What I have found with the last three encounters is that Irwin is not very thorough, which lends itself to later issues that could have been addressed during his appointment. I had to ask him to check my freon and my air filters which he should have done anyway in the name of providing a thorough look at my A/C system. He comes across at times as incompetent and eager to collect a payment without proving a through exam. During his last visit, he did some rewiring because some of the wires "were incorrect" and he altered the contacts on the unit. Prior to then, my wiring was fine and there have never been any issues with incorrect wiring. He indicated to me at one point during his repairs and after he came from in my attic, that he had forgotten to reconnect some of the wires. Of course I was alarmed, because now I am wondering about the quality and whether his readjustments would likely spark a fire at a later time. I paid him $320 which he happily collected after having asked him whether everything was working properly. After he checked the freon levels upon my request, he advised me that both units were operating and that the lower unit was fine but it could use some more freon. That was last week and as of today, my a/c unit is not cooling my bedroom properly. He offered to come back and add freon for an additional $100 but who knows at this point whether freon is the issue. At this point, I have no confidence in Irwin's work and don't want to risk another $100. With regard to my Father's and my friend's experience, theirs was similar in that they continued to have problems after using Irwin. I like supporting other African Americans which is why I kept using him, but I now regret referring him and I feel like my money was wasted. The last thing I did not like is that he provides the cost at the back-end and does not provide up-front detailed pricing after he diagnoses the issue. This additional step would go a long way towards transparency.
Description of Work: I have used Irwin for both my personal home and rental property and have referred him twice, to my Father and to a friend. The last few encounters with him including the two referrals did not go well as far as the quality of the work and the lingering issues that persisted after he performed his repairs. My Father and I used him for A/C- related issues and my friend required repairs to her plumbing.
