Smith and son's was contacted to obtain a quote for the siding work. Jeremy smith quickly came out to see the work required and provide an estimate. The work was quoted at $1250.00 to replace the approximately 45 siding boards, and this amount accounted for only Jeremy's labor. I provided all of the needed materials. After ordering and receving all the materials, I contacted Jeremy to begin work. Work started almost a week later because of Jeremy's other work engagements. Work continued over the next 4 weeks, which is something I was pretty dissapointed in. In the begining I did not know that my business was only Jeremy's and quot;weekend workand quot; and that he worked full time at a cabinet shop in Claxton Monday through Friday. This job could have been completed in 6 days but it was stretched out over a month because of Jeremy's choice to maintain a day job. The work was completed slowly and I would categorize the quality as fair. After a section of the siding was completed, I performed a close inspection and found many problem that required fixing. Split boards, loose boards, nails missing, gaps left. To Jeremy's credit, he did his best to correct these problems after I informed him of the issues. I would have much rather had the work be done correctly the first time as this would have resulted in quicker turn around and less wasted materials. I sensed that many times Jeremy knew what the problems were but was hoping I wouldn't notice so he wouldn't have to go back to fix the problems. There were some quality aspects of Jeremy's work that were not possible for him to correct. I asked for him to take his time while sawing the cedar so that the edges don't splinter. There were many board that were noticably splintered on the edge which detracted from the look of the installation. Jeremy's solution to this was to fill in around the boards with DAP caulk. I would rather not have used caulk on the boards because it seals in moisture but had no choice because of the splintered boards. Caulk seemed to be Jeremy's solution anytime there was a gap or splintered board..... At the beginning of the project, I assumed that the agreed $1250.00 would be payable at the end of the project after work had been completed and inspected. At the end of each work day Jeremy forcibly requested a and quot;drawand quot; against the payment. I found this very unprofessional and refused to advance beyond $625.00 until the work was completed. On the last day of work Jeremy worked until nightfall so that he could get payed the final balance. He asked for me to inspect the work by flashlight so that he could be paid, and so that he could pay off some other guy that he owed money to ( I heard many sad stories for why he needed be paid - very unprofessional!!). In the end, the work didn't really meet my quality expectations but was good enough to match the surrounding siding. I would not re-hire Smith and son's to perform carpentry. The quality was too low and the completion was too slow. Jeremy's unprofessional approach carried more drama than I am willing to deal with.
Description of Work: The job required removal of rotted and cracked cedar siding boards from the side of our home and replacement of the board with brand new ones.

When i called he was at another job and assured me he would call back. Later the same day he called back to meet with me to discuss the job. When he ensured he could do it he followed me to lowe's to purchase the required materials to do the job. the following day he worked from 1500 to 1930 so that he could finsh the next day. Why so late? He made it a priority to work around my schedule, in which he succeeded. Did a great job would recommend his team to do any house repairs.
