand language) what needed to be done, gave me a written price quote & advised me that the office would call to set up a service date. He was very professional & pleasant. I received a call & date was set for repairs.....repairs were done without any problems. When I got my bill it matched the quote exactly.

They took 3 weeks to get out and work on my house. They gave me an estimate which was to include 3 sheets of decking. It ended up taking 43 sheets of decking instead at $48 per sheet. The cost ended up being $1595.00 more than they originally said because of the decking. They said there was extensive damage up there. They never told me about this until after the job was completed. The supervisor told two different stories. One to me and a different story to State Farm Insurance. His stories were conflicting and so I wrote the owner the whole story of what happend. About a week later I got a call from them and they asked about me making payments. I had sent them a list of my income and expenses. I am very disappointed with the additional cost of the job. Subnote: I called Home Depot and Lowes to find out how much it cost for one sheet of decking. They said it was only $11.97. They also said roofers usually get a better discount than that.
Description of Work: They put on a new roof on my house. My insurance company was to cover the cost of this job.

This homeowner’s entire account of the job is full of untrue statements, to put it nicely. She accepted our proposal on 12/29/09, the job was started on 1/12/10, that is 10 working days not three weeks. When we started removing the roof we realized that most of the plywood had delaminated and was falling apart, you could not tell walking on the roof and you couldn’t see it from underneath. That is why ALL roofing companies give a per sheet price to replace plywood if needed. The homeowner was informed as soon as we realized the plywood had to be replaced and she signed a change order at that time. We told her we would explain why the plywood had to be replaced to her insurance company but they decided not to pay for it because it was not damaged from the storm but simply because it was OLD (see age of house in owners’ review). She signed a contract for $48 per sheet (that price is not just for the cost of the plywood but ALSO for the labor to take out the old and put in the new). When she explained her situation and the fact that her insurance company would not pay for the extra wood, we discounted her price $10 per sheet AND agreed to take payments of $25 per month. All WE did was try to do this homeowner a good job and repair her roof properly. It is not OUR fault her plywood had deteriorated so badly. We delivered a quality job in a timely manner and helped her out all we could with the price of the additional work. I understand that this homeowner is upset about the extra expense but this review is completely UNFAIR.

Everything went well. They responded very quickly, and the installation was completed in one day. There was an issue regarding debris in the attic due to ridge vents installed. They came out with no questions asked and cleaned up my attics. Very good impression so far. I have confidence that they will warranty their work including the look of my new roof. Thanks!

Unfortunately, debris does fall into the attic when most roofs are replaced. Usually it is a very minor issue but sometimes (like when installing ridge vents) the mess can be a little worse. If necessary, we will assist in placing tarps in the attic or cleaning up the mess. As always, 100% customer satisfaction is our main objective.

I got quotes from several companies. Just getting the quote together went a long way towards my picking ARS. The guy walked all over the roof, peeked up in the attic crawlspace, spent a decent amount of time at the house. Some folks didn't even go up on the roof, they just measured the dimensions from the ground (low pitch, very simple roof). Blew me away. the job itself went very well. They delivered a dumpster the night before, & the crew showed up about 7:30-7:45am. They came in a van, which appeared to have three guys in it. They opened the side door & 5 more hopped out. Plus they had tons of tools & equipment. Honestly, it was like seeing circus clowns with that many people and tools in one van. A neighbor who saw it made the same comment. They always have a career in Ringling Brothers if this falls thru. They got started immediately covering the porch/deck & plants and tearing off the old roof. After they were done, there was about a 2 hr delay in getting the shingles, some water & ice, & the felt paper. Was fine with me, since the sun was coming out and it gave the few small damp spots on the decking a chance to dry with the sun & the wind. I would have been happy with another hour or two. I have not been up on the roof myself yet to inspect the boots, ridge vents and get a closer look at the job, but from the yard it looks like a very good job, and my neighbor agreed, thought they did an impressive one. When I stand in the yard from various angles, the shingles seemed to be straight and lined up perfectly every other line. Hard to tell on the boots until I'm up there. I'll update this once I've been up for an inspection if I have any comments to add. They cleaned up very well also. They rolled some metallic thing around to pick up nails. I haven't gone over the yard with a fine-toothed comb, but it appears they got everything. My one complaint with the pick-up job is that threw their cigarette butts in the street in front of the house and didn't bother picking those up. I did pick the GAF Slate color, and I'm disappointed in that choice. I wanted black, but my wife wanted something lighter, so I caved and got the slate. It's much lighter than the small samples, so if you select it, ask them for a full shingle. Slate seems better suited to brick houses, whereas black goes with about anything. Oh well, nothing we can do about that now. I figured the 'gotchas' would be on replacing decking. The guy who have gave me the quote said most appeared OK to him from walking around on it and he didn't think there'd be that much to be replaced. He did point me to one area while in the attic that he said definitely would have to be replaced. So I took a day off work to watch the crew to watch, make sure they did what they were supposed to do, see if they'd try to replace any that didn't need it. Depending on how long it's been since a deck has been replaced & how bad the current one is, decking can add some serious costs to any roofing job. And there was no BS. They replaced exactly what I would have replaced -- pieces that were still very wet from a previous rain and appeared to be rotting. I asked about a couple of pieces that had small water stains on them, but they said they appeared to be solid and were fine, only stained & not worth replacing.

ARS came highly recommended from a trusted friend, so it seemed to be a no-brainer. Riktor arrived to do the estimate 30 minutes early -- we thought that he was just eager to gain our business. Based on his sales pitch and the recommendation, we signed up for a new roof and to have a skylight installed. Loren came to cut the hole for the skylight and he was nothing but competent, pleasant and professional. Cut the hole to the specs of the skylight we had selected, covered the hole in anticipation of the roofing crew coming the following Monday to strip the roof, install the skylight and lay the shingles. All good until we followed up regarding the skylight to find that no one at ARS had bothered to order it. Roofers were due on Monday, so the roofers came and did their thing, pouring old shingles and debris into our exercise room via the hole in the roof. A big heaping bowl of Not Good. Now, having said that, they did clean up after it was explained that they really needed to. And the roofing job was very well done. They did damage the gutter guards, but we're assured that they will be repaired. So...roof on, no skylight. Now it's up to US to chase ARS down to confirm that the skylight is indeed ordered and to schedule a time to install. Finally, the skylight is confirmed ordered and now it's time to schedule installation. I call Kevin, the owner of ARS, to tell him of our predicament. He is unimpressed and unimpressive. No "I'm sorry that we didn't order the skylight as promised." No "I apologize for the inconvenience." Just "Let me put you through to scheduling..." TWO WEEKS later, crew shows up to install the skylight, but after the installation, it's clear that there's a stiff breeze coming through around the skylight. It appears that the skylight they ordered was not the one they originally had spec'd, and now the skylight is too small for the hole that Loren had prepared. So now we have to chase Riktor down -- again -- to try to schedule Loren to come to the house and fill/trim out the skylight to stop the breeze. A week later, Riktor shows up to see what is needed, and while he's at it, he performs the "final inspection" of the roof. I point out the gaps around the skylight and the damage to the gutters. Another week passes before Loren arrives to trim out and insulate the skylight. Once again, he is nothing but pleasant and competent. That leaves the gutter guards to be repaired. I chase Riktor (who doesn't seem to enjoy returning phone calls) for another week before we agree on a Thursday morning for "his gutter guy" to arrive and repair the gutter guards. Wednesday afternoon I call to confirm the appointment for Thursday and I'm told that the gutter guy has already made the repairs -- without anyone there to point out where the exact problems are. At this point it's clear that there is NO ONE at ARS who has a clue about what how to deal with customers -- it's obviously business at their convenience and screw the customer. I'm over it, so I pay the bill in full and good riddance. Two weeks later, I get a bill for LATE CHARGES to the tune of $840. Samantha at the office agrees that the bill is paid in full and that the invoice was generated automatically. And she says that if I get another late charge invoice to just call her and she'd take care of it. Summary: Loren is terrific. Riktor is a typical sales guy who loves to sell but hates to be responsible. Kevin seems to be so removed from the daily operations that any customer call is a nuisance to him. Samantha is helpful, but wouldn't it be nice if she took the initiative to ASSURE that I didn't receive a second late charge invoice, rather than expecting me to do her quality control? ARS's roofing crew is good. Based on my experience, they have absolutely no regard for their customer's time. I DO NOT recommend this company.

This job did not go as smoothly as we would have hoped but it wasn’t the total disaster that this member describes either. The only real problem occurred when our salesman failed to order the skylight because he assumed it was a stock item. It was in fact a custom order skylight, which takes 7-10 days to get. By the time we figured that out the hole had been cut and the roof was being removed. That left us no option but to proceed and “dry-in” the area until we received the skylight. I think it is important to explain some things here: 1. According to the homeowner’s own words “ARS’ roofing crew is good” and “the roofing job was well done” 2. The invoice sent out with a late charge was for the carpentry work needed to install the skylight, which was billed separately. 3. The skylight ordered was the right size but for some reason did not fit the hole exactly so we had to install additional trim inside, which we gladly did at our expense. 4. We addressed all of the owner’s issues and corrected any problem or concerns he brought to our attention. 5. On March 12, 2010, I personally spoke with Mr. Callahan and it was concluded that everything had been resolved and he would refer ARS for roofing (just maybe not for skylights), which is a much more reasonable review. From the first phone call to set up an appointment for an estimate, through acceptance of quote, through scheduling (weekly updates as to start date), through the roofing and clean-up, through bill paying and follow-up, everyone was courteous, polite, and professional. The cleanup of nails on the ground and in gutters was very thorough. It has been several months now and no problems with the roof. My neighbors used many other roofers in the same time frame and several have had problems (not us). While I hope not to need another roof for a couple of decades, I would definitely use Atlanta Roofing the next time.

Since the Atlanta floods in September of this year our phone has been ringing off the hook. Every person we have is going 100 miles an hour trying to meet the needs of as many people as possible. We return ALL phone calls as quickly as we can but not always immediately as this member expects. We recently sent him an email to the address he provided and he claims he never received it but we have the confirmation that it was sent when we said. Scheduled an appointment for a quote. Left work early to come home to meet Andy. Andy had already come and gone before I got home and said I could call him with questions... which I did. I was disappointed that I did not get to speak with him in person and get up on the roof with him to ask some questions. The quote was in line (+/- $200) with other quotes, but I liked that these guys only hand nail. I also liked that they double boot all pipes and that they lay ice and water shield (stormguard) along all protrusions and transitions. They got great reviews on Angies list so I went with them. I was told to expect them between 7-9am on the day of the job. They showed up at 6:30am and went right to work. At one point I saw that they were getting ready to start putting the new shingles on, but they had not lined the transition between the new roof and the roof of my addition with stormguard. I asked about it because I thought the quote specifically stated that they would put the stormguard along all transitions. They said they would do it, not for me to worry. I went inside and called the office and asked about it - I was told that I needed to call my salesperson. I called my salesperson and left a message asking whether or not I misunderstood the quote. I never received a call back, but when I went back on the roof the guys had lined the transition and all roof edges with the stormguard. They asked if I was happy, and I said "sure." I "think" someone from the office (maybe the salesperson) called and told them to do what I was asking... but nobody called to talk to me about it. They did great work. The roof looks great and it appears that they handled all the transitions very well. I am exceptionally pleased with the quality of the work. It took a few extra days to get the dumpster collected, and there were some nails left around my house (most notably in the driveway) but I called the Foreman and he sent someone out to clean it all up. A few days after the job I got a change order in the mailbox and everything looked right. A few days after that I got an invoice in the mail that included the items from the change order AND a $100 for stormguard. When David came out for the final inspection I asked him about it. His initial response was that stormguard was included in the quote, so he called the office to have it removed from the quote. The office told him that "the owner requested stormguard along all of the edges, so the charge was added per owner request." I explained that I did not want to pay for something that I didn't know that I requested. I explained that I asked about it, and called about it but that nobody called me back to discuss it. I would have been happy with an explanation that it was not in the quote and not necessary... but I did not get that explanation until David was on site with me doing the final inspection. David asked me to call Kevin King, the owner to discuss it. I called and left a message, but Kevin called David back rather than calling me. David explained the situation and Kevin agreed to remove the charge. It seemed that Kevin was not very happy about it, but I do not know because he would not talk to me directly. Ultimately, I paid what I expected, they cleaned everything up well, and they did great work. I was a bit disappointed with the communiation issues and overall I felt more like a hassle than a valued customer. However, if all I have to do is put up with some c*** in exchange for good work at a good price with a good warranty then I won't complain too much. If you are comfortable speaking up for yourself, being proactive and asking questions then these guys are great. If you want a very nice customer service experience you might think about another company.

They did a fantastic job, start to finish. They were very conscience about their potential mess. They did put a cloth over my bushes to protect them and were very professional throughout the whole project. They were done in a day and left a nice, clean area afterwards. The price for the job they did was competitive. Their response time was great and they were always punctual; considering they were not local. They did take longer with the chimney cap. They had to come back a few times to make sure they got the right fit. We have recently called them back out because something is happening to our kitchen ceiling. It remains to be seen if we will continue to use them depending on what they are going to do about our ceiling.

Description of Work: Contacted this company the end of April for an appointment on the 18th of May to evaluate the damage to my roof from the hail storm. The specialist showed up to evaluate the roof but did not have the appropriate size ladder. He stated he would be back later in the week to perform the inspection. I have not heard from him since that date. I placed a call to his cell phone last week and he has never returned my phone call. We sincerely apologize for the delay in getting this member her estimate. We had to wait for satellite measurements to come in. This fairly standard roofing job became a drawn out affair (for a couple of reasons), but ended well. A portion of the job was paid for by an insurance claim based on hail damage. Three companies were contacted and gave us presentations. Two were comparably priced and had very good reviews. The Atlanta Roofing Specialist representative appeared to do a more thorough "top side" inspection to prepare his quote than the others. The roofing crew did a very good job of removal & installation. They did some damage to a gutter and an adjustment was given on the bill. A bit of facia board was damaged during the installation, but this was due to hidden wood rot and not their responsibility. Additional chimney siding damage occurred during installation, but this was also due to previous water caused rot. The company replaced these pieces for a small add-on fee. The final inspection revealed that some of the shingles were sub-standard. Atlanta Roofing had the GAF representative confirm his finding and GAF agreed to replace the shingles & underlayment. This process took a few weeks and weather delays slowed the re-install, but it was done and the final appearance looks very good. The add-on siding replacement wasn't done completely so Atlanta Roofing had their crew return and finish the task. The roofing crew did a fairly good job of clean-up, but some pieces of material and nails have been found about the property. Damage to one hedge seemed a bit excessive (due to material being dropped on it and/or a ladder resting against it ?). There were a couple of errors on the company invoices, but were corrected without difficulty after being discussed. At the completion of the first installation, we would have given all "A" ratings, but after the final work was done, we have lowered this a bit. However, in fairness to Atlanta Roofing, I have a lot of respect for how well they handled all of the issues that arose. They acted responsibly when they worked with GAF to replace poor product, they were accommodating about invoice adjustments, the several supervisors involved with this job were all very helpful, and they were very responsive to any issues we had. We would hire them again.
Description of Work: Removed existing shingles and power vent. Installed new underlayment, shingles, ridge vents, and covered existing metal vent pipes with durable black plastic sleeves to match shingle color. They also replaced a few water damaged sheets of plywood and spray painted part of the chimney cap that had surface rust. Also, replaced a few pieces of water damaged siding on chimney at roof line as an add-on to original job quote.

First, I think it is important to note that the shingle defect was not visible from the ground and OUR supervisor recognized the problem and advised the manufacturer immediately. Second, I just wanted to say that we always try our best to protect the house and landscaping from damage. However, inevitably sometimes damage does occur. If we do damage anything during a job we will gladly repair or replace it.

Chris inspected the chimney cap and told us that though there was some surface rust, the metal was in great condition and we should get many more years out of it. How happy we were to hear that after another company had warned us it was rusting through and needed to be replaced.
Description of Work: Chimney cap inspection and estimate.

The job went very well. The contractor obtained a permit from the city of Decatur (which is a pain and takes time, I've had to do it myself for another contractor and was glad not to this time). The crew arrived early on a cold, cold day. They completed the work in four days. There was a little mix-up about bringing a cart for debris (because of small driveway) instead of a dumpster, which meant that we had old roofing and shingles filling our side yard and deck overnight, but they cleaned up the front before they left for the day and had the rest cleaned up the following day. The crew was courteous and friendly and meticulous in their final clean-up. The contractor followed through on their commitment, to a tee. When I called prior to signing the contract to ask about something the estimator had overlooked, they agreed to include for no additional charge because the estimator had missed it. The estimator was very thorough with materials needed, so that there were no surprises. The check I wrote was exactly what the estimate had been. They didn't ask me to pay anything until the work was complete and together we did a final inspection, by appointment. I had just one thing I wanted them to touch-up and they had one of the crew come promptly the following week to take care of it. I definitely recommend this contractor to others. I felt I was dealt with fairly, honestly, and with integrity.
Description of Work: Removed old roof and replaced with new - GAF ELK architectural shingle, 30-year warranty. Included replacing some of the roof decking due to removal of fan vent and installation of ridge vent. Replaced a few pieces of finish wood. Got two estimates, other was 10% higher and the estimator felt very salesy to me so put me off. ARS's estimator (Kevin) was very professional, very straight-forward, told me what he could do, couldn't do, etc., without putting down other roofers. When I followed up with questions he was very responsive. Gentleman who conducted final inspection was also very professional and courteous, took pictures of the one little thing that I was concerned about and ensured it was addressed quickly.

They had to get a whole batch of shingles but they left us the leftover shingles in case we ever needed them. They did a good job, and were pleasant to work with. We felt they were honest and did not do more than needed to be done. We would use them again for future work.
Description of Work: They repaired a bullet hole in the roof of our home.

They showed up on time. They got the job done on time. They kept everything cleaned up after themselves. They came back out and straightened out our weathervane for us after doing the work.
Description of Work: I hired Atlanta Roofing Specialists to completely remove my old roof and replace it with a new one.

They did an outstanding job. They preformed exactly as advertised. They were timely and professional and did a great job cleaning up. They also discovered one part of the roof that needed repair and they added that to their job.
Description of Work: They installed some ridge vents on top of our roof.

The roof looks fantastic and feels solid. Our second floor windows look out onto the roof. A crew of three experienced and nice men did the work. Though the man who gave us the estimate said it was a one-day job, they came on three days (it started to rain during the afternoon of day two), but since the work was outside it was no inconvenience to me (and it was no extra cost). We had difficulty getting on their schedule. Though we got the estimate in mid-June and faxed in our acceptance that evening, it was 5 weeks or more before the work was completed. They were covered up with other jobs. Also, we chose ARS partly because of glowing reports of how well they cleaned up the work site (after a memorably awful experience with another company years ago). In my opinion, the clean-up earned an A-/B+. We've found pieces of tar and particle board as well as 20-30 nails which could be expected but the cigarette butts were not. I feel like our new roof is of far higher quality than our old one. The crew's comfort with the materials and process (they apply flame with a big torch on your roof to adhere the surface!) was reassuring. We would consider using them again.
Description of Work: They repaired and resurfaced a flat porch roof. Underneath the old surface of our roof was particle board with no drip edge. Water had seeped around the edge and caused the particle board to rot and disintegrate. We discovered this when my husband put his foot through the roof. ARS replaced the outer 2' of particle board decking with heavy plywood and installed a drip edge. They surfaced the roof with 12-yr, torch down modified bitumen.

Response from Atlanta Roofing Specialist Inc
FIRST, WE WOULD LIKE TO THANK THIS CUSTOMER FOR THEIR BUSINESS. SECOND, WE WANT TO APOLOGIZE FOR TAKING SO LONG TO GET TO THE JOB AND FOR THE FACT THAT THE CLEAN UP WAS NOT SPOTLESS. WE ALWAYS TRY TO MAKE SURE THE JOBSITE IS LEFT AS CLEAN AS POSSIBLE WE WILL GLADLY MAKE A SECOND TRIP IF ANYTHING IS ACCIDENTALLY MISSED. AS FOR THE SCHEDULING DELAYS, WE HAVE BEEN VERY BUSY MOST OF THE YEAR. ARS DOES NOT HIRE NEW INEXPERIENCED CREWS LIKE SOME COMPANIES TO TRY AND KEEP UP, SO SOMETIMES THERE IS A BACKLOG. BUT, I CAN ASSURE YOU QUALITY IS WORTH WAITING FOR.
