Description of Work: Fixed a roof leak that I had around my chimney. Very prompt in getting the job done and at a very reasonable price. Cost me half as much as a previous estimate given to me by another company.

Mr. Abney returned my call within just a few minutes. Mr. Abney discussed my issue & anticipated solution and gave me a rough price estimate on the phone. Mr. Abney set an appointment with us for the next day. The Dixie Roofing workers called to confirm the appointment and arrived promptly. The workers got the job done quickly during the appointment. The price was the same as quoted previously.
Description of Work: Dixie Roofing workers replaced degraded pipe boots on roof.

Dixie roofing was prompt to responding to give me an estimate. The estimator described exactly what he planned to do, how the new roof would be installed and what was included in the estimate. Other estimates ranged from $6100-$7700 for installing 30 year laminated asphalt shingles( some times called architect shingles). These shingles cost about 20% more than a traditional 3 tab shingle, but last longer, and look better. They also have a higher wind rating. My shingles have a 80 mph wind rating. Roofing is measured in "squares" which is 100 square feet. The shingles are sold by the bundle, each has 22 shingles and covers .33 of a square. Current prices for shingles varies from $50-$100 per square. when getting estimates, ask the contractor how many squares of materials you need for your roof. The different contractors measurements ranged from 35 squares to 45 squares of materials needed to cover my roof. Dixie estimated the roof at 35 squares and had lowest estimate at $6100. Because of the wide range of estimates, I decided to measure the roof myself. I figured it at 38 squares. ( I was wrong) Dixie agreed to do the roof for there estimated price, even after I told them the roof was larger than they estimated. Dixie roofing had 38 squares of material delivered to my house on a Thursday and came to install the roof the following Tuesday. The work crew arrived on time. While they were installing the roof, they ran out of shingles. My roof ending up requiring 44 squares of shingles. I agreed to pay for the extra 6 squares of shingles, and Dixie roofing payed for the extra felt, nails and labor. This raised my final cost from $6100 to $6600. All the workers were polite, and the quality of work was good. The flashing around the chimney is neat and a lot better looking than the old flashing. All the shingle rows are straight and even. The shingles were cut nice and even along the ends of the roof and the caps look nice and even. The work took 1 and 1/2 days There was some minor damage done to yard, but that was expected with any roofing company. I felt Dixie did a good job limiting the damage done. Over all, I'm pleased with the work done by Dixie Roofing. I would use them again and recommend them to others. Although Dixie roofing deliver the lowest cost roof, it was largely because the estimator under estimated the size of the roof. To be fair, my roof has a lot of ridges and is fairly complex, which makes it hard to measure. Myself and another contractor also measured it wrong. The two problems I had was there was a lot of nails left on the roof and gutters. I was able to remove these myself, but I felt Dixie roofing could have done better cleaning these up. The second problem was the power vent was not hooked up to power. It was not a problem for me to hook up the power, but could be a problem for those not able to do there own minor electrical work.
Description of Work: Dixie roofing did the following- 1. Removed and hauled away my old roofing. This company removed all the roofing, including old felt. Some companies only want to roof over old roof or leave old felt. By removing all the old material, it lets the roofer inspect the decking for bad boards, and the new roof will lay flatter and last longer. 2.Repaired broken or rotten decking. They did not charge any extra for repairing some rotten decking on my roof. I was told if more than 1 sheet was rotten, it would be $30.00 charge for extra sheeting. I only had a few small spots, so no extra charge. 4.Installed new felt, pipe flanges. ice shield in and new power vent. By using all new flanges, it reduces chances of leaking and looks better. They forgot to hook power to my new power vent. 5. Installed new asphalt laminate shingles. all shingles were hand nailed. Some companies air nail the shingles, this can tear the shingles or shoot the nail all the way thru the shingles. Hand nailing makes for a more durable roof. 6. Clean grounds. they cleaned up all the old shingles pretty well, but left about a pound of nails on the roof and gutters.
