We were new to Atlanta and used RCS at the recommendation of our builder. We have spent $80,000 with RCS on cabinets, woodworking and appliances for our new home. They are clearly the worst quality/service/responsiveness organization I have ever encountered. Let me go down the list. We had to have a built-in wine cooler replaced three times - the first was dead, and the second was delivered and installed obviously damaged. We have already had to call for service on the dishwasher, refrigerator and the oven. We had to pay for a carpenter to fix custom cabinets that were too short for the space -- because we were told it was the builder's problem. Actually, the space never changed. RCS measured incorrectly. The only work they were willing to do would have only made the problem worse. RCS carpentry work, especially in a downstairs bar, has been uniformly sloppy. Sheets of wood paneling do not match. There are obvious scratches. There is an chip in a $4,000 walnut bar top. Their solution was not to tell us, and to hit it with a spot of varnish, which only highlights it. We also returned $600 worth of hardware for the bar that was the wrong choice - with the assurance that we would receive credit to purchase new hardware. We never received the credit. The RCS rep left the company and, for reasons I can't begin to understand, took the hardware with her. Another frustrating issue is the panels on the refrigerator. RCS sent different carpenters out four times to put the panels on -- and each time they (a) didn't know why they were there or (b) had panels incorrectly sized or (c) didn't have the right material to attach them. Each time, we were told that the new pieces had to be ordered and then no contact. When we called -- each time we were told they were back ordered and each time the pieces that finally came in were wrong. There have been no real records kept. Each of the different service people who came out had little or no idea what the ones before them had done - or what are needs are. After six months or so, we finally got the panels on the front, but after more than two years, we are still waiting for the side panels. And just when we thought things could not get any more unprofessional - due to a dispute they had with our builder (he stopped payment to RCS because of non-service in other projects that had absolutely nothing to do with us (we paid in full), they put a lien on our home. We were told we would be sent a letter for our files acknowledging the mistake. No surprise - we never received it. We gave up. They win. We are slowly fixing their mistakes and shoddy work ourselves. Our thanks to Angie s List for the chance to help others not make the same mistake we did.

This project began in August 2006, hoping to have the project completed by Thanksgiving. Mr. Chris Anderson came to the house, measured everything for the project, and informed me that the cost including the decorative front, remote thermostat, etc. would be $3700.00. He said it would be about 3 weeks, charged $1850.00 to my credit card and ordered the materials. 8 weeks later, no fireplace. The week before Thanksgiving, I was informed that the materials had arrived. RCS sub-contracts their installation work Mr. Jim Weaver (GREAT GUY!) said that he will be out to do the installation. On 'installation day', Mr. Weaver calls to inform me that all the materials were NOT in. Two hours later, after Mr. Weaver scoured the warehouse, he thought he'd located everything. He then arrived at the house 3 hours late and began installation. Today is DECEMBER 27, 2006. The decorative front and surround were the WRONG size and color and what we ordered 4 months ago, is no longer available.
Description of Work: Transforming a pre-existing fireplace (12 years old) into a gas insert (heatNglow FB-ZC) fireplace with decorative surround, remote temperature and thermostat controls, and decorative front cover. This required RCS trained staff (Mr. Chris Anderson) to come to the house, assess the required materials, order the materials, and schedule the installation with their sub-contractor. THIS PROJECT BEGAN IN AUGUST 2006, IT IS NOW DEC. 27, 2006, MY CREDIT CARD HAS BEEN CHARGED THE FULL AMOUNT, AND I AM STILL AWAITING THE INSTALLATION OF THE DECORATIVE FRONT (which is now out of stock and discontinued according to the factory) AND THE SURROUND. I was also told by the factory not to operate the fireplace without having the surround installed first. RCS - has $3700.00 and I HAVE NOTHING BUT AN UGLY FIREPLACE INSERT IN MY LIVING ROOM!
