Response from Brad Carlton
MY BROKER DID PAY HER SON A REFERRAL FEE, SO NO ONE WAS CHEATED OUT OF ANYTHING! I worked with this client buying 2 homes for her sons. She told me several times what a great job I was doing. On one of the houses she was competing with another offer but I worked closely with the listing Realtor to insure they considered our offer over the other one, which resulted in my client getting the home she wanted. Again, she thanked me for the excellent work I had done for her. After both of these closings her son, who is an experienced Realtor in Las Vegas, contacted me and told me he wanted a referral fee. The established procedure in real estate is when a referral fee is expected the Realtor's agree BEFORE any contracts are signed and a Referral Agreement is signed by both real estate Brokers. This has been the established procedure since I've been in the real estate business, which is 23 years! Her son was asking for an amount much higher than I have ever agreed to pay. If he had followed the long established procedure of asking for his high referral fee BEFORE I started working with his Mother he would have known what I was willing to pay and he and his Mother could have made a decision, at that point, if they wanted to work with me or not. So, I DID NOT cheat anyone out of anything. My Broker DID PAY HIM A REFERRAL FEE! I am sorry his Mother felt he was cheated but she told me time and time again how good a job I was doing for her. I enjoyed working with her on both of these transactions and am very sorry her son not getting what he wanted caused her to to feel this way. I hope her and her son are both enjoying their new homes.
