From Deb to Russ Melton (Intown Craftsmen's owner, who came to my house to assess the situation and give me an estimate) to Luke, the Intown Craftsmen employee who did the carpentry prep work, every person I dealt with at Intown Craftsmen provided excellent, caring service. Although my job was a small one compared to many of the large-scale projects Intown Craftsmen handles, it was really important to me--especially after having been without a working stove for over a week. Deb and Russ were super responsive to my phone calls and texts and also put my mind at ease about things. They also have really good senses of humor (#bonus)!! I am happy to report that, the day after Luke's work on my countertops and floor, my stove was successfully delivered!!
Description of Work: I needed carpentry work done on my kitchen countertops and floor in order to prepare a space in my kitchen for delivery of an electric stove. Before contacting Intown Craftsmen, I'd had two failed delivery attempts of my new stove and was really burned out (pun intended). I needed a professional who could figure things out for me, as my eyes were glazing over every time I pulled up the specs for my stove to try to figure things out myself. A friend who is an Angie's List member made a preliminary call to Intown Craftsmen for me and explained my situation to Deb in customer service.

+ 0 moreI had an excellent experience. First, I was assigned the "A" team of Joe and Phil, who did everything they could to make my project successful. They even did a few extras, like shaving off the bottom of some doors that were hard to open. I embarked on the project without having picked out any materials, so Russ (the owner) met me at Floor and Decor a couple of times to help me with my tile choices. I continued to make decisions throughout the process and the guys helped me make sure they would work out. It was beautifully executed and I couldn't be happier with the results.
Description of Work: My craftsman bungalow has a small bathroom that had initially been built from part of one of the bedrooms. Due to an undetected leak, I ended up having some damage to the sub flooring and took the opportunity to do a total remodel. The footprint of the original bathroom included an L shaped extension to accommodate the tub. This impacted my ability to make good use of the space in the bedroom, so I elected to replace the tub with a shower and move the wall.

They are focused on quality instead of small, quick jobs. If I had a older home I wanted restored, they'd be my choice.
Description of Work: 2 x 2 foot hole in Sheetrock ceiling (almost fell through from the attic). We were hoping for a quick-and-dirty-retain-our-rental-deposit kinda fix.

In addition, they noticed some items in need of repair that were not anticipated in the estimate, discussed them with me, and took care of those while they were here.. I was pleased that they didn't do unnecessary work and that they made the appropriate adjustment to the bill with no argument.

+ 6 moreIt went extremely poorly in that I have been running around after this contractor for an entire month, which shows extreme disrespect for my time, as well as a lack of professionalism on their part.
Description of Work: I needed an estimate on a pretty large scale renovation project in order to update my home. I took the afternoon off of work to meet Russ at my home at 1:00pm on June 30th - exactly one month ago today. I even made a list of each of the individual items I wanted to discuss, so that he could take it with him when he left - allowing him an easier time to remember what we had discussed and provide an estimate. Two weeks later, on July 16th, I finally received the estimate, and it was still missing quite a number of line items we discussed during our initial meeting. Therefore, I immediately emailed him a request on that same day to include a revised estimate to include the missing items, as well as a few additional edits. Again, in doing so, I provided extremely detailed information in order to try to made this as easy as possible. However, days later, I still didn't hear back from anyone. I followed up with Deb, who scheduled my initial appointment when I first met with Russ, and received an email back from her on Wednesday, 7/19 to tell me that Intown Craftsmen "place all their emphasis on their current projects, even if it's at the expense of being responsive" Deb then wrote that she would do her best to get Russ to respond. Finally, a few days later, I heard from Deb via a text to let me know I should receive a response from Russ by Monday, July 24th. I wait and check my email all day - but still nothing. I followed up yet again with Deb the following day on Tuesday, and receive another text telling me that although Russ cleared his calendar that day, he's now busy in a meeting, but that he told Deb to tell me to expect something sometime that day - Tuesday, 7/25 - and this last run-around was almost a week ago. It's been a month since my initial visit and I still don't have an accurate estimate. I find this behavior extremely unprofessional and quite disrespectful of prospective customers' time. If I had known in the beginning that this was the way Intown Craftsmen treats potential clients, I never would have bothered meeting with them in the first place.

We shopped around before settling on Intown; unlike others, they were responsive and understood our needs and budget. They provided a schedule and kept to it. They had the necessary ideas and vision that contributed to the overall success of the renovation. We did this long distance but we felt like we were there the whole time. We got text and email updates, timely phone calls and advice. The craftsmen, Joe and Phil worked diligently on the project. They were honest, friendly, and efficient. Russ oversaw the project and made sure that things came out the way we wanted. Cathy, in the office kept things financially on track. We highly recommend them!

+ 18 moreWOW x 4. Customer service - amazing. Responsiveness - amazing. Time to start project - less than 3 days once I received the estimate. Quality, attention to detail and experience with job at hand - top knotch. This was my FIRST major project in a 1960s rancher. And I have heard the horror stories with hiring contractors...doing construction. Russ made this painless. It took 4-5 days but after day 1 when the wall was removed and the temp framing put in place - I could see what impact it would make on my 1400 sq foot house. The space. The openness. Todd was my daily contractor guy and he was so easy to work with - and while young - really knows his stuff. Very impressed. I almost cannot wait to start a new project (kitchen floor, adding casement windows, SUNROOM!). Intown Craftsman will have all of my business.
Description of Work: Interior wall removal - one was load bearing and one was not. Removal of wall required wood floor weaving, moving a return vent and removing electrical switch but reconnecting lights to other switches, installation of beam and post, paint, trim replacement.

+ 6 moreRuss is a great guy with a "can-do," "no problem" attitude which is genuine. He also has a talented team behind him and we enjoyed working with the majority of his sub-contractors. They did excellent work, cleaned up their sight each time and were super nice people. In particular his painter, handyman and general craftsmen/carpenter were incredible. The roofer did a nice job, too. On the flip side the crew brought in to remove the kitchen floor made an unnecessary mess by not tarping the kitchen off before they removed the old Mexican saltillo tile that resulted in getting thick red dust all over the house. But Russ made them make good on it and the project stayed on track. The renovation was done on time and ready for the moving trucks to arrive. The project started in late summer and we were done within three months on-time and in budget. We are very, very happy with the results and would hire Russ again if another project came up for this house in the future. The renovation, like most renovations, have their stressful moments but Russ always made us feel good during those times by talking us through it all and in the end we got a great result.
Description of Work: We hired Intown Craftsmen to remodel our brick 3-bedroom cottage in Brookwood Hills, Atlanta. The remodel included a new roof, interior painting of the whole house, replaced old tile kitchen floors, wood floors refinishing, a new kitchen bar, new kitchen backsplash Basically we had his team come in and really give the sweet cottage a good spruce up!

+ 5 moreWe hired Intown to do significant work on our new house in Decatur before our cross country move. Intown was a life saver - not only did Russ communicate clearly and regularly, he and his team went well above and beyond, helping me with keys (at 10:00 at night), giving me a ride to MARTA, hauling in various deliveries, dealing with the house while we were three time zones away, and generally going the extra mile. The work was done so fast - we had a pretty unreasonable time frame because we wanted the interior work to be done in less than three weeks. I didn't think it was possible, but Intown did it, and continued to be available to us for additional issues we discovered at the house. The quality of the work was also excellent. Can't recommend Intown highly enough- really grateful for all the extra help and the excellence of the work.

Not many people in the area deal with our types of windows any more, so the knowledge Russ had was refreshing. He found the right person to complete the job professionally and with great quality. The estimate was very reasonable, and both he and his office manager Jeff were very responsive, professional and easy to work with. We felt comfortable leaving them in the house for a few errands we needed to run over the multi-day project, and they followed-up to make sure everything was just right. We're even asking them to come and take a look at another project we are considering next. Highly recommend!

There were a lot of variables in this project, and Jeff and Russ were very flexible and transparent about the various options, their pros and cons, and the tradeoffs of each. They continued to be flexible and reasonable all throughout the project, helping us to get the best and most important work done while staying within our budget. Just a thoroughly pleasant, no-pressure situation all around. The work itself required some adjustments as they opened up the walls and floors, and it was clear how much Intown values clear communication and the experience of the customer in doing the work that needs to be done. The people who did the work?separate crews for the inside and the gutter/roofing were efficient, friendly, and forthcoming, and the work they did transformed the room into one of my favorite places to be in the whole house (it used to be a place I spent as little time in as possible). Very highly recommended, Intown will be my go-to for any work I need done in the future.

+ -1 moreGreat!!! We rent out our condo in North Decatur and our tenant had an issue with the pocket door coming off the track so we called Intown Craftsmen to hep us. They were very responsive and the office manager even took it upon herself to call our tenant to setup a time that was convenient for him which made things a lot easier for all of us! The repairman came at the time he said he would and was very efficient in getting the job done. Our tenant is happy and we are very happy!!! Russ, himself, even called the next morning to check in to see how it went. We had such a good experience with them that we are now asking them to come back over to look at some small plumping issues that we want to head off as well! Thank you, Intown Craftsman!! + 0 more.On June 14th, a very nice gentleman from Intown Craftsmen showed up exactly on time, took the measurements, listened to what I wanted to accomplish, and offered some excellent advice and suggestions. On July 4th I received an email with the estimate for $9800, which covered labor and construction materials, such as cement board and drywall (I assume). I would be responsible for providing the tub, tile, cabinets, countertop, mirror, lights, sink, toilet, faucets, grab bars, towel bars, glass shower door or shower rod, and the Toto Washlet. In other words, I would buy whatever I wanted of whatever quality I wanted to spring for. I thought the estimate was in the ball park, and I like the idea of purchasing my own "furnishings" with no contractor markup, as Russ Melton noted in the estimate. The estimate did point out that unseen problems, such as bringing up to code anything necessary, hidden damage, or removing asbestos or other hazardous materials would cost extra. Seems fair. The only thing I didn’t like as well was parts of the payment schedule. 10% nonrefundable to hold the start date was reasonable. 40% upon start I am not so sure about. It may be common practice and maybe the money is for construction materials. Not sure. Balance as work progresses? Not sure what that means. Total due at final walk through, of course . In the estimate, Russ Melton asked me to call him for with any questions and I am sure he would clear up my uncertainty, but in the meantime I have chosen another contractor to do the job. When I emailed Intown Craftsmen my decision, I added that I hoped I could still consider them for other improvements to my old house in the future and I do so hope. They seem like a great company to work with.
Description of Work: I am remodeling a hall bath, 6.5 by 8 feet, original to my 1961 ranch. The original cream wall tile is in perfect shape, and reluctance to tear it out is what has held me back this long. In the meantime I replaced the original toilet a few years ago with a Toto Guinevere and the sink with a nifty Kohler with a “green” Pfister waterfall faucet. The problems: the original tub has lost its finish, so that soot falling from the poorly installed exhaust fan (which I had installed by a neighborhood handyman seventeen years ago and he cut the hole in the ceiling too big) sticks all over the tub and can only be removed, if at all, by abrasive scrubbing, which further degrades the tub finish. The original electric plug is part of the old light fixture and no longer works, so there’s nowhere to plug in an electric toothbrush, hair dryer, shaver, or anything. Also, I have been wanting to install a Toto Washlet on my Toto Guinevere, which requires an electric plug in the vicinity of the toilet. The tiny tile squares of the floor are loosening and coming out and the floor finish is gone so it looks dirty even after scrubbing.
