First he said there was something wrong with the sewer line and the driveway would need to be dug up, which would have cost a lot of money. After talking to another company, they were able to fix the problem without having to do all that and also save me money.

I had all kinds of problems when they installed the system for about 2 or 3 years. I had to continually make phone calls for repairs. They finally got all the problems worked out and it has been working fine. The people that come for the maintenance since then have been good. However, I would not recommend this company.

I called American Home Sheild to report that my water heater was leaking. An hour after placing my call to AHS; A representative from Rescue Rooter contacted me to schedule an appointment. I was so suprised at how quickly they contacted me. To add to my suprise they told me that they would like to schedule me that very afternoon. They contacted me somewhere around an hour before the plumber arrived to let me know that he was on his way, when he arrived he was so nice and kind. I was shocked to find out that my water heater would need to be replaced, and that there were parts that were not covered through my home warranty. I was quite upset. The technician took his time to explain to me why the code upgrades were so important. Now I have a working water heater that was installed by a someone that made me very comfortable and at ease. Wouldn't you know that one hour after the plumber completed the work a representative from Rescue Rooter was calling me to ask me how everything went while the plumber was out! I have not received this level of customer service in quite some time. I am glad to see that there are still companies out there willing to still recognize that their customers are so valued and important. Now I am just waiting on the City to come and inspect my water heater.

Overall, the experience was fine. There was a mixup on the time that I was told the tech would arrive, but that was not his fault. I had been told he would arrive at 9:00, but he arrived instead at 9:30. When I called to check about it, I was told that they work within a window of time and the scheduler (appt. clerk) in customer service should not have given me an exact time; however he was on his way.The window of time did not surprise me as that is how most service appts are done. He spent time (1-2 hrs) checking everything both inside and out. He was very professional, covered his shoes before entering, and apologized for the mixup. He even gave me a discount on their filter because of the time mixup! I have used them before and will continue to use them.
Description of Work: I have a annual maintenance agreement which cost me $169 a year. Today was my spring checkup. The tech spent considerable time checking everything inside and outside regarding my air conditioner and replacing a dirty air filter.

The Universal rep came by the SAME DAY I called them for an inspection of the system and make a determination of what needed to be done. The very next day the contractors were here on time to replace the entire system, both inside and out. The unit they brought was slightly too large for the designated space. Within two hours they delivered and installed the new unit. There was some cosmetic cleanup required following the installation. That repair date was set and the contractor arrived on schedule and did a beautiful job. You would never know anything had been redone. It looked perfect. A month and a half later everything appears to be working smoothly and effectively, both heat and AC. I couldn't have asked for a smoother installation project.

03/29/13. Terrible customer service. I was assigned ARS Rescue Rooter via my home warranty. There was incompetance and lack of follow through from the first tech to the office manager. I've been dealing with them for a month now. I originally called about a simple tub/shower issue. After 2 visits and 1 no show they still arent even close to resolving the issue. The first tech took was more interested in selling me a water expansion tank than resolving the issue he was there for. He eventually decided he'd have to leave and come back after orderign some parts. He took my receipts and all my paper work that I now know will be needed to actually replace my parts. He promised to return them but surprise they are apparently lost. I've never seen him again and no one knows where my documents are. In addition the first tech lied about ordering the necessary parts. I called the office after not hearing anything for 10 days and was told that the "system" showed my parts would be delivered in a couple of days. Again I called back after not hearing from anyone and they scheduled me for a sunday service call. At the end of my timeframe I get my first call back to tell me that they are sorry but no one will be able to come out. Entire Sunday wasted waiting on them. When the 2nd tech came out 4 days lateer he alleged no knowledge of my issue with parts and said nothing was ordered. He thought maybe he'd just go to Home Depot and pick some things up. Come to find out he looks at my system and says he cant do anythign because of the brand. I called and asked for the manager. The manager, Kathy Brooks, assured me she would take care of it and send me the information I needed to order the parts myself that day before close(can you believe it, I have to order my own plumbing parts??? Or I can go to Home Depot and pick up something comparable). She never sent the info. When I called back to find out why, Im told she is on vacation and maybe she'll be able to help me next week. I asked if anyone else could help but no, all management is on vacation. I've owned 4 homes over the last 20 years and been through service issues in the past but this takes the cake as the worst service I've ever received from a company. Beware.

Response from ARS / Rescue Rooter Atlanta (PL)
(Member name removed) please accept my apologies, I did send you an email immediately after speaking with you. Is it possible that the email got hung up in spam? I will gladly resend, but would much rather relay the information to you via a phone conversation, of course at your convenience. I hope that you recognize that we are aware of the fact that this issue that you are having has gone on for far too long, and should have been taken care of a month ago. The reason that we gave you the option to pick out your own shower valve, is because two handle shower valves are difficult to find, and we did not want to waste more time purchasing something that you would not be happy with. We then also gave you the option of replacing the stems on the Hansgrohe faucet that you currently have, telling you that we aren't sure if this will fix the problem or not. However, your faucet has a life time warranty. You made the decision to try to have the parts replaced by Hansgrohe. It is not our policy that the customer calls for the parts, we would love to handle this for you. It is the policy of Hansgrohe. I will be giving you a call to make sure that the decision that you previously made, is still the decision that you would like to stay with. I will then forward you the information, previously sent on Thursday 03/28/2013. Your experience with our company has lacked the customer service that we pride ourselves on, and I would like to again offer my apologies.

They never showed up for the appointment and I had taken half a day off work to wait for them.
Description of Work: After being solicited by the guy at Home Depot enough times, I agreed to a heating and cooling tune up offer. The job was scheduled for yesterday. I called ARS Universal about 6 days ago and asked to change the appointment to Thursday afternoon. They agreed, and I got another call confirming the Thursday appointment from 2-5. I left work on Thursday and came home and waited, waited, waited. At 5:00 I called to find out what was happening and they said they could not come because the temperature was not high enough to do AC testing. The temperature today was about 43 degrees (it's March). They said they need it to be 65-70 in order to test the AC. They also say someone called at around 10AM this morning to tell me they wouldn't be there. I was in meetings at work all morning and did not get that call. But even so, my opinion is that they had to have known the temperature would be nowhere near the 65 degrees they needed even the day before, or the day they called to confirm the appointment. Weather fluctuates, but there is a big difference between a 43 degree forecast and a 65-70 degree forecast. They asked when I would like to re-schedule and I told them, Never.

I hired Universal HVAC through Home Depot in 2010 to install a new HVAC system for the second floor of our home. We had two systems: one for the first floor and one for the second. We'd had the first floor system replaced by CoolRay in 2006 and loved the Trane system they installed. I had CoolRay do an estimate for the second floor, and it came in rather high. We had delayed having the work done due to the cost. When I saw Universal HVAC at Home Depot, I thought I'd talk to them. I explained that our home was built in 1978 and had a bonus room and office on the ell over the garage. Those two rooms seldom were heated or cooled to an appropriate temperature. It was to the point that we put window units in those rooms to keep them cool in the summer and used space heaters in the winter because the central heating and air upstairs could not do the trick. Universal said they could fix all of that. Their sales guy came out on a Saturday and looked at the existing system, noting it was undersized. I already knew that. I told him to please make sure whatever was installed would be designed to heat and cool ALL of the second floor and to let me know if that was not possible. The sales guy promised that he could design a system so that the temp in our office and bonus room would be within four degrees of the thermostat temp. The thermostat was located in the bedroom area of the second floor He put together an estimate for a dual fuel system. It runs like a heat pump in the winter and kicks in with gas heating if it gets too cold. It's a "regular" high efficiency air conditioner in the summer. Sounded like a plan. The day the install crew arrived I got my first sign things weren't right. The two techs, one of whom was smoking, took a look at the set up. The lead tech said, "there's no way this system will heat or cool the whole second floor." I told him that if that was the case, they should pack up and go home. He proceeded to continue to work. I then called the company and asked to speak to the sales rep. He said the techs didn't know anything about the load calculations and I shouldn't listen to them. I accepted what the sales guy had said. After all, Universal had a two year comfort guarantee...if we're not comfortable, they will come back and make it right. So the system was installed, and the guys packed up. On the way out the door, the tech tells me they installed the wrong thermostat and I'll have to have someone come out with the right one. So I have to call Universal and arrange to get the correct thermostat installed. It takes a few days, but someone takes care of that. Meanwhile, it's July, and the office and bonus room are not staying cool. I kept a detailed spreadsheet where I recorded the temp in my office and the temp on the thermostat. It was seldom less than 8 degrees warmer in my office. If it was 80 at the thermostat, it was 88 or 90 in my office. I called and complained, and they sent a crew over. The crew rummages around in the attic and says my feeder line to the bonus and office is too small, so they install a larger line. I wait a week and still there's no change in how the system is running. Call again. Guy comes out and checks things out and says there's something wrong with the install and sends another crew out. They say now a larger return line is needed. This back and forth goes on for the rest of the summer. They say they have it beat, but by now it's fall and the temps have cooled, so I can't test the system. I wait until the NEXT summer to check it. Problem is still there, but now I've burned through one year of the two year comfort guarantee. I make a few more phone calls to Universal. The techs they send out seem knowledgeable and admit the system that was installed really can't address the problem I have. The last guy who comes out notes that what's really needed is a larger return air line to pull the humid air out of the office and bonus space. He tells me they can install the line but they will have to tear out the ceiling to do it. He says he can't authorize Universal to replace the ceiling, so I go ahead and accept the cost to replace the ceiling if they will do the work. He sends his team out, and there are two guys here most of a day removing ceiling in my office to install a new return air line. They also are supposed to install two different vent diffusers in the bonus room. Of course, they forget those and have to go back to the office to get them. In the end, it's all done, and it FINALLY works. I had a drywall guy coming by to do work elsewhere, and I paid him $200 extra to replace and finish the ceiling in my office where the crew had done the work. So now we're finally comfortable. And then the thermostat starts acting up...going blank every now and then until you tap it and it starts working. Finally, it dies entirely and the system won't run. We're now almost though the two year warranty period. I call and get a tech out. Turns out the original install on the thermostat was incorrect, and there's a short in the line. He runs new wire and installs a new thermostat. This is all completed a month or two before the full labor warranty expires. No now after two years of wrangling, I finally have a system that works. I learned my lesson and should have just gone with CoolRay. I like Trane products, and I feel the system I have will last, but I would have rather paid more the first time and gotten the right system installed. Universal calls on average once a quarter to try to get me to sing up for their maintenance plan. I've decided to give THAT business to CoolRay. So although Universal finally made things right in the end, it was at tremendous personal effort on my part to get it to happen. I think the problem lies in having a sales guy who really didn't know what he was doing and level 1 techs who are a step above incompetent. The better techs who handled my calls after I repeatedly complained really knew their stuff. That's who they need out there at the start. If you've had a good experience with Universal, count yourself lucky. After this experience, I determined I'd never let a Home Depot contractor in my home again. Home Depot had promised to "make it right" if anything went wrong. Did they? Nope. I got one call from them asking how things were, and when I said I was having problems, they said they'd call back, but they never did.
Description of Work: Replace existing second floor HVAC system with new system. New system would be a Trane system designed to comfortably heat and cool our entire second floor, which due to bonus space overt the garage was larger than the first floor. We had issues with the existing system, which I explained to Universal. I noted that I wanted to be comfortable and didn't want a cheap install price...I wanted it done right.

Couldn't have been better!!
Description of Work: I had the entire unit replaced inside and out...This required new ducts through out which were very complicated due to the house being older....Techs crawled into nearly impossible places and installed a dual zoned variable speed Rheem system. We then decided to add a whole house dehumidifier unit that again was an installation challenge but finished in a first class manner. Probably could have found it a bit cheaper somewhere else but I wanted quality and peace of mind which I got. Had a smooth pleasant experience.

Called them out when AC failed, they were responsive to the first call being on site in 4 hours. They replaced the condensor and stated that the motor also needed replacing (that is why the condensor had failed) and that they had nil in stock and would order one and will return to replace. After 3 chase up phone calls over 4 weeks (at no stage did they contact us) we where finally informed on my third phone call that they had not been able to locate a motor for my type of AC but they are still looking and will call us back in a few days. Within 15 minutes on the internet I found the motor myself and received it in two days and replaced it myself. I am still waiting on that returned phone call....

We got an AC unit from home depot and unfortunately the company they use for installation is Universal. They were on time to start the work. The technicians stop like every 10 to 15 min to take a smoking brake and cell phone call brake so i guess the installation time was longer than it should. They finished installing the ac on the top floor and change the climate control on the main floor all was well, AC working fine we were satisfied with the service up to then. The following day our home was hot like never before. We called them and they send some one 2 days later. That person said we were responsable for the AC not working and we must get an electrician to look at the house cuz somenthing is wrong with the house electrical. Not happy with this we called Universal again since they promise all this satisfaction and warranties etc, etc. And no lock ,we ask to speak to a supervisor they say the supervisor will call us back and never did.We went back to home depot and there was nothing they cud do.More than a week after the ac was badly installed and after being told that all was our fault we said we are going to have to get a lawyer and that is when they finally send a competent technician to our home .He told us that the installation was not done well and that cables were crossed. If you by an AC unit at Home depot please ask them what company will be doing the installation .I'm sure you will find one with better reputation than this one. Also I think they don't care about customer satisfaction cuz they get easy business from home depot.

We got back from an unscheduled trip last week and on Saturday the heat pump stopped cooling. The coil froze, we thawed it, turned it back on, and it froze again. We called a number of contractors trying to find someone to come out on Saturday as it was quite hot. All offered to schedule us for Monday or Tuesday - not a big help. Then, Universal called me back, even though I hadn't scheduled a time with them because I was still looking for someone to come on Saturday, told me they could get someone out that day. I asked about a coupon (I had been calling contractors who advertised in a coupon book, which unfortunately I had left in the car) for a free diagnosis, which I honestly thought was theirs. The gentleman said it wasn't, but he would honor the competitor coupon for me and get someone out to help. I found the coupons in the car and indeed it was a competitors, not Universal's - I had called so many I got confused. Shortly thereafter, Sina arrived at my house, after calling to give me a 20 minute heads up he was on the way. He was able to quickly diagnose the need for freon, added it to the system, and had my vents putting out 55 degree air in no time! They definitely saved our weekend, to say the least. Their freon was a little high at $61/lb., but as they didn't charge for the service call on a Saturday no less, they get an A for price as well. Thank you Sina, and thank you Universal, for a great job and quick service when we really needed it. We'll definitely call you again!
Description of Work: Diagnosed A/C system as low on Freon, added two pounds of R-410 to system.
