Sod Sales Direct

I've used them for 3 jobs. His price was in line with others that I had received. His work is excellent. His workers are very, very good. He supervises and gets involved. I would definitely recommend them. They clean up. He is very upfront and a very easy person to work with. He is excellent. They are punctual. His workers are very neat. They are like worker bees and they work so hard and constantly. They don't stop and talk. He brought in a book of sample for the brick patio and it didn't phase him at all like it did with another contractor.

Sod Sales Direct does great work. Full stop. Phil and his team are professionals. I got several bids and decided on Sod Sales Direct because of Phil's ideas,the time he spent with my wife and I and the clear sense of pride in his work. He was not the cheapest company but his was pricing was fair. Once we decided on Phil, the work was completely quickly. Phil kept me updated on when to expect the sod and then his team and he also sent me pictures during the work since I was out of town. I am very happy with the job and I get many compliments from my neighbors. We did have one issue with the sprinkler system but Phil was very customer service oriented and addressed the issue to my satisfaction. I would recommend Phil and his company if you want to have a spectacular lawn. I already have given out Phil's name and number to several of my neighbors.

Prior to Phil and his crew working their magic, my backyard was unusable. The grading was so poor that when it rained all the water rushed toward my house leaving water and mud that was being drug throughout my house. Phil put in a drainage system that took all the water to the street in the front of the house. He also put in a beautiful slate patio and soded around the remaining area. Phil was in constant contact with me throughout the whole process. He would call before his men came to work to ask if it was a good day and they often worked into the dark hours. They had some leftover mulch from the backyard, so they weeded my beds in the front and side of my house and laid down the mulch. The clean up was great. I just ordered patio furniture and can't want to use my back yard. Phil is coming back in a few weeks to discuss what needs to be done in the front yard.

I am very pleased with their work. They did a great job!

With this being the week before Christmas, Phil (the company owner) and crew worked very hard starting on Monday and finishing on Saturday. That included having the job dumpster removed by 12/23. They removed all old wood, leveled and rebuilt walls for our vegetable garden and terraced flower beds. They removed all our flagstone and cleaned it before putting it back in place. The timbers around the flagstone patio were replaced along with timber walls around adjoining flower beds and replacement of the steps both leading to the cement patio and to the stairs to the deck above. Francisco (the crew leader) is an excellent craftsman. He was very precise in every detail of laying out and building the walls. He pays very close attention to detail and both he and Phil were attentive to our suggestions and requests and where possible made those adjustments. Phil also built a trellis at our request to replace the old one. He closely followed our specifications and it is a major improvement to what was in place before.

We had a serious water erosion issue. Phil came out and suggested some measures we could take. He listened to our concerns, e.g. not wanting to lose a couple of our trees. He addressed this concern and suggested putting in a dry creek bed. Through further discussion, he recommended adding a pondless waterfall. The final work looks fantastic! And, our pondless waterfall gives us the sound of a waterfall, without the maintenance of a pond. We absolutely love the work Phil and his guys did for us.

Phil was professional, very thoughtful, and a great listener to our needs, concerns, and overall objectives throughout the bidding, planning, and construction process. The project began immediately upon signing the contract and was completed in a timely manner with his team often working beyond regular hours (with our permission) and on weekends. Their suggestions along the way were insightful and showed the level of their experience and ability to see beyond the immediate need. As this was our first major landscaping project, Phil and his team showed exemplary patience and always maintained a positive attitude. At times, we were undecided on which direction to take on a certain aspect of the project (ex= a walkway from the basement door to the stairs leading to the newly leveled backyard) and Phil and his team offered several recommendations on the spot all of which incorporated existing materials and/or tied into the work already completed. And regardless of the scope and any additional changes made outside of the contract, Phil was extremely fair in his price. At completion of the project, we experienced a small issue with the sprinkler system and Phil and his team came immediately the next day to make the repair. We would highly recommend Phil P****** and Sod Sales Direct for your next landscaping project.

After a slow start because of incessant rain, the job progressed quickly. The workers, Francisco especially, were excellent. The scope of the job was huge , but Phil was able to adjust to changes I made without any problems. After the job was finished, I had some issues with the Sprinkler system, which he promptly addressed . I have another 2000 sqft of yard to be done and plan to use Sod Sales Direct to finish the yard. I love the new yard...it looks 1000% better than what I had when we started.

Phil and his team did an excellent job replacing the sod in my front yard and adding some additional drainage to help prevent water from flooding a section of our yard that comes from our neighbors property. The work was done in a prompt and timely manner. I've had multiple neighbors compliment us on the new sod and asked for a referral. I will definitely call Phil again if I have additional grass or landscaping needs.

The two workers were extremely neat; picked all of the debris and handled an unforeseen complication very well.

We are extremely pleased with all the work that Phil and his crew have performed for us. We were so pleased with the initial work that we actually increased his contract to incorporate more landscaping and irrigation. He worked well with me when I wanted to delete some items and add others in the middle of the project and maintain the same budget. His crew is the most professional, hardworking crew I have ever seen. Phil was always quick to respond and very upfront and honest with me. I will be using him on my next project.

They were not good. I told him that it wasn't good sod and he got angry at me, he wasn't very nice about it. I didn't like the way he responded, it was bad and it was not professional. He was just a middleman. He has his own company but he just answered the phone and took the order. He didn't even have a credit card system so he used his supplier's credit card system. When I paid, I thought I was paying to him but then it was somebody else's company name.

We started working with Phil and Sod Sales to get an estimate on the wall. The quote was very competitive. After reviewing bids and reviews we decided to sign with Sod Sales. We originally had picked a stone that we were happy with and later decided to upgrade ($100 for the whole project). Right before the work started there was an issue with their stone supplier and we had to change our stone choices as the supplier had screwed up the pricing. This process was fairly frustrating as we didn't want to settle on a stone we didn't like and we got close to cancelling the contract. However, that night Phil was at our house with samples of block that was available and the same price. We ended up being very happy with the choice. The next day, a dumpster arrived and his crew (2 guys who were incredibly nice and easy to work with) got to work removing the wall. Day 2 the blocks and supplies were dropped off and they got to work. His crew worked quickly and built most of the wall in 4 days. They cleaned up every night and the work site always looked organized. As they got towards the end of the project, they spent nearly a full day grading the soil near the wall, replanting some bushes and a Japanese maple that was moved to get the bobcat and stone around the yard (pretty tight space with about 3 feet between the deck and wall), pressure washing (the wall, deck, patio, and anything else that got dirty in the process) and cleaning up old wood and concrete from a different project.

We requested a quote via their answering message, for sod and a simple landscaping project and they failed to respond.

We had a little trouble at first connecting, but when we were able to work out a date for him to come over he was very professional, knowledgeable and friendly. We decided not to do the project. It was much more expensive than we had anticipated. Mr. Polak was willing to work with us and did two quotes for us when we changed our mind. If we decide to do the project, we will definitely call Mr. Polak.

Phil was responsive to my phone call and meet with me the next day. We agreed on the work and he wrote an estimate. His crew got started right away. We changed a couple of things on the design but he didn't have any problem - just made changes to the estimate. The job looks fantastic! The neighbors are always stopping by to say how nice the improvements. This was a big job.I enjoyed working with Phil. I called him Uncle Phil because he seemed like an "Uncle Type" to me. I would recommend him to anyone and will call him again for my next job.

The result is great. We were impressed with the workers' skill and diligence.

im not gonna lie .. I LOVE my new yard.. but i wasn't thrilled with the process.

Spoke to Phil Polak who said he would be by mid week to look at the yard and call back to discuss and provide quote. NEVER HEARD FROM HIM. Called twice after the week went by and left messages; never returned calls.

Work was very professionally done. Contractor listened very patiently to my ongoing comments and questions, and was very good at taking my vision and making it work. Contractor and his crew were a pleasure to deal with.

The job went very well. The crew was very responsive and professional. The original contract went over some due to additions I made as well as some underestimations on the amount of sod, etc. made by the contractor. The price for the extra sod, etc. was discounted. I absolutely love my new backyard - which was a complete mess before. The front island and sprinklers are also great. I would definitly recommend them for other jobs.

I called Phil at SSD and requested a quote for landscaping the backyard. His was one of three quotes for the property and with each quote I followed the same process of walking them around the backyard, giving them specific and simple landmarks of where I wanted the new sod installed, etc... Two of the quotes were within two hundred square feet of each other in total footage. Phil's was less, 1000 square feet less at 4100 square feet. I questioned him on this and he ASSURED me that his quote was accurate, that he had measured it off and was correct. I asked him again to confirm the areas that he would sod, he did so. Agreeing with the same area that was measured by the other two contractors but also suggesting that maybe they had made mistakes. Okay fine, specifically based on his Angie's list reviews, I contracted him for the work. Low and behold, on the second day that his team was laying the sod, Phil pulls up in my driveway. He has a long look on his face and is apologizing as soon as he rolls down the window. "I'm sorry, I don't know what happened. The measurements were wrong. But don't worry, we'll make it right. Well bring out more sod, well just charge you cost...." Really? You were the most expensive of my three bids by over five-hundred dollars, YOU made the mistake, and yet you are still going to charge me for the sod that you should have included in your original quote. But I bit my tongue, deciding that i'd rather pay him a bit extra right then and get the job the done. Maybe it was just a one time thing... The next day, I came from work a bit early and what do I see but Phil's team QUICKLY pulling sod from the back of the yard to cover up all the bare earth next to the house, in other words, snitching from the back and sides to cover the other bare areas, maybe hoping I wouldn't notice, maybe hoping that they would be gone by the time I got home. But they wern't and I saw them. That was over three months ago. Since then I have listened to Phil make excuse after excuse for his lack of follow up. While over the months, he has promised me on several occasions that he would bring out more sod to correct the issue, he has steadfastly failed to deliver. I called him as recently as July 20, again telling him that I WOULD PAY for his mistake and to please just get it done, three days later and still no response (again...) In summation, Phil either made an egregious mistake which he has proven completely unable to resolve, OR he underbid the square footage in order to land the contract. I can't say which happened with certainty, but the I believe that facts speak volumes. The new sod has also sprouted some really lovely weeds that I did not have in the yard prior to his efforts. My front yard is next on the list for new landscaping, but Phil sure isn't. He even came to my house to do the bid after attending church with his wife. Looks sure can be deceiving.... :(

Owner led the workers and supervised the job well. Crew worked hard thorough the property. Work was finished on time. The owner also told me I need to watering the fescue sod every early morning as well as the seeding back yard and not watering for two days if it rains. I follow his instruction and my frond yard is green with healthy fescue. I was planing to plant flowers by my self around the trees in the front yard. He was very kind to give me some suggestion in choosing flowers. I really appreciate his suggestion and instructions. Now I am waiting for the grass to grow in my back yard. I can't wait to see all green for my back yard!

Called Phil during the week for an estimate. He came out that weekend, we talked options and then he sent me a detailed estimate the next week. Once the contract was signed, Phil went right to work! If not for a sod shortage, the work - sod & irrigation - would have been complete in 2 days. Phil's crew did an excellent job and he was a pleasure to work with.

We were very satisfied with the speed of work performed, the quality of work performed, and the overall price. We will definitely use Phil again in the future and we strongly recommend him to others!
