My daughter rented an apartment while going to Emory for her masters - she wouldn't even be there 24 months. They knew it, we agreed to 10 months at the time be installed the alarm. She ended up staying a total of 20-22 months. We paid on time every month via auto pay, i.e., we were great customers. There was never even a remote chance she'd stay longer than 22 months, maybe not even 10 months. Therefore, we agreed to the terms of 10 months and they received special permission via a supervisor phone call while we stood in her new apartment living room. She used it longer than we agreed to. However, when we closed the account and moved her, they first tried to strong arm her into using it in her new location. Which was impossible --- Rwanda. Then they refused to close it stating it was a 3 year contract. I've tried so times to resolve with the local Atlanta office it's not even funny. I spoke with their national office who was beyond RUDE. No one can even offer me a supervisors name or number. Smells like a boiler room/scam company with ZERO INTEGRITY. Today, my daughter got a notice from a credit agency for $485. I told them I'd report this to the STATE of GA and to social media. Their reply was "I understand". Frankly sounds like too bad to me. GO TO ANOTHER ALARM COMPANY IN THE ATLANTA AREA. There are a million. Don't set yourself up for SCAMERS.
Description of Work: Is not honoring agreement for less than 12 months. Is not giving us a supervisor to speak with. See below. I never write bad press - this is an exception. VERY UNETHICAL AND DISHONEST. USE SOMEONE ELSE.

Description of Work: We had to get ADT put in our new house because we had signed a contract. When we transferred it over we signed a new contract. Overall ADT was fine. There were two incidents that the alarm didn't go off and they didn't call. It was just a false alarm, but it could have been an intruder. Fast forward to two weeks ago when I called to confirm the end of our contract. We were told it ended in January of this year. I said January 2015 and they said yes. So, we signed up with Ackerman and I called to cancel. I was told it was January 2016 and they had no record of me calling. They have A LOT of complaints on BBB about this issue. It is very hard to leave ADT!

The door alarm was installed improperly, but ADT would not correct it. The system was not properly installed into an electric source and failed constantly. We had multiple alarms with no call from ADT. Once, the panic button was pushed during an emergency with no call from ADT. We called customer service several times for assistance and were treated rudely by under trained employees. The promises they made were never met. When we tried to cancel the contract we were told that we needed to pay an additional $600 in addition to the $417 install fee in order to exit the agreement, despite the lack of service.

Our equipment was originally installed by Brinks around 2000 and we originally had monitoring through them. ADT took over the Brinks business around 3 years ago so we have had ADT monitoring service since then. We've been very happy with the monitoring service - every time the alarm has gone off (due to our accidental triggering of the alarm), we always get a call to make sure everything is okay. The billing is done annually and I believe we are getting a price break for being such a long time customer.

We called ADT to get an alarm for our house. We were offered a rebate for our equipment and installation. We found out you have to jump through hoops to get it. Like have a phonebooks worth of paperwork! Then it takes 15 - 18 weeks to get rebate. Well we are at over 2 years with them because we are stuck in a 33 month contract. We have never received this so called rebate. When we call about it we get the run around. Like call this person then that person says no call this person then that person tells you to call the first person back. So therefore you never get the answers you are looking for. Then in order to cancel its 75% of the contract that you have to pay even though they are the one not living up to their promises. Then this year they went up on the monitoring fee with very little notice. I thought the point of a contract is so they can't do that, but apparently they can. Their customer service department does not seem to know what is going on ever. They will also give you the runaround. Needless to say as soon as our contract is up I will NEVER use ADT again. They are liars and trick you into a contract and do not live up to their promises!

This morning, I was awakened by a loud clicking sound from the alarm in the stairwell. When I determined the source of the noise, I went to the keypad and found it was unresponsive to entry of the code number. I then called the ADT 800 number. A service rep sent me to the basement in search of the electrical plug for the beige system box. Though I had no problem finding the box, I could not find an electrical plug in for it. He then sent me out to the garage to look for a circuit breaker, telling me that the alarm would not go off when I went out the kitchen door since the keypad was malfunctioning. While I was flipping circuit breaker switches, the phone cut off and the alarm began sounding loudly, waking up the rest of the family. My son came downstairs with the alarm blaring, in the dark, as I had cut off all electricity to the house while following the ADT rep's directions. I called back to ADT on my cell phone and went through a series of directions from a second rep who didn't know anything about the first call. Eventually I managed to turn everything off. The second rep said it was a malfunction of the keypad but did not offer to walk through any diagnostic on the phone or any remote service. She only offered to send out a technician for $150 for the first 30 minutes and something like $35 for each additional 15 minutes. (I may be slightly off on those numbers since I did not have a pad and pen handy while running around the house talking with her on the cell phone.) I explained that we have been customers for 18 years, that service has deteriorated ever since ADT took over, that we have had several disruptive malfunctions in the past year, and that I had been thinking for the past year about going to a competitor. I did not get the impression that they care at all. After this experience I went to Angie's List and started checking ratings of home security companies. This one is hardly a star. After 18 years (15 with Brinks/Broadview and 3 with ADT), I am leaving this conglomerate that obviously does not give a toot about my business.
Description of Work: We initiated service with Brinks in 1995. Over time that became Broadview Security, which was acquired in 2010 by ADT, a subsidiary of Tyco. We had little if any problems with the system before ADT took over. During the past year we have had repeated problems with system malfunctions - false alarms, malfunctions of the keypad, etc. They always want to charge at least $150 for a brief service call, even if it is just to change a battery. Perhaps most disconcerting was last weekend when we went out of town. When we returned, I discovered that the basement door had been left ajar earlier when we were moving things out of it several days earlier. Though the ADT alarm had been turned on whenever there was no one at home, including the time we were away, the ADT alarm never reported that door being open. Anyone could have come in through the basement door and gained access to the house and the alarm would not have sounded until they went upstairs to the second floor.

This was a horrible experience. My husband and I had been trying to reach a sales person for 6 months to discuss installing camera's as an addition to our security system. The sales person sold us on the ADT Gold service promising great same day next day service and "Gold" customer service. This story is far to long to type. Long and short. We waited 6 weeks for the install and were promised two installers to handle the job. Morning of install one person showed up. After seven long hours. Not one camera was installed. He changed one deadbolt with a special code system however, it was not installed correctly an we can no longer use the door until it is fixed. He replaced one key pad with a new key pad and changed our passcode. NO camera's were installed and he left when I was gone to pick up a child and left house open and unlocked. We are left in a worse situation than in the am and have no camera's did I mention that detail? The sales rep had no idea when they would be able to get back out. I am done with ADT period. The service sucks even the "gold" service.

The salesperson took a deposit check and my amex card for future billing and said he would cash the check when we had an agreed contract. he put the deposit on my amex card instead and held the check and still has it . The contract with ADT has an indemnity clause that basically says if it is their fault my system fails and my insurance co pays me for my losses then my insurance sues ADT under the subrogation clause I have with my insurance co I indemnify ADT for all loss, cost or expense to defend against my insurance co and I pays whatever legal fees they incur and if they loose and have to pay my insurance co then I would have to pay them whatever the insurance co collects from ADT in addition they are not recommending any equipment ant are not responsible for any existing equipment so they are not responsible for anything they don't install, they own anything they do install including the wire in the walls( questionable legal basis for this) After several months of waiting i called the sales person was gone , he left the company his manager called back understood my issues and has never called back as he said he would, AMEX got my money back but not my check. regardless of how good their service is ,no one in their right mind could sign a contact with those terms and conditions You cannot call what they did fraud legally because there was no contract and no damages . I was told everything to induce me to enter into a contract on their terms which they are able to do because under the contract I cannot rely upon anything anyone says other than what is written in the contract It is unbelievable ! read the contract carefully and don't ask them what is says because they can tell you anything and you can't rely upon it ask your attorney or read the contact yourself. If ADT's product is as good as their legal work to protect them the product is very good there is certainly no law against a company with 7,000,000 customers trying to protect itself with the best legal advice available but few of us have similar resources ADT appears to have 2 listings with AL so my review applies to ADT in whatever location served me the reviewer is the person who actually dealt with ADT The AL member at the same location did not deal with ADT
Description of Work: i met the sales person at a trade show and requested a quote as i am doing significant remodeling he obliged with a quote but could not sign a contract He did set up an install date on the assumption that if the tech installed it then i would have to agree to it

They were not totally honest with me, they just wanted to get in the house to get the job started. Once they got in, they didn't really tell me what they were going to do. Come to find out that the actual security system would not protect my house. They then started up selling me on things I may or may not have needed. I tried to call the representative that I spoke to before and I could not get a hold of him. I had to deal with someone else. Once they started putting in the system they were putting holes all over my walls and in my window. The box they installed was not what I wanted and I didn't understand how it worked. I called them the next day to remove the system and refund all my money except $105.00. I don't think this is fair because of the damage they caused to my house. The person they sent out was not professional at all. His car was missing hubcaps and I didn't feel safe. I have to have someone come and fix all of there mistakes.

I can tell you that our alarm system doesn't work too well. We have a special breaker on it now because it got hit during a lightning storm. In my personal opinion the alarm system should have had one on there to begin with. Our motion detectors also do not work on the thing either. We are most likely going to look toward getting rid of the system ADT installed in our home. It really doesn't meet our needs that well and I'm not that sure how to fix the thing so it properly works. I think we just want a whole new system to start over with and I have to say I really have not called ADT to do any kind of repairs on the thing. We just prefer Ackerman because that is who we have used in the past and feel pretty confident in their abilities. As far as monitoring and stuff goes, ADT may be fine. I have not used them. I can tell you they would not be my first choice of companies though for buying an alarm.

ADT is professional. They are on time with things and they do send us mailings and reminders and things like that. We are going to be switching to another company however for alarm service monitoring because they are just too expensive. I really think they could come down a bit in price. They probably charge what the typical large company is asking these days but we plan to shop around and find a better rate.

We were existing ADT customers from our previous home so we had a "credit" towards upgrades to this alarm system if we resigned a contract with ADT (our previous contract had expired). The "credit" was quickly eaten up by "required" upgrades of the circuit board and keypad. We stuck with ADT anyway just because we hadn't had any problems with our previous alarm in the seven years we lived there. We were frustrated when they were unable to put the monitored smoke/carbon alarms in the location we wanted on the 2nd floor, but the installation technician came up with an 'OK' alternative for both. Overall ADT is a big alarm company, so sometimes we feel like we could probably have gotten a better deal elsewhere, but if we are paying for monitoring we wanted a big company that we know would actually respond if an alarm was triggered. In the seven years of monitoring in our old home they were always very responsive, so in the end, that is why we stuck with them.
Description of Work: Upgraded existing home alarm system by adding monitored smoke & carbon monoxide detectors, replaced broken sensors & keypad, upgraded main circuit board.
