Shumate Air Conditioning & Heating

We called the company when the A/C unit started to blow just warm air and not cold one. We made the call on Friday and the mechanic came out on Saturday which was good. But the call was transfered 3 times (I'm thinking many sub-contractors this company is using...) before we got to the right "residential" line. The mechanic was professional. He looked at the A/C for about 20 min. and thought it was the capacitor and tried to replace it. Didn't work. So he decided that we need a new fan and fan motor.It would take about a week to get them in and they will come out the install it later. He charged $120 for coming out which he explained that it would be $80 during weekdays but since it was Saturday... My husband asked bout the charge since that he didn't fix anything yet and we did order the new fan and fan mortor for about $800 that we would not be charged for this trip or get some kind of credit against the $800. He said that the Shumate company is in charge of pricing, he doesn't have any authority, and he needs to be paid for "every ticket". So, we are still waiting for the unit to come. They say "free estimate" on the internet. I don't know why we had to pay $120 when they didn't fix anything. And I know most repair companies give you credit for the estimate if you use them to fix/order the repairs. I thought about getting a second opinion on my A/C but hey, it was Saturday and they said it would take a week to get those units. I just didn't want to prolong the process by waiting till Monday or Tuesday at 90 degrees. I'm hoping they wouldn't charge me anything extra when they come out to actually fix the unit and that would be that. Next time, I'm going with a company who doesn't charge just because you are a "big" company.

I called for a service appointment around 10am. They initially told me they could be out between 12pm - 6pm. They called me back within 20 minutes and told me they had a tech in the area and he was on his way. From the time of the initial call until the job was complete it took less than two hours. They did a great job and were very thorough. I would not hesitate to call them again.

Shumate was the far front runner for my hvac. I interviewed 6 companies and Shumate was the most thorough, competitively priced and gave me my gut feeling this was a very professional outfit who wanted my business. My experience with them was wonderful. I deeply researched types of hvac systems and was a bit leery of the Amana system (which is what was installed), but after looking at Shumates warranty, the manufactures warranty and many blogs of professional HVACpeople, I realized this was a good product. Shumate was the only company who took the time to go room to room in my house. The sales rep. was very detailed in his evaluation. My house is a fairly large, rambling, multi level, older place. The great room has never ever been comfortable (soaring ceiling with no insulation), top floor warmer and generally hard to heat and cool. Before the replacement we kept the temperature at 78 and it was just not comfortable. The summer electric bills were in the high $200. to low $300. I now keep it at 76. We have had the hottest June and July on record. My house has never been as comfortable as it is now. The great room is cool, the upstairs is cool, the whole house is cool. I just received my electric bill and my jaw dropped! We thought it was a mistake. It was $169.16! For record breaking heat, lowering the inside temperature, having greater cooler air flow (you can feel the difference in the amount of air it pushes through) I am pleased as punch. Great job Shumate!!

They did a great job and replaced the system in 1 working day of when I received their quote.

Even though I asked in advance if they had experience servicing the unit, before sheduling a service call, the technician they sent had no idea on how to service the unit. While I was not able to be there during the service call, my wife was and she said he could not even get the unit out, After a while he gave up and said the unit had a cracked drain pan and the entire unit needed to be replaced. I then asked them for a qoute to replace the unit. The sales person was slow to give me a qoute and said there was no replacement unit to fit my current opening and proposed a different sized unit where I would have to hire a capenter to refinsih the opening. Not only was the techinician wrong so was the sales person. I hired another HVACcompany that confirmed the drain pain was not cracked...the drain was clogged. I also found a local company that had the correct sized replacement unit for a much lower cost. Shumate should have never charged for their initial service call, as they provided no service. The only saving grace was since their salesman was so slow to responde, it gave me time to find right solution.

VERY PLEASED with the work when the coil and unit were installed the first of March and VERY PLEASED with the quick response in July when we had record high temperatures.

The upstairs A/C (heat pump, 19 years old) went out. The appointment was easy to schedule. The technician found that the unit had grounded out. Due to the age of the system, I elected to replace it. The work was done the next day. The techs were on time, very friendly; answered all of my questions. They did an excellent job and cleaned up after themselves. They also inspected the downstairs unit (which they had replaced a couple of years ago). The next day, I found that the downstairs unit was not cooling. They came back right away and found that they had inadvertently left the switch "off". They did not charge for this. Both systems have been working fine since then. As I said, I had Shumate replace the downstairs heat pump system a few years ago. I had the same good experience that time - arrived on time, did a good job, cleaned up after themselves. Their price was about 20% less that the other quotes I received.

Based on reviews, I selected this company as I was having issues with my air conditioning. I was also aware that this company advertises extensively in the Atlanta area about their responsiveness. The owner is on the radio stating that her customers "will not wait". I was rather surprised then to get an answering machine when I called. I would even have been OK with being put on hold. Instead I was told by a recording to leave my name and number and they would call me back. Evidently this would be at their convenience rather than mine. I moved on to another company on Angie's list.

I've been happy with them. My air conditioning was giving problem so they added coolant and replaced a couple of parts. They were very professional. They always called me and let me know when they are going to come so that I can come home from work and be here with them. They were very customer service oriented and very patient. They told me what they were doing. We have a contract with them and they come every six months to check if everything is working right.

They came and replaced the control panel the same day that I called them, which was on a Saturday. They're the best company that I've dealt with. They came out the next week and did routine maintenance, which involved cleaning out the condensor pump. The company that I'd had service my HVAC unit before had never cleaned that out. Shumate's technician gave me some great advice on maintaining my unit, too. Their prices were more affordable than other companies I have used in the past. They assign a specific service agent to an area, so you get consistent service with the same service team, which I really appreciate.

They're a big company. The service was excellent. It was prompt service. They could have ripped us off because we weren't sure what was wrong, but they didn't. He went out and showed us exactly what was wrong.

Took advantage of the local utility's coupon voucher to get $50 off an HVAC Tune-up. Selected Shumate from list of Utility's authorized contractors to perform the work. Called and requested service and notified of use of utility company voucher. I was informed that the tune-up cost was $79 per unit, and that the voucher only covered 1 of my 2 units. Ok. Visit was scheduled 2 weeks out and between 12-6p. On scheduled day, technician called ahead and showed up around 4pm. He stated up front that he needed the voucher and tune-up checklist (provided by utility) in order for the voucher to be valid. No problem. Tech than proceeded to describe that the services only really included an inspection of the system per the checklist, and that if any repairs or maintenance were actually needed, that would cost more, and did I plan on signing up a maintenance contract? I said no, and that I was expecting a Tune-Up of the system and whatever that entailed. If additional work was needed, I would be willing to discuss. Also learned at this point that the service only included the A/C units, and not the Heating units. I'm irritated now, I tell him, since my understanding is that the "H" in HVAC tune-up stands for Heating. He chuckles. He proceeds to "inspect" the 2 a/c units, then tells me that 1 is working but needs some repairs (he was specific about what it needed, but it was all very technical jargon), and the other one can't be inspected because a refrigerant leak had caused the system to freeze up, and that he'll need to come back on that one. He says he disconnected that one so no further harm is done. That one is essentially broken and will need repairs too once they can inspect it. I say okay, when can we reschedule? He says scheduling is handled by the office and that he'll call them and have someone call us back shortly to schedule the follow up for either later in the week or the following week. I pay for the 1 inspection, net of the utility voucher, and he leaves. Never heard from them to schedule the follow-up; one of my a/c systems is apparently broken (and disconnected), and it's now early May in GA. I'm not out of pocket any significant dollars, but have essentially been left in the lurch, and now have to contact another provider, take another day off work, and pay another "just to show up" fee. Overall Terrible Experience.

I originally had a maintenance agreement with them, that I had for a few months. I went to cancel it and asked if I would get a refund and they said that I would. They never sent me the refund and no matter how much I tried to contact them, they never would respond or send me my refund. One of the guys even did some air duct cleaning for me on the side, and he hooked up a machine and he left the machine there for 2 hours and it screwed up and made a lot of noise. I ended up calling the office, and they said he was doing this on the side, and that's how I found out he wasn't suppose to be doing it in the first place. He ended up calling me back and threatening me because I could have caused him to loose his job. Prior to this I had some decent experiences with them - nothing great, but they were ok.

We have been using them for twenty years. They do nothing but quality work.

The entire process was extremely simple. I used Angie's List to research several A/C repair company's and chose Shumate. Shumate came to my house the next day and repaired my A/C unit in less than an hour. The employee answered all my questions and was nice, yet professional. I even signed up for a warrenty that will save me money since my system is older and I end up calling someone 1-2 times a year.

Our AC stopped cooling just in time for the warm weather. I searched for a company with a good reputation and online scheduling, as it was late at night. Shumate had an easy, user-friendly website with online scheduling. They called first thing the next morning and were able to move up the appointment to an earlier time slot. They called 30 minutes before arrival, arrived exactly at the beginning of the service window, and sent a professional and experienced repair person. He diagnosed the problem within a few minutes and even cleaned our filter. He had the part we needed in his truck, so there was no waiting for a fix. I would definitely recommend and use Shumate again!

The service I received was good--I especially liked how quickly they came out after I called, only an hour or two later. However, I was disappointed by the high price of the refrigerant. If I had known what the problem was, I would've gone with someone else who charges less for refrigerant.

The response time was good, and the technician was very friendly. On both of the outside compressor units, the compressor fan was not running. He showed us that the fan was sticking - he could turn it by hand, but it tended to stick. Due to the age of the units (12 years), the technician recommended that new A/C units (and possibly new furnace units) would be best. So the advisor came out later to give an estimate on new units. We decided to get a second estimate. The second company came out and noticed that the breaker for one of the outside units was off (!). The second one was running (I guess because the Shumate guy had unstuck the fan). One unit needed refrigerant, but the other was fine. I'm disappointed that the Shumate tech did not notice that the breaker was off, and did not check to see if refrigerant might solve the problem. I realize that, with the age of the units, at some point soon we will probably need to replace them. But he didn't give us the option of doing a short-term repair - just the need to purchase an entirely new system.

They are excellent. They found a problem when they were last here for the annual air conditioning maintenance and they fixed the problem. My experience with them has been excellent. The people that they send are always extremely polite. They clear up after themselves and they never make a mess in the process. They are like a bunch of guys and they get on with their job. You don’t have to order or see them or anything. They know the job they got to do and they just get on with it. The other thing that I think is good is that they divide their work into teams and you always get the same team to do the work on your house. You are not going to sit with the same person, but you get a person within the same team; so you get familiar installation, what is required and they do what they have to do. The way they do that is that they talk to each other about a particular installation. When they get a new member for the team, the person is not a new member for them, but that person is just a new member for the team.

I found Shumate Cooling and Heating on Angie's List. They did a great job replacing equipment on our air conditioning unit. They replaced the air conditioning compressor outside and the coil inside. I had a good experience with this company. They were professional and prompt. I will use them again in the future if needs arise.

Good. The service took longer than I had hoped but the tech was very thorough. Had trouble loading data in his hand held computer. The air conditioner in the companies truck was not working. Not good advertisement for an air conditioning company!

I used them because they had a good Angie’s List rating. I certainly would use them again in the future.

We discovered that the heat wasn't coming on. We found Shumate via Angie's List and hey were able to send a technician out the next morning, he was able to survey the situation immediately. He got the part needed and made the repair - all before lunch!

Furnace would not come on. Consulted Angies List and found a company in my area that was highly rated by other customers. Called at 8A.M. and was told I'd have someone there mid to late morning. The technician showed up when promised, checked a few things, found a defective switch and replaced it. Because I had an Angies List coupon, the repair was free, just had to pay for the service call. The next time I need furnace or AC work, I will call Shumate Mechanical.
