Very bad and they are still working on it

They were unprofessional in just about every aspect of the process. They repeatedly lost paperwork, lost our order specifics and lost our contract information. The supervisor was rude to us and treated us with contempt every single time we called on him. He told us we had to accept the way it was - we politely reminded him the name of the company was and quot;Southland CUSTOM Homesand quot;. They installed the wrong carpet and tried to charge us for their mistake! The actual framing of the house was excellent, but they once again repeatedly ordered the wrong materials, or were short of the proper materials and had to order more. Typically the construction crews were frustrated because Southland didn't treat them very well and apparently was not paying them very well for what they did. We had paid for a port-a-potty and it took Southland weeks to get it out there for the crews. We complained because the crews were being forced to use the area around the site (we have ten acres on which we built). This simply is not acceptable and it is disrespectful to the crews. After the work was completed, we had to contact the corporate office because the drywall and painting work was absolutely atrocious. The drywall crews had flat out ruined the work by over-sanding and the paint job was ridiculous. After corporate came and saw what we had, they brought a different crew down to attempt to correct the shabby work. They recovered it to some extent, but it is still not on par with the amount we paid for the house. Our back deck, which we paid extra to extend the size, was installed on 4x4s which meets code, but they notched the 4x4s to install the deck. It resulted in the 4x4s being weakened and warping badly. The deck is secure, so they said, but it looks like my grandsons put it together. We have had a crew come out and shore it up, and they assured us that it was stable, but in my opinion, there is a difference between and quot;stableand quot; and and quot;looks greatand quot;. Overall, the framing was fantastic and the framing crew gets kudos from us. The electrician was superb! The plumber was somewhat preoccupied and did a fair job. The rest of the work was really just kind of thrown together. The supervisor was a total fail. From what I have heard recently they cleaned house by firing all of the management crew. No details on that.

Southland did a good job. They have a warranty on everything on the house they built. I have utilized that and they always get someone out right away and take care of the issue. They live up to their word and are honest and trustworthy.
