All week heavy afternoon thunderstorms had rocked the area. The contractor was scheduled to complete the work while we were out of town for the weekend starting Friday. Their crew started the work at around 3PM in the afternoon.....had the roof off, 12 vents removed and ridge line cut right in time for the thunder storm to hit. The crew did not have a tarp so they decided to pack up their stuff and leave before been stopped by a neighbor that was watching over the project. "Oh, it is not that bad!" he was told.... When he went into the house water was staining the living room dry wall on the lower lever (two level home) The crew decided to throw the felt in length across the roof for protection...just in time when the rain stopped. We had damage to 6 room upstairs, the two level entrance, living room and kitchen area. When we returned and met with the female Owner of the company we where told that by the afternoon our house would be back to normal.....she had not been in the house at that point. While we showed her the wet dry walls, dripping light fixtures and dredged carpets one of her workers started to patch up the wet cracks in the drywall. We asked them to stop and dry things before any work would be done. We had to ask them to get an air drier...which they did at Lowes....as small as a hand bag it hardly was the right unit for the job. To keep it short: The crew had used the wrong type of nail to install the shingles The felt was installed vertically instead of horizontal The roof panels (wood) were damaged during the installation of the roof The openings for the removed vents were filled in with thinner ply wood pieces which cause the new shingles to buckle inwards The ridge line was not installed correctly Gutters were bend from ladders Windows were scratched during the removal of the old roof Siding was scratched and damaged during the removal of the old roof The attic fan was installed on one of the old vent openings which was not the right diameter (smaller) The owner wanted to "patch" up the wet spots in the individual walls instead of painting the wall or ceiling (her husband was good with matching paint we were told) After the company agreed to pay a building inspector to establish a damage report they questioned his report and findings afterwards...we were "offered" $2,000 for the repairs. We had received quotes from companies adding up to $12,000+ to replace the false installed roof and repair / replace all damaged items We had to file a lawsuit to finally get them to respond after their INSURANCE would not accept our claim because of the "Negligent work conducted..." by their client. During the process we were told we just wanted to take advantage of a bad situation and get work done that was not covered in the original project. The lawyers settled out of court in the last minute. Needless to say by that time we lost $$ because we had to pay our lawyer The scary part of all this.......a few month later the showed up as an A+ BBB member.... Did you know companies can buy themselves onto the BBB list??? My complained with the BBB with all paperwork from all companies and inspector provided did not change the BBB's mind INCOMPETANT AND UNPROFFESIONAL
