We recently had the pleasure of working with Steve of AKME Waterproofing & Sealants to repair a crack in our basement wall. After interviewing several waterproofing companies, we finally met Steve and instantly knew that this was the company we wanted to use. Steve took the time to explain to my husband and I what the problem was and how he planned to remedy the situation. I had other vendors who wanted to do way more than was necessary to solve the issue and appreciated the professionalism and honesty of Steve. I felt that he was more interested in building a client relationship for the long haul and not one that was strictly transactional and for the moment. We had been so overwhelmed by damage caused by water intrusion in our basement and crawlspace that we were just about ready to throw in the towel. Besides the miraculous feat of solving our water problem, Steve and his team also installed a beautiful vapor barrier throughout the crawl space that is as pristine as a palace dinner table. Our basement and crawlspace had never been this flawless. It’s truly remarkable how our home has been transformed, and all for a surprisingly manageable price. One of the biggest pains of being a homeowner is find the write person/company to do a given job. Please take my advice and hire AKME for your waterproofing needs. They are definitely the right company. Let me start by telling you my water issue story. It started by noticing standing water in our crawlspace this summer. That is when I started trying to figure out where the water was coming from. We cleaned the gutters thinking that may have been the problem. It wasn't but I noticed a clogged drain pipe that comes off one of the down spouts. It was caused by a termite bait that was driven through the unseen drain. I replaced the drain but was still getting water in the crawlspace. I was done filling up trashcans with water and dumping them outside the crawlspace. So, I started looking on line. I read a few reviews of AKME and stopped looking for other companies. I called AKME and Steve came out soon after I called. After meeting Steve, I thought for sure that we had the right company. We scheduled the work to be done. That is when I met George and his crew. They were very friendly, kept an extremely clean work space (doing crawlspace work isn't exactly a clean work environment), and did a fantastic job. We are starting a major renovation of our very large basement in a 1960's ranch house. The first step was to seal it against the water that has always come in during big storms. I called Steve because I liked the tone of the online review--someone thoughtful and honest, who wouldn't try to oversell. And I called one of the big companies, doing due diligence. True to form, the latter sent a salesman who took measurements, talked at us, quickly decided what we should do, whipped up a round number quote, and tried to close the deal. Steve, on the other hand, came over very promptly, talked WITH us, not at us, explained all the different options, called George (his crew master) about some potentially complicating issues, and promised a detailed quote in a few days, which he delivered on. He was up front about the possibilities of us finding complications when the paneling came down, but never put on a hard sell. Steve and his assistant Bear installed straps on the cracked cinderblocks, and George's crew did demolition and installed the drain system and sump pump. I had no complaints at all--in fact I have asked if they would do some additional concrete floor work for me. Steve strikes me as a really good guy, making a living running a small business that does quality work. He probably doesn't charge the absolutely cheapest price, but he charges a very fair price and one that is fully thought through and explained.

Steve scheduled an inspection and a consultation soon after my written request. My crawlspace had been, chronically, damp. Rainwater stood against the outside of the home. Steve inspected the crawlspace and took photos of it. He provided me with a clear, concise explanation of the problems of the crawlspace and suggested remedies to solve those problems. He, generously, answered questions that provided me with clarity. AKME did an outstanding job. They cleaned up the crawlspace and installed a French drain and a sump pump. On the outside of the house, they installed a PVC pipe to extend the downspouts. They started the work on time, were respectful of my property, left their work area clean and neat, and completed the job ahead of schedule. AKME is a wonderful company of knowledgeable, hardworking, honest, people. I am very much satisfied with the work they did in the crawlspace and on the downspout's extensions. I will hire them for future projects. I would, highly, recommend them. Their work and character are exceptional.

AKME is awesome! I am not easy to please, but Steve Terjung, owner, and his AKME Sealants crew were outstanding in every way. Steve Terjung promptly responded to my request for a "diagnosis" of my chronically wet crawlspace (even calling me over the weekend while he was away), provided a detailed explanation of all options and his proposed solution, provided a "spot on" estimate, and his crew did an exceptionally professional job installing a needed interior drain, sump pump, and vapor barrier. I give AKME Sealants and Steve a 10/10. I wish every contractor I needed was 1/2 as good as them.

Steve Terjung, owner of AKME Waterproofing & Sealants, and George, work foreman, and the crew, provided excellent service in many ways. From the start of the process to the end. And our process took quite a while as we were not ready to perform this work for quite some time after our first contact with Mr. Terjung. I called Steve and asked him to come estimate a water proofing job in our basement, and then I went silent as we were not ready to perform the work. Steve walked a good balance in that he checked in every now and again, but did not make us feel in a hurry. When we finally were ready, Steve and his team came in and worked efficiently. We ran into problems - we had a large piece of granite in the way of the work to be done, and Steve and his team kept me informed and provide different options to overcome the obstacle, which were significant. We had to move our HVAC unit as well to complete the work. Steve and his team performed the work they could, we got the HVAC company in to move the unit, and AKME came back in on time and quickly to finish the job. Hire AKME Waterproofing & Sealants. I contacted Steve after getting several references for a waterproofing job at our home in Brookhaven. AKME Waterproofing & Sealants did a fantastic job of waterproofing our basement from the begging to the end. Steve was very responsive to all my issues. AKME Sealants gave us an accurate assessment of both of our crawl spaces. One needed mold abatement before encapsulation could be done. They recommended a company that did a comprehensive job in abatement. Following that both crawl spaces were encapsulated to include a drainage system and a sump pump in the main space. We are thankful for the great work done by AKME in both of these areas! PS- our HVAC serviceman, impressed by the quality of the work, has asked who did our work - we were pleased to tell him!

Steve and his crew were fantastic, he really took the time to get the job right, price and timeline were spot on what I was quoted, no surprises at all, and a year later, my crawl space is as perfect as the day he finished, and no smell or moisture issues in the rest of my basement, which is exactly what I wanted.
