Better Built Decks and Carpentry

We moved intoa home that needed (still needs) a full renovation. One of the first things we focused on was replacing the original deck. We got a couple quotes & found that we tended to get a different/higher price based on where we lived. My husband & I have renovated over 10 homes in last 5 years so we know prices Anyway, I saw an old post from a neighbor who recommended Better Built Decks out of Dawsonville. Anyway, Father/Son team who did TOP NOTCH work & just super nice guys. They also did some work in our attic and are going to rip off our non-original portico on our home. I highly recommend!

James is a highly skilled carpenter. He has a tremendous work ethic and demonstrated integrity and professionalism. He quickly understood our project which was to build a small deck in front of a new shed with ramp and step access and a bridge over a dry creek. We are very satisfied with all aspects of his work.

James built an extension on to our existing deck (12 feet high). His work is first rate. I would hire him again in a second. Showed up when he said he would and completed the job ahead of schedule. The deck extension looks great!!! JOB WELL DONE!!!!

James is beyond a man of his word. When he says his work approach is as though heâ s doing it for himself, heâ s not kidding. His attention to detail is amazing and he works with you as a thought partner. We made some favorable adjustments in real time based on some things he was seeing and considering, again as though he was building this for himself, which provided for additional fencing off both ends of our deck, which our dogs will appreciateâ ¦. James was on time, gave me an honest quote and honest time frame on start and duration time. Great quality of work. If you want the job in a day or two, he can't as he does the work himself with a crew of 1 to 2 at most, but if you want quality HONEST work you can't go wrong with James.

If I could give Better Built Decks 10 stars, I would. I can't speak highly enough of this company, and the IMPECCABLE work that went into our job! My husband and I saw a gorgeous deck being built while we were walking one day and immediately knew that we wanted the same company to do our project. James worked with us to ensure that every detail of our deck project would be perfect. He really takes pride in his craft, and does the kind of work that he would expect to be done on his own home. With decades of experience, he is insightful and figured out how to make our most impossible requests come to life. James and his assistant did an outstanding job replacing our deck railings and stairs. James was very knowledgeable and very professional. We met him while we were on a walk in our neighborhood. He invited us to see the project he was working on and we were very impressed with the work. He came to our house and carefully listened to our project requirements. We found James Hogan on Home Advisor. He promptly made an appointment and came out to give us a quote, which we accepted after comparing it with another contractor. He and his crew demolished our rotten pergola and reconstructed a similar structure, put a roofing on it, and then laid porcelain tiles on our cement patio slab. He rewired the pergola and installed lighting. His meticulous attention to detail, skill with the wood construction and overall customer service earned him his rating. A pleasure to do business with--on time and on target. Great value for the money.

After seeing the work that James did for my dad I immediately called for an estimate on a complete rebuild of my existing deck. Extremely professional and knowledgeable, James took vague idea(s) and ran with them showing better results than I pictured. We did a brand new 2 story deck and added a custom pergola that fit exactly what I had in mind. Better than extremely satisfied and excited to share this new space with others.

James and his crew took on a difficult repair job on my deck and came up with innovative solution to replacing support posts which were compromised by improper design of deck addition. He and his crew were courteous, completed work on time and cleaned up. Work was so good I used him also to resurface my lake dock. Price was good for both projects. I got 3 quotes on repairing my deck. James was by the far the most reasonable. He and his worker Alejandro take pride in their work. The deck was completed timely. It is like a new deck. It was nice to have work done by James and Alejandro and not a bunch of subcontractors. I would hire them again.

I could not be more pleased with the deck project James did for me. He does quality work and offers good suggestions. I was not sure exactly what I wanted so he sent me lots of pictures to help with my decision. He is a hard worker and a perfectionist, which is reflected in his finished product.
