Hewes Family Movers

They were wonderful. A much more simple approach than a major corporate line, but out preformed any company I have ever dealt with. True southern gentlemen and professionals. Their unique way of transporting fragile items sets them apart. They have a separate van they use for all fragile items, so it is a smoother ride and also provide extra protection.

These guys were incredible! The best in the business!!! When we first started the search for movers all the others had additional charges(steps, boxing up artwork, charge by the pound, etc...), but not Hewes Family Movers. They gave us a firm quote and there were no hidden fees. (which is not how some of the other highly rated movers conduct business) They were prompt, polite (yes ma'am, yes sir), and took such great care of our personal items, as if they were moving their own home. OUTSTANDING!!! We couldn't believe they were able to pack up our entire house in 6 hours (with 5 guys), and unload it into storage less than 8 hours with 2 guys. Not once did we hear them complain about the volume of what they had to move, the heat, being tired or anything. They were all professional and really cared about doing a fantastic job and making us happy. In addition, we weren't sure if all of our items would fit into the size storage unit we reserved. It was close - and they were able to rearrange a few things so it all fit. That alone saved us an additional $100 a month. We would highly recommend Hewes Family Movers to anyone looking to move!

They haven't done the job yet but so far they've been really courteous in talking to me on the phone. They are a little bit busy so sometimes it's hard for them to get back with me. I think they have a lot of business and just haven't upgraded their colleague, the amount of people and the amount of equipment they have. With just a phone call, it seems like they know what they're doing and they're good at what they do. I haven't gotten any other quotes but they did say that they're usually a little bit more than other people but they provide quality work.

I e-mailed the company near the end of May to get an estimate, but did not hear back for a couple of days. Bill Hewes e-mailed me back and apologized and said he would call me on Monday. He didn't. On Wed or Thursday, I e-mailed him again asking to get an estimate. He called me on Thursday and set up the estimate for Saturday. The estimator came and did his thing, but told me that the cost they would quote was for the move, but that additional packing would cost $60/man/hour. He told me I would get the estimate soon. I didn't get an estimate for over a week, so I e-mailed them again. I got an apoplogy back from Bill and said he would get me a quote soon, but someone else had the paperwork. I finally got a quote much later in the day. Since I was unclear about what was covered and what I would be charged extra for, I called the next Monday and talked to Bill on the phone. He explained to me that since we were planning to pack most of our small stuff ourselves, there wouldn't be a lot of extra packing charges, as wrapping furniture, pictures, mirrors, take-down of beds and other furniture, and set-up at the other end was included in the move. We also discussed damage insurance. He told me he was in his truck and would send me information when he got back to the office. I didn't get anything, so e-mailed him two days later asking if he forgot. I told him I really wanted to use his company because of the Angie's List reviews. He e-mailed me back two days after that and again apologized, saying they were busier than usual and that he would look at my folder and get back to me. I didn't hear anything the next day, so I again e-mailed him and said we reeally wanted to use them, but really needed a quote the next day so that we could get our move scheduled. He wrote me back two days later and again apologized and concluded that we must have already gotten another mover. He still hadn't provided the info he said he would. With that contact, I decided to go with another mover, who was somewhat higher, but more responsive and much clearer on what the estimate covered. Bill was friendly enough when I talked to him, but apologized for being busier than usual. I understand, but since it took us 4 weeks to go from the first request I made to his final concession message, I can't recommend the company until they greatly improve their response time and clarity of what the move estimate and insurance covers. I suspect they could be good movers if we could have gotten them signed up, but it was way too hard to make that happen.

Hewes Family Movers were wonderful. This was a very difficult move for my elderly parents, and we could not have asked for things to go more smoothly. They were extremely patient and professional. We had zero damage. I have a sister who will probably be making the move from the Atlanta area to Florida within the next year, and we will definitely use them again!

These guys are good ........ very hard working, fair, honest, knowledgable, professional ... kind, courteous, obedient (wait a minute, didn't see any eagle scout badges ?). No, seriously, you can't go wrong with Bill and his family (Eric is a great guy). We were very happy with the results in every respect, and I'm certain you would be too. Very careful and NO damage. Forgot to mention price ... far better than expected. Did not expect to get this sort of service along with such a reasonable price.

Actually, I've reviewed this once before for y'all but I really have nothing but good words for Hewes Family Movers. They were prompt and efficient, willing to go the extra yard (or mile) to get us moved from a cramped in town home to a more spacious "country" home. They arrived punctually, handled our household items with care, and just generally made what could have been a very trying day much less stressful. I hope we don't move any time soon but if we do, I will call Hewes again. I have recommended them to friends without ant second thoughts. They were excellent!

Excellently. They arrived maybe 5 minutes after 10 and were done around 4 pm. This was less time then anticipated so we paid less than the "better than a quote" price we received. The guys--all 4--were strong, efficient, polite, and happy. They all seemed to be friends with each other and chatted while they worked, but far from slowing them down, this seemed to simply make them work happier and more efficiently. To be honest, we were VERY impressed with how efficiently they moved the stuff and packed it onto the truck. Unpacking is, I think, an easier process, but they were happy to move stuff from one spot to another if we asked. Seems like you can't go wrong with these guys. UPDATE: Hewes did great again, moving my parents from NYC to GA. Hewes=good people, great company. Highly recommend. Also: Their price for the interstate move was lower than the interstate moving companies we contacted. The big guys also would have had to load the stuff on a small truck, transfer to a big truck, then back to a small truck for delivery (since the big trucks can't get into the residential neighborhoods easily enough). Since Hewes uses their own trucks, none of that was a concern--they sent a truck big enough to carry everything and small enough to get into the neighborhoods.

I can't say enough good things about Hewes Family Movers. Prior to the move they sent someone to the house to do a walk-through. He gave me a detailed "estimate". He made it very clear that this was the maximum I would have to pay regardless of what happened. The original estimate was 10 hours and almost $2000. The actual move was completed in about 6 hours and cost about $1150. Scheduling everything with Bill was also extremely easy. Our closing date slipped by 2 weeks and that was no problem. He just rescheduled us for the new date. We did not have to put any money up front. The day of the move, four young men showed up and took care of everything. They were extremely polite and professional. They worked very hard to make sure everything went well, nothing was damaged and that we were happy. This move was a little complicated with having to take items to both the apartment and storage unit. They handled everything perfectly. When we move again, I will definitely use Hewes Family Movers.

My wife and I scheduled our move almost a month in advance with Hewes. A hiccup occurred with the sellers movers at our closing that effected our plans making us move one day behind without any notice. Bill Hewes, the owner, and his assistant took my call, and were able to move our date forward one day. They adjusted their schedule to ours seamlessly. On the following day, two representatives (Eric and Grayson) came to our home at 8 a.m. They were prompt and on time. After scoping out the job, Eric and Grayson immediately went to work. They were busy the whole time, extremely professional and polite. At the end of the move we determined that not only did we have an excellent customer service experience, not one item was damaged or unaccounted for. These guys were like machines, worked efficiently, never complained and got the job done. They represented Hewes Family Movers very well. If I would change anything, I would of liked to have had one more mover with them. I have no complaints whatsoever and my wife and I were extremely satisfied with the service provided. I would recommend this company to anyone.

Since the move was coordinated to be at the end of their day, the first scheduled date actually did not work out as their earlier move did not finish in time. The second scheduled date was fine. The move itself went smoothly, except for a quarter-width dent/scratch to the wood on the front of the piano, right by the key hole. The movers called the owner promptly, and he offered to have someone repair it (for a lot more than the move costs). Since the piano was for our kid to learn on, I took a reduction in the move cost as a compromise (so they are not losing money) and everything worked out fine. The movers were professional and know what they were doing, the owner was very responsive and helpful. I would use them again.

Excellent company. The moving crew arrived on time and immediately went to work. I requested a four man crew. All four young men were extremely cordial and professional throughout the entire move. They went right to work and only stopped for short water breaks a couple of times. They unloaded a 28' moving truck as well as a two car garage full of boxes in only three hours. That included several heavy woodworking tools (table saw, jointer, bandsaw, etc) moved downstairs into the basement. I could not have been more pleased w/ how the move went. I will recommend them to anyone w/ a pending move.

Awesome. We have lots of valuable antiques (antique re-finishers have told us some of the glass in a china cabinet & dresser is basically irreplaceable). We were very apprehensive about the move. Everything went fabulous. Moving may be one of the worst things to ever do. Alan & David from Hewes made the experience the best it could be. These guys showed up on-time; all day addressed us with "yes, sir/no, sir"; were extra-ordinarily courteous, hard working and most importantly; everything was in the new house exactly where we wanted it, with not one scratch. (The guys asked us multiple times if we wanted something moved elsewhere.) We moved from a four bed-room to a three bed-room. So this was a pretty big move. My wife interviewed five movers. Bill, one of the owners came out to our house, reviewed everything, gave us an estimate. Everything was completed as agreed at a slightly LESS price than estimated because Alan & David completed the job sooner that expected. When I tell you this is a great company & business partner, I am not kidding. If every business arrangement went this smoothly, the world would be a better place. I sound like a commercial, family-member or an employee, but we are not. Bottom-line, I would recommend this family-owned company to anyone. I hope I never, ever move again; but if I do, I will not shop ---- I'll just call Hewes to come do it again. They do business the old fashioned way, great service at a competitive price. Hire 'em.

My sister called to confirm the move a few days beforehand and discovered the town name was misunderstood in the initial phone conversation(Lavonia was thougt to have been Lithonia). However, the movers vowed to make the move for the quoted price, which was much less than the actual move should have cost! The men arrived on time BOTH at the site of the furniture and at the destination of the furniture. The movers used extreme care with the furniture: heavy moving blankets, bundling bolts for re-assembly, placing pieces carefully at the destination point. The company spokesperson refused to accept more than the quoted price, saying the mistake was not the customer's. An honest, prompt, efficient moving company is hard to find these days!

Working with the guys from Hewes was a truely great experience. We were beyond impressed. Highly, highly recommend this company. Nice work guys!

As moves are concerned, this has been our best experience, ever ... it was not perfect since no move is ever so ... there is always a little dent here or a scratch there that are unavoidable ... Mr. Hawes made the quote and was nearly right on target and the 4 man crew was pleasant and hard working ... great experience ... will keep them in mind for our next move ... HIGHLY RECOMMEND!

I called to get an estimate for a local move. The person I spoke with told me that they had an estimator that would be out 2 days later, and that he would check the guy's schedule and call me back within an hour. 6 hours later when he finally called back, we determined that I wouldn't be available when the estimator would be in my area, but that he would be finishing up with a move at about 3 the next day and could come himself - he would call at about 2:30 to give me an ETA. 2:30 came and went, and I got a call at about 6 that he had forgotten and was already out of Atlanta again, could we try again with the original estimator? I agreed, and he said he'd call in the morning to confirm the estimator's schedule. I never heard from him. Mid-afternoon, I got a call from the estimator telling me he was on his way - at that point I told him I was no longer interested. If 3 separate times you can't remember to call a customer when you say you will, I don't trust you to actually remember to show up on my moving day!

The move went well considering I was distraught due to the death of my father. One item was accidentally left on the moving van and Bill Hewes personally delivered it to my new home a few weeks later, since he was in the area for another job. Most companies would have shipped the item to me, but it was especially fragile , so he hand-delivered it. Now that 's what I call value-added service!

It went really well! Bill phoned me back the same day to discuss the services I needed. He let me know that he was wiling to have my service completed when his guys were nearby so that I could pay a fairer price on a quick sofa relocation job. I appreciated his flexibility and concern for my personal bottom line. After about a week we were able to coordinate my schedule with his movers' schedule. The movers contacted me when they were en route and arrived quite quickly. They were professional, friendly and personable. I will definitely call Hewes in the future so I can get a quote on moving my entire house to a new house!

The men called to say they could be there earlier then discussed which was fine. They brought it down and set it up were done in 20 minutes.

The estimator arrived as scheduled and gave us an estimate. I thought the hourly rate was fair but his estimate of the time required to be excessive but he assured us that we would pay for the actual time required. It took less time and we paid less. Chris and his two assistants arrived on schedule, surveyed the items to be moved and proceed in a rapid manner to load the truck. The unloading was as efficient as the loading. They were most professional, courteous and respecful of our furniture. No problems or damage occured. We highly recommend this moving company and would use them again.
