We put down 20% up front and paid the rest as the project progressed. Two months later he started the project. He blamed it on the permitting process with the city. He said the job would only take 8 weeks, but it ended up taking 56 weeks! I met up with Dan maybe five times after the initial down payment. He was never available. He never answered his phone or returned our calls. He subcontracted all of the work and by the end of the project he didn't pay them what he had promised. It was delay after delay followed by excuse after excuse. After ten months we had had enough. We gave him an ultimatum, finish the job in eight weeks as originally promised or we would consider the job abandoned. We never heard from him again. We plan on filing a complaint with the state licensing board.
Description of Work: Dan built an attached garage with an upstairs master bedroom. It was integrated into the existing home. He knock down a bedroom to create a hallway into the garage and stairs to the upstairs bedroom. The existing retaining wall was taken down and dirt was excavated and rebuilt to make room for the construction.

1) The contractor took the job in the last week in May, along with 20% down to get the project started. 2) The permits were not completed/pulled until middle of JULY. Many excuses, and no reason the permits took so long. 3) The original specs on the retaining wall was at $95 per linear foot. 4) In the middle of the wall construction, costs began to skyrocket, and we magically gained another 30 feet of wall without any change order, verbal check, or notification. 5) With just the foundation, we were at 48 yards of concrete and $12K in costs. 6) The contractor refused to answer my calls for a cost review and completely shut down communications. 7) Based on the fact that costs on finishing the wall exceed the original project cost by over 120%, and the builder's lack of communication, I have chosen to end this relationship without any additional work. 8) The project is still pending a refund of my deposit. I would never recommend this vendor or do any other work with him.
Description of Work: The contractor bid the job for an 18 X 22 garage with 110' of retaining wall (separate cost from garage). None of this work was completed after almost 4 months.

They did an outstanding job. I would have them do it again in a heartbeat. It is all very high quality and they were easy to work with (contract did not include exterior finishing, which I did by myself).
Description of Work: They built a 24x24 detached garage.
