Description of Work: My experience was awful. It took three months to do a cosmetic renovation of a 45 sq ft bathroom . I was lied to, disrespected. Paid a premium price for barely average work. Stay away from this company!

Wow her project is beautiful we're surprised at this review. We had some logistic problems such as her selecting items that had 3-4 week delivery times. When a vanity she selected arrived damaged from the trucking company we had to reorder and it did take two additional weeks. In addition the customer changed items such as a window to glass block further delaying the project. I feel her comments are inappropriate as the customer decisions (her right of course) created much of the delay.

Description of Work: I have used Intown in the past and been very happy with the services. On this particular project....I think I should have hired a couple specialists instead of combining the entire job into one for Intown. Somethings were ok - others have to be completely redone. :(

Description of Work: After receiving a flyer for Intown Craftsmen on our mailbox, I am finally motivated to share our story with having them renovate our home in 2012. Several months ago I emailed and left a voicemail (the same number as on the flyer) asking about scheduling warranty work, but have not received a response. We also had a planned meeting earlier in the year but then Russ canceled at the last minute. Judging by his other reviews on Angie's List, he will probably claim this "slipped through the cracks" or got caught in a spam filter. |We hired Russ because he said all the right things, the price was right, and they could start relatively soon. We should have known something was up when the foreman (who we knew from high school) quit right before our job started. Russ claimed he only used full-time employees and not subcontractors, but that was definitely not the case on our job as our flooring company at least was definitely a subcontractor. |The quality of work was not very good, and Russ did such a poor job of communicating and running the project that we were basically the project manager by the end- in charge of the "punch list" and communicating directly with the workers. The main reason we hired Intown Craftsmen was because we thought we could get quality work done and not have to worry about it, but we were mistaken on both counts. In hindsight, selecting the individual ourselves would have cost about the same and taken about as long as the entire job ended up taking, but the quality would have been much better. |What was originally estimated as a 4-6 week job turned into a 10-12 week job with no actual setbacks other than inability to get a team of quality workers at the house. Several weeks went by with virtually no work, and lack of communication and responsiveness was a common occurrence. We were asked to pay 1/6 of the job each week for the first 4 weeks, then we suggested adjusting the payment schedule- we made one more payment a month later, then another payment 3 weeks after that, then the final payment 3 months after the original payment. I clearly remember Russ telling us the week before Thanksgiving to "schedule the movers" for that weekend, and our home wasn't ready until the week before Christmas (not counting the 3 days of additional work that we asked them to wait until after the holidays to finish). |The number of issues along the way were numerous, and this is not the full list. They tried to re-use a stringer for an outdoor porch that was clearly notched from another project and not even pressure treated until we pointed it out. We still have nails sticking out of the sides of exterior stairs, and several balusters were not actually nailed at the bottom. Our front porch wasn't sealed properly and the wood is already bowing, and the porch flooring was cut flush without an overhang- Russ actually argued with me and said that it isn't supposed to have an overhang! I could literally point to our neighbor's front porch with a visible overhang. Our dishwasher that was supposed to be installed flush with the cabinets was sticking out and Russ argued that it is supposed to be like that, even though upon further inspection the brackets on the side were drilled into the cabinet fronts, damaging them. They dropped our oven door while installing it and broke the glass, and although they replaced the broken piece they lost some of the screws and the door doesn't close *quite* right. They spray painted doors in the yard, getting paint on plants, grass, and brick (which they power washed after we told them to). The interior paint job missed the edges of ceilings, windows were painted shut, and paint is coming off a lot of the trim already. Most of the doors that were installed did not close properly. They left old appliances and counters out in the backyard for weeks, killing the grass, even after I asked Russ several times to make sure they were moved. The workers kept the key for the house in an electrical box outside on the front porch overnight, until we found out about it. Oh, and somebody was fired by Russ on the job for clogging one of our toilets and just leaving it like that. |I don't think Russ ever did a final walkthrough. Russ would randomly include some free work (replacing a few fence boards, repairing tile) because I assume he wanted us to feel better about the value we were getting, but it wasn't what we were asking for and it came at the expense of other items we did actually want done. We ended up with a punch list of 25+ items and a number of items we gave up on them ever being able to actually accomplish, like cleaning up the driveway (covered in pieces of the broken glass from the stove) or the basement (every surface covered in dust from refinishing cabinets). |I will say that we didn't get nickled and dimed to death, but we were very disappointed with the quality and the timeliness of Intown Craftsmen. I feel that Russ was not honest with us several times, and I would not trust him to do any more work- I was reluctant to try and make use of the warranty but I think we are now done with each other.

We tried very hard to satisfy this customer. I'm so sorry they feel like we dropped the ball. We have responded very timely to all their requests. We have gone back to the job over four times to complete punch lists. We simply had to stop when they started demanding that we repair work that was not ours. There was a lot of friction between the customers and I feel we have been unfairly brought into that friction.

Intown Craftsmen responded quickly to my inquiry and were out the next day to do an estimate. We agreed on a price and 2 days later they were back and finished the job in one visit. The job was done quickly and with quality.
Description of Work: Intown Craftsmen repaired a sizeable hole / rotten area in our garage roof. The hole was about 2 feet by 2 feet. They replaced the roof decking, added new shingles and touched up paint on the fascia.

What a great experience. Russ has been a fantastic find for my home repairs and updates! I can't say enough good things about working with Russ. He's exactly the kind of person I want to work with, extremely knowledgeable, a good communicator, responsive, very fair pricing, and a true passion for what he does. From my initial contact with Russ, getting my estimate (and looking into some future work I want done), and then punctually getting the work done. He knows that we all work hard for our money, and has a true appreciation for the quirks of an older home. I would gladly recommend Russ to any of my friends and family. I look forward to working with him on my lengthy list of to-do items in my house.
Description of Work: I've had Russ to do a couple of projects recently, including raising my upper kitchen cabinets to a "normal" height, paint, and a mailbox repair.

My experience with Russ Melton, the owner of Intown Craftsmen, was nothing short of awesome. He understands how hard-earned my money is, and he demonstrated to me tremendous commitment to providing a quality job at a very very fair price. Russ answered the phone (mobile phone) immediately when I called and we scheduled a time that same evening for him to come out. He couldn't have been more responsive! I was expecting out-of-town guests in two days, and I needed my electrical problem solved before then. Russ arrived after I got home from work, at the exact time he committed. He asked me questions and then began troubleshooting the problem. "Something" was popping that circuit breaker, and the problem wasn't obvious. Russ was very deliberate in his approach, eliminating one possibilty after another. The culprit turned out to be the fifth or sixth most likely reason ... and Russ persisted until he found it. He treated me very fairly on price, he was personable and responsive and sympathetic every step of the way. He was punctual and explained everything to me in terms I easily understood. I will definitely hire Russ again for my electrical and other home repair needs. There are overdue Fall projects on my list, and I'm going to ask Russ to help me accomplish some of those.
Description of Work: Electrical problem. I had a room without electricity, and whenever I reset the circuit breaker it would not hold. I couldn't figure out the problem myself and had to call someone to help. I knew it was going to require troubleshooting ... identifying and eliminating the most likely culprits first. Russ was very methodical in his approach. He took apart outlets and switches, one by one. When concluding a problem didn't exist there, he restored everything to the way it was and moved onto the next one. We disconnected a mini-refrigerator to eliminate its motor as the cause of the problem. He looked to the circuit breaker itself. On the fly, he ran over to Home Depot to buy a new circuit breaker and replaced mine, to ensure that that wasn't the problem. All this, he did the first evening. He ultimately found the problem in a very unlikely location (one of the switches that I use very rarely). A loose connection was causing a short, and popping the circuit breaker. He replaced the faulty connector, and power is restored throughout!
