Description of Work: Yesterday morning I received a call from Louis Grech, the owner of J.H. Konrad, informing that the employee who was scheduled to repair my gas logs remote had to attend to an ailing child. Louis said he, instead, would drop by and take a look at the remote. After experimenting with a few solutions he determined that the issue was a faulty wire harness. The equipment was rather outdated and to replace with a newer version would lead to a very expensive venture. Instead, at his suggestion, I was able to locate and contact the manufacturer, Skytech, and inquired about the outdated harness. They actually had one and said they would put it in the mail and get it to me as soon as possible. Mr. Grech not only offered a solution but saved me a bundle in the process. I highly recommend J.H. Konrad for fireplace related problems!

Description of Work: Two gentlemen came to replace the rear refractor wall on my fireplace, as well as do an inspection to be sure it was safe for use. They were very kind, did a good job overall, and answered all of my questions (including how to operate my gas starter and if my firewood pile contained the right kind of wood). The only thing I was skeptical of was that when "inspecting" my chimney, all they did was open the flue, some black dust came out, and they looked up it with a flashlight. They did not put any sort of sweep up it, etc. I do wonder if that was a thorough enough inspection, as I read stories about this online. I just pray they didn't miss anything.

Description of Work: Technician called ahead and showed up on time. Informed me that I really didn't need cleaning as it had been cleaned recently. Appreciated his honesty as it had come up on a home inspection and i had already agreed to have it cleaned. Overall would gladly use them again.

Description of Work: We have a fireplace in the living room and a large wood burning heater in the basement. They cleaned both; replaced the back fire wall piece of the fireplace which was broken; and replaced the mesh screen at the front of the fireplace. They were very careful, put down plastic and taped up areas of both units where soot might get out. No mess at all.

Description of Work: the two guys were GREAT! professional, hardworking, and thoroughly invested my problem and had it fixed in about 25 mins. I loved them so much, I referred them to my neighbor and they used them the same day!! Plus they fit me between appts which was a huge help since I was working from home that day. Very accommodating.

+ -1 moreThe problem was a simple fix; there was no other charge than the initial visit/service charge.My problem was that the high temp cutoff sensor shut off the pilot because the logs were not arranged properly-being touched by the flame, when they shouldn't be. They said on fireplaces like mine that there was only one correct way for the logs to be arranged. The logs had been in the same position for the 5 years I'd had the fireplace. I was skeptical of their advice/service on the problem, but found a day later that they were absolutely correct.
Description of Work: My electric ignition gas fireplace kept losing the pilot light. They came out to diagnose problem/service the issue.

+ 1 moreEverything seems to have gone very well, although we have not used the fireplace yet. They were very quick to respond to our inquiry. In fact, the owner himself responded and provided a quotation by phone. The work was performed promptly within two business days of the quote. They were careful to put down a runner on our recently cleaned carpet, and we were very happy with them.
Description of Work: They replaced a cracked back wall in our fireplace and installed a new gas starter head, as well as caulking the panel around the gas pipe entrance. They provided a complimentary chimney cleaning also.

WORK WAS ACCOMPLISHED OVER THREE DAYS WHILE I WAS AT WORK, SO I NEVER ACTUALLY MET THE WORKERS. CLEAN-UP OF MY HOUSE AND YARD WAS DONE EACH NIGHT BEFORE THE WORKERS LEFT, THOUGH IT COULD HAVE BEEN A BIT BETTER. HOWEVER, I UNDERSTAND THAT CHIMNEY REPAIR IS INHERENTLY A DUSTY, MESSY JOB. PRICE WAS REASONABLE GIVEN THE SCALE OF WORK TO BE ACCOMPLISHED, AND THE QUALITY OF THE WORKMANSHIP AND FINISHED PRODUCT SEEMS OVERALL GOOD.

AFTER THE SECOND DAY, THEY REPORTEDLY WERE FINISHED, BUT AS I INSPECTED THE JOB, THERE WERE SEVERAL AREAS NOT REPAIRED. ANOTHER EMPLOYEE RETURNED AND FIXED THE PROBLEM, BUT STILL NO SIGN OF THE OWNER, EVEN AFTER NUMEROUS CALLS. NOW, I HAVE AN ISSUE WITH THE DRAFTING OF THE CHIMNEY, WHICH HAD NEVER BEEN A PROBLEM. I CALLED THE OWNER, BUT IT TOOK FOUR BUSINESS DAYS FOR A RESPONSE; STILL TRYING TO TRACK HIM DOWN.
Description of Work: THIS COMPANY RELINED MY CHIMNEY AND REPAIRED THE SMOKE SHELF AND FIREBOX. ALSO ADDED A DAMPER.
