We purchased a home in Gainesville, GA in April 2011. Exterior paint was attractive, but was peeling severly. We contracted with Protect Painters of Gwinnett owned by Tim Elshoway to prepare the surface and repaint with highest quality paint (Sherwin Williams Duration). Their estimate was the highest of four we obtained, but we did not mind paying a premium price for a premium job. They stated in their contract that the reason for the high cost was the work involved in removing the old paint and preparing the surfaces properly so that we would not have the same problem of paint peeling again. Within months of the completion of the job (which looked great at first), the new paint began cracking and separating from the walls. We met with the contractor-owner who said that the problem was not his preparation and paint job, but was just more old paint peeling up. He reluctantly agreed to "touch up" extremely bad areas. The corrections were incomplete and unsatisfactory, and now, nearly two years after our orininal contract work, the paint continues to separate from the walls and falls off. Although we are still in the 2-year warranty period, Mr. Elshoway refuses to return to the house and properly prepare the surface by removing the old paint, then priming and repainting. This whole process with Protect Painters of Gwinnett has been a nightmare, and we are now faced with re-painting, and a complete loss of our original $11,000 paint job.
