Mike did a fantastic job all everything he has done for us. It is quality work at a fair price. I am saving up tasks now for when he is next available and he will be doing a bath remodel later this year. I would highly recommend him.

The painting prep work included mainly siding replacement and wood rot repair. What I like about working with Mike is that he does look at a person's home as their castle and how best to keep in a good state of repair. Mike had pointed out things that needed to get done that I would never have noticed which I found was especially helpful. with some of the other little projects I just told Mike what I was looking for and he was able to execute my ideas perfectly.
Description of Work: I had several little projects that needed to get done around the house with the biggest one being getting the house prepped for being painted.

I caught him on the second try and set up a time. He called to asay he woudl b e late but did show. However it was clear he was not sure aobut if he wanted to do the work. He said he isn't really into painting. Last I knew that is part of homeimprovement. The rooms do have wallpaper and he did not want to touch that. In the end he never had the courtesy of even giving a quote for the cabinetry and electrical and left us handing. I explained what we needed on the phone. If you're not interested don't waste our tiem to come to pretend you will give an estimate.
Description of Work: We needed some cabinetry work done in our home. We also needed some lights installed and some painting and wallpaper removed.

I enjoyed my time with you and your wife on February 23rd. After telling you that I was uncharacteristically available, I worked your estimate and emailed it to you on February 27th. You stated that you were getting several estimates and I think perhaps you may have me confused with some of the others contractors. During our meeting: -You stated your appreciation when I brought up concerns about your underrated circuit for the new cook top that no one had else mentioned. -The only painting we discussed was about your aging kitchen cabinets. I explained the process of sanding, priming and hand painting as I have no way to spray them. -The only wall paper we discussed was in the kitchen. I explained to you that I would remove it and repair the walls on an hourly basis because it could be very difficult to remove and we would not know the extent of it until we started. -We never discussed any bathrooms, other rooms, wallpapers or painting outside of the kitchen. -We discussed the cook top install and the modifications needed to make it fit. We also discussed a new circuit and breaker of the correct amp rating to power the new cook top as well as a few other extra items that were included in your estimate. I thought we had a good meeting and am disappointed that this disconnect happened. I do hope that you get your project completed to your satisfaction and wish you the best of luck. My sincere apologies if the estimate was somehow misdirected or lost in delivery. I have attempted to call you twice. Respectfully, Mike McShane

Awesome!! That’s a word that Mike and I have frequently used as my master bathroom has evolved from a no star 1980’s builder’s grade no tell motel master bath to a 4 star hotel master bath. Mike has used the word as all of the pieces come together as every renovation he does is unique and I have been using the word as it seems like Christmas every day that I come home and Mike has done something to wow me. So what was done… • the old vanities with the preformed counter, backsplash and sink – gone and replaced with new vanities, quartz counter top, rectangular Kohler sinks and fancy faucets • Jacuzzi tub – gone and replace by a claw foot tub. This required moving the supply lines and getting the drain to match up with the new tub but Mike made doing this look real easy. • Shower and knee wall – gone, upsized and is now a frame-less glass shower. The amount of time and detail that Mike put into this was amazing. From fixing and moving a vent pipe that wasn’t 100% connected to the double drain system and red coating put on the walls to ensure that this will be as leak proof as possible. • Flooring – yup there was carpeting in part of the master bath which is also now gone and has been replaced by 12 x 24” tile in an offset pattern • Wall paper – yup there was 1980’s wallpaper. Luckily the builder did a good job of putting this up so there was minimal patch work required, followed by primer and paint and no more flowers! Part of the wall was also tiled in 12 x 12” tile which match the floor tile and was finished up with matching bull nose. • Doors - the French doors leading into the master bath were replaced with a double barn door set-up. Sweet! Timetable – Mike was able to get all the work done quicker than originally planned which allowed me to add some work. The dishwasher was replaced a fancy vent hood was installed. All of this work was done to perfection. Awesome!!

I am so sorry that I did not respond to your many attempts to reach me. I would like to explain that first of all, there is no group of us. I am the only one in this company and I do it all. On a typical day, I receive anywhere from 10 to 50 calls, texts and emails. I work hard to make my customers very happy that they hired me. I would not be able to do that or any work if I responded all day long. I have only straight "A" reviews from everyone that I can connect with! I try diligently to keep up with it all but there are truly not enough hours in a day! Again, I am very sorry!

Mike let me know when he was available, laid out his schedule and stuck to it. Always punctual. For the tasks I had, he worked by the hour. He was very knowledgeable and experienced on all the work I had for him. We discussed the best approach for the tasks to be performed, and I was very comfortable working with him. I trust him - he is an honest and fair person, a hard worker, and detail oriented. He was very productive and moved very quickly from one task to the next. I started with a list, and as Mike began completing things and doing a good job, I gave him additional tasks. I would certainly hire him again, and recommend him.
Description of Work: I had a list of items that Mike worked on - exterior masonry repair, doors and windows that had wood rot, screen repairs, fence repairs, deck repairs, exterior trim repair/replacement and painting, replace electrical switch, install drain for washing machine, replace toilet seal, grout ceramic tile, pressure wash garage/driveway/walkway, paint fireplace trim, adjust internal and external doors that wouldn't close properly.

If you need an honest, reliable, quality-oriented person to do home repairs/renovations, Mike McShane is the person to reach out to. He just completed the renovation of a small basement bath for me, and I couldn’t be more pleased. Mike is a one-man show…he can do everything from construction to tiling to electrical and plumbing. And he is an admitted perfectionist, which I especially appreciated. If I’m going to invest in what it takes for a quality, attractive renovation, I want it done right. There’s no doubt that Mike will do everything he can to provide you with an end project that you are pleased with. My husband and I were so impressed with his skills, expertise, and responsiveness that we decided to turn our rather lengthy “honey do” list over to him. It was all those little things that one can never seem to get around to, and he had them all completed in short order. He really does know his business and is fair with pricing. We had received several other quotes for the bath, and while he may not have been priced the lowest, he was also not the highest. We definitely got a good return on the investment! Bottom line, Mike is skilled, communicates, and is just a genuinely nice guy to have around. Undoubtedly, this won’t be the last time we engage Mike McShane for our home improvement projects…the master bath may be next!

Mike McShane was meticulous in every detail to assure the highest quality and design of our master shower rebuild. We will never have another problem with leaks! We photographed each step and watched the amazing work that he did. Mike ripped out all of the old mildewed tile down to the rotten boards, treated and replaced them. Then he built the form and shaped concrete and protective layers, (which were many) and installed the drain where they met perfectly. After all the waterproofing steps, he laid the tile and built a shaving cub and inset shampoo/soap box with three shelves, which we love! The tile design is beautiful and he made suggestions for the floor tile that complimented the walls tiles that we selected. Mike also put in a complimentary border so the design is very modern and adds value to our home. He also took great care to preserve all of our wall paper around the shower so I did not have to replace that too! Because of our scheduled trip out of town, Mike worked straight through weekends until it was completed. We loved his attention to detail and his friendly personality. We shared a few laughs and several meals with him and really enjoyed his company. Would I use him again and recommend him? Absolutely! We already have other projects in mind that Mike will do in the future! Great job!

I had a list of handyman "tasks" that needed to be done. Mike took the time to go over the list with me before he started to work. He told me the things he could "fix" or "install", and made recommendations on how to handle the items he was not able to complete himself. He was punctual, professional, and cleaned up all the projects he completed. I would highly recommend him for future jobs.

Mike did an unbelievably good job. His quality of work is amazing. The price above included basic materials but some we paid for separately like the tile, cabinet and sink, and tub. His workmanship was so good. We want to show off our new bath all the time. In addition we also had Mike do some other items like painting the trim for the hardwood floors we had just had installed and touch up paint throughout the house. We also had him repair the laundry room drainage system as it had leaked and warped the hardwoods there. These were separate charges from the above. Literally everything he did was great. We definitely will be using him again.

This is the second time we have used Mike. He is fantastic with his communication and his work. Mike not only helped with the jobs we asked him to do, but also was quick to answer questions and offer opinions on other projects. He also has been very busy lately with larger projects, but took the time to work with us despite his busy schedule. Would recommend Mike for these very reasons if you are looking for a reliable handyman.

Mike is extremely professional. He showed up on time and did what he was hired to do. He brought back receipts for the supplies, and cleaned up after himself each day. My kitchen looks so much better because it is more open, and it is also well lit. I am elated that the dull track lighting is gone. I will definitely hire him for future jobs!
Description of Work: Mike removed a bar top in my kitchen and installed a new chandelier in the dining room, recess lights in the kitchen, and new smoke detectors. This may not sound like a lot, but he had to remove baseboards, cut sheetrock, and patch/paint the ceiling. His patch work is impeccable! I cannot even tell where the cuts in the ceiling were made (true signs of a professional)!

Mike did a great job of rebuilding a leaky shower. He provided suggestions for tiling styles and guidance on shower doors. The work took a bit longer than I expected, but Mike works alone so that is not surprising. Each day, Mike cleaned up so that there was not a construction zone in the rest of the master bath area. Mike also disposed of all of the old de-constructed shower components such as the old door, tiles etc. Mike discussed each step with us so that we fully understood what he was doing and why. We now have a beautiful, leak-proof shower to enjoy.

Thank you for the chance to win a new customer! I enjoyed working with you and hope we can do it again. I did finish the job within the time I said I would. As far as the price goes, my quotes are usually in the middle or upper middle of the estimates people receive. The less expensive quotes usually come with a larger cost in the quality you might get. I know because I fix them all the time!! I am proud to say that I have NEVER had a failure in a shower that I have built or even a cracked tile to repair. Not many guys that do what I do can boast that type of record! Thank you again and see you next time.

It went great! Mike did a fantastic job. He communicated with us every day regarding the project and kept good records on project costs. He made good progress every day. He's an easygoing guy but a real professional. We give him our full A+ recommendation.
Description of Work: Mike remodeled our upstairs bathroom and re-tiled our downstairs half-bath. In the upstairs bath, he re-tiled the floor, replaced the bathtub and toilet, tiled the shower walls and painted the entire room. He also replaced a set of bifold doors that hide our washer/dryer closet, which was also in the bathroom. Downstairs, he re-tiled the floor and replaced some rotten wood in the sub-floor.

Overall we are very satisfied with Mike's work. The job consisted of gutting our master bathroom and remodeling it from scratch. Mike works alone and performed the majority of the work himself. This included removing the old shower stall, old garden tub, carpeting, vanity, mirror, lighting fixtures, etc. The toilet was removed but then reused. The total space was approximately 8' x 15'. The renovation required the removal of a wall, removal of a half wall, and the building of a wall to enclose the toilet stall. Carpet was replaced with tile. New lighting was installed, existing light fixtures replaced, one fan upgraded, and a new fan installed, as was a new electrical outlet. Plumbing was moved to accommodate the new shower stall. The walls were painted. Mike handled all these tasks. Mike replaced the old shower stall with a beautiful tiled shower (approximately 3' x 5'). The new shower consists of bench on one side and a recessed shelf for bath accessories. Glass doors finish it off. We had another contractor provide the vanity and mirror, and another provide the vanity counter top. Mike takes great pride in his work. He has an attention to detail and ensured the entire renovation came together. He is very easy to work with and provided helpful suggestions on colors, tile design, and bathroom fixtures. He coordinated with the other contractors so ensure proper installation of the vanity. He was able to work with my wife to implement her vision, resulting in a beautiful, more useful master bathroom. We would definitely hire him again for future projects.

Happy customers and great results is what I am all about. I really enjoyed working with you on this one, thank you!

This is the second time we've hired Mike to do a job for us. As usual, he did an outstanding job!. I appreciate how he discusses the project with you every step of the way and offers suggestions for ways to make it look topnotch. He installed a tumble marble backsplash in our kitchen and did an entire bathroom remodel upstairs. We are in the process of selling our home, and we've already enlisted his help for our home purchase in the future. If you are looking for someone who takes pride in their work, then you have found your guy. As for those who are complaining about him not returning calls right away, he is a one man show and finishing his current job right is his top priority. Trust me, he is worth the wait!
Description of Work: Mike did a bathroom remodel and a new kitchen backsplash. Additionally, he did several small repairs in the home.

Mike came out a couple of days after I contacted him, looked at what I wanted done and promptly sent an estimate. He stays very busy so it looked like I wouldn't fit in his schedule for the countertop preparation but as luck would have it, someone else moved their job back. One of the jobs involved replacing a tile countertop with granite. I wanted the new counter to extend out by 18 " to create a seating area. This involved lowering a pony wall by about 12", removing tile, repairing drywall and bracing to support the cantilevered granite being installed later in the week. Mike did such a great job and was so conscientious about cleaning up as he went that I asked him to do more and more. He put in 8 LED lights, removed and patched where older lights had been, replaced switches and electrical boxes and installed concrete backer board for the new backsplash. There is no question but that he will do the master bath remodel for us. I wouldn't consider using anyone else. His price is very fair. I had one other estimate for lowering the pony wall which was exactly the same as Mike's but I had already worked with that provider and knew his work was just OK (and I had to clean up after him). Mike's work is outstanding, he's a delightful guy AND HE CLEANS UP AFTER HIMSELF! I highly recommend Mike McShane.
Description of Work: I had a lot of small jobs and one big one - getting the kitchen ready for granite countertops by lowering a pony wall, repairing drywall, putting in LED lights, replacing switches and a complete master bath remodel coming up in a couple of months. I wanted to be sure that the person who did the bathroom is a craftsman so I figured the smaller jobs would be a good test. Mike had excellent reviews from other Angie's List members so I called him.
