I highly recommend Mark / 770 Arborist. I had been putting off getting several large limbs trimmed that were overhanging and touching my roof until the inevitable happened and one of them fell Friday night. Found Mark on Angie's List, called him at 8:00pm on Friday and he and his crew were at my house Sat morning at 8:30am. Mark gave great advice on how to trim the limbs to ensure the health of the trees, and the crew did a great job. Can't say enough good things about my experience with them.
Description of Work: Mark/ 770 Arborist trimmed several large limbs overhanging and touching my roof from 50 trees next to my house. They also removed a small tree and prunned others.

The reason I selected Mark Russell of 770-Arborist was because of his ranking and positive customer comments on Angie's List.. When I called Mark for an estimate he responded quickly and gave me his professional opinion about a tree that gave me concern because it was leaning over my house. He quoted $925 for cutting it down and disposing of the branches and the trunk in a nearby ravine on my property. The work began on Sunday afternoon, but Mark wasn't feeling well after a couple of hours into the job. He reassured me that because he and his crew could not finish the job that day, his alternate team would finish it up no later than Wednesday of that week. In fact, by 8:00 the following morning, a new crew was back and finished the job in a few more hours. All the branches and trunk were placed as we had discussed, and the crew blew all the chips off my roof and deck when they were done. Everybody on his team was pleasant, courteous, and knew exactly what they were doing. Mark confessed that although he may have misquoted the job on the low side, he would stick by his original quote, which he did.I have several more trees on my property that need attention, and Mark is the person I will call to take care of them for me when the time comes.

Reviews like these are my favorite!!!!! After 15 years I shoot myself in the foot on a quotes less (thankfully). Not all jobs turn out profitable. There is no doubt that yours was one of them. But at the end of the day (or better said "life"), we all know in our heart that life is not about money. It's about doing what's right, even when it hurts. After 3 hours into the job, at 75 feet up your tree, and facing 4 more hours, the temptation to feel differently certainly was there. It was at that point, I knew I needed to come down and simply take the hit. Sure, not climbing/finishing the tree it myself caused a net loss for the company on that one job, but to have your A review even after that makes it 100% worth it! Thanks for taking the time to share! Mark 770-Arborist

After speaking with several tree service providers on Angie's list, I decided to give Mark Russell a call even though he is located a bit far away from my address. I had a large pine approximately 70-80 feet tall and 20 inches in diameter to break about 15 feet above ground and fall into the top of a pin oak tree about forty-five feet away. The pine broke in such a way that there was still a considerable hinge of wood on the pine in the direction in which it fell. This was a difficult removal job under the best of circumstances, since I wanted to preserve the pin oak. The job was critical as the pine fell such that it was exactly directly above my well, which is located near the pin oak. Any further shifting or breaking and this massive pine trunk would have wiped out the piping from our deep well and possibly damaged the well casing and the pipe string that holds the well pump in place some 400+ feet below ground level. There was no time to waste in having this hazard removed owing to the imminent danger to persons and/or the only water supply to our home. I explained the situation to Mark over the phone. He was immediately able to pull up a Google Earth image of our home, but since our property is heavily treed, he could not be sure of the exact placement of the downed tree. At his suggestion, I went out and videoed the area showing the break in the pine, the top of the pine in the pin oak, and how the massive trunk was about 25 feet directly overhead of the well. I sent the video to him via the Internet. He immediately phoned back as soon as he had received and viewed the video. From this, he quoted me a price range of from $1,200 to $1,700 depending on a more thorough examination of the pine. I suggested that I could possibly erect some sort of barrier around the well head and the pipes which emerged from it using solid concrete blocks and a 3/4" piece of plywood. He said that he would be out early the very next morning as it was a 60 mile drive for him. I said I would be up early to pick up the necessary materials from Home Depot to erect some sort of makeshift protection of the wellhead. Mark arrived just after 8 AM, a few minutes after I returned from Home Depot with $50 worth of concrete blocks and a 2'x4' sheet of 3/4" plywood. His crew consisting of Erin Capanelli and Ian (a very hard working helper, who was never idle during this whole operation) arrived a few minutes later. They constructed the barrier as per my suggestion, but said that they were going to try to bring the pine down without hitting the pump. As it turned out, they very nearly did. By mid-morning, Erin had the top was out of the downed pine some 40 feet up in the pin oak and obstructing stubs and branches were trimmed. The critical task was to bring down the pine by cutting the base and allowing the 15 feet of upright and the remaining 50 feet in the pin oak to pivot over and down with the top of the pine lashed to the pin oak. The condition of the pine was very bad in that it was fairly weak and dry, but still weighed in the neighborhood of 10 -12 thousand lbs. When they cut and pulled the pine over using block and tackle, the trunk of the pine broke about 8 feet down from where the top had been lashed to the upper part of the pin oak. This unexpected break allowed the rest of the massive pine trunk to fall straight down, though most of the trunk of the pine had been pulled out from the direct line above the wellhead by allowing the bulk of the pine to pivot on the hinged break in the pine trunk mentioned earlier. In doing so, the falling trunk just clipped an inch or so of the corner of the concrete block and wood barrier over the wellhead. The plywood sheet went flying, a single expendable, concrete block at the base of the stack was cracked, but there was absolutely no damage to the well beneath. Since we live on a very wooded lot and as previously agreed they winched the pine logs deep into the woods in our side yard, trimmed and cleaned up the pin oak as per my directions, and then cleaned and chipped all the massive debris from the pine. As agreed, they blew the chips into our woods as well where they are hardly noticeable. They policed up the area, generally leaving it better looking than it was before the pine fell. In this, Ian did the lion's share of the work, and he did an excellent job. They removed the concrete block barrier and replaced our insulated fake rock cover on our well pump as per my direction and to my satisfaction. I asked as a favor if they would chip a large pile of dead wood that I had been gathering from the yard for several years, which Ian readily did. Having finished this job, I asked Mark what he would charge to remove a large oak limb that extended over our garage, where the lower limbs brushed our relatively new shingle roof. This limb which accounted for about a third of the crown of the oak is situated about 50 up from our driveway level. He quoted me a price of $475 and said that they would take off most of the offending lower branches. After a very quick lunch, the crew returned and Mark using rigging alone quickly went up about 60 feet, tied off and supported each large branch to be removed, so as each was cut, it could be lowered to the driveway without damaging or otherwise touching or impacting the roof. All in all they spent about two plus hours removing the offending limbs. Both Mark and Erin are arborists and not just tree cutters. Both advised not to cut all of the massive limb from the oak. This limb comprised so much of the crown that it would likely have damaged the health of the tree overall. A weakened tree would soon become a real hazard and not just the potential hazard that it was at that moment. As such, the remaining limb is much lighter owing to the removal of more than half of the lower branches and is now well above the roof with only a minimal overhang. Following that and the clean up and chipping, we asked if they would remove some of the lower limbs on another pin oak tree adjacent to the drive. Erin quickly had those lower limbs off, and Ian converted them into chips. All in all they finished up finally around 4:30 PM. They expertly resolved and disposed of our broken pine, and trimmed two other trees as per our request. These guys know what they are doing. They are not just your average crew, who will inexpertly butcher your trees, who will take unnecessary risks on your job, or who take shortcuts, but a crew who works safe (hard hats, safety ropes, gloves, and ear protection), who have both the knowledge and the ability to do a job correctly, and will generally leave your property considerably better than they found it. They are honest, friendly, personable, and intelligent, and it shows. Great job done by great guys. For this service, I was happy to give them their asking price for the work they did plus a little lagniappe to boot. I would not hesitate to recommend Mark Russell or Erin Capanelli to anyone who needs tree service by someone who knows what they are doing, who are honest, and who are fairly priced experts.

Did not utilize service as explained above.
Description of Work: I did not use this service because I could not get any information on pricing from them. I asked about a mobilization fee, no answer. They want to charge you $149.00 to do an assessment of the trees on your property that could be a hazard to your house, this is probably a good price but beware that having an Arborist do an assessment of this type may cause legal issues for you with your insurance provider should a tree that the Arborist listed as dangerous later fall and damage your home. You may want to look into the insurance company's policy on a homeowners liability if he is aware of trees that may be in a other than healthy condition and the homeowner did nothing to correct the problem. Of course if you do everything the Arborist indicates needing to be done, you won't have any issues. I am just not sure if I can afford a cost that I cannot have any control over.

Thanks for the feedback. You are correct, $149 is a great price, and this fee is completely removed from the total if we are hired to do the work. After 15 years i've seen hundreds, if not thousands of trees killed because unethical tree work (like spiking when pruning). But I was unable to talk about these things as a "salesman" because people would think I was trying to elevate my service to make a sale. (Nobody like hearing one company smash on another). However, the reality is that trees get killed every day in Atlanta due to unethical decisions made by tree guys. Seeing these things, I decided to start charging the $149 up front to cover my costs, that way, even if I didn't land the job, I could still provide a 100% unbiased recommendation. Trees are an asset and need to be properly taken care of, thus, I have intentionally exited the commission-based salesmen scenario, as it is simply not conducive to providing a completely objective course of action for proper tree care needs. We have pages and pages of "A" ratings from those who hired seeing that our prices are very competitive and quality is uncompromising. Thanks again for your feedback

The guys did a great job felling the tree. They operated safely, efficiently and for a very reasonable price.
Description of Work: They cut down a very tall, dead pine tree from a tricky position. It required them to climb the tree and take it down in sections, being very careful with the placement of pieces so as to no fall on a fence 3 feet away and several homes in a neighboring property.

I contacted Mark after checking Angie's List to remove a very large limb that has fallen during a recent rain storm. He responded quickly and came out the next day to do the work. Total satisfaction is the result.

We had a number of trees which were dead or dying in our backyard and some very large hardwoods which were inhibiting sun from entering the yard. I called Mark to get an estimate on tree removal. Mark arrived at our house a couple days later and asked us a lot of questions. He really wanted to understand what we wanted to accomplish and he went over all our options. Mark spent well over an hour with us walking our property and ended up coming up with a plan neither my husband nor I had thought of. He recommended the removal of 4 trees and raising the limbs on two others. Mark sent me the estimate the next night and scheduled the job. Mark and 2 others arrived on time and started to work. As the work progressed I decided I really wanted two other smaller trees removed and I wanted the canopy raised on another tree. I asked Mark if he could fit it in and he said sure. The team did a great job, working in a confined space (it's not a big yard) with us hovering around and our dogs barking sporadically. They graciously answered our questions and cleaned up every limb. Mark, Zack and Matt did a fantastic job. I highly recommend this team of professional, hard-working, dedicated, careful, friendly gentlemen to do tree work at your home or business. I will definitely be calling them again when we need additional work done.

Wow!!! You DID give the review!! Thanks. We work really hard to ensure that each review is an "A" rating. Many times the clients dont even know the technical difference, nor why it is harder/cost us more to perfor the work the way we do. In this particular case, I was paying attention and waiting for the review because of the extra work we had put in. There were quite a few dead branches that were not included in the scope of the job, but it felt weird leaving them. So took the extra time to prune them out. Running a small shop allows us the time margin to treat your trees the same as we would treat ours. And this is really important in pruning. Thanks for telling the world about our work!

I contacted the Arborist (Mark) because of a large tree that fell in our backyard. Mark spent a significant amount of time analyzing the situation and consulting with me on what to do. He is very technically savvy, which made it easy to send pictures and videos of the situation to get an idea of our problems BEFORE anyone even came out to view it. Mark did come out and personally review our yard, providing important insight into the various approaches being considered. In the end, he decided NOT to bid on the job, but recommended other reputable companies to use. He gave me the tools I needed to make the best, safest decision. He is the person I would call first for any tree related problems.

I found the information provided very useful. He not only gave a very comprehensive and easy-to-understand account of what I needed to do but provided useful information about the provider community that helped me select a provider for the work. I think that this kind of moderately priced, independent analysis was a really good tool for me to ensure that I wouldn't be buying more services than I actually needed. I would recommend this service to others needing tree work done.
Description of Work: The Arborist provided consulting services by conducting an assessment of the health of the trees on my property. I had one very large and obviously dead oak to be taken down and was shopping for providers when I found the Arborist whose specialty is providing consultative services about what services are actually needed. For more than a hour he conducted a tour of my property and provided detailed information about the condition of the trees, the indicators for action, and what actions might be needed in the future but safely deferred for now.

I realize that most people will not be cutting down or pruning large trees. My kids love to climb this particular tree and since I've been up in the tree myself a few times, I decided to a least consider thinning it out myself. I greatly appreciate Mark giving me wonderful guidance in getting the job done myself. His quote was in line with other services, but his willingness to offer advice and instruction over the phone is way above what any of the other services provided. If I change my mind about DIY, I will definitely hire his company to do the work.
Description of Work: I need a tree trimmed to save the sod underneath and near the tree. I'm on a really tight budget, so I've been shopping around for the cheapest tree service. I spoke with Mark who understood my situation, and he gave me specific information on how I could do the job myself!! Hey Member! Thanks for the review. Let me know if you run into any problems or have anymore questions. Obviously, I LOVED climbing trees when I was a kid, and to see you taking the time to prune your bradford, rather than remove it is awesome. Trees grow so fast in the south that many folks just opt to remove and grow new onesw. But your kids would be too old to enjoy them if you had done that. Trees are good! Be careful with the saw and cuts and again, if you have any other questions, dont hesitate to call!. Thanks again for the referal.

You will be amazed at the clean up these guys perform. I high recommend Mark and his crew and will use him again.
Description of Work: Mark took out several small trees, carted away several large downed trees, and remove to large difficult trees.

The entire process was fantastic. We had a tornado run through the woods behind our back yard on Labor Day. I called Mark and talked directly to him. He lived nearby, and was at my house to survey the damage approximately 15 minutes after our call. The tree involved was about 24 inches in diameter, and about 70 to 80 feet tall. It had fallen over (directly towards our house), but got hung up partially in another large oak tree. If it slipped, it was going to come into our house. Mark carefully and professionally surveyed the problem and the complexity it entailed. He gave me a proposal for the removal of the tree, which involved climbing the tree it was hung up in and partially pruning it back, along with cutting down the the offending tree. He explained the entire process to me, and provided me with his proof of liability and workers compensation insurance, and I authorized the job. He was able to determine that the tree was not in any immediate danger of falling, unless we had another severe storm, and that he would be able to have it down on Wednesday, two days later. Unfortunately, I had to go out of town when he was doing the work, but when I checked with my neighbor, he said that things seemed to be going well. When my wife got home that evening, she called me to rave about how the back yard never looked so good. Mark and his crew not only removed the large, dangerous tree, but pruned out some broken branches from another tree, and totally removed and cleaned up all of the debris and other storm related damage that was in my back yard. I am totally amazed at the job he did and would absolutely recommend and hire Mark and his company again.
Description of Work: Removal of a large oak tree that was partially blown down in recent tornado activity.

Once Mark explained himself with the issues I had attempting to schedule an estimate, I was willing to start from square one based on his explanations. No excuse for it, but I understood his situation. The work performed was great and to specifications. Everything we talked about during the estimate was performed well and completed all in one day. The estimate was adhered to, and there were no hidden charges. Took two them about 5 hours to complete the work, which was expected. Price-wise, he may be a bit in the mid-range of what you'll find, but worth the cost to get a professional who knows what he's doing as opposed to a guy with a saw who isn't completely sure about what he's doing or why. The company he hired to pick up the trimmings came within 48 hours, and did a decent job. A couple issues with them, but Mark was quick to work those out as needed.
