Shumate Air Conditioning & Heating

Clint initially determined that we had a leak somewhere in the system. It turned out to be the coil in the air conditioner. He advised that the part would have to be ordered and would take about a week to arrive. We were very thankful that Clint made sure we had enough refrigerant to keep us comfortable, until the part arrived. When the part arrived, William from Shumate called to let us know it could be installed the next day. Clint arrived with the part and went to work. Needless to say we are very happy with the job. A little research on the Internet showed the price was fair and the $50,00 coupon on Angie's list was very helpful. We highly recommend Sumate because of their professionalism, courtesy and prompt service.

It went well. They found the problem why A/C wasn't working and fixed it. They gave me a quote for a brand new A/C but I couldn't afford it at that time. They did a great job and very informative.

Technician diagnosed the problem within about one minute of walking in the door. It was an easy fix, but I never would have figured it out in a million years.

Checked both AC units. One unit worked for 1 day and stopped the following day. I called customer service and they advised me it would cost an additional $79 for service and there would be no openings until July. Essentially I paid $219 and I am in the same position I was prior to the service call on 6/10/2013, neither units are working.

Our AC stopped cooling and Shumate was one of three companies we contacted for repair. The cost of the Service call was more than double what the other two companies had quoted and they said they did not repair old units. They also would not be able to come out until Tuesday (we called on Saturday). We declined service because the initial cost was so much higher. I did like that you could request service thru their website & they did call within an hour of the request.

I cancelled the coupon because we need quicker service and a company that responds to their customers.

Company and technician were professional and easy to engage. Timely service but on the pricey side.

IT WENT GREAT...EVERYTHING WAS CHECKED OUT AND NO PROBLEMS FOUND AND NO FREON HAD TO BE ADDED TO MY AC.

We'd had the floors re-finished last week and got a call one day that the house wasn't cooling properly. Ran over that evening, and couldn't find any breakers tripped. We have Nest thermostats, so tried to adjust things over the internet...the message was getting through, and the furnace/blowers were running, but it didn't look the AC fans outside were spinning. On Thursday, everything appeared to be okay. By Friday afternoon though, it became clear that NEITHER of the AC units was actually working - air was blowing through the vents, but it wasn't cool. Called Shumate on Friday at about 4:30pm, hoped they'd be able to get out that day but no dice. Would come over late Saturday morning/early afternoon. I was pleasantly surprised that he was over mid-morning. Explained the situation to technician, and all the things I'd already tried (flipping breakers, resetting Nests, etc.), and he agreed that it was a little odd that both units stopped spinning. He gave the condensate pump a little kick...and the AC unit started. I joked that I was going to call him the Fonz. Upstairs unit still not spinning though. He went outside, took off the cover and tested the electrical on the AC unit - it was getting the low voltage signal to come on, but no power. He flipped the breakers, no effect. Then he yanked the breaker out and flipped it four or five times...and this time it worked. Yup, Kenneth was definitely the Fonz. "The Fonz" (aka Kenneth) was a great guy. Very professional, and walked me through everything, including what to do if it all happened again. We talked about some other questions about our AC system and what we'd have to do to replace things, including a VERY rough estimate of what kind of price we might be looking at. I'll continue to use Shumate for any other AC/furnace issues we have - my only "complaint" is that ~$120 seems a little steep for the service call to come and take a look, and we were only charged a little extra (about $10) for the work he did. In the end though, the units are working and I know what to do next time.

I was really impressed with the professionalism and willingness to take those extra steps in getting the unit up to the attic and saving us money. They had no extra charge for this at all. They were respectful by laying down canvas and cleaned up everything when they were done. The unit they sold us was difficult to find filters for and they gave us an entire year supply at no cost. After a couple months they called me to make sure everything was running properly and went ahead a sent a technician out to check everything. They replaced a fan motor while they were there at no extra charge. I highly recommend them.

The office lost or messed-up my appointment date. I'd already waited six weeks to have 3 HVAC units tuned-up after paying in full the day I scheduled. The day of the appointment they didn't show, so I called. They said my appointment wasn't scheduled until the NEXT month. When I pointed out the date of my payment, and how I certainly didn't agree to wait 10 WEEKS for pre-paid service, they acknowledged they'd made a mistake. Yet I'd have to wait another 2 weeks before they could fit me in. No way, no how sooner. I agreed. But the inconvenience was already driving me crazy and their new date would conflict with a trip I'd planned. So in about 20 minutes, after I found another company that was rated just as highly with as good a deal and no pre-payment required, I canceled with Shumate and asked for my refund. I talked to 3 different, very pleasant-sounding office people and still haven't had my calls or my money returned. That was 5 business days ago. They've held my $195.00 for 49 calendar days. The technicians may be good but the office staff blew this one.

Looked like he did what they'd promised within the parameters of the "deal." Told me the price I got through Angie's List was cheaper than what people who have contracts with them have to pay for this particular service. Hope to get it done again next year.

Technician was named Brian Richardson; he was very pleasant and happy to explain what he'd checked and what needed to be done. He explained that the repairs didn't need to be done immediately, but would be necessary at some point in the not too distant future. We discussed the pros/cons of a service contract; since I believe in preventive maintenance I decided to purchase the contract which provides for one more visit, in the fall.

My previous Lenox air conditioner, 9 years old, developed a leak that could not be fixed,or it would not be cost effective to fix. I replaced it with another Lenox. I stayed with the same brand because the warranty is now for 10 years, previously the warranties were for 5 years. After my semi annual service call and the disappointing diagnosis they had a sales representative out the next day ( d swift Taylor) and the air conditioner was delivered for installation the next day. The installer Isaisas Ojeda arrived on time, was very pleasant and professional. The service tech that did the original diagnosis and delivered the bad news, James Dennis, also arrived on time, was pleasant and professional. He took the time to give me options, show me where the leak was and explain the situation. As disappointed as I was to need to replace the air conditioner Shumate made it a positive experience.

The service turned out well. It took them a little while to make the appointment as they are not in my area very often. They arrived on time and did a good job with the work.

The service has been great. I have used them for the last 15 years. They are always very professional. They put in a new tankless water heater a couple of years ago. They always do a good job.

The service has been absolutely outstanding. The price is competitive. They are prompt, do what they say, and they show up on time. The technicians are very professional, courteous, and knowledgeable.

The work had to be redone as they installed a thermo regulation tank that was too small. They did not have cut off valves for the hot water. I had another plumbing company come to fix the work. They primarily work on heating and air conditioning and they told me they could do the water heater and that service did not turn out well.

Our upstairs furnace had never kept up on warm days and our favorite HVAC service company had said the downstairs unit was no longer able to hold a charge and needed to be replaced. So, I got three competitive quotes: two from highly rated HVAC companies on Angie?s List and one from our existing HVAC service company. All three came to the house and reviewed the same system. Shaun Hoover at Shumate was the most thorough on the review and caught a couple of things the others didn?t. I am a little unusual because I have done some of the repair work on the electronics myself. Shaun answered my technical questions about the system without hesitation and what?s more educated me on how the new dual stage furnaces work. I didn?t feel like I was getting a sales job. When the quotes came back, our HVAC service company was significantly more than the other two. I really wanted to use our existing service company because I had some recent very positive experiences with them, so I called the owner and explained the difference in pricing. His response was, ?I don?t know who you got that quote from, but those guys are going to go out of business at those prices. I can?t compete.? I explained that both others bid were similar. He said, ?You should use those guys for everything, because if they install it, they should service it.? I called Shumate and gave them the job. The crew arrived within 10 minutes of the appointed time. There were three men, a crew leader who I mostly interacted with and two others. (All three answered questions patiently.) They introduced themselves and immediately got to work. It was clear that they hada plan. Each person took on a separate task. They always wore protective booties when in our house. They answered my questions along the way. At one point, I was convinced that they had the two outside units reversed, because what should have been the 4 ton condenser was smaller than what should have been the 2.5 ton condenser. They patiently assured me that the units were configured differently and they had it right, even after I badgered them. They said they would double-check. They were, of course, right. They also added a heat-shield to a plastic pipe that I thought might melt. This was done without any hesitation on their part. Shaun Hoover (the estimator) dropped by mid-morning to make sure the crew was meeting my expectations and to drop off a dual return vent that they forgot. Both units were replaced and working by mid-afternoon. They cleaned up and left. Both units have been working flawlessly since they left and put out the coldest air my furnace has ever produced. My only complaint was that they left muddy footprints in my furnace room and on our step stool that we had for reaching things inside the house. Otherwise, they did a good job of cleaning up and removing debris and left everything tidy. I would definitely use them again. We plan to take up the other HVAC service company?s advice to use Shumate for service in the future.

All services are performed with personal care and precise technical methods. Same technician at each visit for last 6 years. Extremely pleased with this company.

The service has gone very well. They are very knowledgeable. They always call me ahead of time as I have an office about 10 minutes from my home. They are very accommodating.

The service has always been excellent. They are dependable and on time. I did purchase a new heating and air system through another company and use that companies maintenance plan for that system.
