Shumate Air Conditioning & Heating

After reading some of the reviews, I was a little concerned having Shumate perform the tune-up on my heating/cooling systems but I had pre-paid for the service and decided not to cancel the appointment with them. I have to say I'm glad I didn't. The service technician was on time which is very important to me. Even though he was not very experienced at accepting the Angie's List coupons he contacted the company for instructions and didn't make a big deal out of it. Some of the feedback on the forum suggested the company did not perform all the services they promise; that was not my experience. The technician completed every task identified on the coupon. He changed the batteries in the thermostats and checked their function. He did a thorough check on the air handlers and changed the filters. Then he went to service the outside units. After discovering the units were a little low on freon, he confirmed whether or not I wanted to have them charged after informing me of the additional cost. He ended with cleaning the unit's grills. Throughout the service call the technician explained everything he was doing. My experience with Shumate was positive; I will recommend and use them in the future.

They service was just fine. They have good customer service and I had no complaints with them at all. They were very nice people.

Everything was done great. The technician was very thorough and took his time.

Shumate was called they responded quickly, when the tech. showed up he looked at the problem and then gave me two options. One, cut a little larger hole in the siding grab the pipe make a clean cut to attach a new one; around 200.00. Option two, install a condinsation (although he called it a condensate) pump and eliminate the water run off from the air conditionar all together......400.00. He returned to say he could not attach a new pipe because of the mastik was cemented on and that the contractor had applied all over the pipe and he did not know how far up it went. HUH, not surprised the more expensive option now became the only answer. As a single woman in a male dominated industry and the reputation this industry has made for itself i felt as though i had been bated and switched, and i told him so. He said if you would like to come out and i can show you. I did seemed a reasonable expectation. My neighbor who has done pluming work and looked at it before; offered to repair it, but i did not want to impose came and looked at it again and said there was NO mastik on this before and he peeled it right off. He took 5 minutes, peeled away the mastik cut a clean edge, with an elbow repaired the pipe!

Technician was very professional and knowledable about system. Flushed line which was causing the system to stop cooling and explained the process to me so I know what had happened.

This is for a rental property. Great communication and punctuality. We handled everything over the phone. My renter is happy. The AC is repaired. I used the $50 off coupon from Angie's List over the phone. It was accepted no questions asked.

I purchased a coupon on Angie's List for an AC tune up/inspection. I purchased my house a year ago and this was my first AC tune up. I chose Shumate because they had serviced the unit for the prior owners. When I called to schedule the inspection, I was told their first available time was a week from Monday, in the afternoon. A few days after booking that time, I got a call from Shumate asking when I wanted to schedule the inspection--apparently the first appointment never made it into their system. Then I was told they could schedule an appointment for the next Wednesday--three days earlier than my first appointment. That appointment was scheduled for the afternoon, but they called that morning and said they could be at my house in 30 minutes if I wanted, so I agreed. I came home from work to wait for the technician, and he did not arrive until almost an hour after the first call. Once the technician arrived, he was friendly and professional. He explained what he was doing and answered all my questions.

It was good. We had used them before and they did good work so we called them back again. They point out what they think needs to be done in the future but they don't harass us about it. They recommend and offer the maintenance plans they have and leave it at that. They did that long ago and we decided to take advantage of it now. They are prompt and reliable.

Excellent service - part needed was under warranty - worked closely with me on status of order of the part, and as soon as they got it, they came out to house same day - AC working great since then. I worked with technician, parts manager, and accounts receivable - ALL provided a level of service I did not expect, nor was used to. I wished they did everything, not just HVAC - I would hire them for everything!!!

Great Temporary fix that worked until part received

The process from beginning to end was very detailed and professional. This job to replace two heating and air conditioning units as well as install a tank-less water heater was bid on by multiple companies. The choice to use Shumate Air Conditioning & Heating was based on more than solely price as most of the companies were within a few hundred dollars in the quoting process. Overall it was the very comfortable and knowledgeable quoting experience that assisted in the choice, with the install process being just as professional and detailed. These gentleman were respectful of the home and allowed for my wife and myself to be apart of the install process from validating the equipment to be installed before it was pulled of the truck, allowing input and in-depth conversations surrounding the tank-less water heater placement, and finishing with a walk through of the work spaces to ensure the clean-up was satisfactory and a tutorial on the new units functionality include future service process requirements were understood. Extremely please with the entire process!

We returned home from vacation to a house over 90 degrees hot! Called Shumate (discovered them here, they've done work on our heater before) and they were out by noon on the same day! So thankful for that. Relieved that it was a simple fix, wish it hadn't been quite so expensive. Part cost $18. retail and took about 10 minutes to replace - our cost was $171. plus the $79. service call charge. Lucky to have an Angie's List coupon!

My experience with Shumate Air Conditioning & Heating turned out good. I love the the worker did. The customer service people that I've talked to, I wasn't too happy with them. They gave me a time they were supposed to come out, they showed up almost two hours late. Then when he came, they couldn't work on it then. My furnace was frozen and they had to wait 24 hours to work on it so it would thaw out. They told me they'd be back the next day. It was a Saturday and nobody showed up and nobody called me. When I called them, he gave me like a nonchalant like, "I don't care." "There's nothing I can do about it. Wait until Monday. So I had to go the whole weekend without air conditioning and it was smoldering heat that weekend. That's the only bad thing I could say. The customer service was bad. But the guy that came out, he did a good job. This was the first time I used them. I was very upset how they handled them not coming out that day. That kind of overshadows the good work he did.

I called Shumate because they offered $50 coupon to Angie's List members. They promptly took the call and arrived within hours and resolved the problem by repairing my thermostat. It turned out the repair was to replace the batteries and making sure the batteries were seated correctly. I appreciated their prompt service and they fixed my AC quickly. However, they refused to honor their $50 coupon. They gave a lame excuse that it was not a repair. As far as I am concerened, they repaired my thermostat and fixed the AC. I won't use them again since they did not honor the coupon.

The tech was very professional and patient....have used them before and had the same experience.

Technician arrived promtly and commenced working. He suggested one replacement part at a preemptive measure for $147.00 so I took him up on the offer. HVAC is working much better, cooling the house much faster and my utility bill is running approximately 2/3 of the monthly bills over the prior few years. Great job!

It was an Angie's List Big Deal that I purchased. It was actually just okay. Probably a little bit less than perfect. When we originally bought the coupon, I did call the office to schedule the visit and I specifically told them what we were dealing with. When the technician came out a few days later, he wasn't prepared to do the work. He basically said that the appointment has just been set up as a regular maintenance appointment and not a repair appointment. So we then had to reschedule for the following week to do a repair appointment. The guy came out and he seemed a little too comfortable on our house and it was a little bit awkward to the point where if we had more time, we might have even called Shumate and told him that. He made himself at home in our house, he didn't take his shoes off or put in any covers over his shoes. He didn't offer to do that. Then he would just kinda pull up a chair and he was just real chatty with me and my husband. We had a teenager here. It just was almost a very uncomfortable kind of feeling, a little creepy. This is possibly unrelated but there was a key to our basement door that went missing and the last we knew of it was that he had it. So along with the creepiness factor, we just decided to change the lock. We don't know, it could have been completely unrelated, we never did find the key. He could have put it back somewhere and it wasn't that big of a deal but along with the creepiness factor, we just decided it would probably be worthwhile. He did the work and what he needed to do, it just did not seem professional to us. I would not call Shumate again if I knew that that guy was coming out. The first guy, even though the appointment got screwed up, totally different feel. Very professional. It's very different as night and day. There were no major issues and I felt like that the maintenance fee was a little high.

Scheduled an appointment with the RSD Office Manager for July 5th, 8-12 PM. I took off work that day for this. No one showed but since it was raining all day, I waited until 1:30 PM to call in case they were running later. I called Shumate, they had my address to my old home but my wife was there an no one came. Shumate said they could have a tech over b/w 3-6 PM. Around 5 PM Shumate called and confirmed someone was coming. I waited until 6:15 PM called, their office was closed. I waited until 6:30 PM and no one came. What a complete waste of my time. Comcast has a 2 hour window. Extremely disappointed with Shumate. Sandy Shumate should be ashamed of herself. I've read many reviews online with with their punctuality and no shows. 5- 6 hour window is unrealistic for customers, that is poor customer service and the owner should know that.

After reviewing companies on Angie's List, I called Shumate about 10:20 AM on a Saturday; staff was friendly and helpful, explained it would probably be after noon, but someone would call 30 minutes in advance. Technician (Greg) called an hour later and was here before noon. He introduced himself, was very friendly, professional, went right to work. Inspected the indoor cooling unit and immediately identified that the drain line was blocked. Cut the pipe, blew out the clog, then resealed the pipe but created an access port for me to flush the drain line every so often with bleach (he spent a few minutes explaining this to me). He then used a shop vac to suck up the water sitting in the bottom of the unit, restarted it to be sure it was working properly, then reattached the cover. Cleaned up the floor, then went to his truck to prepare the bill. I appreciate Angie's $50 discount coupon! Total time on job was about 35 minutes. I will definitely use them again and recommend them to my friends. Thanks Angie for the great referral!

I called Shumate to schedule service under our contract. The scheduler was responsive to my constraints and scheduled the service when convenient for me (with 1 hour "window" for when tech. would arrive). Technician called and then arrived within the hour specified. He was professional, neatly dressed and polite. Service on the two units took approximately one hour and a half. he appeared to do a very thorough job and included cleaning the outside unit and coils (which our former HVAC contractor offered for an extra $80 charge!). He made sure that everything was working properly before he left and offered to renew our service contract for another year, which I accepted and he was able to run my credit card and send me an email receipt. First class service!

Overall very happy with service. Technician was friendly and thorough. We were selling home and asked by the purchaser to have both units serviced. I used an Angie's List coupon ($65/unit) for servicing. They held to the coupon price with no gimmicks. One of the units needed some refrigerant - the price of $40 seemed reasonable. I would definitely use this proivider in the future. One improvement I might request is a smaller "window"' of service time - I was told tech would visit between 12-6pm. This seemed excessive to me.

Did not like the initial review oa the ac system. I was told I needed an ac and heating unit......I ally need the ac and I knew this. Because or another estimate....the price was right ?...the installers were good...
