excellent, efficient great cleanup

Owner arrived promptly for a detailed estimate. He was very personable and professional. He evaluated the roof from the attic and gave several comments and advice as to the work required. He seemed obviously knowlegeable and very reliable and trustworthy. His price was somewhat higher than my other estimate, but he was ingto negotiate and also add additional work to repair some damaged siding. The company showed up right on schedule and completed the job as promised. (I was actually out of town at the time, but the job looked perfect when I arrived home). The crew cleaned up any mess and left the premises in good shape. (My wife had a slight problem with some debris on the outdoor furniture, but this was cleaned up). The owner also came back and painted the siding repair to complete the job.

This was a great experience! Doug Horsley is AWESOME! Doug first performed a thorough inspection (inside and out). Next he made several recommendations that will improve the flow of water away from potential trouble spots. I showed him a problem spot in my attic where I had a weak/failing roof truss. He offered to assist me with the carpentry work and labor to fix the problem. The crew was excellent and very professional. They were on time each day and completed in two days. They were meticulous in their clean up. Doug has followed up several times to be sure that I was satisfied. I cannot imagine it going any better.

This job went very well. Doug Horsley was detailed in his estimate, describing exactly the materials that would be used. His company documentation also included a description of professional standards and policies that his crews are required to follow. He also stated that repairing my roof was an option, and that I could get a few more years out of it. Because of the flaws from the original builder, I had lost confidence in my existing roof and had already decided to re-roof. I also wanted to change the color from black to something lighter that would stay cooler. Mr. Horsley was much more helpful in this than any of the other roofers I had consulted. He brought enough sample shingles of several candidate colors to lay them on my roof and have enough area covered to get a good idea of what the house would look like. The materials and the dumpster were delivered exactly on time. Because of rain, the crew started one day later than originally planned. The crew finished in less than two days. They also held the damaged decking out of the dumpster for inspection. They did a pretty good job of cleaning up, though Mr. Horsley did find more nails than he would have liked during the final inspection that he does. The house with its new roof is beautiful, and most importantly, we have had a couple of fairly hard rains and no water has gotten in. Another important aspect of this work that I am very pleased with is that the crew did not damage anything else during the process. The final bill came in right where I expected, allowing for the decking that needed replacement. I had gotten four estimates from reputable companies. Award's estimate was not the lowest, nor was it the highest, but I believe it represented the best value of the four. Writing this review several weeks after the work has been completed, I still feel that way.

Excellent service and professionalism. Did everything they said that they would do and at the time they said they would do it. Cleanup was exceptional. I would highly recommend this company and Doug Horsley to anyone.

Communication was excellent from the first contact with Ryan Horsely. He always returned phone calls or emails immediately, and answered all of our questions patiently, and in detail. Every time he had an appointment to meet with us, he arrived precisely on time. He is professional, knowledgeable, friendly and well-groomed. After receiving a total of five estimates, we decided on Award Roofing due to their excellent rating on Angie's List, as well as their being the next-to-lowest bid. Their proposal was about $2,000 less than the highest bidder, a substantial savings. We felt better about going with a company that specializes in roofs, rather than a general contractor. When Ryan came by to answer a few remaining questions, and assist me in choosing a color for the shingles (in accordance with our community ARC guidelines), I told him we were ready to sign a contract, but that we first wanted to request a senior discount, based on their mention of it on Angie's List. He barely missed a beat in saying that his father (company owner) usually approves the discounts, but that he would gladly go ahead and authorize it for us on the spot, which saved us an additional 5%. Work began within a few days. The workers arrived on time and worked steadily for two days, in extreme heat. Each of them was courteous and hard-working. I was impressed with the fact that the workers seemed to be treated with respect by their employer. The job was done efficiently and as stated in the contract. Ryan was on the scene several times to check on things, and to provide water during the extreme heat. Clean-up after completion was meticulous. Before the job was completed, I noticed a bedroom window had been broken during the tear-off process. Ryan immediately offered to have it replaced, and didn't expect payment from us until after the new window was back on. We had to go out of town for several days before the window was replaced, and by the time we returned, the new window was in place, and we paid for the job. We never felt pressured for payment until the job was 100% completed to our satisfaction; and, in fact, Ryan wanted us to feel completely satisfied before accepting payment. He could easily have requested we pay him before leaving town, but he didn't. There have been a couple of heavy rains since the installation (which is why I waited until now to write my report), and no more leaks. We would highly recommend Award Roofing to anyone who's looking for a professional and fairly-priced roof installation. They were a pleasure to work with, from beginning to end.

Doug (the owner) was professional and very helpful. He was responsive and came to the home to explain the estimate and the process. After we agreed to the job his team was able to complete the roof (including cleanup) within one week. Fantastic job!!! But just as important Doug was very helpful in our discussions with the insurance company. As a result of his detailed explanations, the insurance company increased their estimate twice for an additional amount of $1,100 to the original settlement. Very helpful. I recommend Award Roofing Company to anyone needing roofing services.

Ryan Horsley did a free estimate on replacing our roof. He also went above and beyond answering our questions regarding material and colors. He then replaced our roof and did a follow-up inspection and report. The final bill was within $500 of the original estimate. (There were additional charges for damage that was uncovered during replacement.) The price of the replacement (and the additional work) were among the lowest of the quotes we received. The level of service and communication was outstanding. I highly recommend Award Roofing and Ryan Horsely.

I was very pleased with their estimate. Doug Horsley was extremely personable and gave us a list of well over 50 references, in addition to actual addresses, so we could view the styles and colors ourselves. He was very close by, and we felt that we learned a lot from their estimate. They were very responsive to my needs, and very considerate in ending their work by sundown each day. I was quite happy with them and would certainly use them again.

We were extremely pleased. The roof was old and started to leak. Part of the problem was that the roof over the screened-in patio didn't have enough of a pitch for shingles, so they used roll roofing specifically design for low-pitched roofs. They included a metal drip edge around all the trim boards that I wasn't expecting (a very nice extra that keeps water off the trim boards. I was very impressed). They were very thorough in cleaning up after the job! Will definitely use them again.

Ryan and his crew did a superb job for us. The entire crew was on time, worked extremely hard all day, and cleaned up beautifully afterwards. And the guarantee is excellent: 30 years shingles, and 15 years labor. I am very pleased. Ryan is a pleasure to work with.

After leaving them a message, Mr. Doug Horsley returned my phone call within an hour and came over that evening to discuss the job. The roof needed replacing in all three sections as well as new vent pipe boots. After my comments about how hot the upstairs office was, he suggested adding airflow spaces in the rafters to allow the heated air to escape through the ridge vent as it was currently being blocked by the insulation in the ceiling of that office. He also suggested redirecting the vent pipe from the front to the rear of the house so it was no longer visible from the street. I also contacted two other roofing contractors, and they were all responsive with competitive pricing. I selected Award Roofing because they were more willing to address the other two issues. Since my wife was selecting the color, we asked Doug to give us a list of homes which had the specific colors we wanted so we could see them. This was invaluable as colors we thought we liked often did not look that great, especially since our roof has a significant pitch and a lot of roof shows. Roof color selection makes quite a difference. I asked them to start the job on a specific date, and Doug came over a day early to remove the gutter covers so they wouln't get damaged (he also replaced them after the roof work was completed). Doug said it would be a one-and-a-half to two day job. Two-thirds of the first day were spent removing the old shingles, replacing damaged decking (my old roof leaked), installing the spacers, and redirecting the vent pipe. They got about a third of the house roofed the first day. On the second day they arrived at 7:30 and finished the job about 6:00 PM. No issues came up other than the damaged decking. I generally ask a lot of questions during a job, and they took the time to explain anything I asked about. Each day they cleaned up any loose material that was around the outside. Doug came back the following day to inspect the work done. He also asked if I had any questions and to make sure I was satisfied with the job.

Doug did a great job, very responsive to calls, workmen were very professional. Gave me a great price and the roof looks great. Also has 10 year LABOR warranty for leaks, etc.

Ryan Horsley came by and was very professional in providing description of work performed and went above and beyond in ensuring that we had lots of choices in what color shingles to choose. When the crew nailed into the underside of the screened in porch, they immediately stepped up to the issue and replaced all the screened porch roof wood. They also pointed out and replaced a screen that they tore (which I never would have seen). They worked hard and did a great job. I would recommend them highly.

Doug Horsley recommended that I contact a former subcontractor to do the repair work on my roof that he was unable to do. The individual Doug recommended was fabulous, as promised! He was at my house the same afternoon I contacted him, did a great repair on my roof (you can't even tell there was ever any damage!) and highlighted for me additional areas where I might potentially have problems in the future (but with no pressure about doing the repairs now). (And did I mention that on a follow-up call Doug even offered to come out and do the repairwork himself if for some reason the person he recommended was unable to do so? "I just hate to think of someone worrying about whether or not their roof is going to leak.") My husband and I often lament what appears to be the demise of good customer service. Doug Horsley is proof positive that GREAT customer service DOES still exist. Thanks so much, again, Doug!

Ryan Horsley came to my house and made a thorough inspection of my roof for damage. A comprehensive list of 10 items was given on installation of shingles, roof decking, plumbing vent boots and roof ventilators, etc. Also, Ryan's father, Doug, met and worked with the insurance adjuster on the cost of the new roof. The crew installed the roof in one day, and clean-up was meticulous. After the roof was installed, Ryan made a final inspection of the roof. Of course the shingles are warranted, but roofing by Award Roofing Company includes a 15 year labor warranty. Ryan and Doug Horsley are professional as well as personable. The quality of service was excellent, and I will definitely recommend this company to friends and neighbors.

We had been considering replacing our roof for a while and finally moved on it when a leak developed around one of our dormers causing minor damage to our interior sheet rock. I contacted a number of companies for estimates and had varying degrees of responsiveness from them. When Doug came out as scheduled and on time, he not only gave us the expected estimate, but took a tube of caulk up with him and put a temporary patch on our leak without charge! After going over the estimates from all bidders, Doug's estimate was competitive and we felt comfortable giving him the job. He explained how the work would be done and what would be done to protect and clean up our property. He also gave us good advice on picking colors we would be happy with, showed us some houses Award Roofing had re-roofed so we could see exactly what it would look like. The job was initially scheduled for a couple weeks out, but Doug contacted us and asked if they could come out early and start the job as he had an opening in the schedule. The crew came out on time, and got down to work and knocked it out. Doug was quite gracious and responsive about fixing a couple minor cosmetic issues we noticed before the job was finished. The finished job looked great and the cleanup was good. We have no reservations about recommending Award Roofing to anyone needing a roofing job.

Doug Horsley, owner of Award Roofing Company was highly recommended by a close friend who had used his services on two other houses. When I called Doug he made an appointment with me for the next day. He arrived on time, took measurements, explained his plan to protect our trees and shrubs during the roofing process and outlined his procedures for post job clean up and assurance that the attic was properly vented. Four hours later Doug provided a firm price for the roof replacement. Concurrently I had been trying to get a competitive bid from a company that replaced my neighbor's roof although I was concerned that that project had taken two weeks. After meeting with Doug and getting his quote we decided that we would skip the competitive quote and deal directly with Award Roofing. Doug's concern for our plants and proper ventilation of our attic convinced us that he was the one we wanted to replace our roof. On the day scheduled for the project to start Doug and his crew were on time and the materials and a dumpster had been delivered right on time. The job was finished in three and one half days; less time that we had expected. The clean up was excellent and no damage was done to our landscaping which included our side lighting. Every aspect of the job was entirely satisfactory and I would recommend Award Roofing Company to anyone who needs a new roof.

Excellent! Award Roofing Company came out in the 3rd week in April 2008 to look at the hail damage on my roof. The next day I had a full quote with a break down of all the costs. Doug Horsley (owner) spent a considerable amount of time with me at my house and over the phone to go over everything with me. A very honest man and would highly recommend him to anyone that needs a roof replaced. 7 days from his quote the roof was complete and a 15 year guarantee on labor and 30 years on materials. The roof came out perfect with no flaws! This company does not push you "in the corner" on signing anything. In fact with no money down the entire job was complete with 100% customer satisfaction. I interviewed about 10 roofing companies and Award Roofing Company was the one that gave me confidence in their quality and customer service!

They did a good job with the gable roof. They were on schedule, cleaned up well and were very professional. There was a minor problem with a broken bird feeder and a damaged light but they agreed to deduct that from the final bill.

I have a fairly large house so this was a pretty big job. They were just excellent. They installed the roof on time. They were not the lowest bidder but they were recommended the highest. There were a few problems in the few months afterward but they came back and took care of everything. They were very quick to return our phone calls.
