Beau Bird came out to our home and went through every step of the process, and answered every question we could think of. He was very cordial and professional and put us at ease regarding how the operation would work. He even went above and beyond the call and showed us a part of our home that needed work that we were unaware of. He and his team came out and did a fantastic job. We can really tell the difference not only with the insulation making the house more energy efficient, but it actually cut down on the outside noise. We are very happy with their work. I would and will recommend them to my friends and family. Money well spent! Great job Bird Insulation! Scott and Sharon Sowers Lilbrun, GA.

The installation of foam went very well. The quote they gave us was thorough and they explained the process adequately. They arrived on time, worked hard, and were professional. I had to remind them to finish the cleanup in the attic and they had to return to spray a couple spots they missed around windows, but they came back within a timely manner and completed it. Their quote was lower than any other company that submitted an estimate for us. Definitely a good company to work with.

They just missed a few little details. They didn't put insulation on the doors to the attic. For $7000, I would have liked to have seen some insulation put on those little doors. Just little details were quick and slippery. The workers were okay.

We worked with the Bird company on 2 different projects and in both case it was perfect. We asked for estimates to different companies but Bob Bird was by far the most knowledgable and the most professional of the 3 or 4 companies we met. He was the only one who actually spent the time to go all the way in the attics, took pictures and really took the time to explain the issues and the solutions available to us. This was clearly not a sales pitch but a discussion with a professional who was working with us to get the best result. He gave us different solutions to perform the job and we decided to go with the foam insulation which has been given us a great result and made the house very comfortable. The team that performed the job included one of his son and they were all very courteous, professional and clean-up after the job was performed. This is a great company to work with and Bob Bird is always very responsive and he made sure that we were happy with the work.

There were some initial issues with dirt in the workspace that were quickly resolved. They were over and beyond to rectify. They put in new insulation on the attic walls and spray foamed in areas around that. They met all of our needs and were extremely professional and knowledgeable.

Owner came out to look at my unfinished bonus room. The room needed insulation and drywall. The owner asked if he could look through the entire house. After a brief time, he came back and asked if the house had cold spots. I indicated the house was drafty and he recommended cellulose insulation to make the house more comfortable. The company had good reviews on Kudzu, so I authorized the company to install cellulose insulation, additional ducts and drywall the bonus room. The crew was professional and punctual. Outcome: 1. The comfort level of the home did not improve. Everyone commented that the house still felt very drafty. I contacted the company to inform them of the situation, but was told that comfort was "subjective" which I found odd since that was the same metric used during the quote process. I subsequently hired an energy audit company to do an analysis of my home which revealed extensive leaks around windows, doors and baseboards which account for the draftiness. I wished I had an audit first then I would have quantitative information to drive my decisions on improving my home comfort and how to best spend my limited financial resources. For now, I'll have to continue cranking up thermostat. 2. The drywall installation was of very poor quality. The walls are not smooth and numerous "nail pops" and cracks have developed. I will have to demo the existing drywall and have it done over again. Overall, these were not the results I expected, especially having seen all the positive reviews about the company on Kudzu. I particularly was disappointed the company did not at least come by to take a look at my concerns.

Overall the project ended up with a great result. The biggest complaints we had were not knowing what the insulation would look like and the cleanup afterwards for which the crew didn't follow typical protocol. The owner himself and the crew manager came out personally after the job to address our concerns. They did not make excuses and took full accountability for not performing proper prep and cleanup of the space during the job. They would not except payment until we were completely satisfied. They came out and finished the job to our complete satisfaction. They even moved some boarding that was in our attic space over to a smaller attic space and secured it down for flooring at no extra charge. We didn't realize that the cellulose insulation would look "dirty" since it's brown in color. As the result of our project, they have performed re-training for cleanup purposes and are planning to create a catalog of pictures to show customers what the finished job will look like. It was a win-win because they really listened to our concerns and are taking measures to make sure it won't happen in the future. In addition, we really learned a lot from them about insulation and energy efficiency. They really know what they're doing and we will definitely use them again in the future.

They did a good job. What happened was that when I've had this other insulation company come out to give me a quote, they identified some issues. And so I called Bird Insulation and they were willing to come out and not only do touch up to correct the mistakes that they had made out in the past, but also to do the other work that I had asked for at a discounted rate. So they were quite flexible. I'm very happy with them as a client. They do quality work. They were courteous, professional, on time, and willing to come back to correct their mistake at no cost. I appreciate their commitment to quality.

The crew arrived on time. They worked quietly all day all over the house without stopping. They were careful about the cats. They were incredibly neat -- they removed every scrap of the old attic insulation, re-installed the attic flooring and left the attic cleaner than when they arrived. Before leaving at the end of the day, they tested the house again for efficiency readings to report to GA PWR. It was amazing. After the work was complete they filed all of the documents required for the GA PWR rebate so I didn't have to do anything but wait for the check from GA PWR which did take quite some time to arrive -- but that had nothing to do with the contractor. I was extremely pleased with the work and have recommended the Bird company to numerous friends. At least four homeowners in this community have employed them to replace insulation and make similar repairs to their homes.
Description of Work: I first contracted for an energy for which GA PWR rebated 50% of the cost of the audit. That was a very comprehensive test of the heating/cooling efficiency of the house. The crew was here for hours taking readings. As a result of those tests, the company could tell me what work was recommended and how much of the cost GA PWR would reimburse. I chose to have the insulation replaced in the attic and a cover installed around the opening to the pull down stairs. I also had openings sealed around pipes in the attic. In addition, Bird changed light bulbs to CFLs and applied silicon caulk around the fireplace and along the edge of the flooring on the entire first floor. They sealed openings around pipes and electrical connections in the kitchen particularly the stove and dishwasher where large openings had been in the walls. They even sealed small openings in the cinder block wall in the under staircase storage area.

We have ultimate respect for Andrew and this company. They are ethical, honest, and kind. Andrew took great interest in our project and provided us with much help and advice. Andrew talked us through what his company could help us with and what we could do ourselves. Although we decided to go with closed cell foam through another company (only because Bird Family does not currently offer this), we regret not being able to use Bird Family. The integrity, values, and honesty are evident. Even though we were not able to use Andrew for our project, he has continued to show interest in our project. We feel that we could have saved much time and heartache by using this company as they certainly care about their products, reputation, and customer service. We feel that they are well priced for the level of service and commitment they offer. This is not a company that you would have to micromanage to get the job done right. If they had a higher rating for Andrew we would definitely give it to him. He has been wonderful.

The audit went OK. Nothing earth-shattering; just a few little new tidbits of info I didn't already know. The inspector was new (had only been certified or whatever to do inspections for a few weeks I think they said) but friendly. Certainly not what one would call an expert with years of experience but whatever. Someone had just left; they were a bit overwhelmed with paperwork, etc. In due time, they gave me a report card on what was needed and an estimate for $8000 worth of work. I did have questions on what they proposed and expected some answers and clarification (had been assured when I first talked to them that they would answer "all my questions") but that is not what happened. They really didn't want any questions, just wanted to come and do the work, pretty much no questions asked or just "take our word for it" or "read this one page thing about the foam". As one previous respondent said, "they expected the business since they did the audit." GA Power later asked me why I didn't have them do the work. Quite simply, I wasn't satisfied with their followup. And as an HVAC contractor commented later: "it's a conflict of interest for the company doing the audit to then do the work." It's in their interest to make a big deal out of any issue. For example (I'm sure I'll get the terminology wrong here... not being an HVAC/insulation expert), it was presented as a major problem that I had 13% air leakage. But a later contractor said, "anything under 10% is fine so that's not much of a problem." Anyway, after three or four calls/questions, since I wasn't an easy sell, Bird quit returning my calls after referring to my job as a "custom" installation. I found later that some of the approved companies just do inspections. Again, not being an expert with energy tax credits, I didn't realize this or I would have gone with one of them to eliminate the "conflict". I ended up getting a new HVAC system and still need to work on the insulation. In process of doing that now.
Description of Work: Bird is on the approved contractor list for energy audits and insulation. Therefore, I scheduled an audit last year and wanted to get the work done to get the tax credit.

The energy audit went well. The company showed up as expected and within a week I had a through summary of what they recommended be done in my house to make it more energy efficient. I received my rebate (half the cost of the audit) from Georgia Power within a month of the audit being performed. I would have used them for the insulation work but they were not good about returning calls or answering questions. Their prices were also extremely high compared to other insulation contractors found on Angie's List. Because they are a certified BFI contractor, once they do the energy audit for you I think they must expect that you'll just take whatever estimate they throw out at you because if you don't use a BFI contractor you are not eligible for the Georgia Power rebates.

He did his audit and submitted it to the power company and got a $250 rebate. They rated the places as A B C D and I decided to go with him and he would be coming out to audit the roofing and my house in February. Their office environment is terrific. I called them and spoke to a lady and there was a little problem in the beginning and it was because there was a death in the family and I had problems about returning the phone calls. He knew what he was doing. The whole family is really sweet. I miss the Bird Family and I really recommend him and it seems like everybody in the family is involved in this business. I am glad that I picked him from Angie's List.

I am extremely pleased, expensive but I believe I got my money's worth. A true family business and they were very pleasant to deal with. Only time will tell if the bills are lower but the temp inside the house is very stable now, no matter what the temp is outside, at least so far. The furnace has not been running but it has not been very cold yet.

Actually, we were in the process of recieving quotes. The Bird Family representtive came out, took pictures and give use a full explanation of our situation. The gentleman made suggestions and was very honest. Although the price quoted was a little highter than my other estimates, it included additional fixes that basically balanced out in the end. Ultimately we chose another company. Not because of price; instead, we preferred just to have the fiberglass blown in opposed to the cellulous material. Strickly a personal preference. The Bird Family has excellent customer service demeanor and would recommend to anyone specifically requesting green products.
