+ -1 moreAll of the items, covering about 100 square feet, were removed and hauled away within 30 minutes. Carrying the items through an uphill passage was not at all easy but the work was completed without any problems or delay.
Description of Work: The hauling men hauled furniture, computer equipment, other items from our home and either recycled or disposed of them. I had described the items, amount, location, etc. that needed attention during my initial phone call. The Hauling men assessed the cost and promptly scheduled a service date.

The first time I contacted The Hauling Men, it was the same day - I had an unexpected day off from work - so I understood if the job could not be performed on short notice. But I was told they may be able to come and that I'd be called back. No call that day. So I gave it up for a while. I called again several months later on a Friday (I can't recall exactly the date of service) and made an appointment for the following Tuesday. By Friday I was annoyed nothing had happened, the stuff was still in my yard, and nobody had called. When I got the guy on the phone, he didn't remember me or the job, and finally said vaguely, "oh, I guess I forgot." Finally the following TUE/WED I drove in the yard to see that the futon was finally gone. - YAY! But that was about all. I had left him a long list of priority-ranked jobs to go - mostly yard waste - and all they took, basically, was the futon. I called him back (I think his name was Andre; it's been a while) and asked him what was going on, and he gave me a pitiful spiel about how heavy the futon was and how far they had to carry it. Nothing in his ad said anything about weight or distance. He said it took 4 men to lift it up into the truck! He must have some puny people working for him, that's all I have to say. That's all I got for $79 bucks. When I went online to see how large his trucks are, I got really angry. I was supposed to have a third of a truckload, and there's no way my futon, a small plant stand that was already falling apart, and a can of yard waste took up that much room. I feel like he didn't really feel like doing the job, and that I have been taken advantage of. I would never recommend him to anyone.
Description of Work: They hauled a full sized (wet and heavy) futon mattress from my deck to the street, approximately 25-30 yards, plus a flimsy plant stand, and emptied the already-packed yard waste that was sitting out on the sidewalk for the city to collect. I had a mountain of yard waste IN the yard I wanted removed, but that didn't happen. (See below.)

The Hauling Men came out to my location and when he looked at what I needed to have hauled and that it was down some steps and into the backyard he told me it was going to take too many trips because of the distance so he requested $80.00 more than the Big Deal price. We attempted to negotiate with him and he refused to go any lower or honor the Big Deal on it's own.
Description of Work: I had got a Big Deal for junk removal for removal of construction debris from renovating.

+ -1 moreI had a coupon from Angie's List for hauling. I first sent an email to the company asking for date/times available. Never heard back from them. After about a week I simply called and they were friendly and scheduled an appointment for the upcoming Saturday. I described what I needed hauled away (basically a shed area of about 8X10 underneath our deck). Not everything was to be removed but a majority of it. On Saturday they failed to show despite my calling a couple of times after the scheduled time. They were apologetic and we agreed they would come out the next morning (Sunday). They did come out the next day and looked at what needed to be removed. The workers called the owner (I presume) and explained the job. He spoke to me and said they may have to charge me n additional $35 because the items were in the backyard and needed to be carried a short distance to their truck. I agreed but it was a bit vague if I definitely needed to pay that or not. But I also spent the next 45 minutes helping the two men in hauling things away, and separating out what wasn't being hauled. When the work was done, I tipped the drivers (they worked hard and did a great job) and thought we were done. And nothing was mentioned about the $35 for the additional distance. I assumed that perhaps since I worked equally with the men in hauling items away, they factored that in and didn't charge me. About 5 minutes later they came back and asked me to speak to the owner on the phone. He said the drivers had taken a picture of what was removed and it was more than what the coupon allowed for. And now he wanted more money or he said the drivers could start emptying the truck. I didn't really appreciate this. This wasn't about the fact there was distance to carry the items but about the amount of items that were removed. I had explained exactly what I needed removed when I made the appointment. They also saw what needed to be removed prior to starting the work. While they advised me of possibly charging me more because of the distance to the truck, nothing was said that what I had exceeded the coupon and more money would need to be paid. Had they said that up front, we could have discussed it and I'm sure worked out a solution. But now I felt I was being held hostage. So we did discuss it and agreed upon additional money. I'm not sure they were happy with the amount additional but then neither was I. On the whole, the company did the work requested. And the men who showed up were professional and hard-working. So I can recommend the company. However, I would stress that work being done be discussed in detail beforehand and the price be settled before anything is started. I stated I would use them again and I probably would. But the fact they didn't show up on the original date scheduled and asked for additional money AFTER the work was completed did leave a bad taste in my mouth. When they show up to do a job, in my mind they need to assess the job before starting and if additional payment is needed, they need to state that immediately. They could have taken a photo prior to starting if they were unsure. Obviously they did that after the fact. So to me this was a bit of a mixed bag. They did do the work and did it well. But the scheduling and cost weren't exactly what I was expecting.
Description of Work: I called the company to have them remove some unwanted items from a shed under my deck. I was using an Angie's List coupon. They ranged from non-working lawn equipment to wood left over from previous home repairs by the previous owners.

We called The Hauling Men Saturday morning and few hours later two guys arrived at the house at the exact time we scheduled. They were both very polite and worked fast. My husband and I were very pleased with their work and next time we need this kind of service we will certainly call this company. They did an excellent job for a very good price.

+ -1 moreThese guys were really great. They were very responsive to our initial phone call and made arrangements to come out to the house within a couple of days of us calling. While our job wasn't very big, they were very courteous and professional. They were also exactly on time, worked quickly, cleaned up and then left. They really did exactly what they said they were going to do and we appreciated that fact. We will certainly use them again.

I like that they included the fees for recycling the paint rather than calculating it separately per can. They came out the same day and got the job done quickly, including getting stuff out from under the porch and the crawl space. No problem using a coupon. Great service!

They called me the day before as a reminder and told me they would give me a call 45 minutes prior to arrival. They called me during that window came to my house picked up whatever I pointed to (just like they say in the ad) I would use them again if the need arises and would have no problem recommending them to friends. Courteous and punctual.
Description of Work: I had some broken furniture tires and things i wanted to get rid of the special was offered on Angie's list and I took advantage of the deal.

+ -1 moreFINALLY...... a hauling/trash company that takes their job seriously and does it right! Contact The Hauling Men via their website and provided a phone number and what I needed accomplished. Got a call back within hours and a time window secured for the next Saturday. The staff member promised to call when they were 25-30 minutes out to let me know they were on their way. Saturday rolled around and sure enough, got the call they were inbound to my location. They arrived 5 minutes earlier than they predicted and within 20 minutes had everything loaded and secured in their company truck. I even felt compelled to "tip" based on the efficient service and professionalism. This is certainly a company that has earned any future business and recommendations I can provided. Highly Recommended.
Description of Work: Bed frames, mattresses, dresser, various bags of large junk and supplies. Filled half a garage with this stuff.

I had spoken to Andre prior to coming out and he said the coupon would cover a load that would fill approximately the bed of a small pickup truck. He and his helper arrived on time on a Saturday morning (which was extremely convenient for me) and first loaded up the two large boxes of floor tile. He then advised me that even though the size of the boxes of tile were less than the bed of a pickup, the weight of the tile this would put me at the maximum load but for another $25 they would take away the rest of the debris. I agreed to pay the additional fee and they hauled away all construction debris I had sitting in my backyard. Then did a neat and thorough job and I was pleased with the results.
Description of Work: Removal of two large boxes of floor tile, and construction debris (including Hardie plank siding, wood).

+ -1 moreI called them a few days ago for an estimate on this job. I was quoted $50, and we scheduled the pick up for today. Andre called me this morning, saying that he would be here around 10:30 or 11:00. He arrived right on time, and we confirmed the quoted price before he loaded the freezer. I was also impressed that he found my house without having to ask for directions. Most people get lost the first time they come to my house, but Andre apparently had no problem at all. Andre and his partner were very friendly and professional. They quickly loaded the freezer and took my check, leaving me an involce and a business card. I invited him to step inside while I wrote the check, and he declined because he didn't want to track any dirt into my house. As he was leaving, he asked if it would be ok to pull into the edge of my yard to turn around. I have no complaints with the service I received, and i would definitely use Andre again. It's possible that I could have found someone else to haul off the freezer a little cheaper, but I would still be willing to pay a little extra for this level of professionalism and reliable service. I can highly recommend these guys to anyone.

However, I can say that I was very impressed with their responsiveness and great attitude. The bar unit was cumbersome, but the owner (I assume) did not blink an eye when he saw it. They were unable to park in the driveway and hauled everything to the street. There were three men working, and the whole job took, maybe, 20 minutes. All three were cheerful and friendly. I don't know why this company has gotten negative reviews; I will not hesitate to use them again.
Description of Work: Hauled away various large fiberglass pots, odds and ends from old landscape lighting and a large patio bar unit.

Description of Work: First off I've used Angies List for years and love the site. I try and only write good reviews. Karma, Karma, Karma. However, This company really needs to be written up and Angies List subscribers need to be warned about the Hauling Men's lack of professionalism. Bought a coupon on Angies List for 50% off trash hauling on April 2nd. After several calls Andre promised me they'd be right out. I explained exactly what I had, some old plywood, 2x4's. Long story short....on April 24th after repeated ( I mean 5x that they were coming out - Andre promised) I'd had it. Just couldn't waste my time with someone who was not reliable.

+ -1 moreI had a medium sized brush pile in my backyard. I used the Bid Deal coupon to have The Hauling Men remove it. The first time I called to schedule the appointment, I was promised a call back and did not receive it. I called again. Andre's response was: "I thought somebody called you. We will be in your area tomorrow". This was not much of a notice but I was able to make arrangements to have my wife at home. On the phone, he told me that the coupon would probably not cover the removal of the entire pile and that I would have to pay extra. I pushed Andre to define "1/3 of a load" and how he quantifies his pricing for the extra. I could not get a straight answer from him. He stated that he would just have to see the debris pile. When he arrived at my home, he never stopped talking on the phone to acknowledge my wife or her questions about the extra costs for the debris pile removal. Out of frustration, my wife told Andre to remove only the amount that the Big Deal coupon will cover. The majority of my debris pile was left. It appears that The Hauling Men define a 1/3 load as nothing more than what would fit into the bed of a small pick up truck. In summary: the coupon was a rip off and The Hauling Men are very unprofessional. I would never recommend this company to anyone.

Description of Work: Working with this company was a "bait and switch" operation. We bought the $79 coupon to get 1/3 load taken from our basement. On Angie's List, this company's ad reads: "The Hauling Men can remove just about anything you point to in and around your home, office, retail space, rental unit, warehouse, storage unit or job-site. They specialize in the removal of things that traditional garbage companies don't handle such as old furniture, office equipment, boxes, construction debris, yard waste, appliances, automobiles and more. Their service includes all the lifting and loading from wherever the junk is located and they even sweep up! All qualifying items are recycled or donated. No matter the extent of your commercial or residential junk removal needs, the friendly professionals at Hauling Men can help you take back your space in no time! Get a head start on your dreaded spring cleaning with this BIG DEAL from the friendly Hauling Men professionals!" When Andre, the manager of The Hauling Men crew, got here and assessed how much junk we were asking him to remove, he said "This is a $600 job" because the distance from the basement to their truck was sufficiently long that they had to charge extra. We had specifically called ahead of time and described the location of our basement relative to where our driveway is located. At NO TIME did they tell us that there would be an extra charge if there was a "long" distance between the basement and the truck. Note the bold face sentence above does not mention that their charge is dependent on the distance from which they have to move things. When I asked Andre how much junk he could remove for the $79, it was such a small amount that my son and I could have done it in 15-20 minutes. He had three other people on his truck to help. I am quite confident that with 4 people moving our junk from the basement to the truck, it would not have taken more than 30 minutes. I've lived in several other houses, and the distance between our basement and the driveway is not out of the ordinary. Andre told me the $79 would apply to a situation where he could back his truck up to a door leading directly to the basement. How many homes have that type of configuration? When I argued with Andre that his ad stated that they would load junk from wherever the junk is located, he told yes they would - but for the extra charge described above. Why doesn't the company clarify any of this on the phone before coming out if not on the ad? The pressure is added to the situation when they are sitting in your driveway and you have paid the money already and committed the time. Not a good situation. Andre tried to argue that every job is different and that he needed a picture or description of where the junk was located relative to the location of the truck before he did the job. This requirement is not mentioned in their ad above, nor did they mention it to us when we called. If you like dealing with a company that uses "bait and switch" tactics, you should use this company. Otherwise steer clear of them. We rearranged our Saturday schedule so that we could be home when they came and direct them as to what was to be taken. Obviously we were inconvenienced. Andre's way of handling the situation was to say he could give us a refund. He in no way attempted to negotiate a compromise. We feel this company is highly unprofessional and not honest with the customer. We have requested a refund of our $79 which Andre assured us we would receive. Postsript: Andre called two days later to continue to argue his case. He tried to convince me that I was being unreasonable. I told him had I been informed of his requirements by his staff when I called, or had his ad been more specific, I would have been able to make the decision upfront as to whether I wanted to use his services. He told me that he had given refunds to other customers and told them that they would pay more with other companies. He also told me that other companies would charge $1,500 for my job. I guess the fact that he has given refunds to other customers is indicative of the fact that other customers must have experienced what we experienced.

+ -1 moreCalled The Hauling Men to setup a time for pickup. I explained I saw their deal for $79 in Angie's List for 1/3 truck load and explained the items I had including the rocks and paint cans. We setup a time and they arrived in a Uhaul type truck. The driver which I believe was the owner and person who I spoke with since he was receiving calls for services, greeted me. I showed them where the junk was. He then saw the 40-50 paint cans and proceed to tell me that it was going to cost more and the price would be $145 and the rocks would be an additional $165. I'm not a person who doesn't understand reason. The rocks are very heavy and individual pieces and back breaking work. The two issues I have is that he never mention there would be a specific limitation on paint after I mention I had a bunch of paint to throw away on our initial call. The promo said 1/3 of a load not limited to 10 paint cans. Second the additional charge for the rocks even after telling him about having a gazzebo full of them. Again the promot said 1/3 of a load. Granted he may of under estimated the scope of the work but isn't it his job to assess the work. It would be understandable if I failed to mention the paint or the rocks. Perhaps the $79 is just a bait and switch promo. I unfortunately needed the junk removed for another project to start otherwise I would be looking for another company. We settled for $300. Tread lightly when asking for the $79 promo. It seems to me it has special conditions and may change at any time. Perhaps when he saw the nice neighborhood I lived in, he thought he could make a few extra bucks. + -1 moreI contacted The Hauling Men to set up an appointment and they arrived punctually on the date and time scheduled. Andre' and his crew were pleasant, clean, efficient and professional. They quickly removed the items I showed them and loaded those items on the truck. I had a coupon for 1/3 of a truck load, and they managed to load a bath tub, toilet, vanity, old gutters and two carts into that 1/3 of a load. The owner, Andre', and his whole crew were cheerful, polite and anxious to please. I am a Senior Citizen with some physical challenges and I get anxious when strangers come to my home to do work. However, with Andre' and his crew I felt perfectly at ease and confident they were doing the job I needed done. I am completely satisfied with the experience and will call them again when I clean out my garage and basement.

They arrived right on time and quickly got to work. The 'junk' was at the back of my 3/4 acre lot, and they had to carry it all to the front yard where the truck was. The Hauling Men quickly removed and loaded all of the items. I had paid for a coupon for 1/3 of a truck load, and they managed to load a bath tub, toilet, vanity, old gutters and two carts into that 1/3 of a full load. They were done and gone well within 30 minutes. I will certainly call upon them again and will recommend them to my family and friends.
