Mark was very professional, very helpful and had many good ideas as to how to address a very difficult tree removal project. Ultimately, I was not able to use his service, as crane rentals were very difficult to arrange on short notice at that time. Schedule forced me to use another outfit that could provide the required crane on very short notice.

It was an Angie's List Big Deal that I purchased. They did great. I had pre-marked everything that I wanted done and they were shocked that no one had ever done that but I sprayed the limbs that I wanted cut off. They were very professional. I think they did more than I contracted them for. But they were impressed with the fact that I had already taken the time to go out and mark branches to expedite their time that was here because they were under a time schedule. They cleaned up the yard, the street and hauled away the debris, and they asked me to come out and see to make sure that it was to my liking. It was just perfect.

Mark's advice as arborist was invaluable. It turns out the the multi-trunked tree was rotted at the base of the four trunks -- likely to have fallen on the house during next major strom. Mark continues to advise me regarding tree matters, including how to rep[air the yard. Mark is an experienced professional who is extremely honest as well as helpful.

Highly recommend, very honest.
Description of Work: Mark came out and gave us an estimate about removing some dangerous trees. Of the trees that I thought were "dangerous" he agreed about half were, but half were not and he would not recommend removing them. I did not get this honest from the first company I talked too. I am not sure if I will go with him or not (I have two more quotes, and money is tight so I'm not sure if I'm doing anything right now), but I would definitely recommend at least 770Arborist tell you their thoughts and give you a quote.

We called Mark for an evaluation of all trees on our property as we had wind damage to a couple of trees from recent storms. Also, most of our trees are very tall and have quite a bit of age on them. He was punctual, thorough and knowledgeable. After examination of the trees, he gave us his recommendation for priorities of work to be scheduled with the tree service provider of our choice. At no time did he try to sell work or services to us. His approach was extremely honest as to what he recommended we have removed, what could be pruned in order to save viable trees in our yard, raising of canopy on some trees and even took time to explain proper pruning of smaller trees, which we have been doing ourselves. All in all, his review will probably save us money in the long-run. We believe our time spent with Mark was well worth the cost of the inspection, very educational and found his honesty and personality to be quite refreshing. We highly recommend his services.
Description of Work: Mark performed a thorough inspection of all trees on our property, spending as much time as needed to answer all of our questions and at no time tried to rush through the inspection.

We called Mark Russell to come out and look at our out-of-control holly trees on our front porch. He looked at and evaluated all of our trees and had several recommendations. One of his crews came out a few days later and took out the holly trees and 3 other trees that were too close to the house. Since the crew came late in the day, they were to return on Friday to finish up. On Thursday evening (6/13) we had 2 tornadoes in the area and a 100 year old oak tree came crashing down in our yard barely missing the house. We called Mark that night and he showed up bright and early on Friday morning to evaluate the downed tree. He contacted the insurance company while on site and had our claim in the queue before many other unfortunate Cobb County homeowners. On Monday morning, a crew of 4 came out and systematically took apart the huge tree. Since the tree was being held up by a sweet gum tree - enduring all 8,000 lbs - we feared that our fence would be destroyed when it came down. But, because of the knowledge and experience of the crew (thanks, Guy!) - the tree was suspended by straps and sections were chainsawed until the final cut toppled the main trunk back into the woods - not even touching the fence at all. The job was done efficiently, thoroughly and quickly. This was a very positive experience. Mark not only provided great suggestions and options, but he is also working on a website where part of your expenses go to a charity of your choice. So, not only does he take care of your tree issues, but he wants to make a difference in the community as well. He kept on asking us, "How can I make you happy with my work?" - and honored his commitment to provide great service. Timing is everything, so we're glad we met Mark a week before we even knew how much we needed his advice and resources.
Description of Work: Cut down/removed 5 trees as a result of inital visit and evaluation. Huge storms and tornado-like winds on 6/13 toppled a 100 year old oak tree into our backyard. Mark showed up the next day to look at the damage and work with the insurance company to get the claim submitted and approved. Early Monday morning, a crew of 4 took apart the 8,000 lb. tree and removed it from the yard. The work was done quickly and professionally.

Mark was very professional and a great help for our situation. I explained to him that we had some tree damage to one of the trees in our yard and were concerned that it may need to be taken down. He had me make a video of the damage and quickly wrote me back with a video explaining how to care for the damaged parts of my tree. I was very impressed with his promptness and helpfulness. We will definitely be using him in the future!

Regarding response, recollection not accurate though understandable. No one came to house; all discussion by phone that morning as crew was finishing up somewhere unknown. I was still in bed as we both up much of the night.
Description of Work: Did not get charged for service, as calenders did not work out to get together, per contractor phone call. Angie's list deficient as well in tracking services for subscribers, as should know if contractor reversed the charge when no services were provided and advise such in any email. Yeah, That whole deal stunk for everyone…. I noticed you gave us an "A" for price. I appreciate that. I wish that we could have done some great tree work for him. For those reading… This deal was a coupon was a coupon we offered in 2011 for $109 for 3 man-hours of tree work ( at over a 50% discount). Angie's List took $46 dollars of that $109, leaving us with $63 to drive 3 men through traffic AND work for an hour once we got there. These coupons were a huge mistake for us to ever offer and actually got us 3-4 negative reviews as we did our best to honor our commitment to over 40 clients while not losing too much. In this case, we emailed all of our clients letting them know of the predicament and we tried to group routes as tight as possible to cut down on drive-time. Either way, he is correct, we did call him ahead that Saturday morning letting him know he was up next and he said said it would be ok to come over. (Otherwise we would have gone to a different job.) However, once got there, I guess the issue with his wife feeling sick made him reconsider, and he decided not come out to show us what he wanted done. Obviously, given the situation, it was disappointing (because I had just paid for the fuel and men's time to drive to his house, and he simply won't come outside and tell us what to do.) He did receive a 100% refund and got his $109 back in full. A lot of my clients got a super low price on great tree work. I wish that could have happened for him as well. Thanks for the feedback! This was a great experience. Prior to contacting Mark, another tree removal service recommended that I take down a large portion of a 100 year old oak tree in my back yard because it "was rotted on the inside". I asked for assurances and was told to find an arborist to confirm. When Mark looked at the tree, he said that it was perfectly healthy and just needed to be pruned. He also found another tree to be pruned and one that needed to come down because it was wrapping itself around another tree. We had some scheduling difficulties because I was traveling but once that was resolved, Mark and his crews did a beautiful job. The pruned trees look great the cleanup in the back yard was very neat. Our original agreements was for Mark's team to stack the tree they took down for firewood but I realized that it would be a great hiding place for snakes so I changed my mind at the last minute. Mark accommodated my new request to remove the entire tree on the same day and his adjustment to the quote was fair. My trees look wonderful and my backyard has never looked nicer.

WillamsI am the owner of Majestic Plumbing & Electric. I have a client whose sewer line will be replaced today. There is a sycamore tree on top of the location of the existing sewer line that needs to be removed. The client (an Angies List member) asked us to have the tree removed and add the cost to her bill. I used Angie's List to fin 770-ARBORIST. After speaking with Mark, I decided to give him a try. His company performed exactly as he stated they would. I found the price to be fair. I will continue from this point forward to refer them to all of our clients who may need the services of an Arborist.

They arrived on time and immediately proceeded to set-up their equipment to start work. They were efficient, knowledgeble and thorough in performance of the tree trimming and removal. The work crew was friendly and did not take a lunch break -- they worked through lunch-time. I would definitely use this company again to handle all of my tree removal requirements.
Description of Work: 770 Arborist was hired to trim two large decorative trees in the front of our house. We have lived here for over 25 years and the trees were taking over the front yard. They also removed a large dead oak tree in the back yard. We sit on a rather sizeable hill and the oak tree (approximately 36" in diameter) had died two years ago. They dropped some of the larger branches, topped the tree and dropped the main trunk (we will be cutting the rest of the tree up for firewood) without damage to the surrounding trees.

Mark was prompt in returning our call. His crew came out when they said they would. Mark discussed ahead of time the best location to stack the cut limbs, branches and debris. He was concerned about making sure the neighbors who share a common driveway with the townhouse would be notified that tree work would be done. We volunteered to do that. (The neighbors were thrilled to see the treework being done!) Everything went as planned. One great surprise was how quickly the cuttings were picked up and hauled off. This made Lowe's job of dropping roofing materials much easier and it meant that we did not have a big pile of limbs sitting out until Monday. All work was accomplished exactly as discussed and there were no unpleasant surprises. Mark's love of trees is apparent and his knowledge was extensive. Mark kept us from having healthy trees removed that did not need to be cut down and he identified tree issues we did not know we had. AT no point was he "selling" tree cutting services because his $149 site visit cost allowed him to be objective in his landscape and tree analysis - something we really appreciated! NOTE: One of the reasons we chose Mark is because of how he handled the 2 customers who gave him less than positive feedback. At no point did he say or do anything that was less than professional or critical. He offered full refunds to make the customers happy. His well over 40 positive reviews really told the true story. We got another winner by using Angie's List!
Description of Work: We met with the Arborist, Mark Russell, on Tuesday, February 12, 2013, at 2 locations, our house and a townhouse we also own. Mark was prompt and we discussed our tree and shrub concerns with him in great detail. Mark provided knowledgable, detailed responses that helped us make some critical decisions on which trees and shrubs needed to be removed and which ones were perfectly fine. We had one older tall Southern Pine at our house that we were particularly concerned about because it was near a back deck. Mark inspected the tree, the root system and the location of the tree. He did not recommend having it removed as its location was not a threat to our house and deck. The end unit townhouse needed extensive tree work. Two large Bradford pears which had issues because of their age were removed. A huge crepe myrtle and several other dead or dying shrubs were also removed. Two trees on the side of the property desperately needed to be shaped and thinned. One of the trees was overhanging the roof and causing issues. Mark's crew did all of the work on a Saturday which we really appreciated because we had roofers coming on Monday to replace the townhouse roof. They did an excellent job and the clean up service Mark uses also came on Saturday to haul away the limbs and branches. The job site was left immaculate. Our roofers were amazed and grateful because it made their job much easier.

Hmm…. I am not exactly sure how to respond based on the way your feedback was written? ???"I think they were also over expensive. The price is good."??? ???"They didn't do the part through what they promised to do."??? If refunding your $99 will make you satisfied, I will be more than happy to do so. Money is just not that important. :-) It was a huge mistake for us to run the "Big Deal" coupons. We did so to "test" the model right after Groupon came out hoping that it would turn into more business (Obviously $99 for multiple trees can not keep a tree service profitable.) Please call me at 770-Arborist and I will be more than happy to take care of you any way that I can. Thanks! Mark Russell

As it turned out, a crane (Phoenix Crane) was brought in to assist in removing the trees. All the work, including 4 tree removals and the pruning of 3 trees took around 4 hours. Both Mark, his staff (including Scott) and the crane operator were amazing throughout. When the work was completed, the guys cleaned up my yard and used a blower also and left my yard as they had found it. I live on a cul-de-sac and the wood/debris was placed on one side of the cul-de-sac for removal and not in the way. The company Mark uses for this was SWS (Sofani Waste Service). The guy was phenomenal as well. There was not one twig left after he was through. He also utilized a blower and left the cul-de-sac immaculate. I would certainly use Mark Russell and his crew again, and would recommend them to my friends and neighbors.
Description of Work: I had Mark Russell (770-Arborists) come out to evaluate several large trees behind my house, of which, one had already broken off mid way 2 weeks prior. The trees in question would have damaged my home if they were to fall and that had me concerned. Mark was prompt, professional, and spent a lot of time evaluating the trees on my property. The recommendation was to remove 4 trees (the one that had already broken off, and 3 more that were right together which were either dead or dying). We also discussed the pruning of 3 other trees in the yard. They would try and not use a crane if possible, but that would be decided once the crew arrived and evaluated the situation. We set up a time for the tree removal for the following week.

He made a video as well as written proposal with pictures to describe the work that needed to be done. I like his assessment fee of $149 which can be applied to the tree work if you use him. Thank you for the feedback and sharing your experience with myself and the A.L. community. I understand that tree work is expensive and we do our best to keep our prices as low as we can. We have lots of expenses in Insurance, fuel, labor, equipment, and training. Splitting your job into two trips would have significantly increased the fixed costs of fuel and labor to drive twice, setup twice, and then break down twice. At the price I had quoted, if we had made multiple trips, we would have lost money. So yes, because all companies have to stay profitable, technically that would not have been "worth" our time to make two trips. That is why I had suggested getting the full job done at once so that we could provide the quality solution at the price you were looking for. I am really glad you were able to get your money back from the coupon, because the last thing I want is money from anyone who does not feel we have offered a quality service. I called 770-Arborist in May because we had a (living) branch which fell from a huge tree and came through our sun room roof. We were concerned that other (some less healthy looking) branches were also above our house. Mark Russell, the arborist, came to our house and examined every tree which could have an impact on our house and made recommendations that would improve the safety of our existence amongst the many trees surrounding us. I was quite impressed with his knowledge. The cost for this service was $149. Quite a bargain for all the time he spent with me. Mark said the best time to actually do the tree trimming would be in October. He gave me several options in terms of crew and options for disposal of the cut branches (trees). I opted for a 4-man crew, with 2 climbers, who would spend a day removing any rogue branches, and remove the 1 tree that is dying and could cause a threat to the house. The trees needing branches trimmed were HUGE - 100+ feet high? - so there was a lot involved. I didn't feel that he was overselling the tree trimming at all (also something I respected). The actual tree service guys were from another company Mark works with (1-800-tree-expert, I believe). They came to do the actual tree trimming last week. The job went seamlessly (to me). We had removal of 1 tree, trimming of branches threatening the house, trimming of branches that were affecting power/cable lines, and some trimming of lower branches on some of the very tall trees, to enable the lower canopy to show off some. I was very pleased with the efficiency with which the work was completed, the honesty of the workmen. they finished a bit early and did some additional removal of some shrubs and volunteer trees which were growing up close to the house. I wrote a check for the $3600 - but then Mark called in the evening to remind me that my original $149 was applied toward that amount, so he was sending me a refund. I should receive it in the next day or two. I am quite pleased and would definitely recommend these guys again!
Description of Work: 1) Examination of all trees in the yard which threatened our house; 2) Removal of 1 tree; 3) Trimming of dead branches on huge trees; 4) Trimming of branches touching roof, and threatening power lines; 5) Trimming of low branches on trees near street to enhance curb appeal of lot; 6) Cut down shrubs growing tall to below window level 7) Thinning of volunteer trees.

******** I wanted to quickly note that 1-800-Tree-Expert used to be our "brand" that we opperated under. However we changed the brand to 770-Arborist simply because it was a bit more personal to the Atlanta area.******** Wow! Thanks for taking the Time To share how we did! Also, to future customers, reviews like these are why we charge the initial $149 for the consultation. My approach to "estimates" is to bring you value while I am out there. The pressure to "sell" a job, simply interferes with purely concentrating on what is best for your trees. So, to remedy this conflict, we cover the cost of the time with a minimal cost of $149 which counts as a $149 credit if you hire us for tree work. This allows me to be 100% unbiased in my assessment of your trees. The site visit includes looking at every tree on your property that is a threat to your house. We'll look at the trees: Root flair, health/stability, compaction Signs of rotting roots Mechanical injury to roots, trunks, and main beams Tree canopy vigor Proximity to other trees and available light Potential gradation changes that could affect water patterns Potential herbicide damage. These are just a few of the things off the top of my head that we look at. Ultimately, you come away with a LOT better understanding of your property's trees, their health, and a future plan of action. If I can be of service to you, feel free to call, I would love to help. Thanks!

I was concerned about the health of a very large pine tree in the back yard of a house I am purchasing. Mark met me there on the same day I called. He was very professional and knowledgable. Not only did he assure me that the tree was healthy, he looked at every tree in the back yard. The back yard was overgrown, and he gave me advice on the best way to clear it out and the best tools to use for the job.

Mark and team did an excellent job. They were very professional and punctual for both visits to the home. They really know trees and their work on the trees showed. The used no spikes on the trees and used specialized cuts to make sure the health of my trees remained. Overall I would recommend this vendor to other customers without a doubt.
Description of Work: Two visits from the vendor. First was an appraisal on my trees as well as consultation on roots. Consultation cost $75 but this amount was applied to the balance of tree services performed later.

Thanks for the report! I really enjoyed getting your trees up to snuff. I thought they looked great at the end of the job and now have a future of strong upward, healthy growth. Thanks again. ***** Side note... To potential future customers- Our evaluation fee is normally $149, I happened to be very close to this clients house that day is why he recieved it for $75. Regardless, our evaluation fee is always free if we perform work.

They did a great job, and I didn't have to be there for it. I described the work I wanted done over the phone, and they were able to work me in within the week. I don't have any complaints, and would recommend them.
Description of Work: They removed a few branches above my house that looked like they would soon fall in a thunderstorm.

It went very well ... nothing more to add.
Description of Work: I pulled 770 Arborist from Angie's List because it was listed as close by my home address, which turned out to not be quite accurate ... however, I called Mark anyway and because of what happened, I felt I should write up a review, even though he did not come to my home. During the phone call, we agreed that Mark was too far away from my home to provide a really appropriate price for the work (meaning he would have to charge more than he would customarily charge due to the driving distance). However, Mark was interested in hearing my problem regardless, and after I described the tree and its issues, he asked me to send him a video of the tree. I did so the next morning and very soon got a clearly written and thoughtful response which showed me that A) he had looked at the video and saw what I saw, B) he had valid feedback and C) he cared what I thought about his business, regardless of whether I used his services or not. As it turns out, I will be using someone more local, but I was so impressed by Mark and his obvious desire to be of service, even if it meant he didn't get a dime out of it, that I felt compelled to write this experience out. I can't in all honesty recommend him based on an actual job experience because he hasn't done physical work at my address, but I can certainly recommend him as a responsive businessman who is concerned about his customers and his reputation.
