They started off well, sodding in a rainy season. But, once it was done and paid, the grass died in certain areas. Getting them back was a pain and it took six weeks to get replacement fescue. By then it was too hot for fescue, but they patch repaired and that died too. The grading was not done well, too high against the house and the one low spot in the back just became a puddle. Once side of the house ended up with rain water coming up into the house and I had to pay $2000 to get a french drain installed.

We contacted a few different providers from Angie's list to redesign our entire backyard space which is about 1500 sq feet. The space has a slope and had to be leveled with a supporting retaining wall. We received several written estimates and Phil's estimate was the most thorough and price competitive. He gave us some excellent ideas based on his extensive experience. He and his team were very professional and very easy to work with. He prepared diagrams/layout design of the new space so that we could submit them for our HOA approval. He worked with us very patiently through this process. Our backyard is totally transformed and we love our new outdoor space. The materials used and the quality of the work is excellent. We are so glad we chose him to redesign our outdoor living space. We could not have asked for a better provider. You are the best, Phil. THANK YOU SO MUCH!

I called Phil for an initial quote on the retaining wall at the top of my driveway and while he was there asked about a quote on the retaining wall in the back yard. We agreed on the quote for both walls and Phil told me that it would take a couple of days to repair. He and his crew were out within a week.The wall at the top of the driveway was replaced along with the stone pavers. The wall in the backyard had to be torn down on one half, a drainage pipe installed and new dirt added. Phil and his crew did an exceptional job. They were punctual, hard working, and kept me informed throughout the process. They also cleaned up and you couldn't tell they had been there. I think the retaining walls look better than when they were initially installed by another company. Thanks again to Phil and his crew!

I got 5 loads of free dirt and Phil help me to leveling my back yard. Place sod at front yard and seeding at back yard. I am very Satisfied at his work.

We hired Phil to do some hardscaping for us. Expand a parking area by removing some trees, grading, graveling and building some retaining walls. He and his crew were professional, detailed oriented and were able to get on the job quickly. And talk about keeping a clean job site. When they finished the driveway and work area were looking REAL GOOD. We'll call Phil in the future for any other hardscaping needs. Thanks Phil!

We hired Phil to grade our yard, install sprinkler system, install more than 5000 sq ft of zoysia grass, install mulch, shrubs, and trees. He was professional, within budget, and stuck to the timelines. Our yard looks great and our neighbors complemented as well. He also had the crew clean the job site on a regular basis during the 1 week working period.

Everything went great. They showed up on time removed the existing step interiors (red pavers from home depot) and replaced with flagstone. They cemented these in and I expect they will last another 20 years. We had the red pavers installed 10 years ago and they had gotten water erosion underneath. These guys made sure to stable the underneath and cement the flagstone in. I am very pleased with the results. They hauled off all the debris and left the yard and surroundings as they found it.

Overall I really enjoyed working with Phil. His crew was amazing and did a very nice job. This was a very messy project and their clean up afterwards was really good which I appreciated. The work itself actually exceeded my expectation in how it would all look completed. I would recommend them to friends and would call them again for future work. The reason I gave 4 stars for overall and price is because the cost increased during the project, and the project took much longer than was forecasted. Phil would send me an email each day with the amended cost as they made adjustments. While I appreciate being kept up to speed I would have preferred a more accurate quote to begin with as the increases I am referring to were not due to a change in my request for the project. I felt at times their was a little friction between us due to the changing costs, which I really regretted because I enjoyed Phil as a person and really would like to be able to work with him in the future. Again, the work they did for us was very well done, with a lot if care and attention to detail. I feel that what we paid in the end for the project was a fair price, I don't think I was over charged, I just was uncomfortable with the increases to the original quote.

Overall quality and price were very good so overall grade is an A. Very hard working team and good attention to detail. Had several issues that were minor (did not start project on promised date, showed up later than promised on first day, forgot pressure washer one day which extended length of project, left trailer in front of my house one night which is against HOA regulations), but price and quality were good and that is all that matters at the end of the day.

They gave me the highest quote out of about 6. They were not totally friendly when they came out so I would definitely not use them. They were not friendly and they seemed rushed. His quote for sod was just ridiculous. His combined total for the entire job was $10,415. My lowest quote was $4,600 so it was a huge difference for the same project. I would never use them for anything. I felt rushed with some questions that I asked. One question I asked, I kind of new because of the type of business I do and I don't think he knew the answer and I thought he felt a little agitated by the question. I felt he was rushed and didn't care. He was going to give the quote and be gone and that was it. His response wasn't bad but he showed up on the wrong day but at the right time. I told him and he said he had it written down. He made me feel like I had it wrong. I wouldn't recommend him to anyone ever.

I always hated my cracked up, super narrow, very steep driveway and spent years having to juggle my two vehicles (work and personal) to fit one-in-front-of the other. Twice, house guests had their windows smashed out from having to park in the street. I cursed the driveway everyday because (it being so narrow) I'd have to usually step in mud/dirt just to get into my car. But because of a large tree root besides the driveway and the steep slope, I figured I was just doomed to live with it. Phil came to look at a sod project, and suggested a driveway design. After signing up, Phil and I had a misunderstanding about another part of the entire project but were able to work our way through that. I learned through that process how much Phil really does care about his customers and wants them to be happy. We decided to move forward on the driveway but I have to admit -I had a bit of buyers remorse - thinking I really didn't need or want the driveway. Phil put in the driveway and was pleasant to deal with. I will tell you, that driveway Phil put in gave my house tremendous curb appeal. It transformed the way my house looks. I don't have to step in dirt, house guests can park IN my driveway along with me AND my two vehicles! Phil nailed this one dead on. Thanks Phil!

They did a fine job. The delivery guy delivered it to the spot in the yard where we needed the work. He got stuck by accident, but stayed around to get unstuck and did so without damaging the surrounding grass. Would use again and recommend to others.

The project turned out beautifully. The stonework in particular exceeded our expectations, and we finally have a backyard that we can enjoy. My only complaint involves communication. There was some confusion about the scope of the work (which resulted in additional cost, although the owner worked with me to minimize the increase), and I found it difficult to reach the owner at times to discuss project details and obtain work updates. I realize it was peak season, and the owner and his crew were stretched to the limit with multiple concurrent projects. All in all, we're pleased with the outcome.

Phil is very good. He suggested a driveway solution I had never even thought of and am very pleased with the results. I was getting water in my basement because my house sits on a hill. Phill regraded my yard and put in discrete piping so I no longer have the water issue.

This was a massive and costly project to undertake, lasting a full month ,with work occurring 6 days a week, sometimes even in the rain. The crew was hardworking, polite, professional and skilled. Phil Polack, the owner made several visits in the planning stage and was on site daily to direct the work. Although we did not always agree on the planning and some details of the execution of the project, satisfactory solutions were found. Phil worked very hard to understand our wishes and meet them the best way possible. High quality materials were used throughout. The results are outstanding. We are pleased with the work. Neighbors and family have nothing but praise for the improvements. Although we started the project to replace the failing retaining wall, the patios and yard have become unexpected gems as outdoor living spaces for us, both in the daytime and evening. October 23, 2014. Some pavers began to sink below the patio level, one landscape light burned out prematurely (it has only been working about 4 months), and a few patched of sod did not survive. Phil came out at my request and fixed the pavers. He also replaced fixed the landscape light (it turns out to have been a defective LED bulb. He replaced the bulb and even gave me a spare bulb. These bulbs are supposed to last 30,000 hours, many years of regular use. I am told the sod will be replaced in the spring, since this time of year any replacement sod is not likely to get established before the sod goes dormant. I am pleased with the follow up repairs that were required.

It didn't go anywhere. He declined to offer a quote because he was too busy.

We moved into a house that had been neglected for several years. The yard was a mess and the fence was practically falling over. The yard is quite large - nearly an acre - and was full of everything BUT grass. We first had 22 trees removed by another contractor and then set to work finding someone to do all the landscaping. Phil and his crew tore down the old and installed a completely new fence around the property. They also took out all the old scrub brush and other unwanted vegetation before completely grading, leveling and sodding both front and back. They laid down over 7,000 sqft of sod in two days AND installed a full irrigation system. We also asked them to build us a small vegetable garden and plant some roses and other plants for a little color. They were very punctual, friendly, open to suggestions, willing to work with us both on price and design and worked like crazy to get everything done before our deadline. I would use them again and would recommend them to anyone looking for large scale residential landscaping. I know some have complained that they can be difficult to contact - and that is true. They are very busy and only have a crew of 4-5 people working at any one time. They also prefer not to take on multiple jobs - a plus I think! If you have an immediate need they might not be available - but if you can wait - the service they provide is excellent.

We needed help in the shrub areas of both the front and back yards. Both my wife and I know very little about trees, shrubs, and plants. The owner of Sod Sales Direct, Phil P******, helped us to design the areas, recommended trees, shrubs, and plants that would meet our needs - do well in our areas, give us color as much of the year as possible, and give us some variety. He was most helpful in giving us ideas, internet links to check out, and even sent us to a local nursery to see what we liked. He recommended the use of some flagstone stepping stones and the use of some boulders to create a natural area in the front yard, things we would not have thought of on our own. His crew was very professional, on time, and did an excellent job with all of the plantings. Among the items planted were arborvitae, doqwood, coral bark Japanese maple, and serpentine weeping cherry trees; camelias, hydrangeas, gardenias, nandinas, tea olives, mountain laurel, encore azaleas, rhododendrums, hardy lantanas, drift roses, knockout roses, hostas, lenten roses, and autumn ferns. The drip irrigation zone is a big improvement over the spray zone that we had been using in the back yard. Finally, they finished it off by spreading a red oak hardwood mulch everywhere. Altogether, we are very pleased. The landscaped areas look great, all is growing well, and we would definitely recommend Phil and his crew to others.

The driveway and and landscaping work was so outstanding that it has made the entire home look brand new. My neighbors and friends are in awe of the transformation that has given my home absolute curb appeal. The workers are extremely diligent and hard-working, they are professional, they are excellent at what they do-- and I will definitely use this company again in the future. This was the best $16k I've ever spent!!!

I've noticed a trend lately of certain contractors immediately asking you to text them all your details when you call for estimates, presumably because they don't have the time to talk to you right then and there. This really rubs me the wrong way and just screams "unprofessional". I've already made the effort to call and give you my business, the least you can do is take is take 2 minutes to talk to me. Better yet, get an office staffed with people who are hired to take calls. The worst part of all is this person never even responded to me after I texted them. It's a shame, because the whole reason I called is because you appear to do good work. I recommend tweaking your customer service approach a little bit so your good work isn't overshadowed by your lack of attentiveness to potential customers.

My yard looks fantastic. Hired Phil and his crew to grade and sod my backyard. Throughout the whole process, which was interrupted by rain, Phil stayed in communication with us. His staff were some of the hardest working guys I've met. They put in long hours to get the job done. Phil's crew were always on time and did a couple of extra things for us. His pricing was fair for the job he did. I would definitely use him again
