He had good reviews on Angie's list. See that was the problem he totally set up an appointmentt and he said he had gotten behind on other job diuties and he said he was going to be there but he never showed up. I called him and he apologized profusely and I gave him another shot and kind of read him the Ryer Act because that was unprofessional and he never even called to tell me he was going to miss the appointment. I told him I don't mind if he missed the appointment or couldn't make it because that happens sometimes but he didn't have the courtesy to call and he did not do that. So after that he promised to come and showed up on time and did an expensive evaluation.

He knew what he was doing. He understood what I wanted. He gave me a quote which was easy to understand pretty quickly. His price was very competitive. I chose someone else but it was a close competition. I would recommend him to others at least for a quote.

They did an amazing job, and it was quick. They were very professional. They weren’t supposed to be back till Tuesday because it was the Labor Day weekend, but they showed up on the Sunday to get it done before the rain came in. The workers were very nice. I am not sure about the price because my dad handled that. We would use them again in the future if necessary.

I spent $350 for their services. Overall, it was good. You have to make sure that you stay in contact with the guy who came out. He is not good about staying in contact with you. I might use their services again.

Sod Sales Direct - Sod Sales Direct, was prompt, showed up when they said they would, got their work done, and kept everything within the estimate.

My little $1500 project that turned into $7000 .. it was some of the best money spent. I met with Phil Polak on 12-JUL-2011 to review my requirements. This project started as a simple "maintenance" project to weed the flower beds, install new pine straw, and steel edging. But Phil was FULL of great suggestions. For just a few dollars more, Phil suggested MULCH instead of Pine Straw. He was right .. what a difference the MULCH made! Then we turned to the back yard, which was never graded or landscape. Phil suggested a "hill" of Ble Rug junipers to dress the hill surrounding the retaining wall. Phil then suggested adding some Zoysia sod from the side yard into the back yard and up the hill (another good suggestion). We framed everything in with steel edging and a foot of mulch. We then decided to add some color with the Japanese maple and Burgandy Lorapedulums. We added an irrigation (sprinkler system) to keep all the new landscape moist. In just a week, the sod lines are gone, and the the entire landscape (lawn, shrubs, tree) are growing into place and look like they have been there forever ! The existing roses and shrubs look better than ever, now that they have enough water. My existing lawn is even greener, too .. its starting to look like a golf course here :-) The job went well .. Phil, and his team, started on our agreed to time and worked (6) LONG 10+ hour days (in 100+ degree temps) to get the job done. They even came out with a pressure washer to complete the clean-up. When they were done, you couldn't even tell there was work done (other than the OBVIOUS results). Phil also has a good relationship with his suppliers. As we started to run out of mulch, he called his supplier and had more onsite within a few hours (which kept the project on schedule). Phil also made sure to register with "call before you dig", so it was obvious he knew how to plan for this kind of job. About a week later, Phil and his crew, came back to check the aiming and function of the irrigation system. Lots of compliments from the neighbors, and most of all, my fiance, who is a true critic, said, "its better than I could have imagined". And I couln't agree more.

He told me it would take three days to complete, but it took 2 weeks. When they laid the sod, they were supposed to come back and turn on the irrigation system the next day. i called every day, and he kept saying he would be out, but it took a week, so, except for rain, the sod wasn't watered. Some of the sod has come in great, some of it never greened, and patches are dying. One of the irrigation heads is watering the patio furniture and needs to be changed. I have tried to get him to come out here and resolve the problem. He does not return phone calls. The few times he has accidentally picked up, he tells me he will be there either that week or the next, but never shows.. I have been calling him for 2 months to resolve these issues. I have had other companies come out recently for estimates to have the job completed. There was a year warranty given, but a warranty is only as good as the company issuing it.

We are very happy with Phil and his crew. Our yard is now gorgeous! Phil met with us a couple of times to go over our projects and help us come up with the final plan. We really appreciated his honest candor and elegant solutions to some tricky issues we needed addressed. His pricing was very fair, and his crew showed up on time and stayed late for three days straight to get the job done. He was our third contractor that we received pricing from and honestly he was not only the most reasonable of the lot he was the only one we felt cared about the job. The other two just didn't seem to have the time of day for us. We now have a beautiful yard both front and back and a working sprinkler system to keep it alive! The drainage solution that Phil proposed and installed is working very well after the hard rains, and what I love it that it is hardly noticeable and does not take away from the beauty of the yard. Phil will be doing more landscape work for us in the future.

My experience was neither fantastic nor horrible. They were fair and average. I don't think so they did everything what they said they were going to do. They showed up when they said they were going to. They are rate high on Angie's list.

The workmanship overall was good. His correspondence has not been the greatest with a timely follow-up. In general, he has been slow on corresponding back to me. The quality of the sod that he put down is somewhat suspect. I now have crabgrass all over my yard, and I didn't used to have any crabgrass. A nearby nursery told me that if the ground was prepared correctly, I shouldn't have as large of a volume of crabgrass in my yard.

After visiting your web-site, I contacted Sod Sales Direct using their web-site leaving an e-mail on Thursday May 26, 2011 at 4:pm asking that a request that I be contacted to have an estimate for the sod and Installation. Mr. Phil Polak and his accountant Kathy came out on Thursday June 2, 2011 and I showed them my backyard that I wanted to have sodded explaining to them that I was having my wedding reception here on July nd and would like the job completed ASAP. I showed them the property they measured both sides of the backyard and I showed them where to start and stop going around my above ground pool, that the sod would go up against the pool and the filter and salt water system would be sitting atop the sod and showed them that the plug cords went through a 3" pipe that went under my concrete sidewalk that was just put in last month. Mr. Polak at this time said that he would bury the cords under the sod if I went and purchased the 3" pipe (as did my other estimate) I agreed that I would go by Home Depot as get the pipe. Mr. Polack explained to me that his team would remove the old sod and prepare and grade the areas to be sodded and that the team would clean up and take the debris and dispose of it. I sent Mr. Polak an e-mail Thursday June nd @ 2:pm after he and Kathy came out letting him know that "It was a pleasure meeting you and Kathy this afternoon. I would like to make a decision this afternoon as I am having my wedding reception here on July nd and need the work completed ASAP. My other quote will need to order sod and have it delivered and installed on Thursday June 9th. Thursday, June 2 @ 2:pm Mr Polak replied " it was my pleasure meeting you too! How much was the quote / I will try to beat it..." My reply Thursday, June nd @ 4:pm " He quoted $1,200.00 backyard only, we did not discuss front." June rd @ 8:13am Mr. Polak send his quote and it stated " SF of Certified Jamur Zoysia, shade tolerant, comparable to St Augustine cultivars, High density turf along with extensive rhizomes makes Jamur Drought tolerant. note back yard $1100 front yard $899.87 County sales tax 7% Total $1,999.87 Friday June rd @ 9:12am I responded "Congratulations, you got the job. Can you PLEASE get the back yard scheduled and installed by end of week 6/10/11?" I also spoke to him by phone, he seemed to be distracted or was having difficulty hearing me because when I would ask a question he's response did not correspond to the question. He did ask that I leave the signed contract and half of the quoted job. I agreed to leave this in an envelope under my door mat. Mr. Polak called me,reporting that he was at the house and did not see the envelope. I replied apologizing that I had forgotten to leave it out and was about 30 minutes away. He said that he would be going to alpharetta and would stop back by. Well he did not as I discovered on Monday am when I had looked. Mr. Polak sent me this e-mail: Tuesday,June 07, 2001 11:pm kathy' we have a little problem.. you will have 4 pallets delivered in the morning..You never let me know about not doing the front yard until tonight when I saw the contract that My son picked up. We have to work something out with the 4th pallet for the front. My son Jamie and my crew will be there in the morning.. phil My response: Wednesday, June 08, 2001 12:10am When we confirmed by phone, I let you know that we only wanted the backyard done. I’m not sure what you were doing when I called but you were preoccupied with something else, or if you just could not hear me. I would ask you something and sometimes you would answer with an answer that did not go with the question. That being said, we do not want the front yard sodded. It is not ready, as we want to put in a retaining wall and build that lower end way up. This is what I discussed with you day of the quote, then you came up with the concept of sculpting and sodding the top part. I talked this over with Terry at that time and we both decided that we did not want to spend the time or $$$$$$$$ doing that project just yet. I also sent this: Wednesday, June 08, 2001 12:26am Phil, I looked up our communications on my computer, there was an e-mail to you shortly after your estimate came to me stating then I only wanted the back yard done. You were advised twice. Kathy Jamie advised me that his contract did not mention to bury the pool cords, that they would not be doing that work. I sent my mother home and proceeded to do it my self after doing so I sent Mr. Polak this e-mail: Wednesday, June 08, 2011 2:18 PM Phil, I want you to know that I just spent 3 hours digging the trench and placing the pool plug in cords through the 10’ 3” pipe that you said you would do. I now realize that had I not written in on the quote to include the prep work for installing the sod, I would be doing that too! Because YOU failed to put it in the quote. This was a day that my mother came over to help me with some of the preparing for my wedding, I had to send her home. A day that would have helped me out tremendously. Now I am behind schedule and will have to find another time when this work can be done. Sincerely, Kathy When Jamie and his crew finished the job that day he requested the remainder of the payment. I inspected the backyard and hand him an envelope that was addressed to his father. I copied the Quote and wrote "Phil, This check #104 for $488.55 is final payment for our sod instalation. I have reduced ity by $100.00 for my labor digging the trench and installing the pipe for the pool filter and saltwater system. This deduction is because you verbally said you would have your team do it. All apllets of Jamur Zoysia were used for my backyard.

Phil Polak is a super nice guy as well as his crew. They were professional and accommodating. We had our entire front yard redone in new sod which came in very fresh and green. I watched them put the pieces down and it did not fall apart as has been our experience in the past. The crew did a beautiful job curving the new lawn around the many obstacles in our yard. We also had a waterfall installed in our backyard and Phil's price is very reasonable for the very good quality workmanship provided. I gave a grade of B for promptness and responsiveness, which is good compared to a lot of contractors. He seemed to be distracted with a lot of phone calls and other projects going on. Phil is a very busy man but manages to make you feel like you're his number 1 client when he is at the site. He was here for most of the waterfall installation which I felt was important. Beautiful job! The crew did a great cleanup job as well!

I called 3 different highly rated sod companies on Angie's List, and asked them to come to my property and offer a bid. Phil Polak from Sod Sales Direct was not the lowest priced bid, but offered the best advice and value for the money. He and his crew did an outstanding job taking up the existing sod, leveling out my yard, and putting new sod down. He suggested building a wall on the one side of my lot to reduce erosion and flooding to my neighbor (my street is on a hill, where the house to the right of me is half a house higher, and the one to the left of me is a half a house lower). He replaced a partial wall I had there with a much sturdier and attractive decorative concrete wall. He and his crew were here 3 days and saw to every detail. I would highly recommend them.

The experience was excellent from beginning to end.

Mr. Polak will be providing a written estimate of items we discussed for the yard offering a laundry-type list so that we can choose part of the work without having to do all. Of course this will depend upon budgetary constraints. I will update this report as I go forward on this.

This is better than we ever expected it. The yard looks amazing and we cannot wait to enjoy it with friends and family. We had a vision and Phil understood exactly what we wanted and did it to perfection. His estimate was great and we never had any surprise. The estimate was very detailed and there was nothing left in the dark. The communication was great. We will recommend this company to any friends and family without any reservation.

I had not budgeted much for landscaping on this project and I was caught by surprise at the high prices and exotic services that other landscape design firms proposed. My neighbor had just had work done by the company and had an excellent experience, so I asked the owner to meet with me. The big difference with Phil, the owner, versus the other people who bid on this job is that he put himself in my position and listened to me carefully. He gave me what I needed to have and could afford--- and the job turned out beautifully. I got a tremendous value for the money I spent and what's more, he does not abandon his customers, he is there for advice post-install. He has an excellent sense of design, great knowledge of materials, he can come up with an estimate in a hour, and you can see that he treats his team well, as they are polite and helpful to a fault and they work hard. And did I mention that they are fast?? He should call his company "The Wizards of Landscaping." Phil is a good man and a smart business person. Five stars!

In the past year I obtained several quotes for addressing drainage issues and landscaping in my yard. As soon as I spoke with Phil Polak at Sod Sales Direct, I was confident that his price and approach were the best value for addressing my project. Work started exactly when scheduled and was completed as promised with no surprises. Phil Polak and his crew were prompt, professional and knowledgeable. This project was a large undertaking for us, but Phil answered all our questions and ensured we were comfortable with the process and well prepared to maintain our new investment after they left. I could not be more pleased with this company and my experience! I expect to do more business with this company in the future.

Phil was very responsive to my request for an estimate and a subsequent follow up request to further discuss. In both instances he came in the evening after already working all day and spent the necessary time with my husband and I to go over the quote and explain his approach. He was professional timely and genuniely interested in meeting our specific needs and addressing our priorities. The quoted price of $11k was very reasonable for our large project and is less than previous quotes we recieved. We have not yet decided to move forward with the project, but only because we are making personal decisions about the best time to make this large investment in our yard. The price seems right and our interaction with Phil has been positive and honest. We hope to do business with him in the near future.

Great experience- I called Phil Polak for an estimate to install a sod lawn. He was at my home the same afternoon and emailed my estimate that evening. Phil and his team removed a large three, installed an irrigation system, removed the existing lawn, leveled the entire yard and installed Zeon Zoysia sod. Phil had several great suggestions and his team were outstanding. I have had many improvements done to my home over the past 20 years but have never been happier with the work and end results. Phil and his team transformed my yard. You can not go wrong using them for both quality of work and price. I recommend him to friends & neighbors who compliment us on the new yard.

Sod Sales Direct came out and determined why the underground sprinkler system was not working. Not only did they replace the broken sprinkler head that stopped the whole system, but they moved a head that was incorrectly spraying nothing and they adjusted all of the heads, for correct pressure. I finally have a system that is not watering the driveway and wasting water down the drain. I would call them again if our vehicle ran over a head just off the driveway breaking it, or for any other reason.

Called and left a message for an estimate. Called back really quickly. Explained what I needed and where I was located. I was told that I was a little out of their service area but that he had an associate he had been working with for many years that lives near me and has an irrigation business that should be able to help me out. I told them thank you and would be waiting for a call. The gentleman from the other business (Green Spaces Consultants) called me that same day or the the next morning and I have been extremely happy with the service and quality of work. Phil came out right away and gave us a price on the job we wanted done. He also suggested the drain for rain to flow in should be bigger. His workers came a few days later to start. Donald was who I talked with the most and after 3 failed attempts to have a lawn, suggested we get more sun in the back yard. This was never a suggestion the other 3 landscapers told us about. They took down the trees which would give us the most sun right away as we talked. What can I say but a big thankyou. We have been ripped off 3 times and I know now that we will finally have the lawn we have waited for. Phil and his crew were so nice to chat with, had many laughs with them. Phil came out and did an estimate. I received it promptly and his became the one to beat. No one else could do the sod, drainage, and patio. In fact, we added the front yard to our original plan because he could do it for such a good price. His crew was professional and worked hard. The patio was not the right size, it was smaller than the original, but he worked out a price reduction. He also had to order more sod and that was an added expense. He also came and worked with one of his crew on the Saturday of a holiday weekend to fix the sprinklers that mysteriously didn't work at no additional cost. He was eager to make sure the experience was a good one. I can understand why his rating is so high (another reason we picked him). I have recommended him to my neighbors - who compliment us on the new yard. Update: I was happy until some of the sod started dying. I called Phil on two different times, in September and October to come and look at it. He said he would, but never did. Apparently his one year guarantee isn't worth much.
