This arborist is highly recommended. Mark discussed and explained my tree problem from a professiobnal arborist's point of view. He explained the issue with my tree and what remedies were or were not advisable. He is very polite, well versed and obviously very knowledgable. He took all the time needed to discuss the issue at hand and did not hurry in any way. His response time was also very quick and to the point. If you need and arborist, call Mark.

I do not like using companies for tree work that will damage my trees or create future problems by cutting them in the wrong places. Tree work is not just physical labor, one must also have the know-how to do the job correctly and avoid weak areas in the tree that can cause property damage later on. 770-Arborist is run by an arborist, and he has other arborist(s) on staff, as well. From my first call to Mark Russel, the owner, he was a fantastic communicator. I quickly became assured that he knows exactly what he is doing. He spoke to me in detail about the issues I was having and the work that needed to be done, and about his strategies for handling various problems. He gave me a quick quote on the work after I sent him several pictures of the problem areas. Even though they were having problems with a truck, he told me it would be done by July 4. After a few days, I called to check in and see if we were still on the schedule, and he said that, due to the rain we were having, he couldn't come out on the day we had scheduled, but would likely be out on Sunday (!) or Monday after July 4 to complete the work. Today, July 4, he and another certified arborist showed up at my house and did the job within about an hour and a half! I was not expecting him to show up here on a holiday, but he did. I am confident that my trees will be healthy after this work-- they took great care in climbing into the tree without damaging it, and cut what they needed to cut to make sure the tree would remain strong. On the second tree, they were able to cut the weak limb without climbing into the tree at all. I would definitely use this service provider again!
Description of Work: Took down a limb from a maple tree that had split about 20' up from the base. Took down a second limb that was mostly dead on another tree. Removed debris and cleaned up the area.

Mark made sure he answered all our questions as he walked the property with us. We have several poorly placed trees that are close to the house, so it makes finding a "good" solution difficult. I'm sure we'll be able to work something out though.

Mark and his team are great at what they do. They are very knowledgeable in their field and provided excellent customer service going above and beyond just being one of the 300+ "tree" companies in Atlanta. In fact, I would say there are two types of tree companies in Atlanta, (1) those who care about your trees and trying to do what's best for a tree, and (2) those who simply exist to cut trees down. 770-Arborist definitely falls into the first group which is by far a very small select group. The other great aspect of Mark's company is when they don't do some of the more specialized tree care work, he provides recommendations to other trusted companies and he will personally help make the transition easy and smooth providing the company we selected with his assessment and details of work they performed. One last thing, you can be sure that the price they quote is competitive. We received 2 other bids from companies in both categories and they were very competitive and not the most expensive. If you property is graced by really beautiful old trees, do yourselves a favor if you plan to do pruning or other tree care work, hire an experienced arborist to assess the right work to be done and have them oversee the work. The other two company's we got bids from both said to me "you don't need an arborist, we know what needs to be done." I explained both companies' recommendations to Mark and he provided authoritative counter opinions that illustrated that had i let the other company's do the work, I would have let them injure my tree even further. Thanks Mark for your assistance and i'm really glad your company exists. We look forward to working with you in the future!

I called upon 770 Arborists strictly based on their Angies list reviews. I got a call back from owner Mark Russell very promptly. He had numerous conversations with me on the nature of my job, and offered to help me mitigate the cost of my job with my insurance company. He spoke with them in depth on my behalf about the nature of the job, and the requirements such a large and dangerous job would entail. He submitted a full proposal to them in an attempt to have them recompense me for all of my tree removal expenses. Ultimately, they did not claim that my policy would cover me for such a large loss, and I ended up having to pay for most of the tree removal out of my own pocket. For this reason, I had to choose a different company which was able to offer me a large discount based on previous work they had done with me. I regret not being able to use Mark Russell of 770 Arborists, and I hope I can do so in the future. He is one of the kindest and more importantly to this cause, MOST knowledgeable Tree experts I have ever had a conversation with. He was fully supportive of me in our talks and had no hard feelings toward me in having to choose another service provider. His company is top notch in my book.

Description of Work: Mark spent approximately 30 minutes of his valuable time looking at my trees via Google Earth and providing a superior tree education. Response from 770-Arborist
I'm smiling... I love to see folks take the time to share their experiences. Understanding our clients short, medium, and long term plans with their house often times changes the recommendations that we give. This particular client let me know that she would likely be listing her house shortly. Her work was going to cost a couple thousand dollars and she likely would not have seen a return on that investment upon it's sale. I've been in the tree business since 1997 and I can't emphasize enough how important it is to NOT just get a commission based salesman out to give a bid on a job. Commission based salesman simply have too much of a bias too many times. About 90% of the time, we are recommending things to our clients that don't necessarily benefit us financially. Literally, 90% of the time. If you have a fixed scope job, sure, will come out and give you a free estimate. By fixed scope, what I mean is you point at the tree and say "this is what I need done". But if you're asking or seeking advice, I would highly recommend hiring a consultant. Otherwise, the bias that comes with commission-based salesman many times will prevent them from telling you what's best for your tree simply because they're scared that they won't close the job fearing that the other commission-based salesman will also give you bad advice in order that they could close the job. That entire cycle leads to a lot of bad tree work happening and this is the reason we charge a nominal fee for the consultation where, at your option, you can have that consultation fee added toward any future tree work that you might have us bid on. This is 100% optional so that you know we're not out there to "bid" on your tree work. Our first and foremost priority is to get you the best information so that your trees stay in the best helth that they possibly can.

He told me his opinions on my tree based on a photo I sent. I was very impressed with his knowledge. We checked his first suggestion and it was exactly right! The job went very well. Mark's crew was fantastic. They were very professional and very skilled. We had very tall trees and the expertise of the climber was amazing. This was a dangerous job and required a highly skilled crew. Any of the trees and/or limbs could have severely injured or even killed his crew members. While the price felt a little expensive when we first saw the quote, after watching the skill of his crew, we completely understand the costs. We were mesmerized watching the guys navigate the ropes, climb the trees, and dispose of huge limbs. The crew finished a 2 day job in 1 day and did a great job cleaning up. Mark followed up later to make sure we were satisfied with the job. We will definitely use him again!
Description of Work: We started with an assessment that was one of Angie's List Big Deals. Our assessment was scheduled within 48 hours of purchasing the deal. Mark toured our property and spent ample time with my husband discussing all of our trees. He is very knowledgeable and was able to identify trees that needed immediate attention, trees that we need to watch, and trees that we thought were a problem, but in fact were not. That alone was a huge relief because we have been very concerned about several of our trees. We have ALOT of trees. Mark recommended cutting down 4 trees and pruning several branches. He was especially concerned about 2 of the trees and the branches on several of the trees because we have kids and these trees were major safety hazards. He supplied a quote within 24 hours and we had the work done and completed within 1 week.

The owner of the company, Mark scheduled an appointment for an estimate with me and showed up on time as he said he would. I had also scheduled an estimate with another tree company for the day before my meeting with 770-Arborist, for a second opinion where they recommended work that was nearly double the cost of 770-Arborist. Upon my appointment with Mark, the owner of 770-Arborist he reviewed the work the other company had recommended and advised their plan was far to aggressive and may actually damage the trees. I chose to have 770-Arborist to do the work not because they were less expensive, but because I truly believe they cared about the long term health of my trees above how much work they could create and money they could make. 770-Arborist spent longer than they had estimated completing the job and never asked or suggested wanting more money. I would highly recommend 770-Arborist to anyone who is looking to have tree work done or for a second opinion for the health and welfare of your trees; if your care as I do.

Mark was a true pleasure to work with. He came by for the initial consultation and answered all my questions about some trees in our backyard that had some dying areas. He suggested several ways to trim the trees myself, but ultimately I decided to have him come back and take care of the trees for me. His team came out and did a great job except for a few places that were missed in the areas that were dying. When I called to discuss it he stood by his satisfaction guarantee and ultimately came back to trim out the dying areas, going above and beyond what I expected. I trust Mark and would definitely hire him again for any tree related issues.

It went great. I learned a lot and have a much higher level of comfort with the knowledge that the trees are healthy and are unlikely to do damage to our house or our neighbors. At my request, I was provided with with some maintenance recommendations and a quote to perform them. The difference, and the reason I chose 1-770-Arborist in the first place, is that the business lines are separate. Mark's philosophy matches mine. Get/give expert advise on the health and real risk independently of the sale of pruning or tree removal services. The authenticity carries more weight, and when it is time for action, I know where I'll turn.

I decided to call an arborist after a winter storm caused several large limbs to fall in the front and back yards of my new home (There was also a large tree that needed pruning). Having kids that play in the yards it was important to go with a reputable, high rating company. After much research I called 1-770-Arborist ISA Certified Arborists and got a call back from Mark. Mark was on time, polite and professional. He gave me a very detailed assessment of every tree on the property. Prior to the assessment I knew nothing about trees but after Mark was done felt as though I had taken a full tree course in just 30 minutes. He pointed out things going on with the trees and limbs that my untrained eye never noticed before. Most importantly, Mark came across as a professional who really wanted to educate me about the trees in my yard. As a matter of fact, his company does not service my area for tree removal. Yet, Mark took his time and gave a full assessment that included the recommendation to remove a dying tree as soon as possible. The tree assessment gave me peace of mind in knowing what is going on with the trees as well as what to expect in the future. Regarding the pruning of one tree, Mark did a fantastic job. No complaints, the tree looks great. Superb customer service. Great work.

I purchased a big deal for this service and they did a fine job. I was not aware the big deal coupon was only good if I contracted with them for more work than the coupon was valued at. Somehow when they came out he was angry with me because all the work that I wanted done was just to have the limbs cut back from my home. He told me it was not worth it because it cost him more than the value of the coupon to bring a truck out. The work that he did was fine, but he was just not happy with me. At that time, I thought the price was pretty good. I mentioned to him that he should adjust the language in his coupon to suit the circumstances. I told him it was very misleading to me. I guess I got my money's worth. I was not real impressed with his professionalism, but that is probably more my fault than his.

Even though this was a small job Mark took the time to walk around my property and point out potential problems to be aware of. He was professional in his work and pleasant to interact with. I purchased one of the deals for $125 and wrote Mark a check for $121 for a total of $250 for advice on whether to just cut the tree because of its proximity to the house or to have it just pruned. Mark advised pruning was all that was necessary. A relief for me because I didn't want to have to cut down completely the tree.

Mark came out and looked at all of my trees near my house. He also looked at a tree that had been damaged by a delivery truck. He was able to tell me that tree would likely heal and what to watch for to make sure. He was very knowledgeable and educated me about what to look for on the trees near my house. I had one dead tree near my fence and one tree in my backyard that lost the top in a recent storm. They removed those trees and cut them up. They also cut up the top of the tree that fell. They worked around my schedule and were able to do the work in about 5 hours. The tree cutters were also professional and knowledgeable and were able to do the tricky removals without hitting my fence or anything near by.

I love seeing reviews about PAID assessments. This client had 5 awesome 150 year old Oak trees. After discussing budget concerns, as well as expected timeframe living in the house, I was able to give him some insight in how to get the most work done for the least amount of money. Bottom line is that a commission-based salesperson simply could not and would not have given the same advise, because to do so would have meant that they did not get paid. Tree work is expensive, and there are a LOT of great salesmen in the business, but in certain cases where advise is needed, the bias of commission is ill suited. If I am going to "sell" anything, it's this: buy our consultation service so you can get non-biased answers from experienced arborists. This small upfront costs will save a lot in the long run.

They can be a little hard to get in contact with because they are in the field, but keep trying because they are great! I would definitely use them in the future. Their rates were competitive and really good. They were super nice and this turned out really, really well! They were on time and our yard looked cleaner after they were here. We had them cut down trees, but they cleaned up really well and brought blowers. They did an amazing job and our neighbors actually called them for additional work! Excellent. Mark saved me lots of money because I was going to have some tree work done that he basically recommended against doing. He wasn't trying to sell any tree work so he didn't have a vested interest in telling me to do the work. He did alert me to certain conditions and pointed out several items that needed attention and most of it was stuff I can do my self. On others, he told me to just be alert to the issue but no work was needed at this time. The items we discussed he put in various risk levels so I could understand if it was something I needed to do right away or defer. The money I spent was well worth it and, the work I thought I needed, I will defer or not do at all. Great value for the money spent. I would gladly hire his service in the future if I have any doubt about what I need to do re the trees on my property. Highly recommend him. Upon reflection, the only comment I would make is Mark should add the numerical digits to his phone listing for people like me who don't know how to spell arborist. :)

There are a few blind faith areas in our lives - for many of us that includes car repair, home reno contract work, and for almost all of us, that list includes trees. We have to hope that Angie's list can provide us with people who are knowledgeable, accountable and honest in the way they do business. Mark is exemplary in all of these points. He runs his business in an admirably accountable way that almost made me wish that we had more work for him, but he was honest enough to report that we had no immediate safety issues on our property. He also was resourceful in finding a way to make the inspection , because this property was out of his usual work area. He comes highly recommended from someone who believes that people should be experts in their field and human in their nature . Response from 770-Arborist
Wow! Thanks for sharing with the A.L. community! I've done my best to run as transparent as possible. And you are correct, people don't know about there trees. This is why we've set our business up via the consultation model to educate and inform them as best as we can. If I am able to earn their pruning/removal/fertilizing work, great! But if not, its no big deal. I prefer to bring real value on every interaction via the consultation model (by removing the bias of commission based sales) because it feels so much better! Thanks again for sharing!
