They called us a week later and apologized for taking so long to get back to us. They explained that they have been swamped with septic issues. I was hoping for a quicker response since when I called initially, I explained that after the recent heavy rain, we lost the use of both of our toilets. I really wanted to give a Harris County business my first look since that's where we live. A phone call earlier to tell us they haven't forgotten about us would have been nice. Even a recommendation for a portable toilet provider would have really helped us during that time. Right now, our toilets are working again. Tommy did give us some very useful information when we finally spoke with him and it led us to visit the county health department to get information about the septic plan for our neighborhood. I guess if you're experiencing issues with your septic system, before hiring someone to do any major work on it, you should check with the health department (if you live in a housing area) to learn the specifics regarding the septic plan for your area. That could prove to be a valuable piece of information because now they are sending someone out to evaluate our situation and tell us if it can be repaired or if it needs to be replaced. We will probably use Tommy Chambliss Construction if we have to repair or replace out system. There are less expensive companies out there, especially on the Alabama side, but they're not all licensed to work on septic tanks in Georgia, so if anything goes wrong, you could end up paying more than you bargained for.
Description of Work: Took my information over the phone yesterday morning and said she'd have Tommy call us.

It took awhile because it was a big job, but they checked in with me periodically and kept me informed of the progress.
Description of Work: We had just purchased a home and soon after moving in experienced a terrible flood in our basement from the septic backing up. Chandliss Construction was recommended by the emergency clean up crew to do a septic pump, and thank goodness we did. Apparently the septic was in dire shape and had no water in it. It was one of the worst ones they'd ever seen or tried to pump. They were very gracious about it and we were very thankful for their help. We wanted to start off living in our new home with a healthy system and they helped us to do that. It was a difficult job. They apologized for having to charge us a little more, but I know they earned it. I will use their company again when we have our septic regularly maintained and serviced, like apparently it never had been before we bought the place!

Description of Work: We called and he came the next day. We had just bought a house and wanted to have the septic tank serviced. It was a good thing we did! It was full! He spent time explaining how to care for the system since we had never had one before. Very friendly. Would definitely call him again.

My wife had been noticing septic odors in our home for a few weeks. Of course I didn't take it seriously until I was home for the Holidays and started smelling it myself. After some research, I learned that septic tanks should be pumped every 5 years or so. We had bought the house new 8 years ago and the septic tank had never been pumped. I called Chambliss Construction at 6:00 PM on the 27th of Dec. and left a voicemail. My call was returned within minutes by a secretary (I think this was Tommy Chambliss's mom) asking what time the next day would be convenient for Tommy to call. When I spoke with Tommy the next day, I explained my issues with the odors. He explained that odors could be a septic problem but not necessarily. He also told me that the State of Georgia recommends tanks being pumped every 5 years for a family of 4 (we have 5) and that garbage disposals can accelerate this time frame (we have one). He quoted a price of $350 for a basic pump out and more if something else was wrong like a broken filter or heavy roots. I asked him to come by figuring at the very least my tank was due for a pump out. He said he would be at my house between 8:30 and 9:00 AM the next morning. Tommy and one assistants arrived a few minutes to 9:00. I had a good idea of where my tank was so locating only took a few minutes. Tommy used a probing rod to locate the edges of the tank and then marked two points on the ground where each of the access manholes would be. Apparently new tanks have two chambers and both have to be pumped out. They cut my sod with a shovel and laid it back. They then placed the excavated dirt on a tarp. The first manhole was about 30-inches deep and the second about 12-inches. When the first lid was removed it was filled to the top. Tommy told me it was one of his top 10 for the year with the amount of crud in there. Diaper wipes and septic tanks do not mix. We have three kids under 7 and as careful as I thought I was in insisting that wipes go in the trash, apparently a few hundred slipped by me in 7 years. The pumper truck had a 100 foot hose, so they were able to park in my driveway and pull the hose through the fence. Pumping took about 20 minutes. (Diaper wipes slow the process down). They inspected my filter and said it looked good and was installed level. It did have some paint on it. (Don't wash paint brushes in the house if you have a septic system - it is bad on the filter.) They replaced the lids, filled the holes and replaced the sod. Outside of a few Georgia Red Clay stains on the grass, you cannot tell they were even there. Afterwards, Tommy went over some maintenance tips - no diaper wipes, no paint, limit what you put in the garbage disposal, etc. He also gave me the name of a plumber that was good at tracking odors in case the septic pump-out did not reduce the odors. The time between when he arrived and I wrote the check was less than an hour. I was very pleased.
Description of Work: 1500 gallon septic tank was pumped and cleaned by Chambliss Construction, Inc. This involved locating the tank, digging up (by hand) two access manholes and pumping out the tank.

I called the company at 1700 on Wednesday night and reported the problem of my tank and lines backing up into the house. The office said that they could have someone out the following day at approx. 1300. The next day at 1400, I had to call to confirm and up date the arrival time. The service team arrived at approx. 1630. The quickly located the access point for the tank and pumped it clean. They also discovered that the tank had some root issues and cut they away. As the new home owner and this is my first sepic tank, I had many questions and they had the answers. I did a internet check of the answers and found that they were spot on. The crew was professional and courteous. The cleaned up after themselves and left without a trace of their work.

Quick but messy
Description of Work: One week after my septic was pumped, my girlfriend had hers done by another company. Not only was it cheaper, but they replaced the grass as it was before the digging. All I was left with was a dug up yard. And I'm pretty sure he had illegal aliens doing the work.

I do apologize that this customer was not satisfied with our services. We are a family business and we strive to have a good reputation. Our prices are usually in line with other contractors. A simple phone call and any mess left by us would have been corrected. As a rule when our company leaves a job site you can hardly tell we were there.

Tommy Chambliss took the time to explain each detail of how a septic works and even called his father (who has 47 years of construction and septic experience) to stop by our house and see the faulty wiring that somehow passed the inspection before we bought the house. Tommy explained how to fix the faulty wiring and took extra time (which he didn't bill us for) to explain the codes and give us ideas on how to make repairs while keeping within our budget. We ended up with three generations of Chambliss men in our yard - all were hard working, knowledgeable, and fair. We would definitely recommend their services to others in west-central Georgia.

Mr. Chambliss was right on time (they came on a day I had off for other reasons, fully accommodating my schedule) and absolutely the best example of professionalism in something that can be a tough job. He and his crew worked quickly and did a fine job. He was eager to answer any question I had, including the best things to do to extend the periods between clean outs. He came recommended by a friend/neighbor, so I did not obtain an estimate prior to the work.

Just a quick note on the oil leaking in the driveway, a tarp is placed under the truck now to prevent that. We apologize.
