Absolutely perfect! Tom did the work on time and within budget. He was flexible, creative, thoughtful, careful, communicative, trustworthy, punctual, and just plain pleasant to work with. This guy is bright and friendly. He's not some bubba nail-banger. He's a former professional consultant. He's used to working with folks as professionals. His demeanor, behavior, and temperament are all top notch. He's a happy family man who adores his wife and son so you don't have to worry about bad behavior around your wife and kids. He speaks clearly, eloquently, and he does not use bad language. You can trust him with keys to your home. He will go above and beyond the call of duty when he sees the need. He has a strong sense of what's right and what's fair. He's also practical. He won't try to talk you into doing crazy stuff or spending money that you don't have to. He treats your renovation as his own. He's respectful of your space, property, and privacy. He hustles: He works fast and hard. I am a hard and conscientious worker so if I am impressed with his work ethic, you can be sure he's not a slacker. He works alone so he takes full responsibility for all of the work. He doesn't get slowed down by subs. He focuses fully on your job. He welcomed my input, participation and assistance whenever I was available. He didn't try to hide anything or keep me in the dark about anything. He's a creative problem solver. He thinks things through carefully before spending your money. Right at the end of the project the weekend before the countertops were to be installed we had a water connection let go in the kitchen. There was a degree of shared responsibility for this failed water line and Tom stepped forward and took ownership for his part. The leak caused damage to the new hardwood floors, some of the new cabinetry, the subflooring, and the insulation underneath. He immediately took steps to mitigate and remediate. He made repairs at discounted cost. He stayed with the project to completion. Tom was referred to us by a friend who had worked with him on her kitchen renovation project. She's a single gal without a lot of technical knowledge but she was totally pleased. The work in her home was excellent also. He stays busy on the basis of word-of-mouth -- which speaks highly considering he was able to stay busy during the economic downturn. I plan to use Tom again for some future work -- after my finances recover a bit from this kitchen. While it was not a cheap project, I definitely got my money's worth -- and then some. I cannot say enough good about Tom and there's really nothing uncomplimentary to say. If you treat him fairly and respectfully, he will do the same for you.
Description of Work: Gutted the kitchen back to the studs and subflooring, minor wiring, installed hardwood flooring, repaired and re-sheetrocked the entire kitchen and much of the living and dining area, hung and trimmed new cabinets, installed new lighting, built a platform for a mobile island, painted, installed glass tile backslplash, crown moulding, helped plan cabinets, coordinated countertop installation, re-ducted HVAC, took care of our very sick dog until we could get home and get her to the vet. Covered and protected all furniture and artwork. Cleaned up after each day's work.
