The technician entered my home and asked me what the issue was. I described the sitatuion. The blower motor was making an unusally loud and grinding noise and abruptly shutting off even in the FAN ON position. I had turned the unit off at 5am when I heard the fan cycling on and off loudly. He went to the thermastat and flipped the switch to FAN ON and the fan came on. He then looked at me and said "Well it's on now." I told him to wait a few seconds and then the griding started and the fan abruptly shut itself off. Then he started talking about how old the unit was ( 11 years) and that they don't last forever.. and I realized the big "Sell" was about to begin. I showed him where the unit was in the basement and he took off the covering and started his diagnosis. He put an ohm meter on the capacitor and pronounced it LOW, but not low enough to not be able to turn on the motor. Then he removed the motor from its bolted down location but never removed it from its housing. He stated the blower motor needed to be replaced, which by the sound it was making, seemed appropriate. He mentioned the AprilAire 500 electrostatic air filter I had and told me there was something "much better" I should have. Sell number 2. He could not explain what his "new" device did that was substantially different from my aprilaire ( which I love). He talked down to me, as if I was incapable of comprehending simple english. I probably should have stated that I am an process engineer - a female process engineer. He then went to the truck to call about the blower motor. I noted the blower motor part number and capacitor part number and googled the part to get an idea of the price online. I expect a small markup on parts. The blower motor part on line was $163.00, and the capacitor was $13.00. The tech came back and said the motor was well over $500 and the capacitor was $101 and then they wanted $91.00 to go pick the motor up. He said there were only 2 of these motors in the state and it was located in Kennasaw, hence the extra charge. The other option he said was to fed ex it overnight and pay the fed ex charge. I showed him the part I researched online and printed for 163 shipped free, and he said it was not the same part. I showed him the part number on the unit on the floor and it was an exact match in number and brand to the part on paper, and I asked why he thought it was not the same. He had no answer. Then he stated he did not have control over the prices, he was just telling what they charge for it. There was also a 89 dollar diagnostic fee. I had a 25 dollar coupon from the web site, but he would not accept it. All in all I felt there markup was extremely excessive, and their technician was demeaning and rude when I questioned him. Obviously I did not have them complete the work. The total bill for repair would have been over 800 dollars for a 173 dollars of parts and 1/2 hour of installation.
Description of Work: The technician opened the furnace and ran a test on the capacitor and blower motor. He stated the capacitor was low and the blower motor windings were worn out and the that the motor needed to be replaced. The horsepower on the motor was 1HP and he did not have this part on his truck. He made some calls to find out where they could obtain the part.

I have had a service contract with them where they come regularly but the guy that installed our air cleaner screwed up. They cut the width of the duct work by incorrectly installing it. My system was not getting the correct volume of air. Men from another company about fifteen seconds each to come to that conclusion. Peachtree admitted it was wrong and subsequently came out to fix it at no cost. However, I did have my system at lower efficiency because of that for a year. I can't say they are not responsive but I am disappointed in their original work and the fact they had people looking at it for two years and did not see it. It kind of makes me think they had known. Their price was %50 more. It was $15000 instead of $10000 to replace my system. It is only the most recent work that was substandard.
Description of Work: Twenty years ago they installed the system I have. Two years ago they added a steam humidifier and changed electric static air cleaner with a filter based air cleaner.

This was a debacle. Heating in our house went out. We called in the morning and were told that all the appointments for the next 72 hours had just filled up, but that we could call back that afternoon between 4-5p and they would be able to schedule "on-call" people who could come out that night (at a cost of $84 to show up). We called back at 4pm and were told that yes, they would send someone out that evening. About 30 minutes later we got a call from Peachtree stating that the individual who had scheduled our service call was mistaken, and no one could come out that evening. After some discussion, they said they would send someone out the next morning between 8-10am, but we were told to call before 8am to ensure that we were "on the list." We called at 7:45am and were told that yes, we were on the list and someone would come out between 8-10am and they would call first. By 11:30am no one had shown up nor called. We called to find out what was going on. We were told they couldn't find the technician, but they would reach him and he would call within 30 minutes, but if he hadn't called, we should call back. Forty-five minutes later (with still no call or serviceman) we called back. We were told he was on a call that was taking longer than anticipated (however, no one at Peachtree had ever called to let us know). We asked Peachtree to tell us within the next 10 minutes if we could expect someone and when. After 10 minutes passed, still with no response, we cancelled.

The comfort specialist (I get a kick out of that every time I hear it) came and reviewed our system to give me a quote. She was the only one who had to walk off each room, which seemed like she knew less of what she was doing than the other folks who quoted me. But she was very knowledgeable about her products and able to answer my questions. After I had selected another vendor she called to follow up. I told her I had awarded the contract to another vendor and that she was $2000 high. To which she asked for specifics on price and model number. I gave her the model number, but not the exact pricing. She persisted, so I told her to get off the phone, but she then tried to underbid the other vendor. I've been in commercial construction, and used to do this kind of thing on purpose to get a better price; I cannot stand it now. I'll do it for products, but not services, since you generally don't get the service you want this way. Give me your best price the first time. She continued to hound me and couldn't understand this principle. At one point she said, "I really can't understand what I did wrong."

Each time the techs come out for the contract, they make many recommendations. Usually these require a lot of work and expense. You must be very wary because lots of these suggestions are unwarranted and unnecessary, even incorrect. We've been told we need to move our units from beneath the deck and relocate to another area... but a second opinion disputed this. We've been told we needed to replace a pan under one unit because it was leaking when it wasn't. (There was an oil stain several feet from the unit that he pointed out as water damage.) We were told our condensation pumps were rusted and needed replacement, even though they are plastic and rust-proof. (The rust-color in the water is from fungus. A fungicide once per season takes care of the problem.) We were told we needed to replace the dual capacitor in every unit or they would run poorly in the summer. We replaced one, but not all. The upstairs unit did not seem to cool well this summer and I began to think the tech was correct. Then I went into the attic last week and realized a cap was missing on a PVC pipe at the top of the unit, and as a result most of the cool air was being pumped into the attic rather than into the vents. How did our serviceman "miss" this when it was at eye level in front of the unit? I bought a .98 cap at the hardware store, plugged the hole, and our unit is suddenly cooling the upstairs beautifully... Hmmmm.... I just get the gut feeling they are using the service contracts to churn out unnecessary repairs and upgrades. I won't renew the contract this year because I don't think I can trust them to be honest, or to ONLY do what is really necessary. On a positive note, the technicians are always courteous and prompt.
Description of Work: We have a service contract. Technicians usually replace filters and make adjustments and recommendations. Recently, coolant was added and a dual capacitor replaced in one unit.

Not well - I was not pleased with the serviceman's attitude nor the fact that my instincts were telling me that he was wrong. I am no expert, by any means, but I've dealt with enough service people in my lifetime to know when I've been snowballed. I'm glad that I called another company for a second opinion.
Description of Work: Air conditioner not working. Serviceman replaced coolant and told me that my coil was bad and would have to be replaced at a cost of approximately $1700. I called another service company because I had a suspicion that the diagnosis was incorrect (my unit was only 6 years old). Second opinion confirmed my gut feeling - the coil was not bad. It was only the connectors that needed to be tightened and/or replaced. Second serviceman was much more thorough and conscientious about checking all parts of the unit.
