A very young (inexperienced) maintenance technician arrived on time, but walked right across our lawn (a real no-no for my wife!) which started the call off on the wrong foot. He put on his "booties" when he entered the home which was nice and appreciated, especially since his boots got wet walking across the early morning lawn. He introduced himself and explained what he was there to do. I explained that we had a 3-zone system and showed him to the thermostats. He adjusted each thermostat to force the system to run so he could perform his "check up" procedure. I tried to tell him to use the "Hold Temperature" button but he adjusted the temps using the programming buttons which messed up my standard schedule. (I had to reset all three of them when he left because he didn't set them back up properly. No real big deal for me but it would have been a big deal if I didn't know how to operate my old Honeywell thermostats the way that I do.

Dear [member name removed], Thank you very much for taking a few minutes to post your concern on Angie's List. First of all, I would like to apologize for our technician walking across the lawn. This is not the way that we intend for them to arrive at your home and certainly not a professional representation of our company. Sounds like we need to do some training. Secondly, regarding the adjustment of your programming, it would have made more sense to just set and hold the temp to the desired set-point rather than get into the programming feature. Not only does this take him longer, but also is a frustration to you, the homeowner, when he forgets to re-set your program. Thank you for your comments as this will be very helpful in our Tuesday morning training meeting and I believe that our team will be better because of it. Call me anytime you have a concern and I look forward to taking care of all of your heating and cooling needs in the future. Sincerely, Bill Bell President

The air duct replacement was completed quickly. At first, the air ducts were quieter and seemingly performed better. However, since the installation the ducts have become noisy and there is no noticeable difference in the air distribution throughout the home. The main register rattles as well as a kitchen vent. The air duct replacement did qualify for an official utility company rebate and was supposed to improve airflow. The dust accumulation on the register has decreased and overall there may be a slight decrease in dust accumulation with the older ducts being quite dusty. The installation of the insulation was very expensive and there has been no noticeable difference in heat retention within the home. Insulation was added to the old to increase the r-value from around r-9 to r-38. Also, baffles were added along the sofitt vents to improve airflow inside the attic. Additionally, can lighting was sealed and entry-points for dust were also sealed (i.e. fan boxes, lighting fixtures). Newer can lights were sealed with spray foam and "tin caps." Old can lights were sealed with tape and spray foam. Insulation was spilled into a can light, which is a potentional fire hazard with no regard for safety. All in all the cost did not seem to justify the means, which improved the dust marginally. The work order was not followed per the customer's request, which resulted in a refund for work not completed. While each individual case is different, the cost vs. pros for this professional service seemed to outweigh any benefits. While this review is posted during the beginning of winter months, hopefully the heat retention from the added insulation will improve energy costs. The customer service was good, while the customer requests were not followed completely. We had to repeat the work details many, many times and this was not what we expected from a professional service. I would recommend this company for any A/C installation or duct work, however insulation would be skeptical.
Description of Work: Replaced 1980's era air ducts for the hvac system with flexible ducts. Installed baffles in attic and added insulation to "R-38" value. Applied to utility company for rebates for duct efficiency increase and insulation increase from an R-9 to R-38.

Dear [Member name removed], Thank you very much for your comments to Angie's List. I appreciate you taking the time to let us know your concern about the installation. I have spoken to Greg, your Home Performance Specialist about the price going up higher than the quote and he is following up with you about that because our policy is that we have "No Surprises" pricing and that what we quote is what you pay unless the customer decides to expand the scope of work. In reference to the Tin Mat covers not being sealed correctly, I would like to get our Installation Manager, Ken Davis out to your home to review the installation to make sure that it is safe and professionally done. I would also like for Greg to do a Duct Blaster Test to be sure that the ducts are still in tact and sealed as they were for your Post Test. We will also get the noisy air register taken care of to your satisfaction. I'm sorry that you had a negative experience with our team but I can assure you that we will do everything possible to get that resolved asap. Thank you very much! Bill Bell President

(UPDATE: Its been years since Energy Savers and the central air gas heater they tried to disable (so they could replace it with their expensive new one) is still running well. It still had no problems, is not dangerous, or needed any repairs since. They also did not provide my mother with space heaters and instead left her without heat for days during the winter until the old system they disabled had been reconnected and tested as ok by a reputable company. Their implying that system had problems is not true and a cover up for trying to scare and force a little old lady into buying their expensive replacement heating system.) Before I bore you with the details I wrote this because in my experience with Energy Savers of Columbus, I found them to be unethical and possibly fraudulent. My 80+ year old mother had a maintenance contract with Energy Savers of Columbus, GA to service her central natural gas heater and A/C system. I don't live in Columbus, but visit my mother at her home a couple of times a week. One winter Sunday I stopped by and her house was freezing cold. She explained that Energy Savers had come by earlier that week to do scheduled maintenance and turned off her heat. They had also sent out a salesman to offer her a new system to replace the disabled one for a few thousand dollars! I contacted Energy savers who gave me the run around, but they said their technician had found a problem with her heater and "by law" had to disable it. I'm a reasonable person so I can see that if it were dangerous, but I know for a fact the heater was working fine the day before they came for maintenance. They would not send someone out to enable the heater and would be days before they could replace it (funny the salesman had come the same day they disabled the heater). Since my mother had already gone a couple of winter nights without heat, I told them I would call them in the morning. I examined the heater and found no problems so I enabled the heater myself so that my mother would at least have heat that night. I also called the company I use for my home and had them come out the next morning to do an inspection. The heater worked fine all night and when the other inspector came he found nothing wrong with it. That heater has been working for a few years now without any repairs. The reason I had not reported this sooner is that I just rejoined Angie's List last month. Needless to say my mom fired Energy Savers. Left my shut in mother without heat for days during the winter and tried to scare her into buying an expensive replacement heater she didn't need. If trying to rip off little old ladies isn't bad enough, leaving them without heat in the winter in order to make a sale is about as low down as you can go. I need to verify then update the date and the cost of the system she didn't need. To their credit, they did offer her free maintenance for a year, but we could never trust them in the house again.

Response from Energy Savers of Georgia Inc
Dear (Member name removed), I really appreciate you taking the time to express your concern about your mother's home. From this post, I am unable to research the location of her home to determine what might have happened. It sounds like she either had a rusted out heat exchanger or face plate which would require us to condemn the furnace according to the Standard Mechanical Code. The furnace will run normally in this condition for an indefinite period of time but will potentially spill carbon monoxide into the home which is why we are required to shut it down. As far as why a sales rep is able to make it out the same day and an installation crew may be backed up for a couple of days, this fluctuates all year long depending upon the weather. Today ,1/16/14, we are able to respond with estimate calls on the same day and we are 2 days out on new unit installs. However, in the heat of the summer, we are normally booked 2-3 days out on estimates and 1-2 weeks on new installs. We also keep space heaters in our shop to use at no charge if someone chooses to have us install a new furnace as we do not want to leave someones system down during the cold or hot weather, especially the elderly. I am sorry that we have not had an opportunity to talk about this situation so that I could have sent a follow up tech to re-check the heat exchanger and make absolutely sure that there are no CO safety concerns. Regarding the ethics that we operate under at Energy Savers, I can assure you that we have never and will never attempt to mislead anyone in order to make money on the sale of a new system but will always put safety first even it means shutting the system down. Our technicians do not receive any compensation for the sale of a new furnace when one has been shut down as you have described so there is no personal benefit for him doing it. I can understand how you might have interpreted this event in such a negative light, but I can assure you that this is not a practice of Energy Savers and is not the way that we keep and grow our customers. If you have a moment, I would love to have a conversation regarding this service call and to introduce you to my dad,Wayne Bell and myself and I believe that you will find that we are the kind of people that believe in taking care of our customers in a professional and ethical manner. My office number is 706-324-1738. Thank you very much! Bill Bell President

They worked pretty well but I would have appreciated if they had called for a service appointment when they were on their way over. It was not like it was one of their quarterly visits. I don’t feel comfortable like saying it is less. They have come to my house only twice. Overall wish they had a little better service as far as notification. They are little pricey. But good for what they have done. The air-conditioning has not broken. They work on holidays too.

I have a contract with Energy Savers. Bill Bell, the owner, has always been very personable and professional. I chose this company because I know him and his family. They are a wonderful, happy and loving Christian family. They are also huge animal lovers. I have found Bill to be very honest in all the business dealings I have had with him. We had to have a new unit put in last summer. Bill came out to the house and showed us all of our options. He did not pressure us to buy the highest price, he just told us our options and what to expect. We opted for a higher end unit and oh my gosh...We have a total electric house and in June, July and August my electric bill has always run about $450.00 per month. I have been amazed at the difference in our electric bill. it went from $450.00 per month to $250.00 per month (for those who are curious the unit was $10,000). It will pay for itself. Every service person who has come out over the past few years have been friendly, polite and professional. I have never been unhappy with their work. They always provide a written estimate of costs, although almost pretty much everything is covered in the warranty/contract with them. I believe their prices are fair and the contract with them has been well worth every penny.

My experience with Energy Savers was very good. Given that I am in the military and stationed in Virginia, I coordinated this service entirely over the phone. It is my daughter who actually lives in the house, and oftentimes, finding trustworthy providers for this type of work is not easy to do when I don't live in the area. With the exception of having to wait about two and a half weeks to get an appointment (busy time of year for routine appointments), Energy Savers was professional from beginning to end. Their representative was very courteous on the phone and explained what I could expect from the technician who would perform the service. One feature I really appreciated was on the day of the appointment, they sent an email when the technician was dispatched that included a picture of the technician, so my daughter knew exactly who would be knocking at her door. The technician showed up at the scheduled time, and all work was completed in a prompt and efficient manner. I plan on setting up a regular service plan (spring and fall) with Energy Savers.

Professional, On time, Reliable, Excellent work, done right the first time! They even cleaned up before they left. These people really know what they are doing. They do it right. They do what they say, when they it will be done, and at a reasonable cost. They beat everyone else's estimates. My house has NEVER been cooler, they did the paperwork for GA Power rebates. The financing was 0%, can't get any better than that! I am so pleased with their work :)

I called Energy Savers after my 3.5 year old A/C unit had broken down for the 5th time. The previous company I was using kept fixing it, but it kept breaking down. After one inspection Energy Savers found the problem... the intake vent was too small for my unit. They cut a larger hole and replaced the small vent with a larger one and the system has been working seemlessly since. I am confortable saying that I should have to have another repair done on this system for quite a while.

I would recommend them to others. They were on time and the employees were clean, neat, and professional. They cleaned up after themselves. The sales person listened to my concerns and provided materials related to the concerns. They installed a register in our master bedroom, foyer, storage house, and porch. They installed insulation and did an energy audit. We had a problem with odor on the porch and closed up a register so that the scent would not come in the house. They did another energy audit to make sure everything was safe for my daughter. They installed a heat pump and new duct system. They also installed an attic zipper bag to keep us from losing heat. They obtained all the required permits from the city. They did what I asked them to do. They found a company that would allow me to pay the bill 36 months interest free. Keith Kinchen was our sales person. I told them there was a problem with our storage house and porch and they said someone would come out the next working day to look at our concerns. They wrote up the information with Georgia Power to give us a rebate because of the energy improvements.

Whenever we have had all this air caught in our attic we have had three different companies come out in the past year. One company didn't even think to check to see if the inside air was what the thermostat was reading and Energy Savers thought to check the inside air and the thermostat was bad. The air conditioning kept kicking on without realizing that the temperature gage was out. The first time they came and cleaned out everything and charged us for that thinking that would fix it when really, we just needed to change out our thermostat. It was a $70.00 service call to tell us that it was the thermostat that I would just change out myself.

The price is very reasonable for semi-annual checkup. Their price was considerably higher than I had quoted elsewhere in putting a water heater, but their quality is so good and I went ahead and used them. I would continue to use them and in fact I have recommended them to my daughter.

On 3 May 2012, I come home from work to find my AC not operating on my upstairs unit. I tried to change the filter and restart the unit and discovered that it was indeed broken. At around 8pm or so, I called Energy Savers and the dispatcher put me through to someone to take my service request. He explained that there was no one available to come over to my house until the following day and there would be a $68 charge for a diagnostic. I agreed to this. The next day (Friday) someone came over, explained the problem and told me someone would be calling soon to give me an estimate of repair cost. It was a FULL week later before I got that estimate. On Thursday, 10 May they called and left a message on my voice mail. I was unable to return the call until Friday. I was then informed of the estimate. All verbal, nothing emailed or faxed. To this day I haven?t seen anything on paper as to the cost of the repairs. I was informed that the part to fix my system couldn?t be ordered until Monday; keep in mind that makes 10 days without air conditioning in southern Alabama, and my repair won?t be scheduled until the part arrives. I?m looking at over 2 weeks without air conditioning. Have they been nice and professional? Absolutely. But they sure as heck are taking their time. Their sense of urgency is lacking. I honestly don?t see myself using this service in the future. I will update after the part is installed and my system is fixed. UPDATE: Further to my last posting. This morning (16 May 2012) I was called and told my part was in and they would like to schedule a time to make the repair. They asked me a good time and sarcastically I replied ?last week?. Taking the hint and understanding my frustration, he said he would get someone out to my house as soon as possible this very morning. True to his word, he did. Dominic again performed the work and had my AC up and running in no time. As it stands today my only two complaints are that it took so long to get me the estimate and that I was not offered a written estimate prior to making any decisions. I might use Energy Savers again in the future depending on the nature of the service needed. They were very friendly.

They're very nice and friendly. They special ordered the parts. There was no additional charge for the second visit, which I appreciated. They fixed it pretty quickly. He took the time to show us how to turn it on and off. It took a while for a part to come in, and it took several weeks later. They forgot to call us back. I had to remind them. I have had nothing but bad experiences with this company!
Description of Work: Technician checked out my old a/c and installed a "starter" to make the compressor come on. He also added refrigerant to the system. When the cold air stopped coming out of the registers two weeks later, I called Energy Savers to come back and re-check the system. (The compressor was still running.) Even though I had a service contract with the company, they told me there would be a full service charge to come back to my house, and that it probably wouldn't do any good anyway. DO NOT DO BUSINESS WITH THIS COMPANY, and whatever you do, do not waste your money on their service contract!!!!! In addition, I had gotten a quote from the company for a new air conditioner. Their price was over $5,000 to install a seer 13 unit, and that was just for the air conditioner. I found an HONEST company to do the job and they installed me a seer 14 air conditoner AND a new heater with new ductwork and a thermostat for $3500!!!!!!!!!!!! DO NOT DO BUSINESS WITH ENERGY SAVERS.

Response from Energy Savers of Georgia Inc
Member, I understand your concern and am sorry that you had a negative experience with our service dispatcher. We should have returned at your request to re-test the system and determine if something else might be wrong such as a freon leak or other minor repair. I regret that we didn't do that for you as we offer a 2 year warranty on all of our repairs. As far as the pricing for the new system goes, we quote new system replacements often that are more than our competition as well as less than our competiton. Sometimes this has to do with the Carrier brand being a little higher than some other brands and sometimes it has to do with the other work that is being proposed such as enlarging the return system, changing the refrigerant lines, the new outdoor pad and switchbox and emergency overflow system that we quoted in your replacement system. These types of improvements sometimes are overlooked by some of our competitors and therefore would make our pricing seem higher. I regret that we were unable to show you the value in trading with Energy Savers and wish that we had another opportunity to earn your trust. Please feel free to give me a call any time to discuss this situation or any further service needs that you may have. Yours truly, Bill Bell President

I bought and moved into a home that was bank owned. The whole home heating/cooling needed replaced as the outdoor unit had been stolen while on the market. I called Energy Savers and spoke with Keith Kinchen. Mr Kinchen arranged a time for inspection and estimate that was convenient, as my wife and I both work. Prior to arrival, Mr Kinchen called to confirm he was enroute. He arrived within minutes of what was scheduled. Mr Kinchen conducted a whole home inspection, discussed what he was looking for, and answered my questions. Finally, prior to departure, he informed me that he would write up a quote outlining "Good, Better, Best" systems that would meet our needs. The quote arrived within 1-3 days, and was detailed enough to show model numbers for equipment used and installation costs. Questions about the quote were always answered in a timely manner. After a few more quotes from competitors, I chose Energy Savers. The day of installation arrived, and Mr Kinchen arrived prior to the installation crew. We discusses any last minute changes. I requested a roof vent be added in order to provide the furnace fresh air, as I was planning to spray foam insulate the attic area at a later date. Energy Savers granted the request, and did the work on the same day as the unit install. The installation crew arrived on time and immediately prepared to commence the install. They prepped the worksite as well as the traffic area so as to minimize dirt and debris from being tracked through the home. Additionally, the crew used "booties" to cover their workshoes when traveling through the home. The installation took all day, but we were informed of that during the quote process. Installation was professional, prompt and courteous; other than seeing them move equipment from their trucks to the worksite, you hardly noticed them. When complete, they thoroughly recovered their tools, old equipment and trash from the exterior/interior. Post-installation support is great. The company trained me on the use of the programmable thermostat and advised me on the recommended temp setting for day and night settings for when we are home and away. Also, approx 2 weeks after install the company called to inquire about any questions and set up another inspection to confirm all was working as designed. I would highly recommend this company and would use them in the future.

We are on a maintenance program with them. They cover the routine maintenance for us and that is included in the cost of the program. The people they send are nice, except that I feel that when they replaced the duct work, the new duct work is not as effective as it should be dispersing the cool and the hot air as it should be. I have never brought it up to them before, and I should have. I would consider using them in the future, but would have a very serious conversation with them about the duct work and how it is not working correctly.
Description of Work: They come to our house twice a year to check out our system.

Dear Member, We will contact you to see what a good time will be to address the air balancing concern that you have. We have installed balancing dampers in the system to be able to make these adjustments once the system is installed. This is a normal procedure and is included in the price that you paid for the new duct system. I am sorry that we haven't already made these adjustments but will certainly have it scheduled asap at your convenience. Thank you very much for your patience and your confidence in Energy Savers. You are a valued customer and we appreciate your business. Yours truly, Bill Bell President

Salesman presented all options, no pressure. Workmen came - did work - left house perfect. Technician came next day and took lots of time explaining new system. The company filled all paperwork out for any rebates which I received promptly.
