The old heat pump started icing up at the inside unit. The technician from Associated arrived on schedule and diagnosed a leak in the inside condenser coil, meaning it must be replaced since it cannot be repaired. He said the boss, Kevin, would call with a price and alternatives. Kevin Hoek, the owner, called promptly. The cost to replace the coil on the 7-year old Goodman unit would be over $1200. An alternative was to replace the old unit entirely with a new, more efficient Carrier unit at a cost of $4200. The new unit would come with a 10-year parts and 1-year labor warranty. Since the old unit was nearing the end of it's expected life, we decided to go with the new unit. Kevin ordered the unit, it arrived next day and was installed promptly. The two technicians who came to install were very knowledgeable, worked quickly and efficiently and did an excellent, neat job, especially considering they had to work in pouring rain and in the dark (they arrived at 5pm and finished considerably after dark). The new unit works as expected.and we are happy with the outcome. The company secretary registered the unit with Carrier to activate the warranty and mailed us the registration form the next day.
